Product Research

Features

Overview: The HDR 160 is an accessory (or replacement) headset for the Sennheiser RS 160 wireless headphone system. The closed back, over-ear design helps keep external noise out.

Note: The HDR 160s are not stand-alone headphones. They must be used with a compatible Sennheiser wireless headphone system (such as RS 160).

Kleer Wireless Transmission Technology: The RS 160 headphone system features the digital wireless audio transmission technology from Kleer. Kleer technology transmits uncompressed audio up to 60 feet over a 2.4 GHz digital link (2.4-2.8GHz), enabling you to enjoy your music without the hassle of cables. Kleer's uncompressed digital wireless transmission delivers CD-quality sound.

Note: Kleer technology will not interfere with wireless networks or other 2.4 GHz devices.

Batteries: Power for the headset is provided by two rechargeable "AAA" batteries (included) that fit into compartments in the headset. The batteries are recharged using the charger included with the RS 160 system. Fully charged batteries have an operating time of approximately 24 hours and require approximately 16 hours to recharge.

Auto Power Off: If there is no signal from the transmitter for more than 5 minutes, the headphones automatically switch to standby mode.

Controls:

  • Volume: volume up/down; on the right earcup

Q
What wires or adapters do you need that do not come with the RS-160 headset?

No extra wires are needed. We have two pair...one for up and one for down.... the downstairs is able to pretty much cover our large backyard and a lot of the front..... Great investment....I can read while my wife watches HGTV :)

Q
Will the HDR160 pair with the RS180 transmitter? I have the RS 180 with 2 HDR180 headsets, but need a 3rd headset and the HDR180 has been discontinued.

You sure can use the HDR160 headphones with the transmitter in the RS180 system. Those will work together! HTH! My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Can this headset ( wireless) be used for the hearing impaired for movie theaters and live shows?

A
Have not used at any other venue , just at home. Don't think they are intended for wireless use without the transmitter. My wife is hearing impaired and we both find they are much better than out surround sound. We love them. ( You can understand Jack Bauer in the series "24" when he whispers.

A
Not that I'm aware of.

We used the HDR160 in a Retirement Community in a Large Hall where they show movies. A few of the residents were finding it hard to hear (Understand) the Soundtrack of the movies, even with Surround Sound etc. So far results have been favorable. Obviously you would need to be careful about the wireless range, but it is pretty good, if you can get the box installed in the same room. Each box supports up to (4) Headsets. A second box can be added for more capacity. You will also want a second charging cord for the Headsets, they only ship with one, which is also the power for the Transmitter.

This has to plug into an audio source. I guess you could hook it up to a microphone but that is really not what it is designed for and I'm sure there are better products for amplifying ambient sound.

Q
How is the sound quality? Does it sound tinny like the old transister AM raidos or does it have a fuller sound with some decent bass?

I'm a semi-audiophile and the sound is great in my opinion....

Not only does this speaker have a great sound by itself with a wide range volume, but it is so portable that placing it at different locations within the room or area in which to be used that one can achieve modifications to the sound that enhances the genre in which you are listening. I am so pleased with this speaker that any time I take my Ipad mini or Ipod with me I always include the Bose Soundlink mini as well. I am very satisfied with this speaker.
