Features

Overview: The SA69 fits many factory 6x9 speaker locations, allowing you to mount select 5-1/4s and 6-1/2s in its round opening. There is also a scored knockout for mounting a separate tweeter. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

6-1/2 Speakers: The brackets have screw holes for the standard 3-hole 6-1/2 pattern. If the 6-1/2 to be installed has a 4-hole pattern, new holes will likely need to be drilled in the bracket.

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s (about one in three) is smaller than the opening in the bracket, making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle might also be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.

Tweeters: The knockouts for mounting separate tweeters have several scored concentric circles, ranging from approximately 5/8" to 1-3/4". By design, the tweeter plug is not easily removed, it will need to be cut out.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 9.32"
  • Width: 6.45"
  • Opening Diameter: 5.1"
  • Bracket Thickness: 0.16"

did not work on my corolla

Written By cuauvaz, Johns Creek, GA on Monday, December 15, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to surprise my wife with a new car stereo and new speakers for her Toyota Corolla, I got everything from Crutchfield and when I tried to install the rear end speaker and after disassembled the whole rear end part of the cart I found out that the adapters provided did not fit! I called Crutchfield and they told me that for that car it won't work! that if I wanted to work I would need to drill new holes and everything! it would be useful to know before disassembling anything, I had to assembled everything again with no new speakers, really disappointed specially with the advise, I was expecting something else...

Pros: none

Cons: did not fit my car and was not a warning in the description when I bought my speakers

Excellent

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets do exactly what they say they do. I used them for sound ordnance 6.5" components, and mounted the tweeters on the bracket also. Nothing to get too excited about, but they work great, and that's all you can expect. Take your time when mounting your speakers, I used the gaskets that came with the Sound Ordnance woofers to make sure there was no vibrations transmitted. I don't know if that helped, but there is no buzzing, etc.

Pros: Sturdy Easily modified if needed

Cons: None

Decent

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wouldn't fit in my Monte Carlo even if I used them, Crutchfield did send them with the speakers I purchased from them free of charge.. BUT, wouldn't align with any of the screw holes already in the door.

Pros: Lucky 6 1/2 kickers fit right in the old mounting spot and even kept stock tweet. XD Sound is great for the price.

Cons: Won't work in a 2006 Monte Carlo SS Special Edition with rear amp. FYI for Crutchfield.

fit but flimsy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are a little thin. while all the bolts lined up just fine, the brackets a pretty thin, and warped when tightening up the screws. Still, worked like they're supposed to. I'd buy them again, but wish they'd thicken the plate a little.

Pros: holes all lined up

Cons: plate's a little thin and warped a little

Decent build but cant use

Written By drock, Portsmouth, VA on Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product came in quick. They seem to be of decent quality and they fit the spot where my 6x9 should go. The down side. It says universal 5.25 - 6.5. Probably should have used my common sense and figured they wouldnt ft my 6.5s. I thought maybe it had a break away portion for 6.5s but it doesnt. Not too upset since its wasn't expensive. I gave it 3 stars because it is a decent build quality and it came quick. You can modify it to make the 6.5s fit but at that point youre better off building your own.

Pros: decent quality fit my 6x9 opening

Cons: doesnt fit 6.5 like stated without cutting

Brackets fit stock 6x9 pods in my 370z perfectly, but needed trimming to accept hertz 6-1/2 speaker. But with a sharp set of cutters it was easily modified to work. Would buy again.

Pros: Direct bolt on to 6x9 opening, easy to work with/ modify to accept Hertz 6-1/2 speaker

Cons: Had to be modified to fit speaker it says it will accept

Good quality, fit like a glove

easy use, a little flimsy

Written By Bruce, San Francisco, CA on Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

+5 for ease of use +2 for stiffness +1 for clips ( would be great to have nuts affixed to the base so no clips are needed)

I felt the plastic itself could have been stiffer, but I understand you might run into an issue with it becoming brittle. The plastic did bend a bit, producing a deformed plate upon attaching the speaker into it. However, that was not a problem once installed into the door cavity, as that (mostly) flattened it out again.

Written By saabsuperaero1, Butler, PA on Monday, April 21, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had to get these to mount the 6" I bought. Was not a problem except using the guide, I bought 6" for a 6 X 9 hole. No worries, Crutchfield made it right by sending these. If not for these brackets, I would be missing out on the legendary Alpines sound. Maybe the mistake was for the better. Great product, I would highly recommend these if you want to run 6" in a 6 X 9 hole. In my case it worked out well.

Pros: Great fit, minimum drilling required to mount speakers. I like simple, they do job asked asked of them.

Cons: They look cheap. I would not use them if the speakers were going to be on display.

Adapter plate

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the speakers for a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The speakers fit the plates, the plates do not fit the car.You list 6X9s as original Toyota components for the rear. The Toyota Corolla does not come with 6X9s,the original speakers are oddball size and larger than 6X9.I mounted the speaker components on the plates before disassembling the car to mount the whole thing before realizing the plates were useless in this application.Only one hole will be able to be used and there is no way to make the plates work in this application.I now own a component system that is mounted with one screw and the speakers themselves fall far short of expectations.even amped they can not handle any volume. This is my first bad experience with Crutchfield.Makes me wonder if you guys have ever even been in the back of a Toyota Corolla to get it so wrong.Very disapponting to say the least.I will now have to buy speakers for the front since you do NOT have anything that fits the rear.Wasted money

Pros: The speakers fit the plates

Cons: The plates do NOT fit the car.

Not Even Close!

Written By Neihn, United States on Friday, March 21, 2014

In a 2012 Toyota Corolla these things are not even close to being accurate for the rear deck. They are way to small and will not come close to aligning with the factory holes. The factory holes are so much bigger then these I literally while trying to rig them to work dropped the speaker WITH the bracket attached through the original factory opening.

To get them to even begin to work I was able to mount using just 1 of the 4 holes and used the factory bolt. The remaining 3 holes I have zip ties locking them in place. Yes...zip ties!

Pros: None.

Cons: Everything..

Crutchfield response on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 The factory speakers in the 2012 Corolla have elongated mounting tabs that don't match up with normal aftermarket gear. When installing new speakers, you need to mount them with self-tapping screws (or you could drill new screw holes if you prefer). After seeing this review, our tech support team reached out to the customer to offer our help.

This bracket matched up to the car panel very well, but didn't match the speaker well at all. I had to put a couple of extra holes in it to make the speaker stable in it.

Pros: Fit the car.

Cons: Didn't fit the speaker.

Fits perfect on my dodge ram's door. Made it so the factory 6x9 could be replaced by a 6-1/2 speaker. Kinda hard to screw the speaker into...drill small holes to help start screws.

Pros: Easy install, well constructed

Cons: Hard to screw into without pilot hole.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I deal with injection molded parts on a daily basis where I work and this product is very well made and will stand up to years of use without issue. Plus, they make the installation of circular speakers in a 6x9 hole a snap. I have made my own before out of G10 material - these work equally as well and I didn't spend hours in fabrication.

Pros: Ease of use Excellent value

Cons: None

I used these adapters that Crutchfield sent me for free to install 6 1/2 speakers into a 6x9 area in the front doors of a 2007 Jeep Compass. They came with different hardware than what shows on the instructions, but between the hardware in this and the hardware that came with the speakers, they were installed with no problem.

Pros: Good fit, did what they were supposed to do and they were FREE

Cons: Could have a hardware issue if none come with the speakers

I have a 2009 Nissan maxima with premium sound system. I bought a pair of Focal 165 KRX2 that are 6 1/2 inches (I hope this info helps other customers). The hole to mount the speaker is about 5 inches in diameter so you will basically have to customize the adaptor, cutting to the right size, drilling the holes. I bought this think that I will save all that work. I guess I was wrong. The adaptor is 1/4 of an inch thick so don't even think cutting it by hand

Pros: It looks pretty strong. Well made

Cons: Not universal. At least not for my car

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i went from a 6x9 to a 6and 1/2 component speaker so i was supplied these brackets. they mounted great to the factory location howeevr i had to screw threw the bracket to mount the woofer speaker. not a big deal . also there is a knock out for the tweeter which i used and you can use the knock out or surface mount it with the particular tweeter i used. i decided id use the knock out and the tweeter hit the old rim where the 6x9 sat. a small bit of trimming solved my issue.

Pros: free with purchase of speakers. they work well

Cons: the knock out for the tweeter is hard to remove and depending on how you mount the tweeter you might have to trim your door panel etc. this is also not a big deal

Speaker Install

Written By satcomranger, Mississippi on Tuesday, December 04, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mount plate had the correct hole for the 5 1/4 speakers I bought. The only thing I had to drill was four holes to attach the Infinity mount plate to this mount plate and four holes to mount the speaker to the Infinity mount plate. I could have done it without the Infinity mount plate, but there was some foam isolation that came with the speakers that I wanted to use. It worked out especially good as I was able to unclip the original speakers from the original mount plate and this mount plate fit into the original mount plate like a glove. It made the installation a snap with no drilling or screws.

Pros: A perfect fit to the original mount plate with good support for the speakers.

Cons: None.

Universal Not really

Written By jorgofthejungl, Brownsburg,In on Thursday, October 18, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The universal adapter plates i will call them came with screws and clips for my speakers i ordered through crutchfiled. I specifically needed the adapters for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT front door speaker holes that originally held 6x9's and i went to the recommended 5" component woofer from the crutchfield adviser. Upon truing to install the adapter the instructions called for using mounting clips but that was not possible due to the speaker holes having lips that are curled and rounded. The slots on the UNIVERSAL mounting plates did not line up with the factory speaker holes. I had to drill into the doors metal and custom mount. I specifically gave my truck make, model and year but the adapters are incompatible for a direct replacement without modifications.

Pros: they will hold the 5" speaker

Cons: not a direct fit for my Dodge

Does the job

Written By Alex, Greensboro, NC on Wednesday, September 05, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets do the job! All the holes lined up well enough for me to screw the speaker into the bracket and the bracket into the rear deck of my 06' Accord without any problems or modifications. The stock mesh speaker covers no longer snap all the way back into the rear deck of my accord. But, this may be the tweeter on my Polk db651s speaker sticking up slightly too much and not the bracket itself.

Pros: The bracket itself is made out of a decent quality plastic. Its not cheap and flimsy feeling like some brackets I have used.

Cons: As some reviewers have said, the screws and other hardware that came with these brackets are junk! I used my own.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The bracket in its own was amazing the perfect fit. The nuts and bolts that came with it were useless. After about 2 weeks i noticed the fell out and trust me i tightened them all the way, but it didnt work at all. To small and why a flat head bolt? shouldve been a philips or something i suggest using your own.

Pros: plate was perfect

Cons: Bolts useless, use your own.

Easy to use and assemble once lined up correctly. Had a little bit of trouble lining up the screw holes when installing in rear deck but I got them in in.

Pros: Easy mod to allow speaker to sit in old spot.

Easy to install speakers to and mount using the factory holes in the doors.

Pros: ease of use no drilling required for installation of speakers or redrilling holes in the doors for mounting to them uses the stock hardware in my case but gives you more hardware incase you do have to modify the location for them.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter was too small for my Toyota Camry...had to rig it to fit and I sure as heck wasn't going to put everything back together so i could drive my car while I waited for a larger adapter. Make sure you get a big enough adapter if you're installing rear speakers in a Camry.

Pros: None

Cons: Too small to fit. Seemed to be cheaply made as well.

Universal speaker brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were great- I had no idea that my door speakers were 6" x 9" until I removed the door panels to install my new speakers. There were very durable and I was confident that they would hold my new speakers securely in the door frame.

Pros: Easy to install- good fit.

Cons: Had to drill out holes in the brackets as the speaker mount holes did not match up. Also, had to cut speaker mountig screws flush as they made contact with metal door frame.

Cons: Didn't fit the car as stated.

These brackets DO NOT fit the rear deck of my 2002 toyota camry. I had to make some serious modifications to get them to work. If you have the same vehicle or you don't like last minute game changers then make sure you do some research to ensure that the "free" brackets are actually of any use to you.

This is a great product for being able to install a different size speaker from the factory speaker...a bit of advise, use a good hole saw and place the adapter firmly on a piece of scrap wood to make the hole if installing a tweeter. Worked great for my Alpine type R components.

These worked great except for one thing... I had to drill my own holes to fit a round 6.5 inch speaker. No big deal it took an extra couple of minutes and we were in business. These made installing the P-65's by Sound Ordnance in the back of my 2003 Buick Century a breeze. A great product. Crutchfield's customer service is the best.

Needed a Trim

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The adapter plates did their job, adapting a pair of 6 1/2" speakers to replace
6 x 9's. They did need to be trimmed a little, however, as the four "corners"
stick out a little beyond the footprint of the 6 x 9's. This may not be an
issue in every car, however. Our installation was in a '97 Saab 900.

Nice Adapter Plate Kit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

these are strong and well crafted adapter plates. it was a shame to have to use a dremel on them. i knew this going in, because i couldn't find any adapter brackets for 6.75" speakers. i just routed out clearence for the supports and the mounting holes. i top mounted the speakers in the adapter plates and attached the speed clips that were supplied with the kits. it was a little work, but made for a nice installation in my son's 2006 pontiac grand prix.

Written By Jesse, Milwaukee, Wi on Sunday, August 23, 2009

They need to make a seperate plate for 6.5's as I had to rotozip the hole to accomodate my Focals. I started this project with minimal timing thinking they'd just go into place....nope. Added a good hour to the install. I had to modify the plates quite a bit to make them work....but now they do.

It wasn't the correct adapter

Written By Sir, Tucson, AZ on Tuesday, June 09, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The adapter didn't fit the factory holes in the rear deck of a 2004 Toyota Corrola. The bolt pattern was too small and I had to drill holes in the rear deck to install the adapter plate. This required crawling in the trunk & lying on my back; at 6'-2" this was a little tight. I was able to make the adapter work but it appeared that someone "dropped the ball" on this one. I didn't have the luxury of time to wait for the correct adapter so I did what anyone else would do; I made it work.

This adapter was a breeze to use - it only took a few minutes per speaker to mount the speaker to the adapter and then the adapter to the car. If my arm were twisted to make a complaint about the adapter, I would say that if the 4 corner mounting holes were made a little larger (and used an appropriate washer) it would have aided fitment.

When I went to mount the 6 1/2" round speakers on the rear deck of my 2005 Corolla, I was surprised to find the bracket did not fit as expected. The rear "Universal Bracket" was way off in all dimensions. I had to carefully align and drill, and then add neoprene rubber to seal. Watch out when you get this, even if it's included, you may be surprised, too.

Too Small For 2003 Toyota Corolla

Written By James, Winston Salem, NC on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was the exact size of the cavity for rear speakers on the back deck of the car. Thus, could not install unless I turned 45 degrees. (Wanted to turn 90 degrees, but the car's metal molding would not accomodate.) I was only able to attach two opposing corners. Further, the unit did not match up well with the Blaupunkt 652 speakers I purchased from Crutchfield. Had to drill a hole into the unit to attach three screws to the speakers.

The help desk, while very friendly, offered little assistance. They checked, and this unit was the only one recommended for the make, model and year. Surprised me, since this was for a 2003 Toyota Corolla; not a new car.
