Some headphones are designed for reference listening, while others are designed for portable use. And some are more about making a fashion statement than true audio superiority. Sennheiser designed the Momentum to fill each of these roles by combining modern features and stellar sound in a retro-cool design. The Momentum headphones will bring out the details in your music with a fresh look that harkens back to classic over-ear designs.
Featuring brushed metal ear cup sliders and a rugged leather headband, the Momentum is durable for on-the-go use as well as lounging at home. The soft cushioned ear cups fit comfortably over your ears while the closed-back design blocks out external noise and keeps music from leaking out and disturbing others, so you can enjoy your music in any setting. And because Sennheiser has been improving headphone sound quality for more than 40 years, you can be sure the Momentums will sound as striking as they look, with deep bass response and revealing clarity.
When you're out and about, why not keep your iPhone® or iPod® in your pocket or bag? You'll still maintain control, thanks to the Momentum's remote cable. The 3-button remote lets you play and pause music, skip between tracks and control the volume. A built-in microphone on the remote lets you take calls on your iPhone, while the remote lets you answer calls and hang up. The remote cable terminates in an adjustable miniplug, so you can determine the angle that best suits your portable setup. The Momentum's low impedance ensures these headphones are easily driven by your mobile device, for great sound wherever you go.
The Sennheiser Momentum seems to live in the sweet spot of making just about everything sound good. They have a remarkable consistency across a wide range of musical styles, eliciting musical details while maintaining excellent tonal balance.

I bought these headphones as a gift. They look great. I like how they have a very distinct look that is different from other stylish headphones in this price range, and the build quality seems very high. The sound quality matches the great aesthetics as it too is excellent. I, myself, have not had an extended listening period with these headphones so I cannot speak too much to the overall comfort of them for extended listening periods, but at least the ear cups are very comfortable and nice leather. The carrying case also looks very nice and seems like it is of very good quality as well.
These headphones do not fold so they are not super compact, but at least from our perspective that was not really that big of a deal.
Overall, I think that we were very satisfied with these headphones.
Pros: Sound quality is great. The leather ear cups are very comfortable. Stylish and appears to have a high build quality.
Sennheiser Momentum headphones was a present to my son and he is very pleased with hearing sound more clearly accurately than with any other headphones he has previously used. His word used to describe them was "Epic". I listened to many different brands, some in the same price range and some lower and was amazed at what lack of reproduction accuracy was considered as acceptable. There has been only a few hours of listening but so far performance is awesome.
Pros: good performance, comfortable, nice storage case
Cons: folding to a more compact size would be nice
SQ - In the words of my wife, the primary user: "It's good. It's not Audeze, but it's good." I find that they're quite enjoyable to listen to. They have a well rounded sound that works well with many different types of music. They're not the most analytic headphones at this price point, but they're certainly musical and enjoyable. CF - They're beautiful. A tad retro, but classy. BQ - Excellent build quality. Soft leather where contact is made with skin, and solid steel where strain is placed. Co - If your ears fit inside the ear cups, they're extremely comfortable. If they don't (like mine), you're left with something that's partially on-ear and partially over ear. For me, they're too big to rest on ear, but I have to fold my ear a bit to get the headphones to fit around them. But my wife, who has smaller ears, love the fit. She gives them 5 stars, but I took off a point because they don't fit me. NR - As expected from a closed headphone. Will deaden most ambient noises when music is playing.
Pros: Beautiful Aesthetic Enjoyable Sound High Quality Materials Comfortable (see cons)
Cons: Small Ear Cups
Impressive sound quality with excellent clarity reasonably punchy bass However, calling these around-ear is a bit of a stretch. Just looking at the cups leaves me wondering whether these are actually the on-ear model. The opening measures, very approximately, 33mm x 54mm. That seems to be just barely large enough with some fussing around but the result is not comfortable listening. Whether this is due to sound pressure in a very tight closed environment or due to pressure on the ear from the small cup I don't know.
Contrary to the answer about origin, these are made in China. Perhaps there are multiple locations but the box I received from Crutchfield is clearly marked "Made in China"
Pros: Very good sound Light weight
Cons: Very small "around-ear" cups Made in China, not Germany or Ireland
Pros: Great sound
Okay, so I pulled out my headphones. My first thought was, "these are legit!" I was stoked to get something so well made. They have great quality and the bass is strong but not unbalanced.
Pros: Great look, great sound
Cons: Sometimes uncomfortable, kind of small, maybe a bit of a loss of sound due to small ear size.
The Momentums clearly sound is lot better than my previous headphones. The sound is precise, accurate, tight.
Pros: 1- fashion headphones 2- clear sound 3- tight bass
Cons: earcup might little small for some people
These are nice and well constructed headphones. They are over the ear, but the ear cups are not overly generous. If you just put them on your head they will undoubtedly press on your ears. if you take a couple moments and fit you ears to the ear cups, they will fit a whole lot better and be more comfortable. The ear cups are very comfortable, and the sound is nice and balanced, not "too" in any direction. Being over the ear, they do cut some ambient sound, but are not otherwise noise reducing.
Pros: Well made and solid. Good looking. Detachable cord Comfortable leather ear cushions nice - but large - carry case.
Cons: Ear cups are towards the small side The headset needs to be put to the smallest setting to fit in the carry case, so each time you use it you need to re-fit the headphone.
Really pleased with this purchase. I looked at the Senny HD598 and the Bose QC25 and really preferred the sound of these cans. The noise isolation is good (obviously not as good as full ANC) but the actual listening experience makes up for it. I will echo what others have said in that the ear cups are a touch small. Fortunately they work over my ears but I could see them being a problem for others.
The new Sennheiser Momentum is a great pair of headphones built to last a long time. The sound quality is well balanced and straightforward. There are no unpleasant surprises lurking here. If I could change anything I think I would have designed the ear cups to be slightly larger so that they would completely cover the ear and not give the impression that they are somewhere in-between on-ear and over-ear. Both options are available with the Momentum. After using them for a while they have become my go-to headphone. Particularly adept at taking advantage of the improved sound performance from a digital-to-analog converter.
Pros: Great, balanced sound. Superior build materials. Very cool design.
Cons: Ear cups might feel a little small on over-ear model.
Excellent sound quality and constructions. The only thing I would change is more adjustability of the ear cups in the rotational plane.
Sennheiser's Momentum is vey good looking headphones, have clear accurate sound and provide excellent isolation. The Momentum's are extremely light and are comfortable even after wearing them for long periods of time. They are easily driven from a source with no distortion at high volumes. A great headphone for home, office, and listening on the move. The pivoting plug is a great addition.
Pros: sound, comfort, noise isolation, light weight
I have been Sennheiser user for years; both wired and wireless are outstanding compared to comparable models. My latest are Sennheiser's Momentum over the ears. I prefer music to be balanced across the entire spectrum as opposed to being overloaded with boomimg base, and Sennheiser delivers the goods. These are light weight, attractive and very portable in the included hard case. I am very pleased!
Pros: Balanced sound and overall quality across the entire music spectrum.
elegant styling and excellent sound -fits the bill all around.
Pros: great sound, lightweight, look good, pivoting plug
Fantastic headphones. Better sound than the B&W P5's and the Sol Republic Ultra's. I tested these against Beats Studio and there is no comparison. The bass is just right while the mid's and highs are very clear. From classical to Rap they all sound good in the Momentums. Mostly wear them to the gym they feel just fine, light and just the right amount of noise cancellation. They also look pretty cool and I like how the cord locks into the headphone.
Pros: Lightweight, stylish, good noise cancellation and unbelievable sound for the price.
Cons: Cannot fold them.
I've listened to a wide range of music and really enjoy the performance of these headphones and have no overall complaints. Very comfortable and good noise isolation without the baggage of noise cancellation. I'm very impressed at how well they work with all portable devices, particularly my iPod shuffle.
Pros: Good Sound, Comfortable, Noise Isolation, High Quality
Cons: Case is a little bulky
I am really impressed with the range of sound these headphones have. They're a must have if you're at all serious about listening to music.
Pros: Beautiful sound
Cons: Minor ear discomfort after hours of continued use, but that's probably me and not the headphones.
I love Senny headphones. This is the best you can get in the price range. I tested lots (including HiFiMan HE-400) and you have to spend about $200 more to beat this sound. They are flat to bright out of the box and breaking in for 4 days improved them. So BALANCED. No thumping bass thank you, just accurate . Bright in the high range without sounding tinny. Like sitting in the middle of the auditorium. Not the front row, not the back row. Get em, love em. Test your FLAC files with these babies. I did not want noise reduction, so these are perfect for me.
Pros: Great value. Accurate, neutral, balanced sound. Comfortable. Lightweight. Short cord, perfect for computer or portable players. Great storage case and box.
As a longtime Sennheiser fan, I am pleased to the Over the Ear Momentums. They seem to be much easier to drive than my Sennheiser HD 650 phones with my Apple Lossless music on an iPod without the necessity of an external amp. I have been using them daily for the last 3 weeks an average of 1.5 hours daily. They are comfortable, easy to adjust, and the music to me is unsurpassed except for the planar magnetic phones that can't even operate w/o a high current amp driving them. Both the midrange and the high end details are much better than my v-modas, and the entire soundstage is better than my somewhat cheaper Audio Technicas. The Momentums are night and day better than my Sennheiser MM 450, although the latter's Bluetooth wireless capability helps keep the wires away. Bottom line, the Momentum is my new #1 everyday headphone for listening to music and books while on the move.
Pros: Comfortable Durable Light enough while still being adjustable Musical through all portions of the musical spectrum
Cons: None significant
They are great. They sound great and really like them. I just wish the right cup was just slightly bigger to fit my right ear but that should not stop anybody else.
This headphones sound great. They are comfortable but after a while it hurts my ears a little. They look great. The carrying protective case is strong and of good quality. However I wish it wasn't as bulky to fit more comfortably on my backpack. It comes with 2 cables that you can plug & unplug. One cable has a pivoting tip with iphone/ipod controls and mic. Does not work well with Android however and I wish this cable was a little longer. The other cable is standard but I have not tried it yet so I'm not sure if it's longer. They are more compact than other headphones and much lighter. However they don't fold. But music wise, they sound great. Very crisp and clear with enough bass. I like them a lot.
Pros: Great sound quality Excellent build quality and style 2 Removable cables Protective carrying case Lightweight
Cons: Cable with controls could be a little longer Carrying case could be more compact Cable with control doesn't work with Android phones
Outstanding headphones. Comfortable, great build quality, excellent sound isolation, great sound!
Pros: Sound, noise isolation, comfort, looks
This is one of the best headphones I have ever owned. Very light. Very good build quality. Exceptional sound quality. Stylish. Earcups are smaller than I thought, so you may want to try it on before you buy.
"Senns," as they are called in the audiophile world, are major players in the headphone market, and I trust their quality. I have an open pair, the HD-598, which are my favorite. I also own the less pricey 239 model, which are also circumaural and open-backed. The vented (open) design allows air to escape and the sound to be more natural (not noise canceling), allowing more nuanced, ambient sound in without ever getting distortion.
I don't have the language of these technical experts that are reviewing the same headphones here, so consider my review as basic, from a lay person's viewpoint (but I am a lover of sound!). On the other hand, I am baffled that some reviewers are comparing these to the HD-598 cans. Open-back is a whole different experience, which allows outside sound to leak in. I prefer them when intensely listening to music--whether rock, jazz, or blues. These Momentums are also circumaural (covering the whole ear), but closed-back.
In my humble opinion, the Momentums should be compared--for purposes of reviewing--to others in its type. Now, I believe that open-backed are generally superior, as they are designed for subtlety and naturalness, but my review reflects my expectations of closed-back cans.
I consider my ears to be medium-sized for a woman, and these fit me perfectly. Even when I wear glasses, the fit is superb. Some of the reviewers complain that these are too small for their ears; in that case, I can understand the sound being inferior for them.

Overview: The Sennheiser Momentum headphones are stylish, high-quality over-ear headphones. They are lightweight and comfortable, with durable metal construction on the earcup and earcup sliders. The ear pads are covered in luxurious, breathable leather. The Momentum headphones give you high-performance audio reproduction with rich, detailed sound. The Momentum comes with a semi-hard zippered storage case.
Design: The Momentum has a closed-back, circumaural design which isolates much of the background noise. The headphones are equipped with high-performance neodymium magnets. The impedance is lowered to 18 so it will play portable devices at high volumes without overdriving the device's tiny amp.
Included Cables: The Momentum headphones are equipped with two exchangeable audio cables, both with 3.5mm plugs. One cable is 53" long and has an in-line remote and microphone. The 3.5mm plug is hinged, allowing you to convert it from a straight plug to a right-angle plug. The other is 58" long without a remote and with a straight plug. The cables connect to the left earcup via a 2.5mm sub-mini plug that twist-locks in place to prevent accidental disconnection. The included 3.5mm-to-1/4" plug adapter can be used with either cable.
Smart Remote: The 3-button Smart Remote lets you control your iPod, iPhone, iPad, and recent versions of Macbooks. The outer buttons control volume up and volume down.
