If the crystal-clear sound and wireless capabilities of Sennheiser's RS 220 headphones are just beyond your budget, check out the factory refurbished version. Carefully refurbished and tested by Sennheiser, these headphones will deliver the same great performance as a new pair of RS 220s. They're even backed by the same two-year warranty that is standard with all Sennheiser headphones, so you can be confident they'll meet their stringent quality standards.
Wireless used to mean compromised sound. Not anymore. Thanks to powerful advancements in wireless technology, the experts at Sennheiser have created audiophile-quality headphones certain to please even the most demanding listener without the hassle of wires. Based on the legendary sound of Sennheiser's own HD 600 and HD 650 designs, the RS 220 wireless headphones will deliver your tunes with the kind of clarity that used to be available only with wired models. Their advanced drivers and open-air design help eliminate distortion, allowing these 'phones to fully reproduce the dynamics and details of your music. And plush velour earcups gently surround your ears, letting you enjoy extended listening sessions in total comfort even if you wear glasses.
The RS 220 uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology to deliver uncompressed, interference-free stereo sound. DSSS works by sequentially spreading and transmitting the digital audio signal over a wide frequency band. If interference occurs at one point within this range, data is automatically shifted to a different frequency, maintaining full CD-quality sound. Multi-receiver mode allows two people using Sennheiser DSSS headphones to listen to the same audio source, so you can easily share music, movies, or TV shows with a friend or family member.
The transmitter base keeps the RS 220 headphones charged up and ready to go. It also doubles as a docking station, so you'll never forget where you put them. Optical and coaxial digital audio inputs, plus a pair of analog RCA jacks, provide versatile connections for your audio/video gear. Each input also includes a duplicate output, allowing you to daisy chain the RS 220's base station with other components in your system. Tactile buttons on the headphones make it easy to adjust volume and balance for perfect sound levels. Plus, you can select your playback sources right from the headphones. That means when it's time to switch music sources or watch TV, you don't even have to get up.
great pair of headphones for the price, and refurbished version works. easy charging mechanism; three suggestions: 1. the optical output does not work from base column to new onkyo; wish I had been told this and would have bought a more expensive onkyo. 2. must add hdmi jack to the column; this will put your product ahead of the curve. 3. the bass is good enough, but you need more if you are going to compete with the blue tooth product headphones. A certain famous person's headphones explode your head with bass on low, and this is what you need if you are going to listen to rock [klau vollmer], classic jazz [ron carter], or hiphop [2 chains]
Love the open back. Reminds me of the HD 600's. The range is limited but experience zero dropouts when in the same room. A shame that they cannot handle dolby or DTS. Luckily my TV will decode Dolby or DTS to stereo PCM, which the base will accept.
These are Sennheiser's flagship headphone and everything about them is top notch. They are comfortable, well made, easy to use, and the base is attractive and flexible to set up. The one problem with them that absolutely RUINS them is that the transmitter cuts out & pops/hisses about every 20-30s. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not being picky about a little hiccup or slight sound imperfection; I'm saying that every 30 seconds, the sound just turns off for 1 second. It then comes back on loud and tapers back to normal. This then repeats after another 30 seconds. It's so distracting that I can't enjoy them at all. For a product at this price, this is unacceptable.
I ended up trading down to the RS-180s and have been very happy. While the build quality and button layout is a little worse, I have had none of the audio issues with the RS-180s
Pros: Best wireless headphones on the market when they work. But... see the cons
Cons: Transmitter is garbage and Sennheiser won't acknowledge it (despite literally HUNDREDS of customers having this same experience)! Avoid this model until it gets updated or check out the RS-180s
Phones exceeded my expectations for refurbished unit in all attributes. I would recommend this product for anyone that wants both quality and comfort.
Pros: Everything about this unit including price.
Cons: A minor point, but a HDMI connection would be a nice feature to add to this unit.
The sound is consistently great quality. well built and lots of connectivity options
Pros: The sound is consistently great quality. well built and lots of connectivity options
Cons: none so far
Very good sound however one should be aware that the headphones will not work with Dolby sound. Therefore any movies from Netflix will not have sound. I missed this drawback when ordering and am sorry I did. If you were just using as a hi-fi listening device these would be great as the sound is very good. Range within the same room is very good but as with any unit will diminish when moving around and/or introducing walls into the equation. These are not meant for noise reduction and therefore the 1 star rating is not a negative.
Pros: Light weight for over the ear. Good sound and bass
Cons: Not compatable with DTS and Dolby sound
These are great headphones with a few bugs. I was under the impression that I would get the entire warrantee that is offered by Sennheiser on new items but that is not the case. You get a limited warrantee that is quite different than two years. The sound they provide is excellent as far as that goes and they are designed on the Sennheiser HD 600's. You have several was to input items as far as sound goes but they will not accept any types of 5.1 or other surround sound formats. If you don't have a way to code your optical or coaxial digital output from your device into PCM they will not accept that input. They are radio frequency instead of IR so you do not need to be perfectly aligned or have people walk in front of you. They do have the occasional drop offs but the 2.4 ghz is very crowded frequency.
Pros: Good sound, you can hear others as they talk to you or if your phone rings. Several ways to input sounds.
Cons: Should have been shipped in the actual box not just wrapped in plastic and with a lousy warrantee. Make sure you buy an additional one. If I knew of all these little issues, I would have purchased the actual new item, not refurbished.Crutchfield response on November 4, 2013 Thanks for your review. Some units were incorrectly packed with a statement of a 90-day warranty. However, this model does come with the full 2-year warranty when purchased from Crutchfield.
Having moved into an apartment, I wanted headphones for listening to CDs and DVDs and watching TV, so as not to disturb neighbors, especially late at night. The goal was a product with excellent quality sound that would act as a replacement for my previous sound surround system, and phones that could access Netflix, etc. from my smart HDTV. As well, wireless phones were a must, and so was comfort and ease of use for my wife and myself. After researching many wireless phones, I found that the Sennheiser RS 220's were the only ones with the necessary digital (coax and optical) audio inputs for accessing streamed material from the internet. They also have digital outputs which pass the audio to a connected unit such as a receiver. As a result, we now enjoy many movies from Netflix, as well as broadcast HDTV, with exciting, full quality audio. I must add that the audio from some Netflix movies is not available, a situation that may have something to do with the movie's soundtrack process. At any rate, those many films with receivable audio offer what I had previously with my 5.1 surround system, if in fact they were produced that way. It does, of course, depend on the source. I also listen, critically, to classical music from my Blu-ray player, and I am totally happy with the quality of sound the Sennheiser's give me. Of course it depends, again, on the source, but I hear the richness of the symphony orchestra's wonderful sound.
Pros: This is a quality product, and we are very satisfied. It has met our goals.
I was very surprised at the lack of quality for the price. The RS220 lacks base and volume. I was also disappointed with the range they have. I have an old set of wireless headphones by Advent and the volume and base is greater than the RS220. The reason I purchased the RS220's was the Advent ear pads were worn out and I couldn't replace them. I should have tried to repurchase the Advent wireless, especially considering the price difference. These are also far from being noise canceling. In reverse, everyone around you can hear what you're listening to.
Pros: Rich in sound
Cons: Lacks base/volume/range. Also cuts out periodically. I'm not sure if any of the negative aspects are because I purchased refurbished, but I doubt it.
Wish the code interpretation was newer. It does not do DTS. Only does Dolby.
Cons: Does not do DTS. Handshaking is occasionally confused.
I was looking for a pair of well-made Bluetooth headphones when I came across the Sennheiser RS220. These phones are perfect. They match effortlessly with my Bluetooth devices and the sound quality is solid. The headphone base and stand is a wonderful added feature that keeps the headphone readily available and always charged.
Pros: Great distance reception and comfort.
Cons: Adequate noise reduction.
They sound great and they are very comfortable to wear. The price was fantastic.
Pros: Great sound and comfortable
This set is great. Perfect for late night listening to not disturb the sleepers. It has an effective range of over 40 feet and that includes through walls as well as upstairs and basement. Great for listening to the game while waxing your car outside too!
Pros: Sound clarity, lightness
Cons: Recharging of included batteries takes a while
Having bought and returned wireless headphones in the past, I finally found a set I will keep. There is virtually faithful reproduction of music in all frequency ranges. It also has near zero latency, so there is virtually no delay.when using these headphones to listen to music you are playing/recording on a musical instrument (my main reason for purchasing). Take the headphones off the docking charging station, touch the on switches on both the station and the headset, and you are ready to listen. It has three input modes (one analog ond two digital) and even an output jack if you want to chain. On the head set are on/off, volume, balance and input selection, all remembering your last setting. Set the headset back on the dock and it charges automatically, as well as turning everything off automatically. Very comfortable to wear - lightweight (less than a pound) and couldn't be designed any better. You may wonder why these are so expensive. Don't. Just buy them. I rate these an A.
Pros: Virtually perfect sound reproduction with virtually no delay. All automatic operation. Three input modes. Very very comfortable and lightweight.
Cons: Be careful not to hit the input button when taking off the headset!!

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Sennheiser headphones can be used with a Samsung 43 inch plasma as long as the plasma television has an audio output. The headphones have a analog stereo RCA input, coaxial digital input, and an optical digital input so as long as the television has one of those audio outputs, they will work.
