won't fit

Did not fit, I will have to modify completely to make it work.

Close, but not quite

I got this kit as recommended by Crutchfield for my car, and included with the Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS head unit I purchased. I'm sure the kit works great in the right situation; it seems as well-constructed as any. The "frame" (for lack of a better word) itself fits the opening in my FJ Cruiser just fine, however, without modification, this kit does not fit the Pioneer unit. It is both too narrow and too short. I had to cut the top and bottom pieces off of the frame such that only the side pieces remained, and then I was able to use it to mount my stereo. Turns out there is a kit that is simply the side pieces (without need for modification), and Crutchfield sells it. The correct kit is the Metra 95-8202. Crutchfield really needs to update their database so that if a Pioneer unit with the larger dimensions is sold, the kit that is included is the Metra. I will say that Crutchfield's customer service was great. Initially, the support rep was going to send me another Scosche kit, for free, just in case my attempt at modifying the first one went awry. With a little research, I was able to determine that I actually needed the Metra kit. I called back to support, and they were able to update the shipment, and send me the Metra instead. I suppose my review is more of a warning to other FJ Cruiser owners who purchase a newer Pioneer double DIN unit. Get the Metra 95-8202.

Pros: Well-built kit.

Cons: Does not fit around the Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS (and yet it is recommended by Crutchfield for this unit).

Crutchfield response on June 16, 2015 After looking into this situation more deeply, our tech support team has determined that the Metra 95-8202 kit is indeed a better option for the FJ Cruiser. We have switched to that kit in our database, so all future customers will receive the Metra kit instead of this one from Scosche.

Scosche TA2076B Dash Kit

Written by: Cody from Utah on March 31, 2015

This is worthless is a cheap plastic kit that is not even usefull isn the aplication they sent it for. And dont call and ask for from the install department because they will jus t treat you like your stupid! not impressed with this transaction from Crutchfield

Pros: none

Cons: cheap plastic not made for fj

Crutchfield response on April 20, 2015 We're sorry to hear that you had such a rough time. This kit is actually custom made specifically for the FJ Cruiser.and no other vehicles. The problem is that this is a tough installation. There's not much room in the dash and the kit is designed to accommodate that lack of space. We're currently looking for other kit options, in case there's something better out there.

Very easy to follow instructions, the fit was spot on and it is a very solid mount without the additional rear support.

Pros: fit perfect easy to install

Dash kit install 2007 FJ Cuiser

Written by: Beyond Visual Range from Salt Lake City, UT on November 10, 2011

2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While the kit fills the dash opening of the FJ Cruiser well, the mounting of the kit leaves a lot to be desired. The kit forces you to abandon the steel mounting brackets of the FJ, for the plastic ones supplied with the kit. If the sides of the kit were molded correctly, it could simply slide over the factory steel mounting brackets and attach with the four corner tabs. In the end I ended up cutting the side mounting brackets of the kit to accomplish this.

Pros: Fits the opening fairly well.

Cons: The product forces you to give up the factory steel hard mounts when, if it was designed better, it wouldn't need to.

This fit perfectly into my Toyota FJ. My only complaint is that the plastic is flat black, but my console and the radio are shiny black. Unfortunately no one makes a shiny black version of this. As a note Crutchfield shipped this super fast and their order system is excellent.

I purchased this trim kit to install my Sony XNV-770BT in my Cruiser and was completely surprised when I discovered that the brackets were all plastic! The trim kit itself is not completely solid and the brackets kinda just snap/lock into it. I wasn't too thrilled when after I installed the HU and the dash bezel, I noticed a little bit of a "side-to-side" free play between my HU and the trim kit. However, it works and I'm happy with the outcome. It works, but I think it coulda been a bit more solid/sturdy! I believe this is probably the best of all the trim kits available for the FJ.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this kit to mount an Alpine INA-W900BT in my wife's 2010 FJ. My first impression was that the black plastic adapter felt a bit flimsy, but, once installed, it has sufficient strength to firmly mount the head unit. Everything fit well; the finished installation is very clean and professional. The install earned me Super x2 Jackpot Bonus Points with my wife.

Not good enough

Written by: Jami from ZooLand, NC on June 27, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been a Crutchfield customer for a year. This bracket is pitiful. It is thin and flimsy. I am not pleased with the quality versus the cost. I have a JVC KW-XG700 head unit and the bracket leaves too much space on the sides of the head unit between the bracket, if that makes sense. Originally my JVC was purchased from Crutchfield for a 2008 Suzuki SX4 and with it I received a Metra dash kit. That kit is by far a better quality kit than the Scosche kit for my FJ. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find another brand of kit for my FJ so the Scosche will just have to do.

Doesn't quite fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This came with the Eclipse AVN4430 for my FJ Cruiser. It doesn't quite fit. When the face of the Eclipse unit flips down to load a cd/dvd, it can't close completely because of the faceplate. My installer had to file down a bit on the top and bottom of this receiver kit in order for it to work right.

Bent

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My frame arrived with the top horizontal piece somewhat bent or bowed. I thought upon installation it would straighten out, but it did not. Consequently, the top piece somewhat obstructs the CD slot, so I have to press it up a bit when inserting or ejecting. Otherwise the unit fits very well (using it with a Kenwood 7120), with the bend only apparent when the face of the Kenwood opens. This would not be an issue with a unit that doesn't open. The frame is packaged in plastic bag, which may make it more prone to bending during shipment. I'm hoping over time it will straighten out.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fit the radio (Clarion MAX685BT) and the vehicle opening perfectly. No shimming necessary to get all hardware to match bolt holes. Holds the radio very firmly. Some of the kit's face is visible b/w the radio and dash but unless you look at it with a seriously critical eye it will disappear. Don't expect a custom professional level job and you will be more than satisfied - I mean come on, it's $20.

'08 FJ, Black bezel. I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z2 in my pickup and loved it so much I bought another for the FJ. Here's the deal. If you are going to mount a head unit with any kind of tilt feature, explore other options for the trim. Here is my gripe. The DD opening in the FJ is almost too small to have a good trim kit because the clearance between the top and bottom is a little on the small side. When I open and close the face on the Z2 it rubs ever so slightly. But enough that I worry about it loading up the drive motor. If you tweak the positioning of the mounting plate it helps a little but I'm still considering changing it out for another kit. On the bright side... If you have any other DD head unit without a tilt feature, go for it. It looks great and fits good!

Terrible Dash Kit

Written by: Tim from US Military on April 2, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall this dash kit and does not fit very well with the Pioneer Avic D3. There is overlapping plastic and gaps between the stereo, dash, and kit itself. This kit will not sit flush and will not give a clean appearance. I would use the kit made by Metra #958202. It is intended for a Scion but it fits flush and clean in an FJ Cruiser.

FJ Install kit

Written by: Randy from San Ramon California on January 30, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

THe kit has perfect fit and finish for the Pioneer AVIC D3 unit I installed in our Toyota FJ. Looks like a factory job. One area that could make it even better on the FJ is that it installs almost flat up and down. I shimmed the bottom to kick it out to give alittle angle as the driver sits higher. This would give a clearer view of the screen to the driver. The view is good but with more angle designed in, it could be great. I am very happy with the product and support I needed on the wiring harness was second to none from Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought my FJ in March, Decided on an Alpine W200 for a swap. Unfortunately in April there were no FJ specific kits available yet (car just came out in March) and I used a 4Runner "wings" kit. The wing kit was just that, two plastic pieces that filled both sides of the opening. Not the greatest looking kit, this also required some modification to the bracketing that holds the HU in place to accomodate the wings and to place the HU in the propper position.

When I heard about the Scosche, I was estatic! Installation was simple and one esthetic component that was missing on my original installation was the top and bottom piece. Now it looks OEM and complete. I was worred about the plastic mountings being able to hold up such a heavy HU, but seems to work fine. I was a bit worried when I received the adapter since it was not square and was slightly tweeked, but upon installation and bolted down, everything was aligned correctly.

Only caution is specific for the Alpinew200, others you have to play with; mount the adapter as far forward as you can on the HU. This allows the screen when inserting CD/DVD or changing tilt angles to not catch on the upper or lower plastic pieces.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I currently have the Metra 95-8202 and am unhappy with how it makes the Kenwood DNN 770HD stick out of the dash opening about 1" when used with the OEM brackets. I figured that for $12 I'll give the Scosche kit a try to see if it allows for more of a flush appearance. [ James Feb 14, 2016 ]
