Not Even Close

Written by: PTR from Austin, TX on April 3, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered 5 1/2" round Kenwwods to replace the 6 X 9 junk in my daughter's car. Crutchfield threw these in for free. Not Even Close to fitting. The OD of the bracket was so small they almost fell through the ID of the existing holes. Had to run up to a local retailer to get 6 X 9s. Defeated the whole purpose of ordering from Crutchfield.

Pros: "Free"

Cons: No way on earth they'd fit in the stock 6 X 9 holes in a 2014 Nissan Altima.

2005 Dodge Magnum
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upgraded the speakers in my 2005 Dodge Magnum 1Feb2016. The factory speakers are 6x9's with whizzer cones. I bought a Kicker component set from Crutchfield and they sent me these speaker adapters along with all the instructions, speaker-wire adapters and mounting hardware. Thumbs up Crutchfield! My speakers fit the adapters perfectly and the adapter fits the 6x9 inch opening on the door just fine. There is a small gap at the top of the adapter, hence the speaker is not completely sealed off from the back of the door. No biggie, I do not think that will make much of a difference in the way my system sounds. And it sounds just right!

Pros: Does what it was designed to do.

Cons: Small gap between the adapter and the sheet metal. It does not cover the speaker cut-out 100%.

Written by: Dawn E. from Florida on January 6, 2016

Advised that these rear brackets would fit my 2015 Corolla with some minimal drilling. There was nothing minimal about it. The bracket just barely cleared the speaker spacing. I wound up using the stock bracket with some obvious modification.

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't fit 2015 Corolla as stated. Would have been nice to know prior to completing gutting out rear deck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were recommended for 6 1/2" speakers. Had to drill new holes because the speakers didn't fit. The alignment of the factory screws were off a little.

Pros: Work great for a 5 1/4" speaker

Cons: Alignment of the factory holes were off a little. If you are using a speaker bigger than 5 1/4", you will have to drill your own holes.

Speaker mounting brackets

Written by: Mike from Connecticut on November 1, 2015

1998 Chevrolet Lumina
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets are a perfect solution for mounting smaller speakers in a 6x9 openings such as rear decks. I have a sub box in my trunk which is mounted against the back of my rear seat which leaves limited space for "filler speakers" ... So theses were a perfect fit for 51/4 kickers which I also purchased from Crutchfield!

Pros: Nice fit! Good quality! You can also mount a component speaker in this bracket if needed. The bracket holes for mounting to the car door or rear shelf are oblong which aids in installation.

Cons: Just one piece of advice when mounting the speaker to the bracket, do not over tighten hardware as it will "bend" or start warping the bracket, just snug it up nice that's all that's needed.

I used a jigsaw and made quick work of these to fit my 6 1/2" speakers. I didn't draw a line, I just followed the already made cut marks in the adapter and semi-stayed near that line. I did drill holes and used bolts and nylock nuts to secure the speakers.

Pros: Great for the smaller speakers, quicker install

Cons: Could of had a pressed line where to cut for 6.5" speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It didn't fit my needs, so I didn't use it. I only used it as a template to make an MDF adapter/spacer. It's made of hard plastic. It has slots for a 5 1/4" and grooves to mount a tweeter. It did fit my Infinity Reference X 6 1/2" perfectly, but it looks like you need to drill new mounting holes for it. Overall, very good quality. Definitely worth buying.

Pros: Simple, convenient, good quality, includes hardware, has tweeter mount for components

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just used these mounting brackets to mount some Kicker 6 1/2" speakers in the door of my 2014 Ram 1500. They worked great. I just held them up under the speaker, marked the mounting holes, drilled some pilot holes, then screwed in the screws. 4 screws to mount the speaker and bracket to the factory location. Done. Couldn't be any easier. Beats the old days when I would have to fabricate my own brackets out of sheet metal.

Pros: Easy to install, seem pretty stable after mounting

I wanted to surprise my wife with a new car stereo and new speakers for her Toyota Corolla, I got everything from Crutchfield and when I tried to install the rear end speaker and after disassembled the whole rear end part of the cart I found out that the adapters provided did not fit! I called Crutchfield and they told me that for that car it won't work! that if I wanted to work I would need to drill new holes and everything! it would be useful to know before disassembling anything, I had to assembled everything again with no new speakers, really disappointed specially with the advise, I was expecting something else...

These brackets do exactly what they say they do. I used them for sound ordnance 6.5" components, and mounted the tweeters on the bracket also. Nothing to get too excited about, but they work great, and that's all you can expect. Take your time when mounting your speakers, I used the gaskets that came with the Sound Ordnance woofers to make sure there was no vibrations transmitted. I don't know if that helped, but there is no buzzing, etc.

Pros: Sturdy Easily modified if needed

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product came in quick. They seem to be of decent quality and they fit the spot where my 6x9 should go. The down side. It says universal 5.25 - 6.5. Probably should have used my common sense and figured they wouldnt ft my 6.5s. I thought maybe it had a break away portion for 6.5s but it doesnt. Not too upset since its wasn't expensive. I gave it 3 stars because it is a decent build quality and it came quick. You can modify it to make the 6.5s fit but at that point youre better off building your own.

Pros: decent quality fit my 6x9 opening

Cons: doesnt fit 6.5 like stated without cutting

+5 for ease of use +2 for stiffness +1 for clips ( would be great to have nuts affixed to the base so no clips are needed) I felt the plastic itself could have been stiffer, but I understand you might run into an issue with it becoming brittle. The plastic did bend a bit, producing a deformed plate upon attaching the speaker into it. However, that was not a problem once installed into the door cavity, as that (mostly) flattened it out again.

Had to get these to mount the 6" I bought. Was not a problem except using the guide, I bought 6" for a 6 X 9 hole. No worries, Crutchfield made it right by sending these. If not for these brackets, I would be missing out on the legendary Alpines sound. Maybe the mistake was for the better. Great product, I would highly recommend these if you want to run 6" in a 6 X 9 hole. In my case it worked out well.

Pros: Great fit, minimum drilling required to mount speakers. I like simple, they do job asked asked of them.

Cons: They look cheap. I would not use them if the speakers were going to be on display.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the speakers for a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The speakers fit the plates, the plates do not fit the car.You list 6X9s as original Toyota components for the rear. The Toyota Corolla does not come with 6X9s,the original speakers are oddball size and larger than 6X9.I mounted the speaker components on the plates before disassembling the car to mount the whole thing before realizing the plates were useless in this application.Only one hole will be able to be used and there is no way to make the plates work in this application.I now own a component system that is mounted with one screw and the speakers themselves fall far short of expectations.even amped they can not handle any volume. This is my first bad experience with Crutchfield.Makes me wonder if you guys have ever even been in the back of a Toyota Corolla to get it so wrong.Very disapponting to say the least.I will now have to buy speakers for the front since you do NOT have anything that fits the rear.Wasted money

Pros: The speakers fit the plates

Cons: The plates do NOT fit the car.

Not Even Close!

Written by: Neihn from United States on March 21, 2014

In a 2012 Toyota Corolla these things are not even close to being accurate for the rear deck. They are way to small and will not come close to aligning with the factory holes. The factory holes are so much bigger then these I literally while trying to rig them to work dropped the speaker WITH the bracket attached through the original factory opening. To get them to even begin to work I was able to mount using just 1 of the 4 holes and used the factory bolt. The remaining 3 holes I have zip ties locking them in place. Yes...zip ties!

Pros: None.

Cons: Everything..

Crutchfield response on March 26, 2014 The factory speakers in the 2012 Corolla have elongated mounting tabs that don't match up with normal aftermarket gear. When installing new speakers, you need to mount them with self-tapping screws (or you could drill new screw holes if you prefer). After seeing this review, our tech support team reached out to the customer to offer our help.

I deal with injection molded parts on a daily basis where I work and this product is very well made and will stand up to years of use without issue. Plus, they make the installation of circular speakers in a 6x9 hole a snap. I have made my own before out of G10 material - these work equally as well and I didn't spend hours in fabrication.

I have a 2009 Nissan maxima with premium sound system. I bought a pair of Focal 165 KRX2 that are 6 1/2 inches (I hope this info helps other customers). The hole to mount the speaker is about 5 inches in diameter so you will basically have to customize the adaptor, cutting to the right size, drilling the holes. I bought this think that I will save all that work. I guess I was wrong. The adaptor is 1/4 of an inch thick so don't even think cutting it by hand

Pros: It looks pretty strong. Well made

Cons: Not universal. At least not for my car

i went from a 6x9 to a 6and 1/2 component speaker so i was supplied these brackets. they mounted great to the factory location howeevr i had to screw threw the bracket to mount the woofer speaker. not a big deal . also there is a knock out for the tweeter which i used and you can use the knock out or surface mount it with the particular tweeter i used. i decided id use the knock out and the tweeter hit the old rim where the 6x9 sat. a small bit of trimming solved my issue.

Pros: free with purchase of speakers. they work well

Cons: the knock out for the tweeter is hard to remove and depending on how you mount the tweeter you might have to trim your door panel etc. this is also not a big deal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mount plate had the correct hole for the 5 1/4 speakers I bought. The only thing I had to drill was four holes to attach the Infinity mount plate to this mount plate and four holes to mount the speaker to the Infinity mount plate. I could have done it without the Infinity mount plate, but there was some foam isolation that came with the speakers that I wanted to use. It worked out especially good as I was able to unclip the original speakers from the original mount plate and this mount plate fit into the original mount plate like a glove. It made the installation a snap with no drilling or screws.

Pros: A perfect fit to the original mount plate with good support for the speakers.

Cons: None.

The universal adapter plates i will call them came with screws and clips for my speakers i ordered through crutchfiled. I specifically needed the adapters for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT front door speaker holes that originally held 6x9's and i went to the recommended 5" component woofer from the crutchfield adviser. Upon truing to install the adapter the instructions called for using mounting clips but that was not possible due to the speaker holes having lips that are curled and rounded. The slots on the UNIVERSAL mounting plates did not line up with the factory speaker holes. I had to drill into the doors metal and custom mount. I specifically gave my truck make, model and year but the adapters are incompatible for a direct replacement without modifications.

Pros: they will hold the 5" speaker

Cons: not a direct fit for my Dodge

These brackets do the job! All the holes lined up well enough for me to screw the speaker into the bracket and the bracket into the rear deck of my 06' Accord without any problems or modifications. The stock mesh speaker covers no longer snap all the way back into the rear deck of my accord. But, this may be the tweeter on my Polk db651s speaker sticking up slightly too much and not the bracket itself.

Pros: The bracket itself is made out of a decent quality plastic. Its not cheap and flimsy feeling like some brackets I have used.

Cons: As some reviewers have said, the screws and other hardware that came with these brackets are junk! I used my own.

The adapter didn't fit the factory holes in the rear deck of a 2004 Toyota Corrola. The bolt pattern was too small and I had to drill holes in the rear deck to install the adapter plate. This required crawling in the trunk & lying on my back; at 6'-2" this was a little tight. I was able to make the adapter work but it appeared that someone "dropped the ball" on this one. I didn't have the luxury of time to wait for the correct adapter so I did what anyone else would do; I made it work.

Cheese for 6.5" - NOT so cheese for 6.75". Had to enlarge the hole with my dremel tool. Too bad they don't make a separate adapter for 6.75"

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter was a breeze to use - it only took a few minutes per speaker to mount the speaker to the adapter and then the adapter to the car. If my arm were twisted to make a complaint about the adapter, I would say that if the 4 corner mounting holes were made a little larger (and used an appropriate washer) it would have aided fitment.

2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab front doors: The product fit and got the job done, but the 4-hole pattern for the speaker was oriented in such a way that one of the screws interfered with the sheet metal. The screws would also strip in the plastic, and had to use the metal speed clips (which maybe I was supposed to)

2005 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I went to mount the 6 1/2" round speakers on the rear deck of my 2005 Corolla, I was surprised to find the bracket did not fit as expected. The rear "Universal Bracket" was way off in all dimensions. I had to carefully align and drill, and then add neoprene rubber to seal. Watch out when you get this, even if it's included, you may be surprised, too.

Too Small For 2003 Toyota Corolla

2003 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was the exact size of the cavity for rear speakers on the back deck of the car. Thus, could not install unless I turned 45 degrees. (Wanted to turn 90 degrees, but the car's metal molding would not accomodate.) I was only able to attach two opposing corners. Further, the unit did not match up well with the Blaupunkt 652 speakers I purchased from Crutchfield. Had to drill a hole into the unit to attach three screws to the speakers. The help desk, while very friendly, offered little assistance. They checked, and this unit was the only one recommended for the make, model and year. Surprised me, since this was for a 2003 Toyota Corolla; not a new car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla. These DO NOT come close to fitting. I had the back taken apart. And after all that work, to take apart the rear deck, and the kit falls through the rear speaker hole. The speaker has a large mounting size, that the hole almost a 7"x10". But the Crutchfield is 6"x9". Dont get me wrong the kit was solid, but was just too far off to use. I ended up using the stock speak, and will have to take it all apart again.

2005 Dodge Ram 2500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received these adapters with my order. They were not required. I was replacing stock speakers in a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with speakers that "fit", according to the product selector. These are designed to allow an installer to use smaller speakers in a 6 x 9 opening. I was replacing my 6 x 9s with another set of 6 x 9s. The new speakers required modification to the opening (enlarging) but these didn't seem to have a place in my installation...
