Scosche's multipurpose SAC-656 brackets will allow you to install select 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speakers in the factory speaker openings of select 1980-up vehicles. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to confirm that these adapters are compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 60 days.

Important Note: Some 6-1/2" speakers use a larger frame and require a larger cutout. We call these 6-3/4" speakers, and they won't fit in this bracket. This bracket will only work with speakers that require a cutout diameter of 5-1/8" or less.

Bracket did not align to the front mounting box. Some modifications had to b made and extra screws to ensure a good sealed box

Pros: It worked, but with modifications made

Cons: Bracket doesn't align with existing screw holes, so extra screw holes are required around a Jeep wrangler front speaker box

For a "universal kit", this product performed like a "custom kit" for me. Used these brackets to mount four new Pioneer speakers in a 1998 Dodge Durango. Install was quick and easy.

Pros: Easy to use bracket kit. Worked perfect for me.

Cons:

2013 Hyundai Veloster
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These adapters were recommended to install Kicker 40CS654's as 2013 Hyundai Veloster rear seat left and right speakers. No adapter was needed for the left-hand speaker, and the adapters were too small to fit the cutout on the right-hand side (third door) - too small even if I had drilled the door. I ended up sandwiching the inner door skin between both the adapters (fortunately I didn't need one on the left-hand side) and using the grill supplied with the Kicker to stabilize the assembly. Screws furnished with the adapters were worthlessly small and puny (6-32 x too short) so a couple trips to the hardware store were necessary to get the appropriate hardware. All said and done the installation looks and sounds great, but these adapters are definitely NOT appropriate for this application.

Pros: uhhh...

Cons: wrong size, worthless hardware

Make it easy on yourself.

2016 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought These adapters for rear door speakers in a 2016 Subaru Forester. I had an extra pair of Polk db5.25's sitting around and decided to install them in the new car. One odd thing is that Subaru installs 5.25 speakers in what appears to be 6.5" holes. No biggie, like I said, I already had these and bought the adapters. These adapters could have not fit the factory hole any better. I didn't have to drill ANY new holes! For the adapter OR the speakers. Made the install quick and easy.

Pros: No drilling holes of any kind in the 2016 Forester. Plenty of existing hole patterns for other cars as well. Made quick easy work out what can be a nightmare job.

Cons: None.

Useless for 1999 Camry

Written by: corpuszero from California on January 17, 2016

1999 Toyota Camry LE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't really needed these for my 1999 Toyota Camry. It doubled the amount of work needed to install the speakers. Plastic ring is barely bigger than door speaker openings. I ended up drilling new holes and using speed clips to mount my new speakers.

Pros:

Cons: The head on the "elevator bolts" to mount the speaker to the ring is really small and could slip out of mounting holes.

Just not a good quality fit

Written by: Guy M from North Carolina on January 17, 2016

2001 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation notes indicated I may have to grind away some plastic at the end of the 3 tabs. For my Dodge Dakota, I did and they "fit somewhat". However, the overall assembly of the original enclosure ring, adaptor, speaker and grill looked kludgey at best and did not work with the door panel. So I punted using these adaptors. Instead I routed a rabbit in the original speaker enclosures and chopped off and reused the metal body ring of the original speakers to sandwich in the new speakers. I used double sided tape to reattach the original cloth grill rings, and the resulting assemblies fit perfectly.

Pros: Good for quick speaker retrofit

Cons: Not good for seamless speaker replacement

Not sure why all the bad reviews. With a little imagination and a drill, it will work pretty much with anything. Worked great in the roll bar on my jeep JK. Just had to drill one extra hole.

Pros: Does what it is designed for. Universal mount.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought Polk 6.5" Speakers. The speaker factory mounting bracket did not line up with this mounting bracket. I spent along time trying to figure everything out on the rear doors. Eventually I went ahead and broke off some tabs from the factory truck bracket and got this bracket to work together but had to use both brackets. This is the only way I could get the speakers installed. I do not know if this is a common or not but it was the only way I could see to get it to work. Had to do a lot of modifying but did get this to work on my truck.

Pros: Got it done...

Cons: Had to do a lot of modifying. Time consuming. Would have been a lot easier if the bracket would have match up with everything

2013 Jeep JK Soundbar

Written by: BrianW from Georgia on January 5, 2016

2013 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to install Kicker CS65's. Had to drill one additional hole in each adapter as they did not line up with the factory soundbar clip. The "cinch screws" flange is only a hair larger than the hole and pulled into the adapter upon tightening, which makes me concerned that they may pull thru on a hard bump and let the speaker fall. Had to use some weatherstripping between the adapter and soundbar to prevent rattling from the two plastics(adapter was flat, soundbar not so much). I used the factory jeep grill covers with no problem.

Pros: Does the job, stout plastic, all holes lined up except for one(easy fix)

Cons: Would of liked to have more robust cinch screws

Adapter doesn't fit rear Chevy Traverse speaker holes without modification. Trying all different hole patterns supplied, the adapter is not a good fit. 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked as designed, the bracket flexes when secured which causes vibration on the low end, I added an RVT silicone gasket and it solved the problem. Also the provided bolt/nut/washer that's included did not work as designed, I secured the adapter to the speaker with 4 of the included self tapping screws. TIP: Pre fit everything and remove all the extra mounting tabs prior to securing to the speaker. Cant really complain about free stuff though.

Pros: Cost, or lack there of.

Cons: suggested speaker mounting hardware not sufficient.

Excellent bracket for OEM speaker replacement

Written by: LB Cruiser from Maryland on December 2, 2015

2009 Chevrolet Colorado
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For 2009 Chevy Colorado Extended Cab. The bracket came with hardware. It uses a very small screw (flush screw) to secure the speaker to the bracket. I didn't have to cut the metal on the door. Yes, the metal did extended into the speaker area of the bracket but not far enough to interfere with the speaker so I didn't trim it as suggested in the installation instructions. I used the factory nutplate to start in the installation of the bracket with speaker installed. I centered the speaker in the factory cutout and tightened the first screw in the factory nutplate. Once that was tight, I used two 10 X 3/4 self tapping screws and secured the bracket. Once I tightened the last bracket screw. the speaker popped out due to the flimsy thin flush screw. So I used the self tapping screw, 2 each, and secured the speaker to either the plastic bracket only or the plastic bracket and sheet metal of the door. Speaker held on tight and the previously 4 installed flush screws were left in there since they didn't bother the speaker. I didn't use the flush screws on the other 3 speakers. First speaker installation is always a trial and error installation. Once you figure it out, the rest go smooth.

Pros: Definitely helped on installing after market speakers.

Cons: The only con is the thin flimsy flush screws used to secure the speaker to this bracket.

Could be Better

2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield sent me two sets of these to install my Kicker 6-1/2s in my 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. They could definitely be better. In the rear soundbar, you have to either keep rotating the brackets until they fit or do some trimming to either the brackets and/or your vehicle. Also, the screws included to hold the brackets to the speakers were a bit short, 2-3 threads more screw would have been perfect and still not interfered with the installation.

Pros: They do attach your speakers to the mounts.

Cons: Oddly shaped for installing into the mounts. Attachment screws to attach brackets to speakers could be longer.

These worked great. But as with many things in, not enough fasteners to mount bracket to speaker (six screws supplied, eight needed.) When I called Tech to remedy problem, the young man tried to convinceme each speaker only needed three. After much discussion, i convinced him he was incorrect. He's sending me another set of brackets that will contain the screws I need to finish install.

Pros: Worked great when supplied with correct number of fasteners.

Cons: Note to Crutchfield - add some extra fasteners. Cheaper in long run.

This bracket was very helpful to make the speaker installation fast and easy. My installation required the long tabs cut off and I also trimmed the other excess ears. After re-installing the door panel on the first door I knew what to do and had the speaker/bracket assembly ready to go right in and completed the install in half the time on the second speaker. Crutchfield is great to provide both brackets and wiring harness adaptors with their products and makes the installs much more enjoyable.

Needed Slight Modification

Written by: Stang from OK on October 30, 2015

2001 Dodge Durango
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The brackets worked fine for the most part, I did have to modify the long tab and cut a quarter inch off so it would fit. I ended up shortening the other two about 1/8 of an inch so it fit smoother. They were a little too thick for the tabs to snap back in. Once I figured out the process for one door, I repeated for each door and the process was quick. Remember to take the rubber ring off the old speakers and apply it to the back of the adapter to reduce rattle before you put it back into the door spacer.

Pros: After modification fit fairly well.

Cons: Needed modification and a bit thicker than stock speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They do what they are supposed to do and are included free with your speaker purchase. With that said, the plastic has a lot of flex to it and you are not going to get a tight seal. You can see the whole bracket bow inward a bit as you torque down the speaker. I use Dynamat on both sides to act as a gasket and element any unwanted sound from the plastic vibrating against the cars metal. It seems to work. I'm sure there are better brackets available but not for $0.

Pros: Free with speakers Works as described

Cons: Cheap build quality = flex and poor seal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Attaching these brackets to the speakers wasn't too difficult, however, when it came time to mount up to my 08' Wrangler, it hit a snag. There was simply no way possible to alight 3 holes to the factory mounts in any configuration without intervention. Fortunately, only one of the holes on the long tab needed to be expanded to allow it to bolt up. Quick and easy mod with the cordless drill had me up and running moments later, but it was annoying that it wasn't just a simple conversion.

Pros: In theory, worked ok

Cons: Having to modify the bracket to make it work.

Used these to put 5-1/4" speakers into a 6-1/2" hole for my rear speakers in my '99 Dodge Durango. They worked pretty well, however, it did require some modification. I used the factory spacer, and the holes on the bracket didn't quite line up, and one of the tabs on the bracket is too long. I had to widen the holes slightly with a drill, and trim the over sized tab to fit into my factory spacer. I was able to use my factory screws and as a result have a pretty clean install.

Shape of bracket seemed as though it was intended to match shape and size of factory speaker. 2 of 3 outside tabs matched perfectly to speaker. 3rd tab was slightly out of line and hole didn't come close. Mounting hole in that tab should be a long groove like in stock speakers to allow flexibility of where the screw will go. I had to drill a hole but if design was a little better, would not have been needed.

Pros: Strong durable material

Cons: Fitment

2000 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are junk. They had did not have mounting holes to match the three-bolt layout of my Camry. This is easily overcome however. The bigger problem is that they are incredible flimsy. In order for a speaker to work well, it has to be held rigidly so that the speaker cone moves, moving air/creating sound. These flimsy brackets allow the speaker frame to vibrate, so that it is not able to impart sufficient motion to the speaker cone. Also they make it very difficult to achieve any degree of air tightness. Both factors, but especially the flimsiness, have a large effect on bass response. I was able to mount my speakers directly to the door without using the bracket, and bass response improved considerably.

Pros: Free

Cons: Flimsy, leaky, lots of hole patterns but none fit.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speaker has a bunch of holes for universal fit and had to try a couple of ways and fiddle around to get the right combination. Ended up the only way to get the right fit was using the outer slotted holes in the speaker and the outer slotted holes in the bracket, making it a bit fiddly to assemble nicely. Once together that way, worked perfectly. If door mounting, you'll probably have way more trouble getting the door panels off than anything else (RTFM, baby! And buy some cheap Harbor Freight trim panel tools).

door side of the mounting screws are rivet like things that sink into the plastic, so one could over tighten and pull them through, especially if mounting in a slot. I can see why they do this, so they won't interfere with flush. Just snug them until the rivet pulls flush, then get a drop of locktite or fingernail polish on the threads on the speaker grill side, being careful not to get it on the speaker... just a drop, let it wick into the threads.

Pros: Works well Crutchfield install parts usually make installation as easy as it can be, not always easy, but as easy as it can be.

Cons: not real easy assembly in my application, YMMV. If you can't get it, probably should have a pro installer do your work, so it's still 5 stars.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 6.5" speakers for the rear speaker location in my 2007 Eclipse because when I went to put 6.75" speakers into my shopping cart, I was told they didn't fit my car. When I took the rear speakers out of the car, they were 6.75", and the 6.5" speakers would not fit because the bolt pattern on the 6.5" speaker was too small . I then called Crutchfield, and told the CSR I needed an adapter to put a 6.5" speaker into a hole a 6.75" speaker came out of. I was told these adapters would do the trick. However when I went to install the 6.5" speakers with the adapter on them into the 6.75" hole, I could only mount them with two screws rather than 4. So, these adapters sorta work but are much less than an ideal solution since you can only use two screws to mount the speakers.

Pros: Allows you to mount the speaker somewhat

Cons: Doesn't provide a very good solution to mounting a 6.5" Speaker in a 6.75" hole.

'Mounting bracket' is a huge misnomer. None of the holes aligned with any of the holes in the speaker frame itself. The holes for the door frame aligned, but the bracket needed substantial trimming with my Dremel in order for it to be mounted in my truck and drilling of all new holes for the speaker to be mounted to it.

Pros: A starting piece for use in mounting a 6.5" speaker in a 6.75" hole.

Cons: If you don't have a Dremel and a drill and some skill in using both, the so-called bracket is worthless.

The bracket was used to attach 6.5" Kickers to the roll bar of a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. The speaker install - wiring an all - was simple. I had the hardest time with the bracket. The bracket seemed flimsy in comparison to the hefty speakers. The screens provided to attach the speakers were small and short. This made them difficult to attach--and I have small hands. Lastly, event though the install was tight the the bracket tended to vibrate and buzz - I alleviated this by separating the bracket from the roll bar with a rubber washer.

Pros: Many holes for aligning

Cons: Fit - had to drill additional hole in roll bar Material - flimsy Hardware - Barely fit speakers

The mounting bracket was adequate but had to be trimmed on all tabs and predrilled.

Pros: Worked adequately with speakers Infinity PR5200is and PR6500cs with some modification.

Cons: Thicker than original mounting hardware so this could affect grill/cover clearance. In the particular vehicle I installed them the aftermarket grills would not fit as they were to thick to allow for proper door panel reinstallation and the old speaker grills were not re-attachable, so you may need to come up with an alternative thin grill/cover. Also I had to predrill these adaptors to fit the new speakers.

The Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets Crutchfield sent, in my opinion, didn't work and actually made installing the Kenwood KFC-G1620 speakers in my 2004 Envoy more difficult than it should have been and didn't use them for the front speakers. I carefully pried off the plastic support from the factory speakers, enlarged the speaker mounting holes so they would line up with factory mounting adapters holes and used the factory mounts in place of the Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets. Also the two of the four Metra 72-4568 Speaker Wiring Harness ends weren't crimped properly and I ended up cutting off the solderless tips and soldering the wires directly to the speakers. Also, there was no information about what to do with the front factory tweeter and speaker harness. I disconnected and cut the factory harness to the front the speakers (including the tweeter?), and left in in place in case I need it in the future. Please be aware that I have been an ASE Mater Technician since 1978, was a GM Master Technician for 27 years before leaving the "cars wars" to be become a certified Automotive Technology instructor, am very particular about how I make car repairs, and it took my extensive skills and too many specialty tools to get these speakers in the way that, in my opinion, replicated the factor installation.

I received these with my speaker purchase, so I guess "beggers can't be choosers"...lol. They worked out pretty well once I go the hang of attaching them to the speaker itself. The cinch screws could used to be about 1-2mm longer to aid in assembly and the head about the same size wider. They matched up perfectly with the door mounting points.

Pros: - Good interface with the door. - Matching slots to choose from to match up with the speakers!

Cons: - Cinch screws a tad too short, but didn't preclude assembly.

Good concept if they fit right. I have a 2015 Wrangler and the fit the sound bar but not the speakers in the dash.

Pros: Good fit for sound bar.

Cons: Does not work for dash speakers.

not a good fit

Written by: pg from NJ on February 7, 2015

took me an hour to finnany figure out how to mount the speaker on because the speaker was overlapping the holes that needed to be used for the door

Pros: they eventually worked

Cons: not a good fit. you have to make it work by messing around with it too much.

It was free with my order, seems to be sturdy enough. Good thing, because it didn't fit. Well at least until I did some drilling and then it barely fit. It was free so, whatever. If I had paid for it. it stunk, because it didn't fit without modification.

Pros: free

Cons: Doesn't fit without making it fit.

Did not even attempt to use. So much easier to reuse factory brackets after i pried the old speakers off them. Put these up to the old brackets and they are no where near the same size of shape.

Pros: Free

Cons: Useless in a 2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab.

I got thisohnt with my purchase of speakers from here and I thought that they'd fit my car, 2001Camry, but I was wrong. I put the mount up to the door and nothing lined up, and I wasn't about to drill more homes in my door. I ended up modifying my old mount to get my speakers to fit properly.

Pros: Seemed like a good quality mount, flexible, almost universal.

Great product to make installation easier. And when they are included with your speaker purchase what do you have to complain about. Thanks Crutchfield for making it as easy as possible as usual.

Cons: None really. Had to break the tabs off for them to fit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These adapters were supplied to fit into my 2002 Avalanche rear speakers. The instructions were not for my car and I was about to return them after trying all different angles to get the holes to line up. After about 30 minutes of frustration and fighting with the water barrier and its sticky glue, I was able to figure out I took out too much and the original adapter had to stay in place for the after market adapter to fit onto the original adapter. After that fiasco on the right door the left door was a snap!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two sets of Rockford Fosgate Prime R165-S to replace the factory speakers in my 01 Dodge Durango, Crutchfield sent me two sets of brackets for both the front and rear doors, only complaint i have with these brackets is the didn't exactly fit the new speakers or the doors all that well, I had to modify them all to make them work but in the end after some tweaking it did work out fine and the speakers work great, after the first door I learned the tricks and the rest went fairly quickly.

Pros: awesome that Crutchfield sends these extra handy things for free !! love it.

Cons: maybe i'm just a tard but i brackets needed some modifications befoe they would fit anything.

Wrong plate for this application. The Scosche kit can be used as a baseplate, but you need to have a spacer adapter to properly fit in the back door of the Jetta. Had to go to a local audio store and they knew exactly what I needed.

Pros: Could be used as a baseplate against the frame, I guess.

Cons: Absolutely the wrong adapter kit for this application.
