Our take on the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro

by Dave Bar
Sennheiser

Professional-quality headphones for work or play

The Sennheiser HD 380 Pro monitoring headphones are perfect for critical listeners who spend a lot of time in a recording studio or on the road deejaying. They feature a closed, around-the-ear design that provides high-accuracy sound plus excellent passive noise attenuation, so you can hear your music with minimal outside interference. Exclusive Sennheiser Duofol diaphragms deliver extended frequency response and the ability to play loud and clear in demanding applications. No matter where you use them, or what you listen to, these 'phones will give you sparkling highs, engaging mids, and deep, dynamic bass.

Designed with the pro in mind

Sturdy yet lightweight, Sennheiser gave the HD 380 Pros plenty of padding for hours of wearing comfort. A fold-flat design and included slimline carrying case make them easy to take along. The long coiled cord stays out of your way so you can move, and comes with a convertible headphone plug that works with both mini- and full-sized jacks.

From the review Sennheiser HD380 Pro headphones: Clean, accurate sound for pro and amateur listening

"The name 'Pro' says it. The Sennheiser HD380 Pros were made for studio use. But they also did well for my amateur listening sessions, too! These headphones reproduce sound with a high degree of accuracy and no coloration. If you want to hear what your music really sounds like, I recommend trying the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro headphones..."

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser HD 380 pro professional monitoring headphones provide extended frequency response (8Hz - 27kHz) with increased sound pressure level (up to 110 dB) for accurate sound reproduction in demanding applications. The headphones are lightweight and comfortable for extended listening sessions.

Over-the-ear Design: The HD 380 pro headphones feature a closed, circumaural (over-the-ear) design for excellent passive attenuation of ambient noise (up to 32dB). The padded foam earpads are replaceable, if necessary.

E.A.R.: Sennheiser's Ergonomic Acoustic Refinement (E.A.R.) and Duofol diaphragms greatly reduces distortion and the comb filter effect.

Headphone Cable: The headphones come with a single-sided 3.3' coiled cable (expandable to 9.8') with a gold-plated 3.5mm miniplug and screw-type 1/4" adapter. Its modular design lets you replace the cable if it becomes damaged.

Slimline Case: The HD 380 pro has a collapsible design, allowing you to fold them flat for storage in the supplied semi-hard slimline zippered carrying case.

Sennheiser HD380 Pro headphones

Sennheiser doesn't use the term "Pro" lightly, so I was expecting quite a lot from the HD380 Pro headphones. I wasn't disappointed.

Awesome

Written By A3R, Philadelphia, Pa on Saturday, December 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All around great headphones, I'm mainly using them for listening to my iPod and gaming. After listening to 10 dollar headphones for the longest time these are a huge change. The best way I can describe it is a nice clean crisp sound. And since these are over the ear it really helps isolate the sound. The only thing I would change would be the cord. Since I plan to use these on a bus and not in a studio the cord is a bit overkill. I'm still in the process of finding a replacement.
Pros:
Amazing sound, comfortable, comes with carrying case , removable cord
Cons:
The coiled cord

The sound is higher league than the ones i heard in the store... Especially the "designer" kind. ... i dont know how they do it but it is really amazing the detail and the quality of the sound. They are Professional Grade

Written By Sasquatch, Northern Virginia on Wednesday, July 17, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I produce voice over narration and interactive courseware. I needed a set of professional grade, over the ear, closed back headphones for recording voice overs. The HS380 PRO meets the need. They don't look cool, and I don't care. I didn't buy them to look cool. I bought them because I needed headphones for professional production. Sound quality is great, with excellent mid-range presence and voicing and no bass boominess. The build quality is excellent. Noise reduction is surprisingly good for headphones that are not noise cancelling. I have found that my head gets hot if I wear the headphones for a long time, but otherwise they are very comfortable. If you're looking for a set of pro quality headphones at a price that won't break the bank, the HS380 Pro should be on your short list.
Pros:
Sound Quality and Build Quality.
Cons:
Coolness Factor is low. However, if you want to pay extra for cool looking headphones simply because they are cool looking, go look at Beats by Dr. Dre. If you are looking for performance instead of looks, you've come to the right place.

Excellent for Work

Written By m3zito, Cambridge, MA on Friday, November 02, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only been using them for a few days now but these are excellent for the office. The sound quality is top notch, better than Bose in my opinion. They block outside noise well, but they are not active noise cancelling so you can steal hear the drone of an air conditioner at low volumes. I originally tried the HD 598 with the open air design. While I think the sound quality was slightly better in the highs and the open sound, I simply was not able to keep them due to the amount of outside sound they let in and sound they let out. I would have kept them for home use but my primary use is the office.

They also fold flat and come with a nice carrying case.
Pros:
Sound quality, sound isolation, carrying case.
Cons:
Closed design can create a slight echo effect.
