Great Sound + Wireless = Freedom!

After a month of readily using these headphones almost every day (we have a baby in our small space), we are very thankful we got these headphones. And we also finally think we know how to use them properly. The sound is quite good for both movies and regular TV. And currently I have it hooked up through the headphone jack of my receiver. I haven't had time to fiddle in the tight space behind the receiver to do a direct RCA connection - so perhaps the sound may be better. The only thing that I'm not sure about is when there is dead air, sometimes I hear a slight low hum. Is it a battery issue? Is it a source issue? Not sure. But overall, as someone who used to be able to pump up his 5.1 home theatre system, I am quite satisfied.

Pros: 1) Other brands eg Sony - transmitter only has SINGLE mode. So cannot add headphones - not even for your significant other. Sennheiser allows up to 4 headphones. 2) This model has an "attenuator" button to punch up the volume on the dialogue. It is quite helpful when you're watching loud movies so you want to turn it down but still be able to hear the dialogue. 3) each headphone has its own volume control. So my wife can't complain about the volume. 4) Depending on walls, good distance.

Cons: 1) Printed instructions are terrible. The online instructions are better but still not clear enough to know exactly how to set up multiple headphones. Took a couple weeks of using it and being frustrated at times when I had guests over but the headphones didn't seem to want to work. 2) Perhaps once a week the sound may be a bit funny if watching a quiet movie with the low hum. But it doesn't last the whole time. Not sure what the issue is yet.

The sound is very good however the instructions are very Bad. I had to search the Sennheiser website to find out how to pair these with the transmitter. No instructions were included with the headphones.

Pros: Sound

Cons: No instructions

Have not used at any other venue , just at home. Don't think they are intended for wireless use without the transmitter. My wife is hearing impaired and we both find they are much better than out surround sound. We love them. ( You can understand Jack Bauer in the series "24" when he whispers. [ ROBERT  Aug 06, 2014 ]
Not that I'm aware of. [ BRADFORD E  Aug 06, 2014 ]
We used the HDR160 in a Retirement Community in a Large Hall where they show movies. A few of the residents were finding it hard to hear (Understand) the Soundtrack of the movies, even with Surround Sound etc. So far results have been favorable. Obviously you would need to be careful about the wireless range, but it is pretty good, if you can get the box installed in the same room. Each box supports up to (4) Headsets. A second box can be added for more capacity. You will also want a second charging cord for the Headsets, they only ship with one, which is also the power for the Transmitter. [ Rick  Aug 06, 2014 ]
This has to plug into an audio source. I guess you could hook it up to a microphone but that is really not what it is designed for and I'm sure there are better products for amplifying ambient sound. [ CHRIS  Aug 06, 2014 ]
Amazing sound quality. You won't be disappointed. [ RICHARD L  Dec 11, 2013 ]
Not only does this speaker have a great sound by itself with a wide range volume, but it is so portable that placing it at different locations within the room or area in which to be used that one can achieve modifications to the sound that enhances the genre in which you are listening. I am so pleased with this speaker that any time I take my Ipad mini or Ipod with me I always include the Bose Soundlink mini as well. I am very satisfied with this speaker. [ Ron  Dec 09, 2013 ]
great sound [ ARIEL S  Dec 09, 2013 ]
I am 78 with fair hearing. The phones well meets my needs, with a full sound over the spectrum, , tight with all the backgrou nd sounds in a movie.. Base is not deep but voice is betteer than room speakers. [ WAYNE E  Dec 06, 2013 ]
