About the Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless

David Brown

Street-ready headphones

"Street-ready" is a term you'd expect to refer to a motor vehicle. But it's a great way to describe the Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless headphones. No, you can't drive them. But these headphones offer a bunch of features that make them ideal for the urban landscape. They connect wirelessly to your smartphone via Bluetooth, so you won't be slowed down by dangling cords. Their sound is powerful, with a heavy dose of deep bass that's perfect for cutting through background noise. They're extremely comfortable, so you can wear them for long periods. And they're durable, with an ultra-flexible headband that's not going to crack under pressure. Sounds street-ready to me.

No wires needed: the Urbanite XL Wireless headphones connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Touch-panel earcup keeps you in control

You won't find any earcup buttons for controlling the Urbanite XL Wireless. Instead, you can take calls and control music just by tapping and swiping on the right earcup. Just tap the earcup to play a song or answer a call. Want to adjust the volume? Imagine there's a giant volume fader on the earcup. Slide your finger slowly up and down and dial in the volume to your liking. The built-in battery provides up to 25 hours of listening and recharges via USB. A cable is included in case your battery runs down — it even has an in-line remote and microphone so you can still make hands-free calls.

Comfortable, over-ear fit

The "XL" in Urbanite XL refers to the large earcups that fit completely over your ears. This design not only allows for larger drivers capable of delivering more detailed sound, but it also offers a luxuriously comfortable fit. The headband is as flexible as almost any we've ever seen, so it's durable without squeezing your skull into submission. There's another benefit to the glove-like fit of these headphones: they do a great job of blocking out external noise. The closed-back design of the XL earcups offers excellent noise isolation without any electronic noise cancellation. When you're not listening, the folding design makes them compact enough to keep in your bag so you can keep them handy.

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser Urbanite XL Over-ear Bluetooth headphones are stylish, high-quality headphones. Larger than the Urbanite on-ear headphones, the Urbanite XLs are lightweight and comfortable, with durable stainless steel hinges and aluminum sliders. They're made for people on the go, and can withstand rough treatment from everyday use. When not in use, you can fold your Urbanite XL headphones and store them in the included soft cloth storage pouch.

Design: The Urbanite XL Over-ear headphone has a closed-back, circum-aural (over-ear) design which isolates much of the background noise. The low 18-ohm impedance allow the headphones to play portable devices at high volumes without overdriving the device's tiny amp.

Bluetooth: Built-in Bluetooth 4.0 technology allows you to wirelessly listen to your music or phone calls. With compatible Near-Field Communications (NFC) devices, Bluetooth pairing is as easy as touching the device to the left ear cup. Up to 8 different devices can be paired to, including 2 devices simultaneously. The headphones have a wireless range of approximately 33 feet (10 meters). Supported codecs include aptX and SBC.

Touch-sensitive Panel: The right ear cup features a state-of-the-art intuitive touch-sensitive control panel. Sliding a finger in an up and down motion adjusts the volume. Call and music functions can be controlled by tapping or touching the panel.

Included Cable: The Urbanite XL Wireless Over-ear headphones are equipped with a 47" audio cable with a right-angled 3.5mm plug. The in-line Smart Remote has a slider for controlling the volume, and a single button for controlling the call and music functions. The cable connects to the left earcup via a 2.5mm sub-mini plug that twist-locks in place to prevent accidental disconnection.

Rechargeable Battery: The headphones are powered by a Lithium-Polymer rechargeable battery with a battery life of up to 25 hours talk time or music playback, or 15 days standby. You can charge the battery with the included USB cable at many USB charging ports, including computers, AC-USB adapters, and 12-volt mobile USB adapters.

Customer Q&A

Q
Has anyone ever used these headphones at the gym? I know earbuds are more ideal, but I may take these from time to time to do my workouts. Please advise, thank you.

These headphones are not that great for workouts. Especially if you're doing a lot of cardio. They are really bulky and heavy.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: These headphones are very comfortable and the quality of the sound is amazing . too big for working out? I guess that all depends on your activities .(fast aerobics might not be the best . stationary bike sure!) If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
