Perfect little amp to run my subs

I was a little torn between this and the XD600/1v2. I liked the compact size of the JX, but the added features and a little more power on the XD was tempting. I am glad I went with the JX, since it is powering my JL 10w3v3-2 nicely. I have it at half power right now and it sounds great. I still need to dial in the voltage, but I can't complain.
Pros: Fits under the WRX passenger seat with ample room. Generates plenty of power. Seems to stay cool so far. The JL remote bass plugs right in. Good price for power/quality.
Cons: Not a fan of the design, but it is under the seat anyways. I like the look of the HD series personally...

I am thoroughly impressed with the power of this small amplifier. I have it pushing two 10" JL subs in my GMC Sierra crew cab. I can crank it up and haven't had any issues with it getting too hot or clipping out!

I installed this in my 370z pushing 2 JL 6W3V3-4 the sound is amazing, the power is all there and more if needed. Completely satisfied with the product for what was planned for my car. The size is perfect cause of the tight spaces in the car, it is ideal for small spaces and tight cars.

I have this amplifier hooked up to the alpine type s 10-d4 subwoofer and this amplifier gives the subwoofer all the power it needs. The woofer itself is in a ported box and for the exceptional sound matching the mono amplifier and the alpine sub really thumps right thru. Again this is my first time with the jl audio amplifier along with the 4channel jl amplifier this too I would highly recommend as well

When I decided to buy another amp and a set of subs for my "old" car, I was originally going to buy MTX. Why? Because Im currently the owner of a JL Audio HD750 (in the "new" car) and I didnt wanna spend JL Audio money on the "old" car. Then I saw this little JX500/1D. "Under 300? Under JL Audio's '1 dollar per watt' theory?" is that I said to myself. I was skeptical... Let me say this. Im not skeptical anymore. I tried to see if I could put this little pit bull into "protection" but my ears couldnt take it anymore... I've always said "Dont go by what you hear, go by what you HEAR". I've NEVER heard anything bad from JL Audio. I have been a JL Audio purist for a very long time. Dont be afraid of JL Audio's "budget" series. Its WELL WORTH IT! Trust me!

Installed this amp in a 2012 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab with a JL Audio Stealth box @ 2ohms, and can only turn the amp up 3/4 of the way at 80hz
Great amp with a small footprint. I have it powering the JL stealth box in a 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 and it sounds awesome. Amp fits perfectly under the rear driver seat next to the spare tire tools.

I've had this amp for a few years now and basically only have one complaint (I'll get to it in a second). What was so appealing about the JX500 was its size. I drive a small sedan and there isn't a ton of space to spare (didn't stop me from installing a 12" sub), but having a small but perfectly capable amp was one less thing to be concerned about. Overall, the build quality is really good, with one caveat: over time, the low-level RCA input jacks weaken and, in my case, break. I attribute this to poor cable positioning that caused undue stress on the jack, leading to the breakage. Luckily, it still works.

This is an awesome amp to run a subwoofer. I have it paired with the JL Audio CS112RB-W3v3 PowerWedge (running at 2 ohms). I also have the bass knob installed. This thing THUMPS HARD! It includes a built in crossover and bass boost. Looks great was very easy to install. Got a 4-gauge amp install kit from Crutchfield with the order. The bass hits low like with Brandy's I Wanna Down or EPMD's So Whatcha Sayin. VERY low and doesn't bottom out. Yet all other kinds of music like rock and country sound great. I couldn't be happier.

A perfect amp for running a subwoofer, JL Audio is as good as everybody says. You can rock all day and it comes back for more every time.

I have to be honest, I am a solid novice when it comes down to high quality audio - but I am learning very quick. Recently starting playing HD music files and deleted all my MP3's. I have two Orion HCCA 10" Dual 2 Ohm subwoofers that are now powered by this little amp. This is amp is about a third of the size of the original amp I had installed and this JL amp is just as, if not a little more, powerful than the previous amp (not a JL). Such a breeze to tune and really seems to have cleaned up certain songs that have a very distinct bass line. I have my entire system set up mostly for best sound and not extreme bass, and this amp will run very cool for very extended times. Really recommend JL Audio for everyone looking for serious quality, and a seriously under rated amp. Don't be fooled by some other companies "peak" outputs.

Great purchase but had a problem with the amp (red light). It happens and Crutchfield was great. I called with the issue was not on placed hold and the technical adviser was professional and thorough. Got a replacement in four days. It is pushing my JL Audio Stealthbox (10 inch). Plenty of power with no clipping (provided you have properly tuned the intensity as per JL Audio instructions).

Bought this amp to pair with a JL cp108lg-w3v3. I was considering the Alpine 500/1 but decided that the additional features and JL quality were enough to justify the extra cost. Mounting is a breeze and the power output is more than enough to power my sub. I am running through the stock stereo in my '13 Toyota tundra so the sound quality isn't exactly what you would get with preamps and a real EQ but the amp pushes the sub great. I would recommend this amp to anyone who has the money to spend on it. JL does it again.

I have this amp pushing 2 Alpine SWE 10S4 subs in the trunk of a new Camaro with the stock radio head receiver, and this small amp has big power and a great deep clean sound. I had other comparable amps in the car as far as power output and this amp blows them away. I am using a Audio control line converter because I am using the stock receiver and this amp sounds great with power to spare, and if you like it loud this amp will provide it while keeping the bass clean.

To save space in my '12 Mini Cooper Countryman, I had this amp installed with a remote knob (JL Audio RBC-1) and it sounds great! For now I have it connected to a Kenwood KFC-W3013PS 12" Sub, I plan on replacing the 12" with the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 which should will fit nicely under the fold flat floor. The current setup is LOUD!! After my poor ears had had enough, turned down the gain to about 1/4 and it is still impressive.

I got this amp to match my 500rms stealthbox. Although at this time it is installed without a true tune. It has most definitely met and exceeded my expectations. What can I say, it is JL we are talking about.

Build quality is excellent. Sound is excellent. The amp is under my seat, and powering one 10 inch JL dual coil under 2 ohms and is loud and crisp.

Just had this amp installed and it sounds great! Have it pushing a JL Audio Stealth box loaded with a 10" W1v2 subwoofer. If you own a 2005 or newer Nissan Frontier crew cab then you know there isn't much room for amps. This amp fit under the front passenger seat like it was custom made to go there. Very nice solid construction and the sound quality so far is outstanding. The sub already sounds amazing and it is not even broken in yet. This sub is rated at 300 Watts RMS @ 4 ohms, but my car audio guy, who also is a JL reseller said they often under rate the RMS power on their amps. So this amp is more than enough to get the most out of the JL sub. I am running this off a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH head unit, a pair of Phoenix Gold TI65CS 6.5 Inch Component Speakers up front and Phoenix Gold TI65Cx 6.5 Inch Speakers in the rear doors powered by a Phoenix Gold SD500.4 500 Watt 4 Channel Amplifier (also purchased for its small size and superior performance) I wanted to match amp brand to speaker brand for the door and sub because I had heard this gives you better overall sound and I can tell you when I heard this system for the first time it was like I was sitting in a professional music studio, the sound quality was that amazing. This amp delivers outstanding lows and the articulation is incredible. I listen to rock, blues and now I am even listening to hip hop as it sounds so good on this system. The Crutchfield guys and gals were wonderful as always.

Cons: High price, no gain control, the Signal to Noise Ratio @ 62 dB, which is low to the usual 80 to 90+ you see on other mono amps had me a little worried but so far not an issue.
This thing is a little beast! I have it running 2 JL 10 inch subs and I can't believe the low end this amp puts out. My friends all swear I have 12's. I had an Alpine running the subs before this, same wattage, sounded horrible compared. Bass sounded so thin compared to the JL. I am sold on this amp, I can't wait to drive everywhere now so I can listen to my music. Very impressed.

I have this matched with one JL Audio 10W3V3 installed in a Q Logic Carbon Fiber Rear Door Enclosure in my Jeep Wrangler and the articulation is incredible. I've compared it to a Sony XM1S which was plenty loud but not as punchy. I also tried an Alpine MRX-M50 which was decent too but kept cutting out. Although these three amps are in the same class, the JL JX 500/1D stands out and lives up to it's reputation. I have it dialed in at 200 LPF and I'm hearing bass drums and low strings I wasn't hearing before. In my car, the dials are set flat at 0 DB and it is really clean. I should also mention that I have a Kenwood MP342U as the controller with the LPF bypassed. on the head unit. Everything purchased here at Crutchfield - Couldn't be happier...Except if it was actually manufactured in JL's Florida facility like their other products.
Pros: Very precise LPF EQ. Clean Loud Power, Runs Cool. Solid. Small and easy to install.

High-Mass Heat Sink: A heavy extruded aluminum heat sink is designed to keep the JL Audio JX series amplifier in a comfortable thermal range during demanding operation. This high-mass, extruded heat sink removes heat from the amplifier circuitry, extending high-power operation. This improves reliability and reduces the frequency of thermally related shut-down event.
Protection Circuitry: The JX500/1D's protection circuitry automatically shuts the amplifier down if thermal limits are exceeded, a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring, or if low supply voltage limits are reached.
Status Indicator Lights: There are two status indicator lights on the right side of the amplifier.
Input Sensitivity: The Input Sensitivity Control is used to match your source unit's output voltage to the input stage of the amplifier for maximum clean output:
Low Pass Crossover: The JL Audio JX500/1D monoblock amplifier is equipped with a 12dB/octave Butterworth low-pass filter with variable frequency selection from 50 to 200Hz.
Bass Boost: The amplifier is equipped with a variable 0 to +12dB, 45Hz Bass Boost.
Remote Level Control: The JX500/1D is equipped with an RJ-25 connection for an optional wired RBC-1 Remote Level Control (sold separately) that allows volume level adjustment of the amplifier from the front of your vehicle.
Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The monoblock amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for tightening/loosening the set-screws.
Note: The amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 50-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 50-amps, the original should be replaced with a 50-amp fuse.
Speaker Output Terminals: The JL Audio JX500/1D features four set-screw speaker terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The monoblock amplifier's four set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for tightening/loosening the set-screws.
Preamp Inputs: The monoblock amplifier features one set of stereo RCA input jacks. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for these inputs. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the JX500/1D to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's low-level input can be set between 200mV-4V RMS.
Speaker Level Inputs: The JL Audio JX500/1D also accepts speaker level signals, including those from factory systems (without the need for a line-output converter), via the supplied 10" speaker-level harness. The amplifier's high-level input can be set between 2V-10V RMS.
Preamp Outputs: The JX500/1D incorporates a pass-through preamp output sections, so that additional amplifiers can easily be connected to the same signal feeding the monoblock amplifier. The preamp output signal is buffered to prevent noise.

Hi. It's all according to your ear. To get good solid bass I usually run it 3/4 of the way around. Between half and 3/4 should get you where you want it. Especially with cd's and higher quality audio. If the bass is too much with the radio you can back it down to half way. Experiment with it and see what fits your particular ears the best. Keep your bass setting on your head unit around 2 positive, any other bass settings you might have keep them neutral, in the middle. When listening to high quality audio once your woofers are broken in you can crank it on up past 3/4 if you want. They are 12's correct? [ Olinda Jun 09, 2016 ]
The input sensitivity depends on the preamp voltage output of your head unit. I think most units today are around 4V which is good. Turn the sensitivity all the way down on the amp and then turn the volume of your head unit up to around 75% of the full capacity. You can adjust the sensitivity from there until you've got a good volume. Typically, the lower you make the sensitivity, the more headroom the amplifier has so it won't clip at high volumes. The JL Audio JX500/1D is a mono (single channel) amp so there will be no bridging. You can wire the two 4 Ohm coils of the woofer in parallel to the amplifier to present a final 2 Ohm load though. You'll just have to set the amplifier gains carefully as it does offer more wattage (500 RMS) than your woofer is rated to handle (350 RMS). I hope that helps! The only way I know add a subsonic filter is by getting a crossover with one in it. You can connect the crossover on the wiring between the radio and the amp. if I understand correctly those have a 300rms. x 2 would be 600 rms this amp is 500w. plus its a mono. my thoughts are it wont be enough. I run this amp with the jl audio stealthbox for the colorado crew cab which has the 10w3v3 with 500rms. sounds awesome, but my ears want a ported box... but thats just me. [ JASON Sep 16, 2014 ]

A converter is not required. This amplifier comes with an additional wire harness that you can hook up your high level output (factory speaker wires) into without a problem. And it also has an RCA output if you were to add an additional amplifier later. [ ALAN A Jun 26, 2014 ]
