EFX 8-gauge wiring kit

Written by: JerrodA from Glasgow, KY on July 27, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seems like a decent wiring kit, especially since I got it free with the amp I purchased from Crutchfield. It does have a unique fuse which may be hard to find if I need one in the future, but it comes with an extra one and I got my equipment hooked up without blowing it so I'm not too worried about it. The power wire is only 17' long. My old one was 20' and this new one was almost too short by the time I routed it from the battery to the drivers side of the truck, into the cab to behind the seats and then to the passenger seat where my amp is located. I took the long way around but couldn't find a good place to bring it thru on passenger side. I have an 09 reg cab silverado.

Pros: Free with Sound ordnance amp purchase

Cons: only 17' long special fuse that is not common

Exactly what I needed!

Written by: Paul from Denver, CO on July 20, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp wiring kit was a great price and had everything needed. I did supply a small amount of speaker wire to run from the amp to the speakers, and that is fine as this was not sold as an amp and speaker wiring kit.

Pros: Great quality Plenty of wire length for my 2010 Scion Xb Easy install if you know what you are doing.

Cons: The kit comes with a small bag filled with wiring ends and fuses, but the instructions do not mention when and where to use these. Not a big deal as most should be able to figure it out, but for the novice do it yourself-er a little more information would help. Along these same lines, this is a wiring kit that is being hooked to an electrical source. Including some basic information on how to properly ground and test the install as you go, would help insure safety, and avoid novice mistakes.

JT

Written by: JT from Rockford, IL on June 30, 2014

Wire is great and everything you need is there. Here's the problem, the fusible link that comes with the system has a couple of cheap blade connectors to hold the fuse in place. I would get drop out now and again at louder volumes and the amp is buried, so it's hard to see if it was a protect issue or what. I tore the entire back out to get to the amp and see that the amp in not powered. wtf? I checked all the grounds and that only left the hot side. After RMAing the amp one time and having the same issue with the new amp I finially got to the fuse and when I pulled it, it came out very easy, too easy. I took a pair of pliers and crimped the blade connectors down a bit and installed it and it was fixed... lot of messing around because they cheaped out on the fusible link.

Pros: Wire and cable are good

Cons: Bad fusible link allows intermittent connection. Make sure you have a solid connection for the fuse-able link!!!

I used this to install a 4 channel amp in a 1998 Grand Prix Sedan, it works like it should. I have another amp install kit (also 8 gauge) by Boss, and I'm going to replace the Boss wiring with this as soon as I get the money. I think this is true 8 gauge wire, unlike my Boss wire.

Pros: True 8 gauge, good and thick RCA's

Cons: Power wire could be a little longer. I have a Grand Prix and it was just barely long enough to make it to the top of the trunk

I've been in car audio for 16 years now. I don't do it professionally, but I've installed my far share of systems over the years. This kit comes with everything you need for an install and all the kits I've seen it has the best cables you can get for the price of other kits.

Pros: Twisted pair RCA cables Two fuses ANL style which I find to be alot better than the round style fuses. plent of remote wire Ends alread crimpt on for power and ground wires. Overall for a cheap price compared to name brand kits It's just as good.

Cons: Power wire maybe a little short for some vehicles. I think it should have 20ft instead of 17.5ft Ground wire is a little to long RCA's could fit a little snugger around the rca jack.

Pros: Splitloom for under the hood, Grommet, and extra fuse

Cons: 17-ft Stereo RCA interconnect cable seems to be a little on the cheap side. One of the connectors broke off the cable during the cable run. I had to use speaker wires from the stereo instead.

8ga wire was what I needed to wire up, so no problems there. Everything fit on my amp, but I could see where the limited number of connectors provided for the power, ground, and remote wires might need different connectors to fit on the set screws (don't know that for a fact, though). Power wire might also be a bit short for other vehicles, but it reached from battery to the trunk with about 3-5 inches to spare in my 2013 Civic LX.

Pros: Easy to connect

Cons: power wire could be longer for larger vehicles

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First amp install and I used this kit. Couldn't be happier with the quality of the wires. I was little disappointed in the size and quality of the split loom they provided. Very cheap and impacted the 5-stars I would have given if it wasn't for that. At this point in time, no issues or concerns.

Pros: All wires (ground, power, remote) were long enough and good quality. Although the wire sheath was strong, I still used aftermarket split loom to run the entire distance between connections for added protections.

Cons: The included split loom by EFX is junk, run down to your local automotive store and grab 20-30' of 3/8". It'll get the job done.

Barely long enough

Written by: DanW from Davison, MI on January 12, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were the perfect cable set. However, when I went to pull the power line, it was just barely long enough to make the whole route from the battery terminal through the firewall, along next to the seat, through the back wall, and to the amp. My care is a tiny Honda Civic, so I was surprised when I was so limited in cable length. I would hate to think if I was pulling the same cable through a full sized car. When I finally reached the trunk, I had so little left, I only had one option for placing the amp. I had to put it right next to where the cable entered the trunk on the floor. I had hopes of side mounting the amp, but that wasn't possible. I would recommend they add another foot or 2 to the cable so that people have options. This kit is best suited for a truck installation.

Pros: - top quality cables remain pliable even in the cold of winter - cable guard makes for a professional look - included fuse fits a professional installation

Cons: - limited main battery cable length

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The EFX 8-gauge Amp Kit is a great entry/mid level amp kit. Includes everything you'll need to get going where as some kits don't come with RCA cables etc. 8G is enough for any simple setups, and my JL Amp called for 8G - no need for 6 or 4. The fuses are pretty rare tho, so you'll need an ebay account to order me if you start blowing them.

Pros: Comes with everything! Price is great

Cons: Fuses are unique. RCA's are braided so cannot be split for mono amps.

Great Amp Wiring Kit

Written by: TylerH from Cincinnati, OH on February 10, 2012

All of the cables are heavy duty and bulky, which I personally like. All cables were plenty long enough, no shortages in wire. Easy to hide also, if you know what you are doing. Not bad for the price at all.

This is a very complete kit of quality components. The wires are of excellent quality and plenty of length to reach the subwoofer I installed under the back seat of my 2006 Toyota Tundra access cab. I would have rated 5 stars but the spade lugs for the ground and power cables could have been a little beefier.

Pros: Everything I needed and more. Good quality.

Cons: The spade lugs for the ground and power cable could have been a little beefier.

Great wiring kit

Written by: DanJ from San Diego, CA on February 7, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit has everything needed. The main power wire was long enough for wiring to my powered subwoofer to back seat of my 2007 Honda Ridgeline. The Amp wires were also long enough to go from head unit to the powered sub as well. the connectors were sized correctly for the wiring as well. Though the connectors are VERY rigid- (not necessarily a bad thing, but you have to CRIMP very hard). I actually hadn't crimped hard enough on the ground and kept wondering why my amp would power up, then immediately turn off- after checking connections I realized the ground was 'barely' crimped.

Pros: Long wires/fuses/ etc.

Cons: connectors require a HARD crimping (not necessarily a bad thing if you know ahead of time)

Pros: Good build quality. Had 2 extra feet of cable after getting the cables to the trunk ('02 Subaru Legacy sedan).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have never understood why alot of people thought you had to spend big bucks on an amplifier wiring kit. Componants of these kits are fairly general and not alot of real differences. Cable is cable. The fuse junction and RCA patch cables are really the only thing that you do not want to skimp on. This kit was perfect for my amplifier install, with enough cable to reach the entire length of my vehicle, and with the braided patch cables and covered fuse block, did just what I expected. It simplified the installation, and where it is visible on the vehicle (engine compartment and truck at the amp) it looks good.

Pros: Looks, performance, PRICE!

I got this wire kit with the Powered Sub. Not a bad kit and for free very good deal. The lenght run was perfect from the trunk to the engine battery (cut off about 12" extra). Nice gauge and everything was included. One comment the terminal ends are pretty cheap. I replaced them with my own and I think you should do the same. 5 mins extra to crimp and well worth it, especially if the stock ones breaks, which they did for me.

Pros: Very good for free, perfect for low powered subs. Length was good.

Cons: Cheap Wire terminals that will break. But again its not a $200 wire set.

Pros: It was free with my order. Wire was decent.

I always trust Crutchfield to select a good product to sell. Previously paid the same amount for another brand amp wiring kit from a local electronics shop and was really disappointed. What was I thinking? Came to Crutchfield and that was fixed in a jiffy. This kits is one of those higher quality kits that has everything you need. Even the inline fuse seems to of better quality than usual. Extra long power wire should be long enough for most amp install.

For the price of this kit, I don't see how anyone complain about it.

Has worked fine for this first month. It was a little tough mounting the fuse holder in my 2006 Honda CR-V (hard to find a good place), but it worked out fine. Don't spend the money on thicker wire unless Crutchfield's wire sizing indicates it's a good idea. Also, notice the amperage of fuse required for the amplifier and verify that you can find that amperage & type of fuse for this fuse holder.

Overall, I feel the wiring kit was a great value. My only complaint is that the 12" power cable that runs from the battery post to the fuse holder is to short to use on vehicles that have their battery mounted with the positive terminal toward the center of the vehicle. I needed to replace the supplied 12' cable with an 18" cable. Otherwise great value and I would have rated the kit a 5. No noise induced through the use of this kit.

Written by: Greg from Westfield, IN on July 6, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit is all you need to hook up your amp to your car with minimum hassle.

Pros:
+ 17 feet is just enough to get from the front of a Honda Civic to the trunk with little / no extra.
+ Somewhat attractive.
+ Has fuse in-line with an extra in the box.
+ Rings on the end of the cables (one less thing to crimp).
+ Small enough that I could push underneath the plastic on either side of the car, hiding the cables with no car modifications.

Cons:
- Barely long enough...
- The RCA cables are twisted around each other... I'm not sure that this actually helps anything. I think that the positive and negative of the R/L channels need to be twisted to gain any shielding effects (this is how it works in CAT-5/6 and phone lines).
- Bright colors do not fit in so well with most cars!
- The casing of the power cables seems a little bit thin.

Pros:

Cons:

Nothing else needed for an amp install (2 channel)

Written by: Huseyin from USA on July 5, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first time installing an amp and subwoofer, and I got this with recommendation of the crutchfield adviser. It comes with everything you need. Even though some members mentioned it is impossible to find the fuse elsewhere, it does come with two fuses, and luckily I did not blow any when I was installing.
It comes with more than what you see on the picture, just check "what's included" on the left side.
It would be great if it came with 4 channels instead of just 2, because it comes with 1 RCA cable with L/R. I would have paid $5 or $10 more for another RCA cable. Also I wish it also came with a few feet of speaker cables, but it is no biggie. I can't say anything about reliability it only has been few weeks. I see no reason to give it less than 5 stars, it served me well. One issue, though: The ring ends are a bit tough to clamp, you need to squeeze the heck out of them to clamp them to ends of wires. (they come with one ends already clamped). I also had to wrap them with electrical tape because the existing tube was too lose.

Cons:

This is a easy to set up amp kit. Comes with everything needed to do the install. Wires are long enough with extra from the battery to my trunk (4-door). Wires are good thickness. But like everyone else the fuse is wierd. Takes awhile just to put it in and would seem like pretty hard to find a fuse like it.

I got this amp wiring kit today. At the look of it it seemed fair for the price. I was displeased with the length of the ground wire and the entire fuse setup. My fuses didn't blow but i accidentally drooped both of them and no longer can find them. Anyways I inquired about buying a new fuse, seemed simple enough. I went to local electronics stores and no luck. Nobody had it and half the people there never saw anything like it in their life. Overall rare fuse to come by. I installed a separate fuse holder and it works a lot better. Besides that good overall product.

EFX 8-gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit

Written by: John from Mechanicsville, VA on March 15, 2009

This is a good product for single amp hook-up. The power and ground wires aren't the best quality I've used as the individual stands are quite stiff; however, overall the power wire was flexible enough that it didn't cause problems during routing and installation. Liked that the RCA's were wrapped for the entire length, but had to slightly bend one of them because of a loose connection to the amp input jack. Not sure why most are so concerned about the fuses. Experience tells me that if you are blowing multiple fuses something must be wrong.

This is all you need to hook up an amp. Thick cable, great quality. excellent RCA cable. As mentioned in other reviews the fuse and holder are a bit cheesy. After you use the two supplied fuses I do not know where you would find a replacement fuse in this style. I would not think that this should be an issue as you can buy a standard blade style fuse and fuse holder for $5, replace the supplied one if it becomes an issue and still save $20 over the next priced wiring kit.

Written by: DanielJ from Pella,IA on August 1, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well it does what you ask it to do, feed amps. Not much else. The fuse holder is weak, others have said that they wish they had another fuse because they blew theirs. Well if you look in the package, like I did, Whoa there are two. So it does come with an extra. Why then do not have a tube or blade fuse who know, the people who made these probably got them on sale so they used them. The brand Scosche, what it says on the box, doesn't sound like a very high quality place.

Good for wiring and making a really difficult to install fuse and very easy to drop fuse, in you engine compartment.

Great Quality, but not perfect setup

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used the kit to wire a 2001 Mustang. The quality of all key componants is excellent and I would buy it again without hesitation. I do have two small issues though: 1) the main power wire is just long enough to reach behind the back seat, severely limiting the placement of the amp in the trunk. This is with a direct run down the left side of the body. Would not have reached on anything longer. The remote turn on wire is supposed to be the same length & can almost reach the car behind me. 2) make sure you have your own wire ties for a clean install the ones in the kit were poorly made.

Squeezing 360 watts RMS through these cables they have great sound quality and come with about everything you need. I was extremely worried about getting this one as it's the cheapest of the choices on Crutchfield and replacement fuses are difficult to get but its a nice looking kit with great sound quality i've had no problems from it yet.

Everything seems to be working fine except the RCA cable. it looked like it was pretty high quality but all i get is horrid noise with it. I have a second RCA cable by streetwires and that one is working flawlessly...now I gotta order another streetwire RCA cable to fix this problem....

if you want a simple wiring kit, buy something else more reliable. I have to put my installation on hold now...

These wires are great, but if you do some shopping, like at one of those sites that is named after a huge river in South America, you can save a little dough. I kick myself for not shopping around.

Nice product. Here's my setup. 2000 GMC SIERRA-EXT.CAB.
I put Blaupunkt MP-35,POLK db 675 speakers in front, a M-44 amp, and 2-MTX THUNDER 10" subs under rear seat. The pain is pulling the speaker and power cables. fyi. for the power cable to the amp, there is a rubber gasket behind the break pedal. i punched a hole in it, instead of drilling through the firewall. I recommend purchasing the noise loop isolator as well. I had engine noise prior to installing it. installng the head unit is a breeze. hardest part is pulling the cables as i said. A ++ HELP FROM CRUTCHFIELD.

not worth the cost savings

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this set hoping to save a few dollars. As another reviewer points out the EFX fuse is not only unique to them but an extreme pain to work with. The design looks like it should pivot in, it doesn't. I had to remove the mounting screws. This sounds simple but the fuse holder is huge so I had to mount it up and under a few things (I left the fuse out so I wouldn't have to disconnect my battery.)

The power and ground cables come with huge mounting loops. I made the ground work with some washers but had to clip off the power, which left me without enough connectors. I live in a remote area so 8 gauge connectors are not easy to come by. Standard 8 gauge connectors work perfectly in my BMW's fuse block.

The last straw was when I went to use the included wire ties and found that NONE of them had enough teeth to grab and wouldn't work.

Never again...

Fuse = Bad Idea

Written by: david from Phoenix, AZ on February 6, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When ordering some alpine subs, I decided to go with the EFX wiring kit instead of the more expensive StreetWires kit. The amp kit went in pretty easily, but in the process of moving some seats around, the amp's power cord was clipped and the fuse in the powerline (installed next to the car battery) blew.

This was my own fault - I'll admit that. I'm an amatuer, learning as I go. But finding an replacement EFX fuse is nearly impossible. They made it so specially designed that you have to special order it...while most other amp wiring kits have parallel/slot fuses that plug right in, and are much easier to find anyplace you look for them.

My recommendation would be to go with the StreetWires instead, or go with another kit - where you can more easily find and replace fuses.

This wiring kit came with everything I needed to install my Kicker 150.2 amp in my 97 Ford Ranger except for speaker wire which was no big deal. It was easy to install, and it had easy to follow directions. It also had plenty of extra wire so you don't fall short. For the price for what all was included you can't bet it. I HIGHLY recommend this product to first timers or pros.

EFX 8-gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well worth the $30. Very easy to install in my 98 corolla, love the blue color ,adds coolness to my trunk. It deos need like 2-4 inchs more added between the Fuse holder and the battery attachment. I attached the fuse holder to my fuse box. it looks cool. I found that striping the 8 gauge wires was a little hard due to the very thick soround the wire is incased in.

all in all, good product. I have it hooked up to a lightning audio 760watt amp and a kenwood 10" sub in a custom boxm and i have upgraded the fuse on the amp kit to a 80 amp fuse reall easy to install.

dont froget people to dis conect the fuse from the battery when you work on your amplifier. Trust my advice or you'll get a shocking surprise!!!!( Live wire+ screw driver+ me rushing= quick jolt to remind me).
