Voice-activated navigation and Bluetooth® means safer driving

Garmin's nüvi 2597LMT portable navigator gives you the confidence to travel to and within unfamiliar locales, with spot-on guidance that won't waste your time or gas. And even if you're just using it to run errands or commute to work, you'll still find its ability to find shorter routes tremendously beneficial. If you're safety conscious, the nüvi 2597LMT features voice-activated navigation that recognizes your speech, so you can keep your hands on the wheel. And Bluetooth connectivity not only lets you enjoy hands-free calling with your compatible phone, but you can also wirelessly connect to Garmin's free app for Android™ phones to get valuable real-time info the navigator can't provide.

Hands-free control

Voice-activated navigation is quite simple: with one spoken command, you can "wake up" the navigator to respond to your voice. You can then search through menus on the 5" screen, then input addresses and destinations without touching the screen. The Garmin will respond to your words intelligently. Built-in Bluetooth lets you sync your compatible phone to the navigator for hands-free conversations you carry through the nüvi's integrated microphone and speaker.

Android phone users can download Garmin's free Smartphone Link app to their device and connect to the nüvi 2597LMT. When paired, the navigator can use your phone's existing data plan to share information such as saved and recently found locations, where you parked, and your current destination. You can then use your phone to give you step-by-step directions back to your car in a large parking lot, for example, or import destinations to your navigator from your phone. You can also launch Garmin Live Services from the app, which give you local weather reports, live traffic updates, real-time photos from traffic cameras, area gas prices, and nearby parking help. Some Garmin Live Services require a subscription. Data charges may apply for using Smartphone Link — you'll want to check with your service provider.

Hear things clearly

The nüvi 2597LMT offers Garmin Real Directions with Garmin Real Voice, a combination that helps keep you relaxed as you drive. Real Directions voice prompts speak the instructions to you like a friend would, using easy-to-see landmarks, buildings and businesses, and traffic lights, rather than streets with tiny signs that you might not see in time. With Real Voice technology, you'll hear directions spoken in a personable, human-sounding voice that you'll easily understand.

Garmin nuvi 2597LMT portable navigator

Eye-catching 5" screen

The nüvi 2597LMT's 5" touch display makes it easy to follow along, and you can view its maps in either portrait or landscape orientation. You'll have access to preloaded maps of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and several Caribbean islands, along with millions of points of interest; you can even add your own favorite stopping points. You can find and select businesses right on the map screen without having to go through time-wasting menus. Speed limit displays with visual warnings on major roads help keep you in check, and you'll even be notified of school zones. And with one tap of the screen, you can pull up details for services that lie ahead on your route, including restaurants, gas stations, and more. You also get free updates on traffic along your route and quick solutions for avoiding delays, as well as up to four free map updates per year to keep you updated on road changes.

Stay on course

Garmin incorporates several helpful visual tools to keep you on the correct path:

  • Active Lane Guidance shows you colored arrows for the correct lane for an upcoming turn.

  • photoReal junction view displays realistic images of intersections, including signs and surrounding terrain, along with colored arrows for the correct lane.

Garmin Traffic

The nüvi 2597LMT features free lifetime traffic updates using Garmin's Traffic service, which is more expansive and timely than ever. Garmin Traffic incorporates data from active devices on the road, historical traffic patterns, and other factors like construction, concerts, and sporting events to give you a comprehensive look at congestion in most metropolitan areas, including a few cities in Canada. Garmin Traffic is also voice activated, so it can respond to the sound of your spoken words. Best of all, you won't have to pay a penny more for this service over the life of your nüvi.

The free POI Loader software can be downloaded from the Garmin website to assist you in creating Custom POIs.

Active Lane Guidance: Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts lets you know in advance which lane you should to be in to make an upcoming turn. In select metropolitan areas, the nüvi 2597LMT will enter split screen mode to display the photoReal junction view, a realistic depiction of the junction, complete with road signs and brightly-colored arrows to indicate the proper lane for navigation. The Bird's Eye view also gives you a top-down view of upcoming interchanges.

Map View Options: You can choose from a 3D map view or two 2D map views (Track Up or North Up) as you navigate to your destination.

Speed Limits: As you travel along a major road or street, the speed limit is displayed on the screen alongside of the vehicle's speed display. If you are exceeding the speed limit, the color of the vehicle speed indication changes to red. If the highway's posted speed limit has changed since the last map update, you can change the speed limit display on the unit.

Where Am I?: The "Where Am I?" feature gives you instant access to important information in case of an emergency. When you touch the vehicle icon on the map screen, the "Where Am I?" feature provides the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and roadside assistance. You can also save the location for future reference.

Up Ahead: As you travel along your route, the Up Ahead feature constantly indicates the location of nearby businesses, including gas, food, lodging, restrooms, parking, and banks and ATMs. The locations are shown as icons, some with brand logos, and when the icons are touched on the screen, details of the services are displayed, and you are given the opportunity to navigate to that address.

Garmin Locate: To assist you in finding your parked vehicle, the Garmin Locate feature saves your location to memory when you remove the device from the windshield mounting cradle while the device is on. You can search for your vehicle's location using the Last Spot button in the menu.

Destination Search: When the Where To? button is pressed, you can use the search tools to find your destination and plan your route. The search tools allow you to search for cities, addresses, intersections, or coordinates. The new Search Bar lets you directly enter a category, brand name, address, or city name. The unit's memory stores the last 50 locations you have found so you can quickly find a previous destination.

Garmin Garage: The unit offers your choice of eight standard icons to represent your vehicle. The online Garmin Garage offers dozens more vehicle icons that you can download for free. In addition, you can purchase icon and voice bundles with Star Wars (Yoda, Darth Vader), Sesame Street (Oscar, Cookie Monster, Ernie & Bert), and The Simpsons (Homer and Marge) themes.

trafficTrends: When the trafficTrends feature is enabled, the nüvi 2597LMT automatically records historic traffic data and uses that data to calculate more efficient routes. This information is sent to Garmin when you connect your device to myGarmin (your personal account site on the Garmin website) using your computer. Different routes may be calculated based on traffic trends for the day of the week or the time of day.

myTrends: In addition to the trafficTrends feature, myTrends also takes into account your personal driving habits and anticipates your route when calculating your ETA to your frequent destinations.

Trip Planner: You can create and save a trip with multiple destinations using the Trip Planner. Once you have entered your destinations, you can manually set them in the order of your preference, or allow the device to calculate the most efficient route. Trip itineraries can be saved in memory for future use.

Trip Computer: The trip information page displays your current speed and direction, and provides helpful statistics about your trip. Dual trip odometers keep up with your total mileage. The page also indicates the distance and driving time to your next maneuver, as well as the distance and driving time to your destination. Your maximum speed and moving average speed are also displayed. The information can be reset in advance of your next trip.

Where I've Been/Trip Log: The Where I've Been application allows you to view your previous routes and places you have stopped on the map. In addition, the device keeps a Trip Log, which is a record of the path you have traveled. The Travel History setting must be enabled in order for the Where I've Been and Trip Log features to function.

GPS Simulator: When indoors, you can activate the built-in GPS simulator and practice using the unit. This turns off the GPS receiver so it's not searching for satellites, saving battery power.

ecoRoute: The optional ecoRoute feature calculates the fuel economy and the fuel price of navigating to a destination, and offers tools for improving fuel efficiency. The ecoRoute application can be purchased from the Garmin Online Store.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great! Easy to use.

Seems to work well

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased this so I cannot speak to a variety of situations, but it appears to work well. I like the junction guide since I have been frustrated in the past about how my GPS read those areas. It has a lot of information. So I think i have to go into the settings and turn some stuff off. I was surprised when it gave me an alert that I was in a school zone. This is really awesome.

Pros: Good size, easy to read, seems to find the satellite in a reasonable amount of time.

Cons: A lot of information going on, but I may be able to adjust settings

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very satisfied with Garmin purchase, first time GPS owner, don't know why I waited so long.

Pros: Very good guidance and voice recognition could be a lifesaver.

Cons: Takes a little while to sync your voice with unit, can be difficult to see in high light conditions. Hopefully there is an adjustment for this.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit retains the great features of my previous Garmin and adds many new ones. The voice command works well keeping your hands on the steering wheel. Really like how the unit displays the speed limit of the road you're on, especially in unfamiliar areas...though accuracy is sometimes an issue. Also like the trip planner; allows you to set-up your entire route prior to Departure. With lifetime maps and traffic I won't need a new GPS for a while. Overall a great unit.

Pros: Voice Command Active Lane Guidance Trip Planner

Cons: Accuracy of displayed speed limits

Needs the old zoom algorithm

Written By Dave, Greenville, SC on Monday, July 07, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Zoom in when approaching an intersection or turn is terrible compared to my old Nuvi 255. No ability to keep unit zoomed, either. It will zoom back out above a certain vehicle speed. This alone ruins an otherwise excellent unit that is packed with features.

Pros: Traffic info, lifetime map updates.

Cons: Zoom algorithm needs work. Need more user settings flexibility that addresses zoom settings.

Voice command handy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like the voice command, but way too often it can't figure out what I am saying, really way off the mark. Otherwise it works well, I would like to put my city in when I put in an address, we are very rural and It has trouble finding some of the more remote ones. It is new and perhaps I just haven't figured out how to get around some of the limitations yet.

Pros: voice command,

Beats my wife's 2013 factory unit in her ATS, and of course cost me much more money. My Garmin canbe moved from my 1949 Chevy PU to my 1972 Monte Carlo and run circles around hers. The telephone blue tooth works great, the GPS miles per hour is a very good check on the OEM speedometer of course. Love it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

4.5 Stars! I really like the unit and the features! This is my first GPS unit - it is easy to use, with powerful features. Voice commands are a little awkward at first, as the unit does not always catch what I am saying, but offers good substitutes. Definitely recommend this product (which has received excellent reviews from another consumer purchasing agency. Crutchfield service always outstanding!!!

Pros: Lifetime maps, voice activation, traffic; ease of use - covers all of N. America

Cons: Voice recognition is easy to use, which is good, but I need to learn how to use the unit a bit better as it does not always clearly catch what I am requesting; unsure if I this my speech pattern/intonation or if this is unit limitation. This concern is minimal; I still highly recommend this GPS!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with unit. Do wish it would display more than 2 choices for routes to destination. In areas I know well it will sometimes chose a route that is fractionally shorter than another route and yet if given the choice I would chose the slightly longer route due to less traffic or turns etc. You can set the unit up so that your route preference is time or shorter distance or less fuel. it just would be nice to be able to compare more than the two choices within your preference that the unit offers up. My only other comment and I've seen others mention it as well and that is downloading an update from Garmin is an experience that most folks if given the choice would rather endure a root canal. Simply awful.

Pros: works well / easy to use / and works great as a bluetooth speaker phone.

Cons: updating your software and maps takes way too long

Greatly Enhanced Garmin GPS

Written By Peter the Pilot, Ocala, FL on Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This GPS has proven to be a great improvement over my ca seven year old Garmin which finally died. The voice command function works very well. The Bluetooth allows me to send addresses from my 3000 person contact list on my Android Samsung Note II over to the Garmin for navigation. I am very pleased.

Pros: All the features you'd ever want work well. Especially like the voice command.

Cons: Screen display could be sharper. Expect to take several hours for updates when you connect online.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent product. As anticipated maps had to be updated before use but easy to do. Have found a few incorrect speed limits on various roads but generally about 98% accurate. The school zone alert is a new system that I find very helpful in unfamiliar areas. Traffic alerts seem to work well. The 'altitude of location' is also a new and nice feature. Instruction manual is okay as far as setup but not good on details of setting up some of the other features such as setting device for shortest route or fastest route (not necessarily the same). However system is fairly intuitive and work with a little experimentation. Overall, very pleased with purchase.

Pros: Easy to update maps and to setup. school zone alert Altitude of location Lot of info onscreen

Cons: Instruction manual Volume control a little more complicated than previous model

We bought this GPS for a member of our family who needed help with processing information and following directions while driving. The landmark feature has been a big help to them, as well as the slightly larger screen. Thanks!

Pros: Nice screen size, real voice with landmarks is a big help.

Happy with the product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very happy with the performance of this product. I like the lane guidance that pops up at appropriate times. I found one freeway interchange where the map was off (not a problem with the hardware). Traffic reports are unobtrusive and reasonably accurate, but I haven't found the right way to make use of the new information.

Pros: Lane guidance is a big help. Voice commands work well. The mount is easy to use.

Cons: Touch screen, though resposive, is out of date in this era of glass.

Garmin Nuvi 2597 LMT

Written By Packardite, Placerville, CA on Saturday, October 12, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with the performance of this model of Garmin GPS. We purchased the item just prior to driving back to Alabama, and it worked well and performed all the tasks we were looking for. We had an older model of Garmin and thought it was a good time to upgrade. Even though this model offered a lot of options, it was easy to learn what to do. Item was shipped promptly. And, it's the first time in many years, that we received a hand-written note from Crutchfield thanking us for the purchase....now, that's what I really call customer service.

Pros: Like the split screen when taking an off-ramp; the ability to bring up "what's ahead" insofar as gas stations, restaurants, etc., was great...really liked that it also provided addresses for those items. Really like being able to find out where you are by simply touching the car on the screen.

Cons: None

I found the way you can send locations from mobile google maps to garmin thru smartphone link. lately mobile google maps has been sending wrong locations to garmins thru smartphone link like 1000's miles away since garmin doesn't take addresses just cordinates. First find the location in mobile google maps them try to zoom in the location you want to send it garmin. Then press and hold on the very next to location red icon for one or two second and you will get new red icon very next to your location on google maps. Then same as usual just tap on the new red icon then you will get few options and tap on share and choose smartphone link.

Garmin 2597LMT Review

Written By Hank, Wisconsin on Monday, October 07, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked up the Gramin 2597 LMT because of issues always having tower reception with my phone to rely on Google Maps. I will say that right out of the box the unit needs to be updated which is pretty standard. As other reviews indicated this can take some time. A strong internet connection is very beneficial, but the process is not always smooth so give yourself a day to monitor and restart if needed. The out of box power cord with traffic antenna was plenty long for multiple mounting options and the included windshield mount worked without issue. I would suggest practicing how the unit connects and disconnects prior to attaching the mount to the windshield. The unit quickly acquires satellites in most parts of the North Central U.S. as well as parts of Canada. The screen size, voice quality, volume, etc. were all sufficient as was the data base for most restaurants, hotels, and other POI. I will say that I'm not sure if the speedometer on my car is off or if the GPS speed is a little high, but the GPS always had me about 2MPH faster than my car. I found it nice that when traveling in Canada the GPS remained in English units (this can be changed in the settings), but did conversations/adjustments automatically for speed limits and distances based on the standard Metric System for the country. Saving POIs/favorites from Google Maps to the Garmin saves a lot of time and tough detail entry on the unit itself. I suggest having a paper map or doing a Google review of trips.

Pros: Good display size, color, picture quality. Solid mounting system and power cable length. Generally accurate location information. Ability to add favorites/address from your computer is awesome and big time saver. Speed of satellite acquisition is solid. Voice commands are clear and generally given with good timing. Unit is fairly easy to work with and navigate, but downloading full manual from Garmin website should be a requirement.

Cons: Long setup (especially if internet connection is slow). Routes are not always 100% best options so do your own research. Unit can be slow to provide information so you can not rely 100% on unit for voice commands to catch up. Full manual is not included with unit. I now question the accuracy of the speed measurements on the GPS vs. my car speedometer.

Nobody's perfect...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's very good device for quite reasonable price, has tons of useful features and options. Still, it has some glitches. Once, when we were going home at night, it showed on the screen the road to follow, but no street name, and no voice prompts. It showed the turn to take, still no voice prompts. And only after we took a ramp, as instructed by the screen, the name of the next street to take was shown, and voice prompts started. Besides, when we approach the ramps, screen splits and device shows very clearly which lane to take, which is very useful; however it happens on some ramps, but not all of them. In general, I'm happy with it, a lot of improvements comparing to my old GPS unit.

Pros: Accurate, shows street names, recalculates fast, unlimited map updates at no additional cost

Cons: see review

GPS Required 2597lmt

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had one of the first GPS, Magellan I got in 2007. It died & I NEEDED new one. Went online to research & decided on Garmin 2597lmt. I am SOOOO HAPPY I chose this one. I didn't want Magellan as w old one it took forever to recalculate & in researching, it doesn't sound like they've fixed that yet. Tom Tom reviews seemed to send u to wrong side of streets. I've had this for about a month, it gets me exactly where I want to go, recalculated in seconds. One thing took a lil getting used to, my Magellan made dinging noise when I was supposed to turn but this tells you right out, make 2nd left or turn right at light. Still trying to figure out traffic as didn't have it on prior GPS. Only con really was amount of time to do initial updates, it took over 6 hrs & crapped out at 92% done of maps but I just hit to redo updates & it took maybe another 40 minutes. Suggest you start download when u wake in morn on weekend. Other than download, I absolutely LOVE this compact unit.

Pros: Quick recalculations, tells u exactly where to turn, great timing, lane views

Cons: Slow downloads of updates, paid extra for dash mount, wish it came w dash mount as well as a case

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Directions and maps are great as expected from Garmin the display as others have noted is sort of cheap and doesn't have the fast feed back of the higher end glass displays. This system would be great if it had the higher end touch screen

Pros: All the features of the more expensive models but for much cheaper price

Cons: not a glass display leaving graphics muddled and touch sensitivity slightly lacking

Garmin nüvi® 2597LMT

Very sleek design. New mounting unit is more secure but will take a few tries to "learn" how attach and mount from driver's seat. Uploading maps takes too long so like other reviews, do it at night when going to bed. Voices and volume can be adjusted like other units but this unit can be louder especially when you have windows down. Good turn- by- turn and accurate in giving directions. Voice command is fair. Need to almost shout at the unit or repeat command twice when using normal voice. This unit will not have "dashboard" where you can customize compass, total mileage, and other features. However, in its place is showing the road, street, etc you are driving on which is a nice addition.

Pros: sleek design, voice command, more secure mounting, give names of street, road, etc in which you are on.

Cons: much too long to upload maps, no "dashboard" feature.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Garmin 2597LMT has performed up to my expectations. Maps were loaded easily along with manual. I haven't had a chance to use all its capabilities but has performed perfectly for those I have accessed. Will be driving to Newfoundland soon which will test its Canadian Map directions. Voice command option saves time vs. putting in location by hand. Very Satisfied to date.

Pros: 1. Ease of use. 2. Accurate directions. 3. Quickly updates when I venture off course. 4. Bluetooth compatiability worth the extra cost. 5. Voice command proves to be time saving.6. Lifetime maps will prove valuable over time

Cons: Not thrilled with suction mount. Spent extra for a custom BMW mount that fits in dash.

Very Helpful!

Really pleased with this product. Haven't had a single issue with it yet. Really like using it with the Garmin smartphone app. Great value and the Bluetooth upgrade from the other models is worth the extra $20.

Pros: Bluetooth that syncs with smartphone app. Great display. Accurate directions and traffic info

Cons: Searching for locations is very spelling sensitive if you aren't using the mobile app (which searches through Google instead of the GPS internal database). I wish that I could control the Garmin's in call volume via my phone when they are synced via Bluetooth.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice upgrade; this is my 4th Garmin Nuvi; each new purchase has brought a nice improvement. The directions are announced well in advance. This eliminates the sudden re-directs that would occur with some older versions. The screen is large and displays the details nicely. I'm very happy with my new Nuvi. Actually, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Pros: Improved screen shots of suggested travel lanes; eliminated the annoying recalculating announcement whenever the driver deviated from the suggested course;

Cons: Doesn't keep the charge as long as i'd like.

I have had Garmin products before so decided to stay with a reputable brand name. I am glad I did. The Garmin nüvi® 2597LMT is working great and does everything I need and more. I will be upgrading with the ecoRoute since I am used to having it on my older Garmin GPS. Great unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just had this unit for a couple of weeks but I am very pleased. It performs just as I expected. The only complaint I have is with the volume. When its turned up loud enough for a phone call, it way too loud for nav functions. Purchased the "friction" mount (weighted bag with friction material) and that works very very well.

Pros: Perfect size. Split screen. Quick to recalculate.

Cons: Volume difference in different functions.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have never had Nav. system before: as a first unit it is simple to get started, and simple to use. First download takes several hours, so I would recommend started it just as you go to bed. GPS and mapping (after a month and almost 5000 miles) has been very accurate; checking it out on known routes for a couple months before taking it on road trip. Screen size is good, graphics are great, voice functions work well (better than most voice function systems I have), screen layout is clean and clear - I really like this unit.

Pros: I have found mapping and graphics to be very accurate. Ability to customize graphics and settings is above average. Unit is simple to use and generally intuitive. There are plenty of options and functions to keep you happy. Ability to monitor system functions as well as to upgrade unit is above average; i.e. lots of "gismos."

Cons: First down load does take a couple (a few) hours; just start it before you go to bed, or leave for the evening - times of course all depend on internet speeds; it is worth the wait.

A very nice quality product which so far seems to do what it is supposed to do. The only thing I didn't like was the mounting base was bigger than it needs to be.

Pros: Compact, accurate, clear picture.

Cons: Mounting base seems to be a lot bigger than necessary

Excellent GPS system with great features that can be supplemented with the smart-phone link. Touch screens are very responsive and the voice commands appear to be working well and are easy to adapt to. The hands-free telephone, messaging, etc. are very helpful in keeping driving as the fundamental reason to be in the car! My second Garmin. The first is still working well and has been moved to our other car!

Pros: Easy to use Lots of very useful features Hands -free telephone with good sound Clear screen that is easy to see from a wide angle Can move easily and quickly through menus and feature sub-menus Easy to customize features to personal requirements Smart Phone link addds more features and data availabilty

Cons: None noticed as yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This replaced my 265 that died after 6 years. 1 - 10 Ratings Display 7 : the screen is mushy, matte like. Would have preferred glass. Speakerphone 4 : callers can not hear me well. Wish there was a jack for external microphone. Voice command 9 : works great on most streets. No more typing.Easier for using while driving. Maps : 8 : Roads missing are 2 years old after online update.Online update is clunky. Traffic 10 : Hey it works and its free. May even buy the added traffic features Weather : it gives the forecast.I use my phone for weather anyway. POI 10 : Can find POI's with voice command. Some businesses show that have been closed for at least 2 years. But still great feature.Phone number comes up with map,so call first.

Pros: Large screen, Voice commands, Traffic, POI

Cons: Speakerphone , Display,

Hey Douglas. If you haven't already enjoyed your purchase you soon will. In regard to whether or not the 2597 works with an iPhone, here is what I have found. I had the bluetooth on on my iPhone 5C and noticed when I had a call the call was sent through on the speaker on the 2597. Kinda freaked me out since I hadn't planned this operation. I did sync my iPhone with the 2597 so it automatically picked up on the connection. Other than that, I don't know much more. Sometimes I can get overwhelmed with all this technology nowadays. Hope this helps. Have a great time with your Garmin product. [ RICH  Mar 17, 2014 ]
The Garmin 2597 is compatible with both style of smart phones. It is blue tooth . [ GEORGE  Mar 17, 2014 ]
Yes Douglas it will work with an I phone Pairing the two devices was almost done by themselves the phone once it pairs with the GPS will ask you to go to the app store and download smart Link from Garmin This GPS can also be used internationally if you purchase the City Navigator Europe NT I highly recommend Crutchfield for purchasing anything that sell I have had great success with this company [ HOWARD  Mar 17, 2014 ]

The ability to retain factory Bluetooth with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have.
