Scosche SAC-656 brackets

These Scosche SAC-656 brackets allow you to install select 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speakers into the speaker openings located in your 1980-up vehicle. These multi-purpose brackets fit into most vehicles, but you may have to make slight modifications in some vehicles, like trimming plastic or drilling new screw holes. These brackets are priced per pair. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if these adapters are compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 60 days.

Important Note: Some 6-1/2" speakers use a larger frame and require a larger cutout. We call these 6-3/4" speakers, and they won't fit in this bracket. This bracket will only work with speakers that require a cutout diameter of 5-1/8" or less.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Overview: The SAC656 is compatible with a wide range of vehicles, designed to allow easy replacement of the factory speakers with select aftermarket 5-1/4 and 6-1/2 speakers. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s is smaller than the opening in the bracket, possibly making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle might also be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.

Dimensions:

  • Outer Diameter: 6.64"
  • Inner Diameter: 5.1"
  • Height: 0.158"

Probably good, but not for this application

Written By Daxx MC, Kansas on Friday, July 18, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were supplied with some 6 1/2" Polk speakers for installation in a 2002 Nissan Frontier. While the bracket fit the speakers okay, and would have mounted to the door with minimal modification, it was too thin. The factory Nissan speaker is molded plastic and the edge (surround) is about 1 1/4" out from the metal of the door, so the edge of the speaker meets a foam gasket on the door panel sealing off the back wave. These brackets would have left the speaker too far back and unsealed. Since I was replacing blown factory speakers, I just cut the basket and magnet out of the plastic frame, and mounted the new speakers to what was left. This fit's perfectly behind the door panel, and brings the speakers out to meet the factory grille and gasket.
Pros:
Looks like they'd work, in some applications...
Cons:
...but not for the 2002 Nissan Frontier front doors though.

This mounting bracket needs a revision

Written By ScottieC., Orange County, CA on Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After installing the bracket in the door and discovering I could not mount the speaker in the bracket later I started over. Then after an hour of trying to make this bracket fit I broke down and called Crutchfield. The technician was great, pulled up the schematic, tried every possible orientation to make it fit, but in the end it became a drill it and make it work arrangement.
Pros:
Crutchfield service is awesome. The technician even complimented me on my ability to describe the orientation of the bracket.
Cons:
Bracket does not fit a 2004 suburban properly.

They Do not Fit Kia Optima

Written By DelawareDave, Milton, DE on Sunday, July 13, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were sent to me as freebies for a replacement speaker order. They do not fit the kia optima at all. I could only get one hole to line up with the factory door mount. Didn't work on Front or back.
Pros:
it was free
Cons:
Doesn't fit
Crutchfield response on Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Crutchfield Tech Support reached out to the customer. We confirmed that the brackets are the correct adapters for this vehicle. When replacing the Optima's factory speakers, you need to drill new screw holes in order to mount the new speaker and bracket.

2001-2006 Hyundai Elantra Doesn't Fit

Written By L, New Hampshire on Wednesday, June 04, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave it 3 stars because it looks sturdy and the plastic is thick. Took away one start because I don't like how the screws mount to the speakers. I took away another star because it is NOT compatible with my 2005 Hyundai Elantra even though the crutchfield website says it fits. Just want to warn people to look at the area where the speaker will be mounted and make sure it looks like it might fit.
Pros:
Sturdy construction
Cons:
Doesn't fit in my car

Slightly disappointing with 6 1/2" speakers

Written By David M, Harwich, MA on Thursday, May 22, 2014

When mounting a 6 1/2" speaker, you cannot use the inner holes of the bracket, as the speaker rim will block the hole in which to mount the bracket to the door. The clips provided are not long enough to reach the far outer tabs with holes with some door openings.
Pros:
Quality construction. Nice hardware. Multiple use.
Cons:
Cannot use the outer tab holes with the provided clips, as clips are not long enough to reach the holes in some door applications. You may find yourself needing to cut your speaker rim in order to drive a screw through the inner holes on these brackets with the 6 1/2" speakers.

Absolutely necessary

Written By lostpyrate, Tucson, AZ on Wednesday, May 14, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter is necessary. However, the ends needed to be trimmed down by about an 1/8th of an inch in order to fit into the factory space adapters that are necessary. It was easy enough though. They can be trimmed down with a pair of tin snips because the plastic is fresh and not brittle.
Pros:
Easy adaption to the existing hardware
Cons:
Needed to trim edges

Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Bracket

Written By W. H., Richmond, VA. on Sunday, May 11, 2014

They work, but by far the best. I spent more time mounting the speakers to the adapter, than removing and replacing the speakers. I know there plastic, but they feel cheaply made.
Pros:
They fit I guess.
Cons:
Flimsy. The pinch bolts will pull thru the plastic. if you can find something to tighten them up with. Cheaply made (my opinion).

speaker mounting brackets

Written By R Berry, Dallas, OR on Wednesday, May 07, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They fit the door well, but the pinch bolts were a little sloppy on the speaker, I reamed-out one of the holes for a better fit. They worked okay, but I would have a square indent on the holes and have the pinch bolt have a square head. That would be slick.
Pros:
They fit the doors of my Jeep perfectly
Cons:
They didn't fit the Speakers I bought as good.

Scosche Brackets

Written By Anonymous, Frankfort, IL on Friday, April 25, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first got these brackets, I had a hard time trying to line up the speakers I had with the actual bracket as the instructions are a little unclear for specified speaker sizes. My speakers apparently didn't have the usual mounting holes with the bracket, but I got them in. And my car had odd mounting holes so it was a bit of a shoot until my friend pointed out that it could fit in a peculiar orientation... Has held up since.
Pros:
- It fits my speakers - Solid-ish plastic
Cons:
- Loose fit for actual speakers, glue recommended if it doesn't feel snug to you - Instructions and fittings a bit unclear and slightly misaligned for SOME speakers

Did not fit for Lexus LS430 with Mark Levinson!

Written By fortis1, Evergreen Park, IL on Friday, April 25, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These adapters did not fit my 2001 Lexus LS430 with the Mark Levinson Premium Sound System.
Cons:
I installed M.B.QUART PVM216 6.5" speakers in the front and rear doors. the front doors were an easy removal and reinstallation of factory speakers no modification needed. You do have to use factory mounted speaker brackets. the rear door speakers were a different story. I had to remove the rear door speakers from factory installed brackets and cut out the plastic and used Liquid Nails to secure the M.B.Quart PVM 216 6.5" speakers to the factory speaker spacer brackets.

Written By Jeff, Buffalo, NY on Monday, April 21, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not really all that helpful for GM factory replacements that use the 1 hold-down screw factory speaker. I guess it can be useful as a insulator to keep the speakers from actually touching the steel door sheet metal.
Pros:
Multi purpose
Cons:
Not perfect the small screws and nuts are barely long enough.

Didn't end up needing this?

Written By DavidC, Provo, UT on Sunday, April 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this with some speakers. Didn't end up using them because the speakers fit the stock mounting holes perfectly.
Pros:
Look like they have many holes for various setups
Cons:
The mounting bolts are tiny, and are non-locking. I don't have any firsthand experience to back this up, but I'm assuming something that was constantly vibrating (i.e. a speaker mounted in a vehicle) would eventually come loose, which would be lame.

Good, but needs larger hardware kit and loctite

Written By Jeff, Las Vegas, NV on Thursday, March 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needs a larger hardware kit. The bolt/nut combo mounting kit for the speaker/bracket mating are really small and the bolt is a compression fit. Once put together, it looks like it will hold but loctite should be included just in case for vibration resistance security. The bracket has break-away tabs for mounting options, hope the tabs dont give way while bouncing around in my Jeep. Used it to mount (4) Kicker 40CS654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers which the bracket did not line up very well to Jeep factory holes.
Pros:
It works
Cons:
Small hardware kit, compression fit bolts, no loctite included, break away tabs may not hold on long if 4 wheeling

For a very specific application, but Crutchfield supplies for others

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets were provided to me for a speaker installation in a 2010 Subaru Legacy. The Legacy has slightly oversized holes and a standard 6.5" speaker needs just a little smaller of a diameter to fit. That said, this bracket is not the right answer. It had to be extensively modified to get it to work right. I probably could have drilled new mounting holes, but that would have been a really sloppy install when there were three perfectly good (grommeted) holes which were just a fraction of an inch away from the existing tabs in the bracket. Crutchfield should really look into alternatives, rather than specifying these brackets which are specific to certain Chrysler vehicles.
Pros:
Easily trimmed/drilled.
Cons:
Vehicle-specific part. Should not be recommended/supplied as a one-size-fits all solution.

Not very useful for an '05 GMC Envoy XUV

Written By GW, Dayton, OH on Tuesday, March 04, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For a bracket with that many holes and options there weren't any that lined-up properly on my '05 GMC Envoy XUV. I used them in the rear and could only get 3 holes to line-up for mounting the speakers to the bracket and the 4 holes to mount to the door panel were too long and I had to angle the screws in. Didn't even bother in the front and just drilled a couple new holes in the plastic door speaker panel and mounted the speakers directly. In hindsight I'd have done the same in the rear and skipped the brackets entirely.
Pros:
Lots of mounting holes you'd think would work for just about anything. Came free with the order
Cons:
Pretty-much useless for my aplication.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speaker fits the bracket fine, not with any supplied hardware, but with a quick trip a hardware store they will fit. As far as mounting to the factory opening in my 2011 Jeep Liberty, not even close. Lots of trimming, sanding, and filing are needed. If your product(even a free one) has as many 1 star ratings as it does 5 star ratings, I would reevaluate carrying this product at all!!!
Pros:
speaker fits bracket/adapter
Cons:
bracket/adapter does not fit factory opening, unusable hardware(nuts/bolts/screws)

disappointing...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

well, where to begin.... I was really looking forward to using these brackets. hoping that they would make my install 100% easier.....that was not the case. it took me approximately 90 minutes to figure out how to use them. the instructions didn't tell me much. after realizing that my new speakers did not match up the new mounting brackets, I had to re-engineer the installation process. after 4 hours of fighting to install my speakers, I finished. the brackets matched perfectly to my truck opening, but not the new speaker. it was very disappointing.
Pros:
help fit new speaker in factory opening
Cons:
speakers were too big for bracket speaker mounting holes did not match up to bracket holes
