About the Garmin Dash Cam 20
Peace of mind
Peace of mind
If you've been in a major accident or even a little fender-bender, you know how fuzzy the facts can get in heat of the moment, when you're full of adrenaline, staring at your ruined car, and another driver is shouting their side of the story at you. Well, Garmin can refresh your memory with the Dash Cam 20, your very own unblinking eyewitness. And unlike many other models, the Dash Cam 20 includes a GPS receiver which will record the latitude, longitude, date, time, speed, and direction of travel along with the video files in order to provide a more complete presentation of the incident.
The Garmin Dash Cam 20's wide angle lens records a more complete view of an incident.
So simple
This compact dash cam fits in the palm of your hand, so it won't clutter up your field of vision and it's easy to swap between cars. You simply install the cam in the sturdy suction cup, attach it to the windshield, and plug it into your car's 12-volt power point, you're done. The fully automated camera starts recording once the engine is turned on and stops when the engine is turned off. Simply enjoy the peace of mind — the Garmin Dash Cam 20 is loop-recording a high resolution, wide-angle view of the road to set the record straight if something unexpected happens.
Little black box
In the golden era of distracted driving, it's an unfortunate reality that not every driver's eyes are always on the road. If you're involved in an accident, this device's built-in G-Sensor detects hard braking or a collision, and knows to save the last, current and next recordings, preserving a complete record of the event. An integrated microphone allows audio recording capability; if you need to take the cam out and get some snapshots of damage, it has photo capability as well.
Video output
Dash Cam 20 records 1080p, 720p or WVGA video files in a continuous loop, using the included 4 GB microSD™ card. The included card will give you 1 hour of video at 1080p; 2.25 hours at 720p; or 4.75 hours at WVGA. To increase storage, you can add a larger microSD card (up to 32 GB). Its 2.3-inch color display makes playback and camera positioning simple.

Features
Overview: The Garmin Dash Cam 20 is a stand-alone recorder with GPS which mounts to your windshield with the supplied suction cup mount. It has a 2.3" LCD display, and comes with a 4 GB microSD card. As it records, the time and date and location data (coordinates, speed, and direction of travel) are embedded into the video so you'll know exactly when and where a captured event occurred.
Recording: The Dash Cam 20 records in a continuous loop onto a microSD card. It records both audio and video as you drive, or video only (if desired). As long as the Dash Cam is receiving power, it is recording. As the available memory runs out, it starts recording over the oldest recordings. You can also take still photos at any time by pressing the Photo button on the front panel.
Resolution: The Dash Cam 20's 3MP camera sensor records high definition video in AVI format (H.264 compression) at 30 frames per second onto the microSD card. You can set the resolution to 1080p, 720p, or VGA. The higher the resolution, the shorter the available recording time on the memory card.
Display: The unit is equipped with a 2.3" color TFT LCD display. You can use the display to properly aim the camera while recording, or for playing back recordings. The brightness of the screen can be adjusted in the menu.
Lens: The Dash Cam has a wide-angle lens that gives you a full view of the road. You can manually adjust the exposure for brighter or darker lighting conditions.
Microphone: An integrated microphone records audio inside the vehicle. If desired, the microphone can be turned off so the unit records only video.
Rechargeable Battery: The built-in rechargeable battery is charged when connected to vehicle power through the cigarette lighter adapter. Normally, the unit will be plugged into vehicle power as you drive. If you need to remove the Dash Cam from the vehicle, the battery has enough stored power to operate approximately 1 hour.
microSD Card: The Dash Cam 20 comes with a 4 GB microSD card. A microSD adapter is included for viewing on devices that will accept only full-sized SD cards. The Dash Cam 20 is compatible with microSD cards (and microSDHC cards) up to 32 GB. Speed Class 10 microSD cards are required. The available recording time for microSD cards is as follows:
microSD card (# of files) | 1080p | 720p | VGA |
---|---|---|---|
4 GB (6 files) | 48 mins | 2.2 hrs | 4.8 hrs |
8 GB (15 files) | 96 mins | 4.4 hrs | 9.6 hrs |
16 GB (30 files) | 192 mins | 8.8 hrs | 19.2 hrs |
32 GB (60 files) | 384 mins | 17.6 hrs | 38.4 hrs |
Automatic Incident Detection: The Dash Cam has a built-in G-sensor, which can detect when a collision or hard braking occurs. When the G-sensor detects an incident, the previous, current, and next recordings are automatically saved. This way, a complete record of the moments before, during, and after the event is preserved. The Event Detection Sensor needs to be calibrated before use, and the sensitivity adjusted as needed.
Installation: The Dash Cam 20 is designed to be mounted on your windshield using the included suction cup mount. It should always be mounted in the upright orientation, otherwise the resulting video will be upside down or sideways. If connected to an ignition-switch powered outlet, the Dash Cam will turn on and off automatically as you turn the ignition on and off.
Viewing Videos and Photos: You can view recorded video and still image files on the Dash Cam's LCD screen. You can remove the microSD card and view the files using a card reader on your computer. Videos and still images are stored in separate folders. When viewing the footage on your computer, you'll have a record of latitude, longitude, date, time, speed, and direction of travel.

This unit was easy to install in our car, takes up a small footprint on the front window, and the instruction booklet was clear and easy to understand. We are buying more for Christmas presents for family members. Price is great at Crutchfield~~
