Our take on the Scosche BlueFusion Honda Bluetooth® Interface

by Zak Billmeier
Scosche

Don't you wish you could take that little headset out of your ear while you're on the road? Now you can add the convenience of Bluetooth hands-free calling to your Honda factory stereo with this Scosche BlueFusion module. You'll hear your caller over your car's speakers, letting you keep your hands on the wheel. And if your phone supports it, you can even stream tunes to the stereo while your phone stays stashed in your pocket or purse.

Once your phone is paired, it'll connect to your stereo every time you turn on your car. You'll see who's calling on your stereo's screen when a call comes in, and you can answer the call using your vehicle's steering wheel controls — you won't have to take your eyes off the road. Scosche's echo-canceling microphone ensures your callers will hear you loud and clear.

Bluetooth note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Bluetooth Compatibility: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and A2DP streaming from your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone and portable digital music player.

Note: Scosche does not guarantee 100% compatibility with all Bluetooth enabled device. Some cellular phone manufactures utilize a Bluetooth microprocessor that is not compatible with the BlueFusion system. Some phones from Palm, LG (Envy/Envy2), Samsung (Impression), and HTC (Omni) have exhibited operating difficulties with the BlueFusion system.

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone must be paired with the Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface. Once the initial pairing process has been complete, your phone will easily connect and disconnect to the BFHAK Bluetooth Interface.

Note: The BlueFusion BFHAK will pair to only one phone at a time.

Auto Connect/Disconnect: When your vehicle is started, the BlueFusion BFHAK will automatically connect to the Bluetooth enabled device which it was last paired. If you are on an active call or listening to streaming audio and the vehicle is turned off, the BlueFusion BFHAK will automatically transfer the call to the handset or your audio back to the player.

Source Select: The BlueFusion system functions as an XM source through your vehicle's factory radio. In order to access BlueFusion, the XM band must be selected. If listening to a source other than XM, BlueFusion will automatically switch to the XM band when there is an incoming call.

Note: When the call is ended your factory radio may not automatically switch back to the previous source unless the previous source was XM. You may need to manually switch back to your previous source.

Hands-Free Communication: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) seamlessly integrates your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone into your vehicle's factory audio system. You will hear a ring-tone through your vehicle's speaker and Caller ID will display on your factory radio's screen. The Scosche BFHAK will automatically mute your music on any source as a call comes in. Simply press the answer/hang up button on the factory radio or steering wheel to answer or end the call. The included high-fidelity microphone and your vehicle's factory speakers allow you to carry on your phone conversation.

External Microphone: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) includes an external microphone with DSP echo cancellation to ensure a crystal clear conversation. The included microphone can mounted to your vehicle's visor, headliner, or dash. The microphone should be aimed towards the driver's seat. The microphone measures 0.5625" in diameter x 1.125" in depth.

Making A Call: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) offers various hands-free calling methods.

  • Voice Dial: The BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface supports voice dialing with compatible Bluetooth cellular phones.
  • Call Log: You can make a call using the BlueFusion system's incoming, outgoing, or missed call logs from your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel controls.
  • Handset: When making an outgoing call directly from your cell-phone, the factory radio will automatically switch to the BlueFusion source and send hands-free audio through the factory speakers.

Note: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) does not support numeric dialing from the factory radio or steering wheel controls. It also does not support the Bluetooth Phonebook profile.

Call Waiting: The Scosche BFHAK supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.

Conference Call: The Scosche BFHAK also lets you receive two calls at once so you can talk to two people at once. Your cell-phone must also support this feature.

Privacy Mode: You can use your factory radio or steering wheel controls to send the conversation back to your cell-phone for more privacy.

Audio Streaming: The Scosche BlueFusion Bluetooth Interface (BFHAK) supports steaming music with most Bluetooth A2DP enabled cell-phones and digital audio players. You will be able to control basic playback functions such as Play, Pause, Next Track, or Previous Track from your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel controls.

Note: There must first be a phone paired to the BlueFusion BFHAK before pairing a secondary Bluetooth enabled A2DP device. While streaming Bluetooth audio, redial and voice dial functions are disabled.

Volume Level: You can adjust the volume level for Bluetooth audio and Bluetooth hands-free communication independently from your vehicle's stereo system to match the volume levels of other audio sources.

Works nicely with my Acura RDX

Written By LuisM, Denver, CO on Monday, November 05, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was straightforward, except that the package did not come w/ a T-tap for the steering wheel controls. Product works well, as advertised, and allows bluetooth streaming as well as phone calls. Unfortunately it doesn't sync with the contacts directory of my Samsung Galaxy S II, but I don't attribute that to a flaw in the product. Overall, very pleased with it to have an aftermarket bluetooth incorporated into the factory audio setup in this model of car. Crutchfield service was excellent.

Great Product

Written By Hands-Free Caller, Mesa, AZ on Sunday, August 19, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome product; saved me tons of $$$. Bluetooth was a feature my wife wanted in her vehicle. Though overall she loves her van, If this hadn't worked I would have had to buy her a new car! Easily brought new technology into the older car; the BlueFusion even has more features/capability than the bluetooth in my newer BMW! Call quality is good, and great to be able to stream music.
Pros:
Quick/Easy to install (less than 1-hour)! Full of features, slick/ elegant integration and use of the existing OEM controls. Works great, wife loves it. Wife happy; I'm happy.
Cons:
Caveating my comment in Pros on easy to install, (and the reason for only 4-stars). The installation instructions required a magnifying glass to read, and weren't often clear as to which connector they were referring. Also, they kept referring to a supplied T-tap, that was NOT in fact supplied.

Scosche BlueFusion BFHAK for 2007 Honda CRV EX-L w/Navigation

Written By McSpiffy, Oswego, IL on Monday, July 30, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I originally ordered the iSimple Gateway and had it installed and it worked well; I realized that I needed the additional iSimple Bluetooth Add-on module - although their promotional video clearly shows someone taking a phone call under the iSimple Gateway product - and thus purchased it and had an electronics retailer install it. Result: lost almost all functionality or the Gateway (no music information displayed, impossible to navigate through music on iPod) and also the Bluetooth call quality was atrocious. I called/e-mailed the iSimple tech support several times and they were prompt with their replies . . . unfortunately, nothing worked and their trouble-shooting was ineffective/sparse. I paid another fee to have it all removed and then opted to install the Schosche Bluefusion. Schosche needs to update their FAQs/product information to reflect what is compatible. I got a quick reply from Schosche and was told to look at the code listed below the lower right knob on my display; matched up the code and determined that my unit was compatible . . . SUCCESS! An electronics retailer did the install and the product works like a charm. Music is clear and audible (without having to crank up the volume, unlike the iSimple device) and navigating songs on the iPhone is simple and direct. This product works as advertised! Crutchfield directs could have been more detailed - it showed how to disassemble dash to access the back of the radio/navigation but stopped there!
Pros:
Works as advertised - great product!
Cons:
Crutchfield needs greater detail in instructions - disassembly instructions were good but there was nothing further on how to connect up the steering wheel control wire. I ended up having a retailer install it.

This product is absolutely horrible

Written By Bryan M., Odenton, MD on Thursday, January 26, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product does work, just horribly. And for the price, a product should perform way better. The volume while streaming audio is very, very low. So, in turn you must crank both your smartphone and your radio to full blast. However, the phone interface is ridiculously loud, so when a call comes in, you lose an eardrum. I was fine losing an XM preset for this device, but it takes over both your phone's Bluetooth as well as your car's radio. XM wasn't even usable while this thing was installed. Even when you exit the car, all heck breaks loose because there a 10 second delay (at least) before it will relinquish control of your phone's Bluetooth back to your phone. The only viable option is to either a) switch off your phone's Bluetooth when you need to make and receive calls, or b) cancel your XM subscription, because you'll never be able to use it will you have this thing installed. Mind you, I'm not talking about while an active call is in progress, I'm talking about if this thing is within 300 feet of your vehicle or phone. It's a parasite! A cancer!!! And I'm pretty sure it's alive!!!!!
Pros:
It does install easy, and it does work. The instructions provided by Crutchfield were great. And for a brief second, I had Bluetooth in my car!
Cons:
The instructions provided by Scosche were worthless! And worse, I called their tech support and they were worth less than worthless. Scosche's support is terrible. Moreover, the streaming audio plays too low, the device's phone interface is too loud, and the product as a whole is a leech that will take over your phone and your system. For 300 bucks, you shouldn't be frustrated with the product you buy...unless you buy this.

Product works great as advertised. Instructions should be clearer for steering wheel control installation, but one call to Crutchfield tech support clarified things.

Scosche BlueFusion Honda Bluetooth® Interface

Written By Lloyd, Everett, WA on Thursday, April 14, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this item for a 2007 Honda CRV with NAV. The package said not
compatible with NAV but after contacting Scosche I was told it would work. Had it
professionally installed and it was worth the money. I could have done it but it
would have been a long slow process.
The BT works great. I would recommend this product for its simplicity and quality.

Scosche BlueFusion Honda Bluetooth® Interface

Couldn't be more pleased with the install or operation of the Bluefusion unit. I have been using it now for a month both for streaming music and hands free phone. The music sounds as good as a CD or using the aux jack on the car.
