You need great speakers to turn the audio signals from your car stereo into music. The Evolution™ TR series component speakers take advantage of JL Audio's extensive research and obsessive testing to deliver excellent performance at prices any audio enthusiast can afford.
JL Audio's TR650-CSi component speaker system uses long-excursion 6-3/4" mica-filled polypropylene woofers for enhanced low-frequency response that'll do justice to your drums and bass. The separate 1/2" woven textile dome tweeters broadcast all the little details that bring your music to life. Ferrofluid cooled tweeters and butyl rubber surrounds mean that these component speakers will bring you great music for many years to come.
Note: JL Audio describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
Priced per pair
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
High quality sound for a great price. Sound great even with a stock deck.
Cons: None yet
Installed In 2006 toy tundra. Very minor mods to install in factory location. Flush mounted tweeter in door panel in rear cause there was not any from factory stock head unit. Sounds awesome will update head unit one day
Pros: Priced fair, sounds awesome without amp, and came with options for mounting tweeter
Cons: 0 cons
I returned the in-house budget brand for these JL Audios... No comparison. Of course, they cost 3 times more, so it's not a fair comparison. These speakers reveal what's in the recording. If the music was recorded and mastered well, the cymbals are clear and crisp, horns are sweet and mellow, acoustic guitars are well defined. The lows may be a bit thin but I paired these JLs with some 6.5 KICKERs in the rear and a small Kenwood amp and they sound great together.
Pros: Very musical, Well defined sound field, quality construction
Excellent mids and highs with a surprising amount of midbass. They never distort crossed over at 80hz hpf on a 50w RMS x 4 amplifier. Really exceptional product.
Pros: Piercing highs, excellent mids and midbass. They really shine with the proper amplification and crossover settings.
Cons: Price if anything, but totally worth it.
Fit almost perfectly in 99 Yukon. Had to drill holes to mount. Put tweeters in factory location, only had to notch the plastic out a little. They sound awesome!
Pros: Jl audio
Installed these in my 2011 chevy silverado without the Bose factor upgraded stereo. Speakers work great and I can hears sounds that stock speakers just can not produce. There is not drop in quality as the volume is turned up ( have not turned them up 100% ). Factory eq works well, but uses the manual eq setting and you'll get better sound quality. Mounting the tweeters in stock location sounds just fine.
Pros: Great sound for a good price. Install was quick.
Cons: The universal mounting brackets have to be modified for the main speakers to fit. Easily done with a little dremel work. Stock tweeter covers have to be modified to be reused.
I have an 08' Malibu, and I bought these to replace my "expired" front door speakers. I am running them on the factory stereo so at first I was nervous about decreased bass response and overall output. Those fears were 100% without merit. These speakers sound fantastic. The output is more that adequate, at about 50% volume they make it a challenge to communicate with your passengers, with no distortion, and this is just from the stock 40w head unit. I would imagine they would impress even more run from an aftermarket head unit or external amplifier. The fidelity is also wonderful. The factory stereo was always good enough to please me while I needed to use my car, but I would never chose it over my home theater for listening on purpose. These JL Audios all of a sudden make it not such a crazy idea. The music is definitely far more immersive now. Installation wasn't a problem. The woofers fit like factory with the brackets and wire harness adapters that Crutchfield included. The factory tweeters are concealed behind the A-pillar trim in my Malibu, so if your car is similar you'll need to do some drilling to install the JL tweeters. They come with provisions for flush and surface mounting so you have options. It's not tough. I am very happy with these speakers.
Excellent setup for the price!
I had a pair of 6.5" Focal's and the woofer appeared to be made of a coated paper. They were pretty bright with limited bass. I installed a pair of these JL audio's and I think they're a better product - and cheaper. These JL audio's have really good sound for the money, the bass is pretty good (better than the Focals' I had) and the are flatter whereas the Focals' were brighter. In this case, I prefer the JL's flatter response and deeper bass. I would buy another pair of JL before I bought another pair of Focals. Thanks Crutchfield - as always you ladies and gentlemen are the best!
Pros: Good craftsmanship, good materials, pretty good price and really good sound.
Cons: Can't think of any cons...
I wanted a component system for my Toyota Tacoma but didn't want to have to spent $300.00 right off the bat. JL offered this package at an affordable price, and, it's relatively low power requirements meant that I didn't need to buy an external amp as well. Woofer installation was straight forward with the Crutchfield kit and wiring harnesses. There is no mounting hardware included for the tweeters so be prepared to drill holes, cut your door panel - or do what I did - construct your own bracket so that they fit in the factory tweeter locations. Tweeter mounts are available if you want to search the web. The sound is clear, without any shrillness or tininess so common in many component tweeters. I don't use EQ or Loudness and I feel that the sound is pretty neutral/accurate. Mid-bass has decent punch at medium or greater volume levels; I'm driving the speakers with a Kenwood head unit outputting 22 Watts RMS with no detectable distortion as I push the volume up to 75% of max. I'd definitely like to try out something higher up the JL line but I couldn't be happier with these speakers - a lot of bang for very little buck.
Pros: Clean, neutral sound with low power requirements meaning your factory head unit will work, although not the best choice. JL Audio's great name.
Cons: No tweeter mounting hardware, so not as plug and play as a coaxial. I think this should be made more plainly clear to customers.
I give the sound quality a 5 but install a 3. Got these for my 2011 chevy and the tweeters had to modified to fit. The sound is amazing with just stock head unit you can hear everything. They have no bass power but what do you expect get subs and u won't have a problem
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: No bass
They sound great!
Cons: Only thing was they don't fit a Toyota sequoia so we had to make a bracket.
Efficient (91 db sensitivity) speaker for the price. Can't beat Crutchfield's included installation instructions and accessories to provide ease of installation.
Pros: great sensitivity for the price, rugged construction and makes my 5 year old Ridge feel like a new ride.
Definitely worth the money. I was looking to replace the stock speakers in my silverado(non bose system). I really wanted to add depth to the music. I found these JL's and the reviews looked good so I purchased them. I was hesitant to do the upgrade myself but decided to give it a shot. I found that they were relatively easy to install especially with the brackets and wire harnesses provided by Crutchfield. It took me 3 hours(taking my time to ensure it was done right). Wow what a difference in the sound. I think there is a good amount of base with these speakers. Lots of highs, which I had to adjust down. But overall great sound. For the money, these were outstanding and definitely met my expectations.
These components are great entry level components. Love the inline cross-over, keeps me from having to tweak the settings too much. Simple install, I used the supplied brackets but not the harness. I actually ran these through a PPI Sedona APA50, supplied just enough power to make the sing even better. So far I am loving these things.
Pros: Simple install, sound great. Sounded so good I had to break down and get a "sister" set for the back to balance out the great sound.
Cons: Tweeters not fitting factory bracket, but this was expected.
I put these speakers in my 02' jeep liberty powered by a pioneer DEH-6400BT and compared to stock speakers they perform great. For the price and simplicity of instillation and what not definately worth your money.
Pros: Great highs, loud and crisp
Cons: Average lows, but thats why we have subs
I got these speakers to up grade my 2003 Audi A4s factory Bose speakers, I chose them because they were components without the crossover that i had to worry about hiding somewhere. They turned out to match the sound quality of the factory speakers, even with the power of a 50 watt RMS amp. The woofers had pretty good bass but, the tweeters were very weak even with the treble turned all the way up on my Eclipse 5030 HU, sometimes i had to put my ears right up to them to make sure they were even on!
THESE SPEAKERS DID IMPROVE THE SOUND QUALITY OF MY CAR STEREO (AN ALPINE 9886). I WAS ESPECIALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE SEPERATE TWEETERS THAT CAME WITH THE COMPONENTS, THEY SEEM TO CARRY MUCH MORE SOUND THAN I HAD ANTICIPATED. I FIGURED IT WOULD CONSIST MOSTLY OF HISSY TYPE CYMBAL SOUNDS BUT THEY ACTUALLY PRODUCE QUITE A RANGE OF HIGHS. THE OVERALL SOUND OF BOTH COMPONENTS HAS DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED MY CAR STEREO I AM ABLE TO PLAY THE STEREO MUCH LOUDER THAN IS COMFORTABLE FOR MY EARS WITH NO DISTORTION . I WAS ABLE TO MOUNT THE TWEETERS IN UPPER CORNER OF MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WITH A DOUBLE SIDED FOAM TAPE. THIS LOCATION ALLOWS A DIRECT PATH TO MY EARS. SO FAR THEY HAVEN'T FALLEN OFF. WE'LL SEE ONCE THE WEATHER WARMS UP THE INTERIOR.
CONS, THE PRICE.
I own a 2004 Tundra Access Cab, with two 8" JL subs, an eXcelon deck, and before these speakers, Polk coaxials in all 4 doors.
I didn't really want to install another amp to power components, but I really wanted components... so... I lucked out and got these. MUCH softer, and cleaner highs and decent bass that compliments everything. Just running off of a 4-year old eXcelon deck, they're night and day compared to the coaxials. And, the inline crossover is as easy to hide as the wires themselves.
I had to do a lot of modification to get them to fit in my Tundra doors, but it's a tough truck to mount most speakers.
Again, night and day compared to coaxials, and you don't "need" an amp... just a good powerful head unit.
I installed these in a 2000 chevy silverado 2500 extended cab. They fit right in the doors drilling new mounting holes and modifying the tweeter mount( dremel tool). Along with a pioneer DEH-P77DH deck, pioneer TS-A4672R speakers in the rear panels, a Rockfordfosgate punch P400-2 hooked to a JL audio stealth box with a 10" sub that fits under the rear drivers side. I am driving the speakers from the deck and the sub from the amplifier. Myself and a friend did the instalation in my shop in about 6 hours. I thought the stock system was good until I heard this. This thing sounds great!

Woofers: The JL Audio Evolution TR650-CSi component speakers feature 6-3/4" injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofers with 1" voice coils and flat-profile, symmetrical-roll spiders. The woofers feature long excursion and enhanced low-frequency extension for power, more realistic bass. The woofers use butyl rubber surrounds for reliability and strength.
Tweeters: The TR650-CSi has 1/2" textile dome tweeters with integral phase plugs and powerful, ferro-fluid cooled and damped neodymium magnets. You can mount the tweeters in the supplied flush-mount or surface-mount fixtures. The tweeters do not swivel or angle in the flush-mount or surface-mount fixtures.

Crossovers: The TR650-CSi components use electrolytic capacitors on the in-line 1st order high-pass filters. The woofer is unfiltered, using its engineered smooth roll-off characteristics to blend with its tweeter. The Polyswitch electronic tweeter protection circuit is designed to minimize the possibility of tweeter failure. It monitors current going to the tweeter and will disconnect the tweeter from the signal when it senses overload. Once the volume has been reduced, the protection circuit will reset itself automatically.
Grilles: Two black metal mesh grilles and black ABS plastic grille frames are included with the speakers.

It has in line crossovers for the tweeters. No need to do any "installation" for them and they sound amazing. [ Aaron Jun 12, 2014 ]
No cross overs [ BOBBY Jun 12, 2014 ]
The TR650-CSi comes with speaker wire and a separately wired high-capacity crossover for the tweeter. There is no included crossover for the woofer nor is there a two way passive crossover network included. [ Paul Jun 12, 2014 ]
These speakers do not come with pre-built crossovers but do have capacitors and inductors that act as high pass and low pass filters. I am personally very happy with these relatively low powered speakers as they produce clear sound far superior to the factory speakers in my Honda Ridgeline and did not require an additional amplifier. Hard to beat a 91 dB sensitivity rated speaker for what I paid for these speakers. If you're looking for a more efficient speaker (93 dB) you're paying a premium and probably would never identify any difference in modern music. [ Eddie Jun 12, 2014 ]
It had an inline filter, they worked pretty good! [ Marlon Jun 12, 2014 ]
I really don't know. I bought these for a friend and we are waiting on his 64 bel air to get upholstery before we do install. Wish I could be more help but we haven't even opened the box yet. [ DAVID J Jun 12, 2014 ]
In-line crossover between woofer and tweeter.?? [ Randy Jun 12, 2014 ]
