Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Talk about 'bang' for your buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this to complement an install in a new Forester. Maintained the stock stereo (a stealth look), installed an Audio Control LC6 line converter and sub volume control (thanks Crutchfield support), an Alpine PDX-5 amp and two sets of Apline speakers (one set of components and one set of coaxial).

This sub is an excellent value. The enclosure, with the slanted back, fits perfectly behind the rear seat. It is as if the angle of the rear seat and the angle of the back of the sub enclosure are the same. (Lucky coincidence.)

The enclosure is well made, and the speaker is protected by a nice grill. This little package thumps and the volume control on the LC6 allows for the sub volume to be dialed in just right.

For the price, it would be hard to beat this little wonder.

Unbelievable bass from such a small package. I would purchase again. Incredible.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have this JL Audio CS110RG-W1v2 in a Toyota Tacoma Access Cab and it is being powered by a JL Audio 250/1v2 amp. This combination produces the kind of quality low end I was looking for. It works out quite well with classic rock. I don't think it is for the person that wants everyone on the block to here them thumping down the road, but for the person that wants to fill out the low end and let their main speakers do the rest.

Bought this to put in back of the wifes jeep. Worked out great. The box really is small but puts out surprising sound. Great quality product. However wish I had gone with the ported box for the fuller range bass.

JL stands for Performance

I bought this puppy and definitely was not disappointed. I have had many subs, two 10w3v1s and two 10w6v1s.

This puppy sounds almost as good as the two 10w3's. I could barely tell the difference. But yea either way these are all you need. It sounds amazing and does not over do it. Has enough bang, if you want quality and don't want to be dissappointed, then this is the way to go!

Put this in a ZX3 Focus with a 700m profile amp, also from crutchfield. I had to turn the gain and bass boost down on the amp cause you could barely hear the music. I was not excpecting this much from one 10inch sub. Qaulity subwoofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I knew JL audio is a great brand. I put this sub in a liberty powered by a fosgate 325.2 and it is a great combo. the bass is more than i expeceted. sounds like two tens. the response is impressive from the highs to the lows. This is a gret little sub. Also the cost is decent...

Great Bass in a Little Package

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Jl Audio has a reputation of making great subs and this is no exception. Considering the price, it's a hard buy to beat. I have a 1996 Jimmy and it does great. The Jimmy is not a bass box but it does fill out the low end the way I like it. Plus, it's a small box that doesn't eat up a lot of cargo room. I power it using an Alpine PDX5 and satisfies my bass requirements.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I always heard JL was the best and I needed a sub for my toyota Corolla, I was on a budget and the price sounded like a lot for just a sub but i went with word of mouth and got it, I didnt want 2 subs because i listen to rock and metal. But let me tell you, this sub GETS the job done. It can withstand insane frequencies, I HIGHLY RECOMEND. This JL kicks, deffinately worth the money.
Gives you a great clean thud!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just replaced a failed, 4-yr old Infinity Basslink sub with this sub coupled with a Profile AP400 amp and I couldn't be happier with the combination. The sub enclosure fits perfectly behind the right rear passenger seat in the cargo area of my 2001 Subaru Forester and the sound is impressive even for a discerning listener like me. If you're in the market for a quality sub at low cost and was considering the Infinity Basslink, I think this sub and the AP400 amp yields higher performance at a slightly lower cost. BTW, I chose the AP400 amp (200W@4ohms bridged) based on JL Audio's optimum amp power recommendations for the 10W1v2 driver.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product will meet your expectations...however, it will not exceed your expectations...as far as filling in your sound with pure, accurate bass, but, the bass does sound good, and the thing that makes me happy with this purchase is...it does bang, well, at least in my little corolla it does

Product Research

Overview: This JL Audio PowerWedge subwoofer enclosure is designed around JL Audio's W1v2 subwoofer, delivering tight, powerful bass. The PowerWedge enclosure is properly sized and tuned for the mounted 10" JL Audio W1v2 woofer and wired for a 4-ohm load.

PowerWedge Enclosure: The PowerWedge enclosure features solid V-groove MDF construction with internal bracing to ensure structural integrity. The subwoofer enclosure features an angled back design to help save space in the cargo area of your vehicle. The W1v2 PowerWedge enclosure is finished in high-grade automotive gray carpet and features a steel-mesh grille to protect the loaded JL Audio W1v2 woofer. The JL Audio PowerWedge enclosure features a pair of gold-plated 5-way binding posts on the left side of the box. The 4-ohm woofer is wired inside the box to provide a 4-ohm load at its speaker terminals. The JL Audio subwoofer enclosure has a installation depth of  11.5".

10" W1v2 Woofer: The JL Audio PowerWedge subwoofer enclosure features a mounted, front-firing 4-ohm 10" JL Audio W1v2-series woofers wired for a 4-ohm impedance load at the enclosure's speaker terminals:

  • Woofer Material: JL Audio W1v2 subwoofer features an injection-molded, metallic-finish polypropylene cone woofer with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo with a butyl rubber surround for added durability, woofer excursion and bass response.
  • Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radius feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at  maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.
  • Interlocking Cone & Dust Cap: The W1v2's utilize a dust cap that is not just glued, but also interlocks with features molded into the cone body for a tight snap-fit. This creates a more rigid cone assembly and a more reliable dust cap attachment.
  • Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
  • Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
  • Vented Reinforcement Collar: The Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability. By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weakness. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes. The VRC also features slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings. This reduces thermal compression effects and enhances reliability.
  • Insert Molded Suspension/Coil/Terminal Sub-Assembly: The W1v2 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. This type of assembly ensures precise lead wire length, lead wire entry and exit angles; and coil to spider perpendicularity.
  • Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the W1v2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
