Get more out of your maritime music experience with high-performance JL Audio marine speakers. The MX650-CCX-CG-WH 6-1/2" marine speakers combine durable, marine-ready design with outstanding sound reproduction. You can mount them in your boat's cockpit or bulkhead walls, either as stand-alones or in conjunction with a subwoofer.
These rugged speakers deliver powerful output that'll cut through the combination of wind, water, and engine noise. The weatherproof cone is suspended in a durable synthetic rubber surround for great sound and long life, and the UV-resistant polymer basket surrounds and protects the entire structure.
The 3/4" treated silk dome tweeters render brilliant highs, and they're mounted directly to the grilles for optimal sound radiation. You'll hear all the details of your music, even when the throttle is forward and you're skimming over the waves.
I replaced the stock speakers on my Four Winns H180 with these JL Audio and the sound is terrific. I was concerned that the Sony head alone wouldn't provide enough power alone to drive these speakers without an amp. No problems at all. Plenty of power and the sound is clear from low to high volume.
Great speakers. Paired with m505 on pontoon. Sounds great at high volume and bass is impressive. I will be adding an amp next year because if they sound this good with just 22 watts I can't wait to see what they sound like with some real power.
Pros: Powerful sound and clear
An outstanding product. Use the template for drilling the proper sites to assure a good fit. Great quality sounds. Nice bass to them. "it's all about the bass, no treble" ??. Solid product. I highly recommend.
Pros: All inclusive. Fast service. Received in 48 hrs from purchase!
Great speakers for the money. Easy to install and they produce a very acceptable range of sound. I just replaced 6 old Sony speakers with these and I am thoroughly enjoying them on my boat.
Pros: Buy them you won't be sorry.
After reading a bunch of other reviews, I decided to give these a try. By using the rewards program, I got them shipped for under $100 and installed them this afternoon. We just bought a Sun Tracker 20' pontoon boat outfitted for saltwater fishing in the backwaters of the Gulf of Mexico, and while the OEM speakers were adequate, the JL Audio MX-650 was a huge improvement. For me, there were no holes to drill as everything lined up nicely with the existing holes - old speaker came out, new speaker went in. I used a bit driver, but went slowly and carefully to insure a tight fit, using the provided screws and washers.
The install was easy enough - if you're reasonably handy with a screwdriver or bit driver, you Can do this yourself. Read the directions, then hook 'em up. I took the old speakers out, noting that one speaker wire terminal was smaller than the other. This worked out great for me as the JL Audio speakers use different sized "spade" connections, so there was no guess-work involved when it came time to reconnect the OEM speaker wiring......small spade goes to the tweeter, big spade goes to the woofer......Bam! I connected the iPod and put some Jimmy Buffet tunes through these, and the difference in sound quality was immediate and gratifying. These speakers like to have a bit of power behind them to really bring out the rich flavor of the music that I'd been missing with the cheap, paper-coned speakers of yesterday, so crank 'em up !
Pros: Excellent price, super fast shipping, two year warranty, and easy install.
Cons: Haven't discovered any yet.
Great Sound easy mount.
Pros: These are great sounding speakers for their size. Plenty of bass I wasn't expecting.
I installed 4 of these on a 20' boat open fisherman and it's sounds awesome. I had 4 fusions with stock radio sounded ok. I installed 4 JL's with a sony 600 watt amp and I can't ask for better quality. I play it all day with never worrying about amp heating up or speakers going bad.
Pros: Sound loud Sound very clear Very durable Looks good Easy to install
Cons: Maybe the price
These speakers replaced the junk OEM, no name, outside speakers in my 3-year-old Lagoon catamaran. The MX650's were installed in the OEM locations which provide more than enough air space behind them and they are driven by a new, high-end Fusion marine stereo. They sound pretty good but they didn't blow me away as I had expected from the rave reviews - in fact they sound kind of flat. By comparison, the 5-inch OEM no name speakers inside the salon have a fuller sound with better highs at all volume levels. The Fusion audio is set to max for bass and treble, half for mid-range, and I can independently control the volume to each of the two speaker zones. For further comparison, the 5-inch Polk speakers I recently installed in my GMC Sierra C3 sound MUCH better with deeper bass, better highs, and overall fuller and more accurate sound with only the factory radio.
Pros: Should be weather resistant and hopefully last longer than the OEM speakers.
Cons: I'm a little disappointed in the sound quality.
I've owned at least 10 of these on my past boats. Never Had one fail. Many others rust around the tweeter but not these. Great sound.
Pros: Longevity, quality
I replaced 4 Infinity 612M speakers with the JL Audio MX650. I had had the Infinity's for 6 years and the where showing they age. I choose the JL because of their reviews and reputation. I'm glad I did. They sound great.!
Pros: Look great and sound even better. Included hardware.
I purchased these speakers for my boat after hearing a pair on a buddy's boat. Mine are mounted in the radar arch and it isn't deep enough for the speakers. I called one of the Crutchfield advisors and explained the problem to him and asked if I could make a spacer to hold the speaker out a half inch and he said it would work just fine. He was super helpful and I will recommend the team to anyone. The only thing I did differently was to use a cutting board to make the spacer . It worked great.
Pros: Great sound next to my house and I hope to try them out going across the water soon.
Cons: Only time will tell.
These are great! They live up to the JL name. I replaced the stock speakers on my Starcraft RT tent trailer and they sound amazing in comparison. I will be replacing the two 5 1/2" on the inside soon and I will be using JL's as well.
Pros: Great clear sound
Very good sound , They look very strong and good looking. I hope they last more than the sonys i had that only lasted a year before coming apart..
Pros: They fit the same hole I had for the Sonys.
Cons: I think they are a little overpriced.
Very good so far, but only had them in for 10 days.
Pros: Sound and ease of installing.
Cons: None so far
Speakers deliver a punch on a 20 watt stereo in our boat. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.
Easy to install and GREAT sound. Really like these speakers.
Pros: Great sound
Great crisp sound. Easily handles whatever power you throw at them. They sound amazing at high volume.
Pros: Great price. Great sound. Simple installation. Matched perfectly on Sea Ray screw pattern.
Cons: I installed 4 speakers, 3 went in perfectly. 1 speaker had 1 screw head strip and 2 heads snap off.
Great set of speakers. We had to replacing aging clarions on our boat, and decided on the JL's as they were reviewed as the best. We have been extremely pleased. I just wish I would have done it sooner as the sound quality is incredible!
We are weekend boaters and decided to upgrade the original Sony sound system we've had for several years. I read reviews on the JLMX650 speakers which convinced me to purchase them. Overall, excellent buy as I could not be more pleased with the sound and quality you get in JL. The speakers fit into the existing speaker holes but I had to drill new holes to secure as well as replace a couple of clips but all very easy to do. Turned on the music and the sound was everything I expected and then some. Clear distinct and powerful is the best way I can describe my initial reaction. I was considering adding an amp and subwoofer but not necessary as the clarity & depth is that good. Also, another feature worth mentioning is the construction is solid. The fact they're made in the USA was another selling feature. Also, JL comes with a two year warranty versus the normal one year. You might find less expensive speakers but you won't find better quality for the money.
Pros: Excellent Sound, Solid Construction,
Cons: Wish holes to secure speakers were universal but can't put this on JL..
Speakers were installed in the front cockpit area of a Grady White, some concern that these would be enough and we might need a amp and two more speakers. Glad we went with just two at first since these give us great sound a strong base and more sound than we will ever need.
I replaced my stock Clarion speakers with the JL Audio MX650 after I tested a pair on display at a local marine store. they fit right in to the existing holes in my boat. As soon as I turned the stereo on, I could hear an immediate difference. They sound so much better than the stock Clarions; I need another pair now!
Pros: Perfect stock replacement/upgrade. Much cleaner, louder sound. Sound even better with an amplifier pushing them.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Ordered at 4:30 on Monday, arrived on Tuesday's UPS truck. Great Service. Very easy 6 1/2 inch replacement of 10 year old worn out Sony speakers in boat's arch. 5 inch existing mounting hole was perfect to fit new speakers; only had to drill 4 new screw holes -- easy and straight forward.
Pros: Excellent sound -- surprisingly crisp sound with very good bass response. Radio "loudness" on and slight bass bias on tone control seemed good for my taste. (Using a Pioneer DEH-P5200HD 50watt/channel receiver)
Cons: Slightly larger lug on speaker for existing wire connectors. No problem removing old connectors and crimping new ones of correct size with marine hardware from my tool kit.
Easy fit, great sound.
Pros: Sweet sound at a reasonable price.
Cons: Depth is a bit much for tight marine spaces. Had to use spacers, which isn't ideal aesthetically.
Very good speakers! Not as good as I think the M650-CCX would be... but couldn't part with double the money. I hooked a powerful MTX amp to it and am running four of the MX-650's on a 19 foot center console. Had to adjust the amp down so I don't blow the JL's but it's a loud as it reasonably needs to be. Hope to add a Bazooka sub soon.
Pros: Loud, clear, good bass. American made. Two year warranty.
Cons: Will top out pretty quickly.
Crutchfield rep told me these would be a significant upgrade over the Sony marine speakers that were installed on my boat. They fit the same cutout, but the holes were slightly different - no problem - simple drilling. The clips where the speaker wire attached were larger than those on my boat, so I did have to install new ends on the speaker wire before they would connect to these speakers. After I installed the first pair, I turned on the stereo. Already, I could listen to the JL Audio pair versus the Sony's and hear the difference. Finished up the 2nd and 3rd pair installation and then fired it up. The sound is crisp, the base deep, and I would describe it as a Full Sound. I was not out running full speed, but there is clearly an upgrade from my previous speakers. I would say they are well worth the money. And they look great!
Pros: Sound is full, base deep, tone super. Fit in the same cutouts as my other 6 1/2 speakers. Not deep, so no worries about hitting the gunwale. Look sharp.
Cons: Have larger connection posts, so I had to clip and reattach new clips on the speaker wires before I could connect them.
They sound great
Nice speakers. These replaced factory installed Clarion speakers.
Pros: Great sound
I bought 2 pairs of these for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. 2 in the dash and two in the overhead bar and paired with JL Audio M400/4 and the stock head unit. The speakers sound great. The marine speakers are designed for open air sound, so they're great for the jeep with the top down. Time will tell how they stand up to the elements, but I'd highly recommend.
Pros: Great sound, loud and clear, sounds great with the top down
Cons: Lack on the lower end when installed without a lot of room/air behind the speaker (as in the Jeep). Still sound great, but not a lot of low or mid-low power.
I replaced 4 old generic speakers in my 24' bay boat with these. It's mind blowing how much better they sound and without the use of an amp. I would highly recommend these to anyone.
Pros: Sound quality, looks, workmanship.
This was really a nice upgrade from my 10 year old OEM speakers. First, in my opinion, JL Audio makes the finest marine speakers and you can be proud to know they are built right here in the USA. This was a quick and easy installation. Depth not an issue. Really nice clean sound and the bass on these are impressive. You won't find a better speaker for the money!
Pros: Clean, crisp sound, looks great, built in USA, awesome value.
Very easy product to install. All components are well built for years of service. The sound quality is excellent and very spacious. We have turned the outside of our RV into a great entertainment area.
Pros: Great sound, solid construction, easy to install, and looks fantastic.
Speakers were very easy to install & sound great.
Pros: Ease of installation, excellent sound
Awesome sound! Bought one pair and then had to buy another because they sounded so great.
Pros: Full range sound. Nice looking grill.
Great sounding speakers. Haven't had much time to use them since mounting 2 weeks ago but great so far. I have only 2 complaints. I replaced a pair of PolyPlanar 6.5" speakers, that didn't last, with these 6.5" speakers. The 4 mounting screw holes were advertised to fit the same holes on standard 6.5" marine speakers. They didn't. I drilled new ones. The wire tabs were larger than the connectors on the existing speaker wire so I had to replace those on the wire with the new size. No big deal since I already had several sizes at home. The warranty is 2 years, which is one reason I spent a little more money for these hoping they'll last longer.
Pros: Great Sound! Look good. Appear more durable.
Cons: Mounting holes not as advertised. Wire connector tabs larger than standard.
Used the JL MX650 to replace the stock speakers in the arch of my cruiser. This is a quality product right out of the box. Fit and finish is excellent. The power handling and superior sound quality is without question. A nice start to a total rebuild of a stock marine system.
Pros: Grille design is classy, blends well with cruiser scheme. Excellent sound quality.
Cons: mounting depth was an issue with my installation, but I knew that going in. I fabricated a set of spacers and all is well.
Recently replaced the two rear Alpine marine speakers with the JL Audio speakers and I had no idea how much I was missing. I'm not one of your techno audiophiles, I just know what sounds good to me and what I like, and I love these speakers. A week later, I ordered a second pair for the front of the boat. So, if you see some old guy rock'n in a pontoon with the music cranked up, that's me and my new JL Audio speakers. Just an FYI, the new Polk amp and sub helped a lot too!
Pros: Great value, takes unbelievable power, sound range/tone just blows you away
Cons: None. Wish I had installed this years ago. Just don't let your wife see the credit card bill....
The stereo system I had was 11 years old and needed an upgrade. After upgrading my head unit last year it was time to upgrade the speakers. I consulted the Crutchfield team for advice and they hooked me up with these JL speakers. They are a little expensive but well worth the price. To better enhance the sound quality I added the new Clarion Amp. boy what a difference. sound is crystal clear at the higher volume levels.
Installed these in my boat last weekend. These speakers are by far the best, cleanest, sounding speakers I have ever installed. Sound is crystal clear. I will never use any other speaker besides these in my future boats. Get these and I promise you'll be surprised at the sound quality.
Pros: Sound clarity is awesome for the size.
Cons: Not sure but wish they were available in black.
They have a much better sound than the Clarions they replaced and can handle a lot more volume. Like any speaker they are only as good as what you have driving them.
Pros: I have tried a few of the other lower cost speakers these are a much better value
The sound quality of these is OUTSTANDING! Even underway, with the engine screaming at 6000RPM these speakers have what it takes to crank out the music like a champ. Very happy so far. Purchased these to replace a pair of Sony's that disintegrated in the weather after three years.
Pros: Well made, great sound quality!
Excellent clear sound. Can get volume loud with no distortion.
Have a pair hooked up in a 28ft cruiser in the radar arch. They are connected to a DB Drive amp getting close to 120 watts each and they sound great. They look like they will stand up to the elements because of their design. The JL speakers are replacing Memphis which sounded good but fell apart after two years because of the exposure to uv, etc. The JL fit great in the OEM holes.
These speakers sound loud and clear. I soldered the wire connections because we all know how things corrode on a boat.
Pros: Easy install, fit right into the old speaker holes.
These speakers were purchased for their reputation for clean sound reproduction through my Kenwood receiver. They did not let my good ear for music down. Crisp deep bass, solid mid ranges, and pronounced highs with treble. I reccommend them to enhance your hearing pleasure.
Pros: Great ranges of sound and EZ installation
Cons: I need to add a power amplifier to my system to really get the sound range that these speakers can produce
It took me a long time to decide on which speakers to put in my boat, which didn't have a stereo or speakers before this, but thanks to a few guys there at Crutchfield and a lot of reviews and input from assorted audiophiles I went with these. As everyone has said, they are awesome. I don't think I have ever had auto speakers that sounded this good. These speakers are designed for centerconsole space and sound great. It was recommended that I get another set and an amp because the speakers wouldn't sound good without them but I can tell you they sound great without it. Not that I am not going to get an amp and another set of speakers, maybe the next size up in this series, but until then I am happy as hell with them. The first day we took the boat out with the new stereo/speakers we listened for six hours with no problem, even going 40 mph in the wind with my wife sitting in the front of the console she could hear them loud and clear. I positioned them so that they hit the sides, gunwales I think they are called and bounce the sound to the front and back of the boat. I paired them with an Alpine CDE-134HD which I put in a Polyplanar box on the dash and it works great and sounds even better. My next add-ons will be the JL Audio MX770-CCX-CG-WH and a Kicker ZXM350.4 with the speakers positioned to the back of the boat.
Pros: The great help from the guys at Crutchfield. Ease of installation. Sound Sound Sound.
Cons: nothing that I can think of
Installed these JL MX650 speakers in a 17" center console boat. The quality is above anything I have ever used. Stainless hardware, rubber seals around the grills, nothing but the best. I am using a Fusion MS-IP600 with no external amplifier.
Pros: Great looks, solid construction, great warranty, easy to install.
Cons: None at this time.
Wired these up on a Fosgate 4 Channel amp, the sound is AMAZING, no distortion or static, just crystal clear loud ass music, couldn't be happier with the way my boat sounds,
Pros: Clean and loud sound, just a great mid that keeps up with any type of music
crutchfield rocks! i got these speakers in a day, installed the next and they perform like everyone said they would. i was really impressed on how clear they were when underway.sooo much better than my old ones
Pros: their JL's that sound great
Cons: like everyone else the price
Great sound and build quality. They make the stock speakers look like a children's toy. While they wont blow you away with base, these speakers coupled with a 10" sub sound excellent!
Pros: Marine Grade Build
Fantastic sound, great range. Sharp clean bass and highs.
Pros: Great sound, carries well
Cons: a little bit pricey
Just had the JL's installed and could not believe how loud they are, the sound is night and day from the speakers I installed last season. Worth the extra money well worth it.
We installed a pair of these in our boat. We were a little skeptical about these, since we didnt know much about JL speakers. We are very satisfied. The sound is awesome and they seem to be very heavy duty.
Pros: Great sound and seems to be well built. Very clear sound, with good bass, at high volume levels.
Great speakers a bit high on the dollars but the sound is worth it. the highs hit perfect and the mids crank. the people that have heard my system asked what did i change and i just show them the speakers. . They speak for themselfs ive just had them installed 2 weeks ago so i dont know how well they will hold up to the weather etc. time will tell
Pros: all pros. They sound great. They look great They are built tough
Cons: price a bit high but very high quality . I guess its one of those you pay for what you get
This was my 2nd choice of speakers (1st ones were returned to Crutchfield) and they were a little more money than I wanted to spend, but it was worth it. I put these speakers on the outside of my 5th wheel for outdoor speakers. The install was easy and the sound quality is fantastic. Very happy and hopefully they have good durability and will last a long time.
Pros: Easy install, great sound for a 6 1/2" speakers
Cons: Little pricey but not bad
These speakers are great. I would absolutely recommend them for your boat.
Pros: Great range and sound quality. Plug and play installation.
Just recently installed these speakers in our boat. Easy to install, great sound, looks great!

Marine Tested: JL Audio's marine speakers are built to exceed industry standards for Salt-Fog and UV exposure. They are exposed to ultraviolet testing chambers to simulate years of sun exposure, and salt fog chambers to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments. Corrosion and UV-resistant materials are used throughout.
Woofers: The MX650-CCX-CG-WH speakers feature injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofers with UV inhibitors, synthetic rubber surrounds, and precisely engineered dust cap profiles for smooth upper-end response. The woofers also use marine-grade synthetic fiber spiders with a progressive roll design to withstand high humidity.
DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. The DMA optimized, long-excursion design enhances output, bass extension, and power handling of the speaker.
Tweeters: The speakers feature 3/4" silk dome tweeters with a specially formulated treatment to withstand UV and salt-spray exposure. The dome tweeter uses a neodymium magnet for higher efficiency levels and is Ferrofluid-cooled and damped for improved response and power handling capabilities.
Crossover: The tweeters use 2nd order (12 dB/oct) crossovers with solid-state tweeter protection to prevent tweeter failure.
Polymer Basket And Grille: The specifically engineered polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the woofer's motor system to prevent corrosion.
Infinite-Baffle Operation: The speakers are designed for infinite-baffle operation and can be installed in a variety of locations, without the need for a dedicated enclosure. The woofer is optimized to operate with a large volume of air behind it (at least 2 cubic feet); operating in less space will compromise low frequency performance.

good quaility [ CHAD Dec 22, 2015 ]
This item is too deep for most Radar Arches, you need to use an extension mounting rings between the arch and the speaker mounting surface. I fabricated a pair from MDF then coated them with resin then painted white, they look and work great. Plastic rings are also available from Crutchfield.. BTW.. these speakers sound great.. [ DOUGLAS A Jun 18, 2015 ]
Yes! But not here that I know of. The Mfg # MX650-CCX-CG-TB (I have seen them at another place) [ Paul Oct 13, 2015 ]
No. Not that I'm aware of. [ ROBERT H Jun 12, 2015 ]
They are available in white and dark grey. You would have to purchase the grey from JL audio directly. I wanted to buy the grey from Crutchfield but they do not sell that color any longer. Excellent speakers btw. [ KIRBY Jun 12, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Unfortunately, we don't have any research on a 2011 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited fairing, we just have research on the fairing of the 2011 Road Glide and Street Glide. Only speakers that can be bottom mounted fit into the 2011 Steet Glide and Road Glide fairing, so if the Ultra Limited's faring is similar then the JL Audio MX650-CCX wouldn't work, because the MX650-CCX can only be top mounted. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Aug 20, 2014 ] Staff
