Directions were easy to follow. Performs as expected but chimes are loud and distorted. Called Crutchfield and learned that there is no way to adjust the volume on this unit (but others do allow it)

Pros: Performs as expected. Appears to be good quality.

Cons: Loud.

It's pretty straight forward. Follow the instructions and wire it in and you retain your door/headlight chimes and all that. Be warned though when testing it all before mounting that box exposed is LOUD!!!

Pros: Retain factory chimes in GM vehicle

Cons: None

Wired it all up and installed it in a 2006 Equinox, but no sound. After some research I found it had no wire to turn on the factory amp. I made the missing connection, and all was well. If they would have added one wire to the harness it would have been a snap.

Pros: It works. Has door chime built in.

Cons: May take extra effort to wire. Door chime is really loud. Put tape over mine.

Connector missing wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Warning chimes sounds cheep and mechanical. Have to splice lots of wire, connector not fully filled. Why not? For what you pay you should not have to splice into the radio wiring, I would expect plug and play! I had to do a lot more splicing than should be necessary. Would not buy again.

Pros: Functional, barely.

Cons: Connector not fully populated. Should have all pins and wired, stupid not too. Warning chimes sound horrible. Would not buy this product again. I will later look into replacing it with a better quality product that sounds better.

Pros: Makes your stereo connection easy. Wire colors typically match.

Cons: Instructions weren't the greatest.

I've never needed an integration adaptor on any of my cars before. Compared to some of the other reviews, my chime still sounds factory and isn't weak at all. Color for color splices and it works great. Does exactly what it's supposed to do. But if you're reinstalling a head unit from a previous car, it is pricey.

Pros: Ease of installation

Cons: Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once I figured out that one of the connectors to the OEM wasn't used in the new connection (instruction sheet didn't say anything about it) this made for a seamless transition to my new radio. All the warning tones and stuff works just fine. Never done one of these installs before so I can't advise if this adapter is 100% essential or not - but it worked fine for me. You will need Crimp Connectors or soldering iron to connect adapter to wiring harnes, I recommend given the vibrations present in an Auto that you not use the "wire twist nut" option unless you want to be pulling your dash board apart every couple months to tighten the nuts...

Pros: Color coding makes it a breeze.

Cons: If you are not familiar with using crimp connectors or soldering - this will be challenging at first. Also if you are Color Blind - stop now and consider getting help installing your new radio - you need good color vision to install this adapter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit made it easier to install my new system and keep the bells. Issue is that it did not come with my car's factory amp wire in the harness for my Pontiac Torrent. This threw me off during installation for a while and i required instructions from Crutchfield on how to adapt to this quirk.

Pros: All wires included were in right place to match my factory harness. Sound of chimes is loud and uneven.

Cons: Should include blue AMP wire to match one in Pioneer unit for amplifier.

This adapter is only ok

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this adapter to install a Pioneer DEH-X8500BS receiver in my 2006 Chevy Equinox. The primary failing of the adapter is that it was missing 2 connections to the electrical system of my Equinox. Additionally, I had to find a 12v accessory connection to finish the install. This resulted in me splicing 2 connections into the wiring harness. Not an overly difficult thing but, something I was looking to avoid. Finally, make sure you have plenty of room behind your dash for the chime unit as it is about the size of a small remote control. As usual, the Crutchfield support desk saved the day with INSTANT access to experts who were able to immediately tell me the solution. A final warning to other Equinox owners, invest in a drill with a flexible shaft so you can more easily drill a ground connection. The front of the Equinox is mostly plastic and metal for grounds is tough to come by.

Pros: Quick and neat. Crutchfield support patient and informative. Great folks to deal with

Cons: Missing wires in adapter necessitated splices to the wiring harness.

chime is kind of cheap sounding

Written by: overall happy, 2005 Equinox from Bedford, TX on May 14, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Sony receiver, very nice, they allow you however to opt out of purchasing the GM Integration Adapter. Not a great idea since you have to have the little bugger. So I wasted a week and ended up ordering it anyway. Very easy to install with a little phone help which was also very professional and helpful, especially since it was Sunday. Works like a charm and the stereo sounds great!

Pros: easy install except blue/white wire on the adapter hooks to orange wire on car OEM connector, light blue wire is not hooked to anything, this is what I had to call about. The info may have been provided in the install kit, but I could not find it, easier to just make the call-

Cons: this makes your chimes work, however the chime sounds cheap and a little cheesy like it's trying to warm up it's annoying little voice

Easier than expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The install was a quick connection between the existing wiring harness in the vehicle and this GM adapter. The GM adapter connected to the supplied harness with the new stereo unit. The GM adaptor and the new stereo's wiring harness connected easily with the wiring diagrams provided. Soldering was very simple. The existing factory harness and the GM adapter connected without issues and I had power and sound right away. Could not have been easier! Istalled on my wife's 2005 Equinox. She is one happy customer! I got major points for this one.

Pros: Ease of install. All power and sound contained in the adapter and harness. No tracking down extra wires for power.

Cons: Finding a loctaion to connect the ground. Not a big deal, but takes some effort.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It does everything that it is supposed to do, but it sure does have an annoying excuse of a chime when you turn the ignition to "ON." I hate the sound it makes, but it sure did make installation a breeze in my 2005 Chevy Equinox. Allows radio to stay on for a few minutes after key is removed from ignition or until a door is opened, just like with the factory radio. Price is a little steep, but it beats having to trace down ignition wires.

As easy to install as any wiring harness adapter. It would be nice if it controlled the dim settings which should be possible. It does provide switched 12V which the factory harness does not. This greatly simplifies the install. Add the dim control and this would be perfect.

Instructions simple. Does what it is suppoesed to and comes with all the basics. But for the money, it should have more of the optional wires. Had to tap into the factory wiring for my factory steering wheel controls because this harness did not have it nor did the harness have the dimmer wire, which both my new radio and the factory set up had available. For the amount of money that this harness cost, it should have all the optional wiring available without having to tap into the factory harness.

Features

Compatibility: The Scosche DCGM16B GM Chime and Data Integration Interface enables the installation of an aftermarket radio without retaining the factory radio. This device replicates the factory warning chime, provides a data-bus integrated 12-volt accessory powered output that is fully compatible with GM's Retain Accessory Power (RAP) system. The RAP function keeps the aftermarket radio powered up after the key has been turned off or until a door is open, as it did with the factory radio installed. The interface also issues data commands that maintain a "Healthy" system status to the vehicle's system check.

Note: This interface does not retain OnStar.

Compatibility: The DCGM16B interface is compatible with the following GM vehicles.

  • Chevrolet: 2005-2006 Equinox
  • Pontiac: 2006 Torrent

Note: Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

Interface: The DCGM16B interface includes a module box and an attached 17" harness.

  • Module Box: The module box measures 4.425" wide x 1.09" tall x 1.521" deep. The box has a total of 4 wires connected to the end of it. A single, bare, red 12-volt lead and three other wires attached to the harness. The module box has no controls.
  • Harness: The interface includes a 24-pin harness with 11 wire leads. The harness attaches to the module box with the 12-volt constant wire (yellow), ground wire (black) and RAP wire (purple/white). The harness also includes front and rear, left and right speaker leads.

Note: The 12-volt accessory output is rated only at 2-amps. It is designed for the new aftermarket radio only. If any additional circuits are required, and optional relay is needed.

Factory Subwoofer: If your factory radio includes a subwoofer, the remote turn-on wire from the new head unit must be spliced into the factory harness; this interface has no provision to turn on the subwoofer's amplifier.
