For just $12.95 per month, XM delivers the best radio entertainment around, including over 150 channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, and commercial-free music.

You can also enjoy XM's NavTraffic service for an additional $3.99 per month, or for $9.99 per month without XM Satellite Radio. It updates you on road conditions, accidents, lane closures, and delays along your route. It'll also alert you to scheduled traffic diversions — sporting events, road construction, and more.

In select cities, the system even monitors in real time the current average speed on some high-traffic roads. If there's a traffic jam ahead, the system will warn you in plenty of time, and will suggest alternate routes. Not a bad way to avoid sitting in bumper-to-bumper gridlock.

Please note: XM service is available only in the lower 48 states, not available in Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. territories. NavTraffic is currently available in most major metropolitan areas.

I purchased this to connect with Kenwood's DNX7100 that I have installed in my Jaguar S-type. It is placed on the rear parcel shelf and there is little to no reception issues even though it is installed inside the vehicle.

Could they make it any bigger?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With a unit this big I should be able to mount it under seat and still get a signal. but all kidding aside the unit works great, a little on the big side, but with out the need for a tuner it makes sense. i mounted the unit on the passanger side of my truck behind the windshield and i get great service. great unit, just a little bulky. oh and the 20-30 mins you have to keep the vehicle on to activate is kinda bad, but oh well what can you do.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the Garmin GXM-30 for my '07 H-D Electraglide. Installed under the fairing on the top of the OEM radio and ran cable through the hole for the handlebar on the side where the Garmin Zumo 550 is mounted. Reception is great everywhere I ride and with just a few less expensive parts and pieces plays XM through the OEM 40W radio and powers from the OEM Accessories Switch on the inside of the fairing console.

Features

Overview: The Garmin GXM30 Smart Antenna delivers XM Satellite Radio, XM NavTraffic and Weather services to compatible Garmin GPS units. Subscriptions to XM Satellite Radio and/or XM NavTraffic are required.

XM Satellite Radio: XM Satellite Radio offers more than 150 channels of continuous programming including 67 commercial-free music channels, 63 channels of News, Sports, Talk and Entertainment, and 21 channels of XM Instant Traffic and Weather (audio only information).

XM NavTraffic: Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic, XM is the nation's first satellite-based data traffic information service that enables a vehicle's on-board GPS navigation system to display current traffic information for select metropolitan areas, including the driver's chosen route. XM NavTraffic can display the following information:

  • Real-time traffic flow information (including the actual traffic speed data in some cases)
  • Unscheduled traffic incident data (such as accidents, disabled vehicles, and weather-related issues)
  • Scheduled traffic incident data (such as road construction and road closures)

Note: Because the reporting of information on traffic accidents, disabled vehicles, etc. relies on human interaction, the time span from when an incident occurs and when is displayed by XM NavTraffic will vary.

Market Coverage: The NavTraffic service is currently available in the following metropolitan areas:

Atlanta, GA Detroit, MI Philadelphia, PA San Francisco - Oakland, CA
Baltimore, MD Houston - Galveston, TX Phoenix, AZ San Jose, CA
Boston, MA Los Angeles, CA Pittsburgh, PA Seattle - Tacoma, WA

St. Petersburg - Clearwater, FL
Cleveland, OH Minneapolis - St. Paul, MN Sacramento, CA Washington, DC
Dallas - Ft. Worth, TX New York, NY San Antonio, TX Wilmington, DE
Denver - Boulder, CO Orlando, FL San Diego, CA

XM Weather: XM Weather, an included service of XM NavTraffic, provides basic weather data information from the XM WX Satellite Weather service. This weather information includes Current Conditions, 5 to 7 Day City Forecast (depending upon the city information), and Severe Weather Alerts.

Unit Placement: The GXM30 should be mounted where it has a clear view of the sky. This can be on the outside of the vehicle, on the dashboard of the vehicle, or near a window. The unit has a strong magnetic base for secure exterior mounting, and includes a mounting flange that screws to the base of the unit for interior mounting to the dash or rear window shelf. The GMX30 includes over 10 feet of cable, including a 6-1/2' extension.

Compatibility: The GXM30 is currently compatible with the following Garmin units:

  • StreetPilot 2730 (GXM30 included)
