Important Note: Some 6-1/2" speakers use a larger frame and require a larger cutout. We call these 6-3/4" speakers, and they won't fit in this bracket. This bracket will only work with speakers that require a cutout diameter of 5-1/8" or less.

brackets looked great just had no need to use them, on comment is that the screws that come with them are a little on the short side.

Pros: good quality

Cons: a little on the thick side which prompted me not to use them in my BMW plus my existing hardware on the car worked fine for the mounting.

This is a good product.

2004 BMW 3 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Brackets fit perfectly in the rear deck of 2004 325i, but with the speaker mounted on top of the bracket the factory speaker covers do not fit flush with the rear deck. Included instructions indicated this was the proper way to mount the speaker to the bracket, as did Crutchfield Tech Support. Placing the bracket on top of the speaker did not seem to be an option as the bracket was resting on part of the speaker surround. May have to play around with it some more to see if the factory speaker covers can sit flush.

Pros: Matches factory screw holes, easy to use.

Cons: Factory speaker covers are not flush with rear deck.

Speaker Mounting Brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They fit well. I added a flat steel fender washer for more surface contact to hold the bracket in place. The universal brackets supplied by Alpine with the 6.5" speakers do not work on BMW.

Pros: They work on the weird BMW triangle speaker mount points.

Cons: Not sure if it's a "con" but you can not reuse the BMW factory speaker baffles. The factory speakers sound terrible because the baffles. They don't allow the speakers to produce a lot of bass. Be sure to put sound deadening material on the back of the door panel because new speaker without the baffle will sound great, but there will be some vibrations at high volume.

Great mounting piece!

1999 BMW 328I
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was a great conversion mount from 6.5 to 5 1/4 that my car needed. The slots for the screws were thinner than the ones we had so bought sheet metal screws and washers and just threaded it through the plastic (a little trick we picked up from mounting fans in a computer that require you to do that). Works how it should!

Pros: Simple and easy, multiple screw positions, and it works well :)

Cons: Needed washers because no matter how tight I screwed the adapter in it would wiggle (not a big con, but with speakers I didn't want it to wiggle) New self threading screw were used in order to be able to attach speakers (I don't really care but just a heads up)

This fit my 3 series well. It's a proper fit, although in the rear deck the tabs seem a little thick, but functions well.

Pros: It fits the car well.

Cons: it won't work with what are referred to as 6.75" speakers be aware of this.

Got this set of brackets to mount 6.5" coaxial pioneers into the rear deck of my E46 330 Ci. The holes line up with the speaker deck and the speaker well enough but it only fits properly onto the under side of the speaker. When i place the bracket on the top side for deeper mounting it rubs on the surround.

Pros: Cheap and well made.

Cons: Could have a better fitment.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these in the past for the front door location on my 99 BMW 328i e46 sedan. Bolted up without any problem. It's a decent solution for a very weird factory mounting. These also work for the rear deck speakers, which is what I used this latest order for. The tabs used to locate the bracket to the 3 factory mounting holes are a little tall. Not sure why they molded them this way because the bolts end up hitting the speaker grill because they sit up to high. Can easily be solved by grinding a few mm of plastic away.

Pros: Can be used to retrofit generic (cheaper) speakers in the factory location

Cons: Fitment could be better.

Mounts were fine for front door location although self tapping screws provided were 1/2" too long. Rear parcel shelf mounts needed mods as they left the speakers too high to then allow stock grilles to mount back flush.

Will NOT fit 6.5" speakers

Written by: Michael from Jackson, MS on July 7, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2001 BMW 330i. I ordered these to use with some 6.5" speakers from another online retailer. They will NOT fit a 6.5" speaker. They only fit 5.25" speakers. Even the label on the package states "Front Door 5.25" Speaker Adapter". The physical width of the adapter is 6". The mounting holes of a 6.5" speaker are clearly visible on the outside of this plastic adapter.

Pros: Fit's BMW mounting holes and a 5.25" speaker.

Cons: Only works with 5.25" speakers.

Crutchfield response on July 9, 2014 This is the best prefab bracket available for this car, which is why we offer it. Some 6-1/2" speakers have an oversized frame and won't work with these brackets (such speakers are often marketed as both 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" speakers, but some are a just poor fit). Our Tech Support team is always a good resource for troubleshooting situations like this, and if it doesn't work out, the bracket can be returned for a refund, thanks to our 60-day money back guarantee.

Speakers Made Easy

Written by: Nick from North Dartmouth, MA on June 18, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Makes the installation of aftermarket speakers a breeze. Normally custom adapters have to be fabricated to mount speakers in these vehicles (as they attach to the door cars itself), but these adapters make it super easy.

Pros: Easy to use, comes with necessary hardware.

Cons: May not fit all 6.5".

I ordered these to the understanding that it would fit my 316ti. Not only was it not a direct fit, but it was able to be fabricated in any way shape or form. Bolt pattern, size, and depth all were wrong. Not to bummed though bc I only paid $ for the pair. Still love Crutchfield. Im active duty overseas and their free fast shipping beats this one bad experience.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these in the rear deck of my 2000 BMW 323Ci coupled to MTX TNS65 6.5in speakers in the rear deck (OEM ones fell apart). There weren't pre-drilled holes, so I called Crutchfield. Got an immediate answer. Simply drill into the bracket and put some pan head screws in and you're good to go. The stock grill even sort of fit over the speakers, so no need to use the aftermarket grill.

Pros: Fit, sturdy, easy to use (once I found out you had to drill into them)

Cons: No pre-drilled holes for 6.5in speakers (maybe a small piece of paper that notes this would be good)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm keeping my expectations low for this one and expecting it to break in the near future. I used it to secure Polk DB-651s speakers in my 2003 BMW E46. The bracket does NOT attach to the speaker, and the speakers are NOT attached to the door panel. So, pretty much my speakers are just behind held in there by a piece of plastic pushing down on it. There were no instructions on how to put them on there either. The three bolts only fit in there with barely one full turn before the bracket started bending. The tabs on the brackets are bending down about 1/4" from their original position, and that was just so the speaker wouldn't slide around. With that much tension on the tabs, it's only a matter of time before something breaks and my speakers slide into my door.

Pros: Speakers are mounted.

Cons: No instructions. Plastic.

Great little adaptors. OEM BMW speakers have three offest tabs which won't work with aftermarket speakers. These adaptors are a perfect interface between aftermarket speakers and the OEM door panels.

Pros: Cheap product vs making your own spacers. Different mounting tabs for various aftermarket speakers.

Cons: None for this price. Make sure your aftermarket speakers come with screws that will work with this plastic adaptor plate.

MUST HAVE for e46 owners

Written by: kenner from SC on January 31, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A must for all e46 BMW owners - these brackets worked like a champ in front doors allowing a 6.5 inch speaker with low profile teater to fit with only minor mods of aftermarket screws and additional foam spacers, to kill rattles. These even allowed me to install 6.5 inch, low profiles in back deck, with same mods, however, I had to use the factory grills -- the BMW grills wouldn't allow enough clearance for the tweeter cones -- note that asthetics of back deck application described will not satisfy those who want to keep factory appearance.

It works, but not out of the box

Written by: Bernard from Princeton,NJ on May 3, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You can make this work, but it's not a trivial bolt in. -Pay attention to the picture. It may look like the mounting holes are evenly spaced but they're not; there is a definite orientation. This also affects wiring. -Note the ridges on the mounting holes; they really must go toward the speakers, which means for mine (Polk DB 521's), the Scosche frame gets bent, unless you file down three of them that are unused. If your speakers can mount on the front and stick through without interference, this might not be needed. Mine could not. -The supplied 4 mm screws are 3-4 mm too long for the mounting holes (I have a 2003 325xi); you could use washers to space, I used shorter screws. -Speaker mounting screws supplied were flimsy sheet metal; also replaced these. -No info on which BMW wire is + or -; found on another site. (Left +: Blue w/ white stripe, Right+, Blue w/ red stripe) -Would have been good if they supplied terminals to plug into the existing connector; again made some. Alternative is to solder your speakers in directly (bad idea for future maintenance) or cobble up another connector (get insulated pairs) Overall the need is for proper parts and an instruction sheet. A Scosche instruction sheet would have saved me a lot of time. Generic one from Crutchfield isn't too useful. Two other hints: if your car has the foam gasket around the speaker, reuse it. Also, be smart to have a few of the door male plastic clips; several of mine were pre-broken.

Features

Overview: The SABW525 is compatible with many 1999-2006 3 Series BMWs, designed to allow easy replacement of the factory speakers with select aftermarket 5-1/4 and 6-1/2 speakers. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s is smaller than the opening in the bracket, possibly making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle will likely be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.
