If you enjoy outdoor geocaching with your Garmin handheld, the chirp wireless beacon is a great way to up the technological ante. chirp is a small, wireless beacon that can communicate with compatible Garmin handhelds. It stores hints and multicache coordinates, counts visitors, and lets others know that your cache is nearby. You can program your chirp with your own wireless Garmin handheld, and it's password protected so others won't be able to reprogram it when they find it.
How it works
chirp can be programmed by any compatible wireless-enabled Garmin handheld to store geocaching hints and other information. When other geocachers arrive near your cache, they'll be alerted that the cache is nearby, and then they'll be able to access the hints you've loaded into chirp. And when you return, chirp will tell you how many visitors have been to your cache.
Using your compatible Garmin handheld device, chirp automatically transmits program coordinates so other cachers can find each stage of your multicache. Or if you're on a multicache, chirp lets you download coordinates right to your device.
The battery included with chirp lasts up to one year, so you can leave it in your cache for extended periods without concern. And although chirp's got a waterproof casing designed to brave the elements, the battery's simple to replace.
