Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At least that way you'll warm your hands and get SOMETHING out of it. The wire cutters were exactly as others here described them - they don't close enough to strip wire housing. The multimeter? A brick would have been more helpful than this joke of a piece of equipment. It never turned on and doesn't have a replaceable battery design. The socket sizes are almost useless without a 10mm, and the handle is too long to fit into tight dashboard spaces. All that being said, I should have read the other scathing reviews before blowing my money. Also, hats off to Crutchfield customer service for refunding me 100% even though I'm not returning it.

Cons: This list is so long that I don't have the finger strength to type it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The bit driver and bits are ok. The driver is top notch. The bits were rusty. The multimeter the entire reason i bought it...garbage. It did not work upon opening the box. Opening the multimeter up revealed why. The battery was rusty and exploded inside. And the fuse was blown. Dont know if the removal tool was any good didnt need it. The wire strippers/cutters are garbage. They look good but do not strip at all they dont close enough to strip any size wire. Just break the wires. The connectors are the only thing that was good about it.

Pros: None found yet.

Cons: That Crutchfield sells this crap.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Without a doubt, the worst excuse for tools I have ever purchased. The multimeter doesn't work. At all. The crimpers/strippers crimp, but the strippers don't close far enough to strip speaker wire. The gap between the blades is about as thick as the wire sheath itself, making it completely useless. I am disappointed that crutchfield carries such a lousy product, and will not ever purchase something that says Scosche on it again.

Pros: Have not found any yet

Cons: It costs real money to purchase pretend tools.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product was a waste of my money. Especially, the two main tools needed. First the wire stripper/crimper was not sharp, could not cut or strip on first try. It was very frustrating. Second, the multimeter seems like a cheap product with the battery compartment very hard to get to. Needed a very small philips screw to open the compartment. The kit does not mention anything about needing a battery , or what size battery it requires. I recommend buying these tools elsewhere. The Crutchfield team was excellent so far. They refunded me credits for the tool kit, and the tech team is awesome. Kudos!

This tool kit is not worth the money-the only useful piece in it is the the pry tool. The wire cutters did not work. Spend the extra money to buy the better wire strippers and the pry tool kit.

Why did I do it?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In my excitement at purchasing a new CD receiver for my Jeep, I got caught up in acquiring the tools to make the installation "professional". So I opted for the installtion tool kit. The only piece I removed from the blister pack during the installation was the plastic lever to pop off trim panels. There was no need for a voltmeter, the crimping tool was excessively stiff and useless, the screwdriver was astonishingly poor quality, and the bits an pieces utterly irrelevant to my installation. There's a reason why they call this kind of thing an Impulse Purchase -- and it was a bad impulse. Now I have to store this useless junk. At least I didn't waste a lot of money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Came in handy. I ordered it not knowing what tools would be needed. But it turned out I only needed the wire cutter/stripper tool, all the other tools were of no use to me but I will keep them on hand for future projects.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice set of tools to have and the price is probably within reason. However I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a 10mm hex bit - it has a 7 & an 8 but no 10 and 10 is probably more in demand. Also the handle on the driver could be more useful as to store the bits rather than have the little holder - it's about useless from being a practical piece other than appearing nice in the package.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this with a radio for the wire stripper/crimper but realized too late
that I didn't need it as I already have one. Upon arrival I decided to use the
items since it was at hand with all the other things for the radio, like the
wire harnesses.
The crimper is of medium to poor quality. Its somewhat hard to open due to the
center rivet being too tight.
If you don't have the tools then you'll need this kit. Otherwise don't bother.

Very useful tool kit for in dash installations. My only complaint is I had to use my own rachet set as the ones included were no where close to being large enough.

Written By cx7pilot, tx on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

bought it mainly for the multi-bit drvier, crimper/wire stripper and trim panel removal tool and used it in my 07 honda pilot to replace the factory cd/radio unit with pioneer avh-p4000dvd plus cd/dvd changer, hd radio add-on, wireless back-up camera, i-pod cable adaptor. saving it for next car a/v diy project.

Only good for 1 time use

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I agree with Dave from VA, don't buy this kit to replace more than one radio or 2 sets of speakers. The plastic trim tool is great and helped prevent damage to plastic trim. It was useless after installing a head unit and 4 speakers. The wire stripper/crimper just makes it, it is on the cheap side, but so is this kit and maybe that's all most of us use it for.

This set is OK for the one time use, but if you are going to be doing multiple installs, buy quality stuff. There is a severe lack of driver bits, so much so that I had to use my Craftsman set instead, because only one of the bits in this set was the right size. The crimper/striper works fine and the panel remover will come in handy. I didn't even take the plastic wrap off of the multimeter, however. Again, for one or two time use, it's a good set, otherwise, spend your money on something that will last.

All the tools work perfectly with no problems. Saves a lot of time when doing your own installation for car stereos. These tools are solid and will last a long time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this set mainly for the cheap multimeter. I was going to use it in a navigation installation (a one time use) and it turned out to be no more than a waste of time and money. This is a collection of the worst tools you will ever see. The multimeter display is poor at best. The digits are incomplete and they flash. The probes are flimsy and cheap. The two arms of the crimpers are bent and misaligned so they cannot be used to strip wires or crimp...useless. You get what you pay for with this. Spend the money and buy some real tools.
