About the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro

Ralph Graves

A "studio staple" that works well at home and the office

There's a reason Sennheiser still produces the iconic HD 280 Pro headphones. These classics earned their reputation in the recording studio, but their clear, well-balanced sound is great for listening to music as well. They are so detailed and accurate that we used them as our "control" headphones when developing our SpeakerCompare™ technology for auditioning speakers online virtually.

The padded earcups significantly reduce external sound, so the headphones can be used in the office or high-noise environments. They also swivel for single-ear monitoring, and allow the headphones to fold flat for easy storage.

From the review Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones: Comfortable sound

"The HD 280 Pros are a good, basic set of headphones that can be a marked improvement over the earbuds that come with most portable audio devices. Even if you're not a DJ in a club, the tight seal of the earcups and the solid sound reproduction of the headphones make a winning combination. Whether you're looking for a good set of headphones for work, or just want better-than-average headphones for on-the-go listening, consider the Senneheiser HD 280 Pro headphones."

Features

Design: The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones adjust to the shape of your head, with their joints, flexible materials and extendable arms. The closed design attenuates ambient noise up to 32 dB. They are very comfortable, even if used for long periods due to their lightweight, soft, circum-aural ear cushions, and padded, adjustable headband.

Magnet System: These headphones use neodymium magnets, offering high efficiency and light weight.

Eliptical Circumaural Earcups: The HD 280 Pro headphones feature an around-the-ear design, with soft ear cups to provide optimum comfort in those places where sturdy material would rest on your head.

Impedance: With a 64 Ω impedance, the HD 280s are compatible with nearly any source.

Collapsible: The headphones fold for easy storage.

Single-Sided Cord: The coiled cable attaches to only one side (left), so it's less likely to get tangled when you move.

Full Size Adapter: The headphones come with a screw-on 3.5mm-to-1/4" adapter already installed. It can be easily removed so you can use the headphones with your favorite portable music sources.

Replaceable Parts: Sennheiser headphones are modular for long service life. Ear cushions, headbands, and cables are easily snapped out so new ones, which can be ordered from the manufacturer, can take their place.

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

Q
Do these plug into an AV receiver (denon) which is all I need them for?
mark  Jun 20, 2019

A
Yes, these will plug in just fine. It comes with the 1/4" adaptor most receivers need.
matthew  Feb 02, 2021
A
Unless the av receiver has a headphone jack (like on your phone or previously like on a Walkman :)) you will need an adaptor for these to work.
emily  Jun 20, 2019
A
Yes, as long as your AV receiver has a standard headphone jack.

Pretty well in my view. They are very comfortable, and well sealed. These are my primary "travel" headphones.

We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
Can other people in the room hear the tv still even when you have the headset on?

A
It depends on how load the volume is. My wife tells me she can hear when I use them at a higher level, so there is a degree of bleed for a few feet around them.
alec  Mar 16, 2017
A
Yes.

Not sure I understand the question...? Other folks in the room not wearing the headphones will surely be able to hear the television... they will not hear the music/noise coming from the headphones... those wearing the headphones will not hear the television and will only hear the source of the audio they are listening to with the headphones. I love mine. They're large and you look a bit like an offensive coordinator on the field of a football game, but for private listening within the house they do the trick of great audio and shut out the rest of the noise in the house.

No. The sound isolation properties ( as well as the fidelity, and sensitivity in terms of using these headphones with an MP3 player or similar device ) of these headphones is very good, I originally bought these for a plane flight to Ireland. I do have to say that the pressure on the area around the ear limits the amount of time that you can wear the headphones. You can try to stretch the headband, but be careful not to distort or over bend it. If you purchase these headphones also purchase a 10 or 20 foot non-coiled ( or straight ) extension cord because the coil cord built in when stretched put a torsional force on the headphones ( makes them want to turn on your head ). I would purchase these headphones again and recommend them to others. Nancy if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
