Protect your wiring and your vehicle

An EFX mini-ANL fuse will protect your wiring and your ride if anything goes wrong with your amplifier's power flow, like a short circuit or a broken wire. I have 5 35amp fuses in my amp should i use a 100 watt inline fuse are a 200 amp inline fuse...under the hood coming from the battery?

A
5x35= 175 amps. 175 amp fuse is what you're after. 200 is plenty big enough

They make 150amp fuses; you would be better off with one of those. Ideally you add up the total of the fuses in the amp and run that as your inline.

A
You have the potential for a 175 amp draw, you will need the 200, the fuse under hood is there to keep your car from burning should you have a short.

Ideally you want them as close as possible. The inline fuse is there to protect the power cable from a short. You would not want to fuse it above he capability of the cable. The fuses at the amp protect the amp from drawing too much power or shorting the amp, and should be a theoretical maximum draw. I would fuse the cable at 150 amps assuming that is below the cables limit to handle safely.

Q
Will a 200 amp anl fuse, for the BIG 3 upgrade, be fine for a 100 amp alternator or will it be too much and/or unsafe?( 1/0 gauge) Thanks

A
If your fuses are rated higher than your system, current or what your battery/altinator pushes out, it won't hurt anything, although not recommended. Use 100 amp fuses for a 100 amp system Mostly recommend to match the amp rating on your amp or system total.

I Am not sure, the staff at Crutchfield may be able to answer that for you. I had them help putting together my system. Things have changed since my last install lol
greg  Dec 07, 2015
A
The fuse should equal, or only slightly exceed the sum of all fuses across all equipment power by the feed. The only concern with the alternator is going to be voltage dropping if the system is exceeding the power delivery of the alternator and the reserve capacity battery is depleted.
