The nüvi 265WT portable navigator from Garmin offers several attractive features not usually found in its price range. Built-in Bluetooth® connectivity allows hands-free calling with your compatible cell phone, and you can get free traffic updates to keep you informed of potential delays. You'll hear text-to-speech voice prompts guiding you to your destination, and you'll view detailed maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico on its easy-to-read 4.3" color touchscreen display.

You can search the nüvi 265WT's 6 million points of interest for hotels, restaurants, shops, and other facilities along your route. You can even add custom points of interest to mark favorite stops a little off the beaten path. Text-to-speech voice prompts announce actual street names, so you'll hear "turn left on Route 29," instead of "take the next left turn."

Timely traffic updates
The nüvi 265WT includes a FM-TMC traffic-info receiver which keeps you updated on congestion in most metropolitan areas. The nüvi can offer detailed information on the cause of the delay, and save you time by finding a quick way around the problem. Best of all, you pay no subscription fees for this service for the life of your navigator.

The nüvi 265WT includes a built-in digital picture viewer so you can enjoy your latest photos on the 4.3" screen — just slip your personal SD™ memory cards into the card slot. It also includes a world travel clock with time zones, currency and measurement converters, a calculator, and more of Garmin's handy travel extras.

Stay safe and secure
The "Where Am I" emergency locator provides your exact location in an instant, displaying nearby emergency services if help is needed. Garmin's security feature protects your navigator with a personalized password that keeps unauthorized people from viewing your itinerary or personal information.

Add MSN® Direct for additional information
You can add an optional Garmin receiver to receive MSN Direct content on the nüvi 265WT. MSN Direct provides helpful travel information in most metropolitan areas, including traffic updates, weather reports, and local gas prices. It also offers news headlines, stock prices, and local event and movie listings. You'll need to subscribe to MSN Direct; a free trial period is included with receiver purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the Bluetooth feature but as others have put it before, the traffic alerts are not that current and up to date as I would like. But other than that, its a great unit.

Pretty good, but could use some improvements

Written By Anonymous, White Plains, NY on Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my fourth GPS unit. I bought it to replace an older Garmin in my car, which lacked Bluetooth and traffic alerts. I'm generally pleased with the 265WT. It performs better than the unit that it's replacing (it's faster, has a better interface, and the display is larger and shows more info), but the two features that distinguish it from it's predecessor (Bluetooth and traffic alerts) could use some improvements.

(1) The Bluetooth feature is easy to set up, and connects to my phone very quickly, but the output volume is so high that a caller's voice gets a little distorted. If I reduce the GPS volume, then the caller's voice sounds better, but then I have trouble hearing the GPS's voice.

(2) I've been using this device for about two weeks, and the traffic alert service has been unreliable, which I find surpising since I live in the New York metropolitan area. I commute along a major highway, and only once have I been alerted to a traffic incident on that highway, despite the fact that I have had to sit through several sigificant delays over the last couple of weeks. It would seem that the traffic alerts are not very useful for avoiding delays have have only recently developed, like the ones that you can expect at the beginning of rush hour.

In general, I'm satified with the Garmin 265WT, but only because I got it at a very good price. If I had to pay extra for the traffic alert service, then I'd probably return the unit and get one without that feature.

Daily Use of GPS

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Our second GPS in a few years. Use for daily driving and vacation trips. Garmin was easy to activate. Screen is crisp and easy to read. Voice is much louder and clearer than our last GPS. Lifetime traffic was a definite plus in Garmin choice. Have changed the vehicle and voice to make the GPS a bit more fun. (Downloaded a spooky voice for Halloween-the kids loved it!) Garmin has a website that is easy to navigate and is informative. Crutchfields by far had the most information and technical specs to assure we were purchasing the right GPS for our needs. Crutchfields has excellent technical assistance and customer service!

Excellent & User Friendly

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit for Black Friday 08. I had researched it for a long time. I really wanted the traffic accessory because I only traverse 2 roads down western Florida. Knowing traffic ahead is vital or you are in gridlock. Phone works great, maps are great and detailed. Traffic featrue is not as user friendly as I would have expected. I'd like to see the traffic overlayed on the route I am travelling instead of using an addtional traffic map.

It was a great buy and was easy to install and link to my bluetooth blackberry.

Different and Better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a competing product which had several problems, including taking us to
a neighbor's driveway every time a trip home was planned. This was despite
making a manual entry of our home address!! A very helpful and knowledgeable
Crutchfield staff member [they are all like that!] recommended me this model for
being a little more accurate.

I returned the competing product and bought this one. This worked flawlessly
and also showed a capable firmware in guiding through another tricky route we
regularly take. Such tricky routes are common in New England because of
twisting roads and rotaries or roundabouts instead of orthogonal intersections!

Thanks Crutchfiled for such helpful customer service!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My third garmin GPS in seven years and they get better every time. Yes, they have a error along the way now and then , but I am much better with it, than without. Same said for Crutchfield. The website, with all its usefull information, sells me on my purchase everytime. I never get that kind of help at a big box store.

Just Another 5-Star Review

Written By Dennis, Dayton, OH on Sunday, September 20, 2009

I did a great deal of research before I finalized my selection of all the Garmin portable GPS receivers to the 265WT. A lot of research! Here's what I learned: 1) No GPS receiver is perfect, every one of them has flaws; 2) All needed updating after purchase with either updated software or maps; and 3) A GPS receiver is all about features, features, and features.

For the price, the 265WT stands out on a very short list of "good" receivers. These are receivers that can deliver the "basic features" that most users will want (i.e., routing, rerouting, traffic reports, bluetooth, etc.). Of course, if you've the money, then you need to be looking at the more expensive Garmin's - the 885 for instance.

I've no complaints about the unit. Note, I did immediately download the free map update from Garmin (takes about 2-hours with a high-speed DSL or Cable Modem). The update worked flawlessly with the GPS unit connected to my netbook and off I went. I haven't stopped using the unit. It's real easy to use.

Crutchfield, of course, was just GREAT in getting the unit to me and it arrived undamaged and on the date indicated. No complaints.

Another Great GPS From Garmin!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although I haven't had time to explore all the options and features of this unit, I can verify that the ones I've used work very well. Initial setup was quick and easy. I have a Bluetooth headset, which I still prefer to use when making cell phone calls while I'm driving, but the convenience of having Bluetooth integrated into the GPS is a nice feature to have, especially in this price range.
Another nice surprise in this GPS is that it constantly displays the posted speed limit, as well as your actual driving speed. The speaker quality/volume is excellent, and the guidance is extremely accurate. I've used several different Garmin navigation systems in the past. The 265WT is an excellent choice in this price range. Being fully featured, and spot-on accurate have made it a great companion for miles of worry-free travel!

So far, Really good!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is truly a plug & play product. Worked perfectly right out of the box and has been a pleasure to use. Also I was able to establish an online account with Garmin and download the latest maps from my laptop at no charge. Great product. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a full feature portable GPS. I also like the blue tooth feature.

Garmin nuvi® 265WT

Written By Jose, Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday, May 13, 2009

This is the first nav unit that I have owned and I am pleased to say I
made an excellent choice. The bluetooth feature is a nice plus, but the
speakers sound a bit distorted when you have it on full volume (which I
found I needed at highway speed). The directions and maps that it shows
you are dead-on, and it even tells you on what side of the street your
destination is located and at EXACTLY what time you will arrive. I have
made numerous wrong turns on purpose and the unit recalculates your
route VERY fast. After you register your unit with Garmin, you can add
different voices and change your vehicle icon. The battery lasts a really long
time and the screen brightness hasn't been a problem even in the middle of
the day.
My only complaint is that often times the unit fails to recalculate a route
until AFTER i'm stuck in traffic. I thought the whole purpose of that feature
was to prevent you from getting jammed in traffic. Also, I haven't really
found a way to "TURN ON" the traffic feature, it just turns on by itself (look
at the picture provided by Crutchfield, you will see a small green dot with
two white cars on the top left side of the navigation screen) Once that
green button pops up in your screen, you can click on it and then select to
activate the traffic feature. If that green button doesn't pop up, you are not
able to activate the "traffic map" as they call it.

I like would give 5 stars to the Garmin NUVI 265WT GPS and 1 star to Garmin customer service. The GPS is excellent but I am unable to impliment the bluetooth function. My cell phone is bluetooth ready but I cannot connect with the GPS. When I call Garmin ,after going through all the menus, I am told that I will have a 35 minute wait before a technician is available. I don't know if the other GPS Companies have any better customer support but I would recommend checking it out before making a purchase.

One drawback - updating maps is silly expensive.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am pleased with this unit. It does a lot and has a lot of features. A good value for the cost.

I love that it shows the speed limit on screen for whatever road you are traveling! Plus the speed you are moving and the direction traveling are shown on the main map screen.

It has lifetime traffic, and is easy to use and understand.

No manual is included, but the help files on the unit are easy to use and understand. Also a manual can be downloaded for free from Garmin. No need to print it, just refer to that on your computer, if you need to on occasion.

Almost didn't do it

Written By Tony, Rochester NY on Monday, March 02, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I almost didn't wright this because I agreed with what I was reading in the other reviews. But than I downloaded the owners manual. What a waste of paper! I don't mean the manual content, I mean they only used 1/4 of the page of paper for print and the rest was blank! It's bad enough they don't send a manual with the product, but to use 54 sheets of paper when they could have used 10 is a crime. While I'am at it I might as well mention that this is my first GPS so I have no previous experience but I though the speaker quality was not very good or loud enough and not allowing you to spell the street name in its entirely at times is a pain. My low rating reflects the manual and the company more than the unit.

Overall Great Product

Written By Mike, Pasadena, MD on Saturday, February 28, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my wife as she travels often for work and calls me almost as often while on the road for directions. I have played with it and like it very much. I have found a couple of instances where it gets briefly confused, but recovers quickly. Recalculates route quickly as well. TTS is pretty good for the price. Display and touch screen is very nice and works well. Only major complaint would be the "hard plastic mounting disk with self-adhesive base". The adhesive is useless. Disk would work well if it would stick. My wife's windshield is too steep to mount the unit on it. She can't reach it. So I need to get good double-sided adhesive to mount the disk to the dash. Overall, great product! Would definitely recommend it.

So far so good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, let me say that Pittsburgh is the absolute worst place to get around in the world. No good way to get from point A to point B with all the mountains, bridges and tunnels.

Being unfamilar with the area, this unit has been a valuable asset and has saved me lots of time by giving me routing to unknown areas.

Also the traffic alert feature is great. It has saved me from being jammed in traffic from accidents as much as 4-5 miles away. When the traffic icon lights up (goes from green to yellow or red) all you have to do is punch the icon and then follow the menu to either avoid or continue. It also gives an estimate of how long the delay will be,

Great unit at a great price + no tax or shipping I love it! ! !

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recently, I purchased (2) Garmin NUVI 265WT GPS units - one for my husband, who travels extensively throughout the US and Canada, and one for my son who, for job purposes, is sent to various locations in Colorado with very little notice and provided NO directions. My husband returned from Canada stating this particular Garmin model worked absolutely perfect! Being in another country is a true test for how well mapped directions work! His favorite features are ease of use, clear wide screen, and especially the "spoken" street names. Direction recalibration was extremely quick and easy. My son loves his for the same reasons and doesn't know how he got along without it! For the money, I don't think there's a better GPS system made and both of my "boys" are quite satisfied with their gifts! I would not hesitate to purchase another unit from Garmin!

Great device at a great price

Written By Todd, Plainville, CT on Thursday, November 06, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me preface this review with the fact that this is the first GPS I have used.

The device is extremely easy to setup and configure. The screens and menus are very user friendly and don't require any technical expertise at all. I purchased this particular device because of the widescreen, lifetime traffic and price. The traffic feature is especially handy. It will re-route around traffic when necessary or keep you in the traffic if that is still the fastest route. This device also come with Bluetooth. Pairing the device to your cell phone is quick and easy.

As another reviewer had mentioned Garmin does need to do some better interpretation when speaking routes. CT (for Connecticut) is said as Court. It doesn't pose any navigational problems but can make the drive rather amusing.

Overall this is an outstanding mid-level device at a great price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second GPS I've owned. The first was a Magellan. It was stolen last week. I don't miss it. This is by far the most useful user interface for my needs. I drive a service truck all day and I'm always trying to find the closest supply house. I have 80 in the address book. On the old GPS I had to try each one one at a time to see which was closer. On the GARMIN, they are displayed in distance order. What a great idea! And you can make multiple folders within the address book. I have one for customers and one for supplies and one for personal contacts... And the bluetooth will dial the phone numbers for each entry while I drive so I can place orders or communicate with customers without fumbling with my phone. And don't get me started with the FREE TRAFFIC FOR LIFE. I've already sold this unit to two of my friends by just showing it to them. I've never reviewed a product on the internet but this one had to be my first. Hope it helped.

An Awesome GPS

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded from the Garmin Nuvi 200 to this unit, and the 265 WT runs circles around my older unit. The Blue Tooth works amazingly well, and it's very convenient to use for making cell phone calls on the road. When connected, you can use the device to call the services that come up during a search. As of this writing, I haven't used the traffic warning system much, but it has activated when near large metro areas. This is a great little device.

Garmin Rocks

Written By Hugh, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tx on Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 5th Garmin. I started with the little IPAQ PDA and wore it out. My wife and kids have the 300 series (the wife has the 350, the kids the cheaper 330's). I finally bought the NUVI 265WT for myself because of the lifetime free traffic. The little pop-up ads only show up when you're not moving and they are in the edge of the screen and very small. Hardly noticeable at all and worth it for lifetime free traffic if you live in an area that supports it.

When I can put a Garmin in my families hands with no instructions and they can intuitively use it, that reflects well on the Garmin design.

Minor complaint, but it is funny to hear: Garmin needs to adjust their US speech database to know that "FM" means "Farm to Market" road not "Federated States of Micronesia". "SH" also stands for "State Highway", not "Shhhhhhh". When I drove through Louisiana (which has Parishes not Counties), a road labeled "PR" means "Parish Road", but the Garmin would pronounce it as "Puerto Rico".

With as much data that this little GPS contains, it's probably difficult to fine tune the speech patterns to the specific location of the world that you might be using it in, but it might be worth a try.

Buy any version of the Garmin that you can afford and you won't regret it.

When you select "Where Am I?" from the menu, you get the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, or gas stations. You can also save the location for future reference.

Route Preferences: When calculating a route, you can select the following preferences: faster time, shorter distance, or off road.

Avoidances: You can program the unit to avoid certain things that may be undesirable on your route. Examples of things that can be avoided include U-Turns, Highways, Toll Roads, Traffic, Carpool Lanes, Unpaved Roads, and Ferries.

Waypoints: You can manually mark and name any map position as a waypoint for later recall. Up to 1000 waypoints can be saved into memory.

Map Orientation: You can select one of three map orientation displays:

  • 2D Track Up: two-dimensional map that constantly displays the route from top to bottom on the screen
  • 2D North Up: two-dimensional map that constantly displays North at the top of the screen
  • 3D Track Up: three-dimensional map that constantly displays the route from top to bottom on the screen

Screen Color Mode: You can select one of three color modes for the display screen:

  • Daytime: has a lighter, brighter background
  • Nighttime: has a black background, easier to see at night
  • Auto: display automatically switches between daytime and nighttime at sunrise and sunset

Bluetooth: Many Bluetooth-capable cellular phones are compatible with your nüvi 265WT and can use it as a hands-free car kit. The nüvi 265WT has both a microphone and speaker, so no additional equipment is necessary to integrate your Bluetooth phone. Available options will vary by phone, however, generally these apply:

  • accept or ignore incoming calls on the touch screen
  • dial your home number
  • enter a number manually
  • call a POI (Point Of Interest)
  • dial a number in your phone book
  • call a recently dialed number
  • dial a recent caller
  • send or receive text messages

Indoor Use: When indoors, you can activate the built-in simulator and practice using the unit. This turns off the GPS receiver so it's not searching for satellites.

Vehicle Icons: The default on-screen icon representing your vehicle is a blue sports car. In the menu, you can select a blue 4WD pickup truck, a blue compact car, a blue 3D arrow, a pair of boots, a large bird, or a rolling beach ball. You can also download other vehicle icons from the "Garmin Garage" website. Other downloadable vehicles are available in the Hangar Bundle, Holiday bundle, Pirates of the Caribbean bundle, or Service Vehicles bundle.

Picture Viewer: The nüvi 265WT can display photo images (JPEG files). The image files must be stored on an optional SD memory card or transferred to the internal memory.

World Clock: The world clock allows you to display the current time for four locations throughout the world. You can also display a map of the world showing which portions are in daylight and which are in darkness.

Unit Converter: You can convert area, distance, speed, temperature, volume, and weight.

Calculator: The calculator allows you to perform simple arithmetic.

Panoramio: The Panoramio website provides photographs that include location information called geotags. These photos can be downloaded into the nüvi 265WT or SD memory card, and the unit can route you to the location.

Power Requirements: The nüvi 265WT operates on your vehicle's battery using the included 12-volt cigarette lighter power adapter, the built-in Lithium-Ion batteries, or household current using an optional AC adapter. The Lithium-Ion batteries provide up to 4 hours of use, and require a 4-hour charge to full capacity. Stored data, such as waypoints or unit settings, are not lost when the unit is disconnected from a power source.

Antenna: The unit has a built-in antenna in its top panel. In order to obtain an optimal signal, the unit must have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. It the unit is mounted in a vehicle with a coated windshield or an in-screen heating system there may be difficulty in obtaining a good signal.

Mounting Options: The unit should be securely installed when used in a vehicle. The unit comes with a mounting bracket that includes a suction cup. The suction cup can be used to mount the unit to the windshield or to the dash (using the plastic mounting disk). Once the nüvi 265WT is mounted, it can be adjusted on the ball-and-socket bracket for best visibility. The unit must be installed where it has a relatively unobstructed view of the sky.

Optional Pro.Fit G3 Vehicle Specific Mounts: The Garmin nüvi GPS units are directly compatible with the optional Pro.Fit G3 series of Vehicle Specific Mounts (VSMs). The G3 Series mounts have a ball-and-socket mechanism that perfectly fits the nüvi mounting cradles, giving you a custom mount designed for your vehicle. Please check the Crutchfield vehicle selector to see if a G3 Series VSM is available for your vehicle.

Interface Capability: This unit can be connected to a PC or Mac via USB cable (not included). This interface allows you to download additional map information to the unit's flash memory. The unit has a standard Mini-USB Version 2.0 jack. Note: The nüvi is not compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, or Windows NT. It is also not compatible with Mac OS 10.3 or earlier. This is a common limitation of most USB mass storage devices.
