The rotationally-molded polymer enclosure is strong and rigid, so the bass output is accurate. The built-in sub handles up to 250 watts RMS — just add an amplifier to fill your Scion with bass.

Nice Box, Poor Sub

Toaster Man from Jerome, ID on 3/31/2008

I bought this box being that it is the only one made somewhat cheaply for the Xb. The box is extremely durable and seems to be made of steel, the panel it goes under does rattle, but you can use the packaging material that the box comes with to silence that rattle. Amazing, exept that the sub depth is limited when it comes to buying a new sub, and you WILL buy a new sub. Heres why its only three stars, the EFX sub it comes with is decent when it is brand new, kicked alot harder than my 8Inch bazzoka, but with about 300 watts of power to it, the sub bit the dust and started making horrible racket in about a month. The sub was blown. After about 3 months of that noise (sub still worked, kinda) I was compeled to buy a new one. I ended up with an MTX 4500-04 paired with my APX 1300 clarion amp, and OMG that thing hits hard, it blurs my vision, now that box is really amazing. So i suggest buying the box, blow the sub, get a nice one, and you'll be amazed.

Great box. Not best speaker. Buy for box, use speaker until blown, and put a good one in. With storage lid on top makes a lot of noise, so may want to leave cover off when not using trunk. Overall is great product.

Great Box, Terrible Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, if I was writing this review on the box alone, I would give it five stars, but since the sub comes with it I have to take 2 away. The box itself seems like it is bulletproof. Very solid all the way around. The sub on the other hand is pretty weak. It sounds ok at low volumes, but try to turn up the volume, and it's painfully obvious that this is an "off brand" woofer. It distorts way to easily even with my 220 watt amp's gain at less than half. I can't wait to switch it out. Buy this box for the fact it is a great box, and dump the woofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like most of us owners of the xb, trunk space is limited as is. So finding a sub that is customly designed to fit in the rear storage compartment is a blessing. I love how it fits perfectly back there without having to sacrafice any space. I purchased an alpine m450 mono amp to power the sub, I think its 220w x 1. The setup is perfect. The sub hits ok. It tends to bottom out at high volume even with the sub volume level at 1. I think i will be swapping it out for something that can handle high volume better. 5 stars for what its designed to do, 2.5 stars for the sub. Buy it for the reason you need it for... cheap price for a great box, upgrade to a better sub later.

Fits well and sounds good. Required a little padding to keep the car's panel from vibrating on top of it, but that was easy.
Good stuff; I recommend it.

Better than expected.

Sumabat from bay area, CA on 8/1/2006

To be honest with you I have never heard of the Scosche brand. So I thought I would pick this up since it was a custom enclosure that dropped out of the way in the trunk so it would still afford me the space I really did not want to give up by putting a box of sub(s) back there. And if worse comes to worse I would replace the "stock" 10" subwoofer that came with the enclosure and go with what I thought would be a better-built sub like an Eclipse or something.

So I had a perfectly-matched 250-Watt amp installed and when I came back the installers were all crowded around my car talking about how surprised they were of the sound quality that came from the little tucked-away sub/enclosure. I had to hear it for myself and instead I FELT it! Even the car's alarm next to mine went off! The sub/enclosure fit cleanly, perfectly in the floorspace of the trunk and plays so much deeper bass than I thought would be possible from such a small enclosure with a 10" sub. I used to have a pair of 12" hooked up to a 300-watt amp in my old car and I do not think that even compares to what this little thing can produce.

So this is a great buy. I don't think I'll be replacing the sub because it sounds great as-is (and I never thought I would say that). But it looks well built with the rubber surround and tight fit and it plays very deep and very clear bass. And people may say that the Scion xB was not made to be aerodynamic but I think it's because the car itself was made to be a subwoofer enclosure. As loud as I play my music there is no metallic rattling or clinking heard. Just pure back-massaging bass thumps that play loudly and cleanly enough to set-off alarms.

This little box is impressive. Everyone likes the fact that it saves trunk space and still gives out a reasonable thump. I have an 800 watt mono amp running to it so it's kinda overpowered but it still stands up well to the harassment. Great buy!!!

I must say, this little box performs beyond what I had imagined. Fits perfectly and came with everything you need to get it dressed up in your car. I need my rear space for the baby stroller and the pack-n-play so this box was a PERFECT match! I have a JL 250/1 running to it and it sounds awesome. Can't beat it for the price and a very clean look!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The title describes this enclosure perfectly. First off, for the thousands of people who are skeptical about the "off-brand" subwoofer, this thing hits hard. I have 200W RMS running to it from a RF 200x1 amp and the signal is from the new Alpine CD/MP3 head unit. It does not "thud" enough to break glass, but it BOOMS perfect. It has deep, clear, and distinct lows at every volume level.

The enclosure itself is nothing short of bulletproof and it fit like a glove alongside my spare.

I am completely happy with this sub and would reccommend it to everyone even considering purchasing it.

Good buy to keep stock

dgboggs from Fort Wayne on 8/24/2005

I bought this because I really hated the idea of a box in the back. I haul things, and it was a pain to remove the 12". This fits right in, is VERY solid, and seems to have a good sub in it. It's not quite as strong as the Fosgate 12 I had, but it does really well. I don't want a stereo to impress others and rattle a neighborhood, I just want it to sound good and hit hard in the car, and this does. Plus, I was always REALLY concerned that if I had a 12 in a box in the back, that it would be like an open invitation to a thief. This way, the sub is totally hidden. This is an excellent buy!

Charles from far rockaway NY on 6/11/2005

Glad to see Crutchfield finally recognizes the scion xb... been waiting for this for a long time... fit is excellent!!! the only reason i did not give it a 5 is you will need a very strong sub amp to get it to pound but besides that it's the best buy for the money. Check around and you'll see crutchfield has the comp. beat by a longshot on this one.
