Scosche SAC-656 brackets

These Scosche SAC-656 brackets allow you to install select 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speakers into the speaker openings located in your 1980-up vehicle. These multi-purpose brackets fit into most vehicles, but you may have to make slight modifications in some vehicles, like trimming plastic or drilling new screw holes. These brackets are priced per pair. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if these adapters are compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 60 days.

Important Note: Some 6-1/2" speakers use a larger frame and require a larger cutout. We call these 6-3/4" speakers, and they won't fit in this bracket. This bracket will only work with speakers that require a cutout diameter of 5-1/8" or less.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Overview: The SAC656 is compatible with a wide range of vehicles, designed to allow easy replacement of the factory speakers with select aftermarket 5-1/4 and 6-1/2 speakers. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s is smaller than the opening in the bracket, possibly making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle might also be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.

Dimensions:

  • Outer Diameter: 6.64"
  • Inner Diameter: 5.1"
  • Height: 0.158"

Helpful not perfect

Written By Jeff, Buffalo, NY on Monday, April 21, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not really all that helpful for GM factory replacements that use the 1 hold-down screw factory speaker. I guess it can be useful as a insulator to keep the speakers from actually touching the steel door sheet metal.
Pros:
Multi purpose
Cons:
Not perfect the small screws and nuts are barely long enough.

Didn't end up needing this?

Written By DavidC, Provo, UT on Sunday, April 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this with some speakers. Didn't end up using them because the speakers fit the stock mounting holes perfectly.
Pros:
Look like they have many holes for various setups
Cons:
The mounting bolts are tiny, and are non-locking. I don't have any firsthand experience to back this up, but I'm assuming something that was constantly vibrating (i.e. a speaker mounted in a vehicle) would eventually come loose, which would be lame.

Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Brackets were a little big for the speaker mounts in my truck (which I decided to keep instead of mounting directly in the door panel), so they required some slight modification to the tabs. Once modified, they worked great.

Good, but needs larger hardware kit and loctite

Written By Jeff, Las Vegas, NV on Thursday, March 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needs a larger hardware kit. The bolt/nut combo mounting kit for the speaker/bracket mating are really small and the bolt is a compression fit. Once put together, it looks like it will hold but loctite should be included just in case for vibration resistance security. The bracket has break-away tabs for mounting options, hope the tabs dont give way while bouncing around in my Jeep. Used it to mount (4) Kicker 40CS654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers which the bracket did not line up very well to Jeep factory holes.
Pros:
It works
Cons:
Small hardware kit, compression fit bolts, no loctite included, break away tabs may not hold on long if 4 wheeling

While the adapter fit in the hold and my speaker fit into it, the various openings on the bracket didn't line up with enough points on the door for stability. I had to drill a couple holes in the door which wasn't something I had expected or wanted to do.
Pros:
Fit the speaker okay.
Cons:
Didn't fit the car door at all.

Written By Dee, Richmond, VA on Sunday, March 09, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are great all around brackets for OEM fitment. They sent them with my Kicker speakers for the dash and roll bar on my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Theyre nice because you have a couple different options for different speakers so all you have to is trim the plastic tabs.
Pros:
Straight forward install, easy, fast fitment
Cons:
They plastic could be a little better quality but being that Crutchfield gives them to you for free you cant really complain.

For a very specific application, but Crutchfield supplies for others

Written By Chris, Harrisburg, PA on Thursday, March 06, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets were provided to me for a speaker installation in a 2010 Subaru Legacy. The Legacy has slightly oversized holes and a standard 6.5" speaker needs just a little smaller of a diameter to fit. That said, this bracket is not the right answer. It had to be extensively modified to get it to work right. I probably could have drilled new mounting holes, but that would have been a really sloppy install when there were three perfectly good (grommeted) holes which were just a fraction of an inch away from the existing tabs in the bracket. Crutchfield should really look into alternatives, rather than specifying these brackets which are specific to certain Chrysler vehicles.
Pros:
Easily trimmed/drilled.
Cons:
Vehicle-specific part. Should not be recommended/supplied as a one-size-fits all solution.

Not very useful for an '05 GMC Envoy XUV

Written By GW, Dayton, OH on Tuesday, March 04, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For a bracket with that many holes and options there weren't any that lined-up properly on my '05 GMC Envoy XUV. I used them in the rear and could only get 3 holes to line-up for mounting the speakers to the bracket and the 4 holes to mount to the door panel were too long and I had to angle the screws in. Didn't even bother in the front and just drilled a couple new holes in the plastic door speaker panel and mounted the speakers directly. In hindsight I'd have done the same in the rear and skipped the brackets entirely.
Pros:
Lots of mounting holes you'd think would work for just about anything. Came free with the order
Cons:
Pretty-much useless for my aplication.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speaker fits the bracket fine, not with any supplied hardware, but with a quick trip a hardware store they will fit. As far as mounting to the factory opening in my 2011 Jeep Liberty, not even close. Lots of trimming, sanding, and filing are needed. If your product(even a free one) has as many 1 star ratings as it does 5 star ratings, I would reevaluate carrying this product at all!!!
Pros:
speaker fits bracket/adapter
Cons:
bracket/adapter does not fit factory opening, unusable hardware(nuts/bolts/screws)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

well, where to begin.... I was really looking forward to using these brackets. hoping that they would make my install 100% easier.....that was not the case. it took me approximately 90 minutes to figure out how to use them. the instructions didn't tell me much. after realizing that my new speakers did not match up the new mounting brackets, I had to re-engineer the installation process. after 4 hours of fighting to install my speakers, I finished. the brackets matched perfectly to my truck opening, but not the new speaker. it was very disappointing.
Pros:
help fit new speaker in factory opening
Cons:
speakers were too big for bracket speaker mounting holes did not match up to bracket holes

Written By Perk, Alamogordo, NM on Thursday, February 06, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these because of lack of options. Definitely a "universal" item. Was not specific for my application.
Pros:
They work... but you have to play with them for a while to figure out which holes to use for the speakers and which to use to mount to car.
Cons:
Cheap Plastic. No felt or rubber to limit vibration. I have concerns with how I had to mount the speakers to this adaptor ring. Feel the little bolt heads are going to pull through the mounting holes. Had to break several tabs off that were in the way for my application.

Okay brackets

Written By SuperDave, Chula Vista, CA on Monday, January 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My expectation was that these brackets would allow the 6 1/2" speakers to fit perfectly into the factory door opening but they fell a bit short. The plastic brackets are thick and did not quite slide in. The holes did not line up with the factory speed clips and needed to be drilled. And finally, after breaking off the unused tabs, they were just plain ugly. After getting the brackets to fit the doors, the speakers did fit into the brackets.
Pros:
Included free with the order.
Cons:
Ugly; did not fit factory openings right out of the box.

a true universal adapter

Written By Rich, Northeast OH on Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Considering the multitudes of vehicle and speaker configurations, it is a daunting task to create a universal adapter that meets a majority of the needs. Scosche succeeded with their SAC-656 adapter. It took a bit of studying to determine which set of holes matched the vehicle, which matched the replacement speakers. Select the proper holes, trim off unnecessary tabs, and all is good. Surely better that attempting to fit a system together without appropriate adapters, better still that Crutchfield includes them at no cost when purchasing speakers.
Pros:
so many choices, sure to find the appropriate adaptation
Cons:
so many choices . . .

Speakers for well in the brackets
Cons:
Only 2 of the 3 holes matched up to the door

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these speaker brackets to install some Alpine components in my 13' Scion XB. Before they rattled like crazy and were hellish to install, but these brackets made the whole process much more simple, secure and overall pleasant. No more rattling from my doors. Excellent product.
Pros:
-Fixed door rattling -Simple to install -Seem sturdy
Cons:
-Lots of little pieces to lose, not really a con but something to be wary of

I ordered these Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets for my front and back doors in a 2008 Jeep Liberty and they worked perfectly. There was a warning I might have to alter the bracket some in the back door, but just wasnt the case. These were a perfect fit and I am very happy with my decision
Pros:
Affordable, easy install
Cons:
none

One Bracket For Everything?

Written By GLJ, Texas on Thursday, December 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The instruction sheet showing to bolt the adapter to the new speaker then to the vehicle was not possible. The three hole larger bolt circle to the vehicle was not possible. The only way to make it fit to the 2002 Chevy was to break off all the tabs and find the closest holes and angle in the screws. I thought that Crutchfield actually tried all of these adapters, oh well, it took an hour to get it figured out, I almost gave up and drilled new holes... glad they were free.

Not a perfect fit

Written By Mike, Columbus, GA on Thursday, December 12, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets didn't mate up to the factory mounting points on a 95 Corolla rear deck. I was lucky to get 2 of the 4 mounting holes to line up. I appreciate Crutchfield throwing them in at no cost, but I would have been ticked if I had payed for these brackets.
Pros:
they somewhat worked and they were free
Cons:
not all of the mounting holes matched up

Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Did not fit the sound ordinance P-65 speakers that these adaptor rings shipped with. The speakers mounting holes would not match up with any of the holes in the mounting rings. The rings had an inner and outer ring of holes but the holes in speakers did not match up with either. But they were free, so I shouldn't complain too much.
Pros:
Seemed to be well made
Cons:
Did NOT fit the Sound Ordinance P-65 speakers that I bought.

Lots of work to make it work

Written By Victor, Richmond CA on Wednesday, December 04, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2000 Chevy Astro and I had to do a lot of work to make it fit. I had to break off all the tabs and do some filing at the other edges to make it fit. This took a lot of time. 10 to 15 minutes mainly because there was a lot of back and forth from my car to my work bench. I was not pleased with the work I had to do. The only positive is that the adapter is thick and makes a solid mount for the speaker.
Pros:
Adapter is thick and stable once installed.
Cons:
Too much time to make it fit.

A speaker mount that won't box you in..

Written By Jim W., Mesa, AZ on Sunday, November 24, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this kit to mount a pair of Sound Ordinance P-52 5 /1/4 speakers in the doors of my 95 Pontiac Firebird Formula. I used these adaptors in combination with the OEM mounting location hardware successfully. In my application the best results came from cutting the tabs off and using just the circular portion of the adaptor that remained as a mounting surface to adapt a 5/14 speaker to a 6" hole. The included instructions wanted me to gut everything but that wasn't necessary. If there's a failing with this product it's the instructions as they aren't complete enough to allow you to get full benefit out of the many ways you could use the product. Don't be afraid to cut off those mounting tabs/ears if you need to either! They're meant to be snapped off if you need to! This adaptor is better than many of the universal adapters out there and gives you more mounting options. I've never used one that let me use all the factory and speaker mounting holes before but this one does. That says something.
Pros:
Works as advertised just don't rely on the included instructions for your only installation solution. The product is flexible enough to be useful in more than just what you get in the vehicle specific instructions Crutchfield sends.
Cons:
None with the product, just the instruction sheet that was not complete enough to be of use to me.

Works in 2013 Nissan Rogue SV

Written By Gene, Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday, November 20, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit helped me mount a pair of 6.5" Pioneer 4-way's into the back doors of a 2013 Nissan Rogue SV w/o the Bose system. The three tabs sticking out fit 'with some help' into the factory mounting holes. Overall, they're ok quality, but they help get the job done.
Pros:
Enabled speakers to be mounted in rear doors w/o any drilling
Cons:
Included nuts and bolts were not the best size

Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Written By DGL, Milford, MA on Tuesday, November 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This part is just a plastic spacer, so no big drama. It was a little tough deciding how to line it up between the speaker and the original mounting bracket and the instructions are a bit vague since it's a multipurpose part. You actually don't need to attach the spacer to the speaker, just line it all up and put in the main speaker screws.
Pros:
Provides the needed thickness to accommodate the mounting screws.
Cons:
Vague installation instructions.
