About the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 AEi

Jeff Miller

Retro style, modern features, classic sound

The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 headphones take what we loved about the original and turn it up a notch. You still get the cool throwback look, but these 'phones cleverly fold into a bundle that's easier to take with you. They feel even more durable, thanks to rugged, heavy-duty parts like stainless steel sliders and a leather headband. They have slightly larger diaphragms than the first generation Momentum 'phones, for a balanced, refined sound that has a little extra punch in the low end.

Comfortable, relaxed fit

Sennheiser also improved the feel of the Momentum 2.0 'phones. They feature oversized cushioned earpads covered in soft, luxurious leather. Sennheiser gave them larger earcups than the original Momentums, for an easier fit over more people's ear — one of two key comfort upgrades. The second is a slightly larger headband, which helps these headphones rest on your head without clamping too tightly.

Take calls and control your iPhone®

Connect the detachable cable to your Apple device, and you can take advantage of the three-button remote's full functionality. Play and pause music, skip forward and back, and adjust the volume. The built-in microphone also lets you take calls with your iPhone, easily controlled with the remote.

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser Momentum Around-Ear (M2) headphones are stylish, high-quality headphones. This 2nd Generation of Momentum headphones are lightweight and comfortable, with durable metal construction on the earcup and earcup sliders. The ear pads and headband are covered in luxurious, breathable leather. The Momentum Around-Ear (M2) headphones give you high-performance audio reproduction with rich, detailed sound. The M2 comes with a soft storage pouch and a semi-hard clamshell case, plus a detachable cable with an in-line remote that is compatible with iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Note: A version that works with Android devices, including Samsung Galaxy, LG, HTC, Sony, and other tablets and smartphones is also available.

Design: The M2 headphones have a closed-back, circum-aural (Around-Ear) design which isolates much of the background noise. The headphones are equipped with high-performance neodymium magnets. The impedance is lowered to 18 ohms so it will play portable devices at high volumes without overdriving the device's tiny amp. Hinges above each ear cup allow the headphones to fold up for storage in the included space-saving carrying case.

Detachable Cable: The Momentum Around-Ear headphones are equipped with a detachable 56" audio cable with a slender, straight 3.5mm plug. The cable has an in-line Smart Remote and microphone. The cable connects to the right earcup via a 2.5mm sub-mini plug that twist-locks in place to prevent accidental disconnection.

Smart Remote: The 3-button Smart Remote lets you control iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The outer buttons control Volume Up and Volume Down, while the center button controls music playback and phone calls.

Note: The Smart Remote will control music playback and phone calls for other non-iOS devices, but will not control volume.

Specifications:

Q
Do they have drivers? If so, what size?

A
I searched our site for the size of the drivers in this headphones, but could not find anything. I had the same results on Sennheiser's site. I don't see that this information is available. You might try calling Sennheiser on 860-434-9190 to see if they have that information. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Does the cable come with straight plug for iOS devices or angled plug like the picture shown? Thx.
kang  May 18, 2016

A
It is a straight plug with a very narrow profile, so it should pose no problems being used with any phone case out there. One oddity though; the cable is on the right side, unlike 99.99% of the headphones out there. No good reason for this is ever given. I know that it's a minor point, but for some reason it continues to annoy me.

Comes with a straight plug. Only drawback is that after repeated use the plug end will start to separate.
jay  May 19, 2016

Comes with a straight plug but I purchased these headphones almost a year ago. Sennheiser may have changed the plug to an angled one. Contact Sennheiser if you want to know which one these headphones come with now.
stefan  May 19, 2016
A
The MOMENTUM for Apple devices comes with a straight plug while the Android version comes with an angled one.

With its low profile the angled 3.5-mm stereo jack plug is optimized for the use on mobile devices. Fitted with jack plugs on both ends, the cable is completely detachable and can be replaced if necessary.

Hi: Could you please tell me the difference between the Momentum 2.0 AEi and the OEi (other than the price)? Thanks!

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
