Q
What camera do I need to add backup to my Garmin Nuvi? Do I need the 12 volt plug in or will it get power from the car lights?
sheldon  Aug 13, 2016

A
The camera gets its power from the reverse lights. This way when you put your car into reverse the camera automatically shows up on your screen.
john  Aug 16, 2016

YOUR STANDARD BC 30 IS JUST AN ADDITIONAL BACKUP CAMERA. Your NUVI will not work without replacing and upgrading the power zupply cord receiver for the NUVI unit. I just puchased the supply cord/receiver and camera for around 150.00+- for the system. This upgrade allows your NUVUto detect camera signal and provide real time data info for gour GPS through use of the receiver cord. Your camera power should be connected in line with your backup lights to actuate camera when backing. Otherwise if wired hot all the time, it will constantly send signal to NUVI receiver and GPS wont function properly.

the camera will get power from the backup light. but you need a new power adaptor for the gps to receive the signal from the backup camera

When I bought my Garman camera a year or so ago, they had two camera models. Each model has a different 12 V power plug in for its camera. The plug-in has something special on the cord which allows transmission from the camera to the Garman screen. I'm not sure if all Garman nüvi's work with a camera. Check the nuvi model four camera compatibility.
nancy  Aug 13, 2016
A
You want to use the power from the reverse light because you need the camera to operate only when you are going in reverse. The issue is that you will probably need a relay installed too to support the camera.
ayham  Aug 13, 2016
A
From what I can remember, you get the power via the reverse light, so the camera only comes on when in reverse. It's been a while since I wired it, but I'm fairly certain that's how it was done.
robert  Aug 13, 2016
A
IT depends on what model Nuvi you have. For a list of compatible devices, go to Garmin's site and check the BC-30. Scroll down to compatible devices and check if your device is in this list. The best way I've seen to wire the camera is to you reverse lights, you can use T-taps to make a semi-permanent connection. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to install it.

Q
will this work with my Garmin nuvi 2598 and HD digital traffic cable?
john  Sep 02, 2015
3 answers
A
Not sure if it will work with the 2598. That being said, this kit is for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th cameras added to the system. It needs the appropriate charger cable (with the receiver integrated into the cable) to function. Cable not included in this kit.
robert e  Sep 03, 2015
A
It is possible. On your Garmin Nuvi main menu click on apps and select backup camera. The device will tell you which BC device to purchase.
todd  Sep 03, 2015
A
No it won't. This a "add on" camera for people that already have the back up camera kit and are wanting to add a extra camera. The add on camera doesn't come with the cable needed to sync to your GPS. The cable that comes in the BC 30 kit will retain your HD traffic.

Q
will this work with my garmin 65 gps..t has an app for it?...thanks marty
marty  Aug 01, 2015
1 answer
A
Yes it will. Make sure you buy the BC30 camera and not the add on. You will need the BC30 receiver cable to sync with your GPS.
