IE 60

Enjoy high-definition sound on the go

Designed for critical listeners, the Sennheiser IE 60 in-ear headphones deliver accurate, full-bodied sound while effectively blocking out external noise, so you can enjoy your music at lower and safer volume levels. Their high-performance dynamic drivers serve up plenty of sonic detail. You'll hear clear, highly articulated sound — drums with lots of of "snap" and body, guitars and acoustic instruments with natural warmth and openness, plus taut, tuneful bass.

Helpful extras add to your comfort

Ergonomically designed soft silicon ear tips help create a seal that minimizes ambient sound. Sennheiser includes a variety of different sizes and types to help you get a comfortable, custom fit. Made to worn with the cables looped behind-the-ear, the IE60s also come with detachable ear hooks that flex and bend to hold the headphones gently, yet securely in place — even when you're on the go. And the supplied carrying case gives you a safe place to store your headphones when not in use.

These are bazaar. I have an older set of Sennheiser buds with the loop that wraps around the back of the neck which have excellent sound, so I was looking forward to a lighter, even better performing earbud set. These were terrible. the design for fitting in the ear is bazaar, and totally ineffective. They fell out of my ears easier than stock ipod buds without the little add-on loops. With the add-on loops the stay loosely in the ear. the sound quality is poor with very little bass unless they are jammed into the ear canal to about the depth of the temporal lobe. However, none of the sizes of bud tips could keep them jammed in that far even if I was willing to accept the lack of comfort. The performance of these in terms of actual sound quality when wearing them during running or walking is not as good as ten-dollar sony buds with the built in earloops (which claim no better than "good" quality). The fit is poor as far comfort and retention.

Pros: Able to return them easily through the excellent service at Crutchfield. Makes every other earbud in existence seem good.

Cons: Very poor performance. High cost.

I have these and the Monster Cable Pro Gold, and these fit soo much better in ear, thus making them a lot more comfortable. Also the cable going over the ear is more comfortable than I thought it would be. The Noise Isolation is fair even after going through all of the included ear bud options. The sound quality is excellent, even in comparison to the MC Golds, but that may be due to the better fit. They work well for airplane travel.

Pros: SQ, fit, quality, comfort.

Cons: Noise reduction is only fair, but still adequate.

Product Research

Overview: The Sennheiser IE 60 noise-isolating, ear-canal headphones are designed for on-the-go listening. The in-ear design gives you excellent attenuation of ambient noise (up to 20%) so you can enjoy your music, even in noisy environments. The IE 60s come with two types of ear buds in three sizes each, flexible ear hooks, a cleaning tool, and a sturdy storage case.

Drivers: Neodymium magnets provide the power for the dynamic transducer system. These strong, but tiny magnets give you enhanced bass response and greater sound definition.

Earbuds: The headphones come with two types of ear buds: silicone and lamella (or staged). There are three sizes (small, medium, large) for each type. The silicone ear buds are found on most in-ear headphones, and are made of soft silicon rubber. The lamella ear buds have two stages to give you a better fit and more noise isolation than the silicone ear buds.

Ear Hooks: The headphone cable can be worn straight down from the ears or looping around the ears. If you choose to wear the cable looped around the ear, the flexible ear hooks can be used to conform the loop to the shape of each ear for a more comfortable fit.

Cable/Remote: The IE 60 has a 4' symmetrical, straight cable with a 3.5mm miniplug terminal. A sliding cable cinch lets you eliminate the slack in the cable for better comfort.

Storage Case: The included storage case has a sliding drawer opening with molded foam rubber for the ear buds and an indentation for winding the cable. Extra ear buds can be stored on posts on the top of the drawer, while the cleaning tool can be stored on the bottom. There is a space for storing a desiccant packet to keep moisture away from your headphones.

Specifications: The IE 60 has the following specs:

  • Frequency Response: 10-18kHz
  • Nominal Impedance: 16 Ω
  • SPL (1 kHz/1 Volt): 115 dB
  • THD (1 kHz): < 0.1%
  • Connector: 3.5mm
  • Weight: 0.49 ounces (14 grams)
