About the Garmin Rino® 650t
Guidance and two-way communication
Garmin's waterproof Rino 650t GPS handheld features a built-in FRS/GMRS radio, allowing you to communicate with your pals on the trail, in the woods, or over water. You'll get outstanding guidance, including a worldwide basemap, electronic compass, and barometric altimeter. It'll also allow you to share data wirelessly with similar devices so you can keep your geocaching group up-to-date with your latest explorations. You can also save routes for future expeditions and take advantage of Garmin's hunt/fish calendar and celestial data for fun under the sun or moon. And even without cell service, you can still keep up with your friends.
The Rino 650t's rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 14 hours of use between charges, and you can use "AA" batteries as backup. The handheld also gives you NOAA weather radio reports so you'll know when potentially unsafe conditions are approaching.
See your maps and photos clearly
The Rino 650t's 2.6" color screen lets you check out the included worldwide basemap with shaded relief, even in direct sunlight. You can even download geotagged photos from the Internet and navigate to them.
Big memory for more maps
The Rino 650t offers a whopping 4.5 GB of onboard memory, so you can download additional topo, marine, and road maps without hassle. It'll also accept maps via microSD™ card. You can also employ BirdsEye Satellite imagery with an optional subscription, allowing you to download satellite images to the handheld and integrate them into your maps. Garmin's Custom Maps feature lets you transform your old paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps you can transfer to the handheld, for extra backup.
Know where you are at all times
The Rino 650t features a quad helix antenna and sensitive GPS receiver so it'll find you in a hurry and lock on to your position. You'll be covered in deep canyons and under thick foliage, or even when surrounded by skyscrapers. The handheld's 3-axis electronic compass and barometric altimeter help keep you on course.
Keep up with your companions
Not only will you be able to radio your friends on FRS and GMRS channels with the Rino 650t, you can also send unit-to-unit text messages with time stamps to other Rino users in the area. That's great for when it's windy or loud outside, or for just not bothering Mother Nature. The Rino 650t also features Position Reporting, so you can send your exact location to other Rino users, which they'll see on their map screens — a real help if you're worried about getting separated in the wild. You can even track multiple contacts on the same screen.
The Rino 650t also allows you to set up multiple profiles so your contacts can get different pictures of your personality, depending on what activities you have in common.

More details on the Garmin Rino® 650t
Product Research
Features
Overview: The Garmin Rino 650t is a weather-resistant handheld GPS navigation device and two-way radio. It has a preloaded basemap, the TOPO U.S. 100K maps, and supports advanced mapping capabilities with a free 1-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. The Rino 650t comes with a rechargeable battery and a carabiner clip.
Touchscreen Display: The Rino 650t has a vertically-oriented 2.6" (diagonal) 65K color touchscreen display with a resolution of 160 x 240 pixels. The backlit display can be adjusted in intensity (0% to 100% in 10% increments) and timeout length (15 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, or Stays on).
Maps: The Rino 650t comes with a built-in basemap (Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR) and the TOPO U.S. 100K maps. The TOPO U.S. 100K maps are topographic maps comparable to 1:100,000 scale USGS maps, and include terrain contours, topo elevations, summits, parks, coastlines, rivers, lakes, and geographic points. You can search for points of interest like parks, campgrounds, scenic overlooks, and picnic sites. Additional maps, such as BlueChart g2 marine maps, can be added via optional microSD cards.
BirdsEye Satellite Imagery: Included with the Rino 650t is a 1-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. High-resolution color satellite imagery provides a true representation of your surroundings. The device also lets you layer the satellite images over the TOPO U.S. 100K maps. When you first receive the Rino 650t, you will need to activate your subscription and download the images to the unit.
Garmin BaseCamp: Garmin BaseCamp can be downloaded to your home PC or Mac so you can plan your next outing. You can view your TOPO U.S. 100K and BirdsEye Satellite Imagery on BaseCamp, plus plan routes, and mark waypoints and tracks, then transfer them to the Rino 650t. Garmin BaseCamp is compatible with PCs running Windows Vista (SP2) or later, and a Mac running OS X 10.10 or higher.
Two-way Radio: The Garmin Rino 650t is a 22-channel, two way radio that operates on the FRS (Family Radio Service) and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) bands. Both services are designed for short-distance, two-way communications. The FRS band consists of 14 channels around 462 MHz and 467 MHz in the UHF band. It has a range of up to 2 miles on 0.5 watts transmission power. The GMRS band occupies 8 channels between 462.550 MHz and 462.725 MHz, at 5.0 watts of power and a range of up to 20 miles. A license from the FCC is required to communicate on a GMRS channel.
Compass/Altimeter: The Rino 650t features a high-sensitivity GPS receiver and quad helix antenna, which enables you to quickly find your position. The built-in barometric altimeter and 3-axis compass help you to find your bearings and point you in the right direction.
Positioning Reporting: You can send your exact location to other Rino users, allowing them to see your location on their map page. You can track the movement of other Rino users and navigate to their position. Due to FCC restrictions, you may only send your location once every 30 seconds.
Weather Alerts: The unit can receive weather alerts from the built-in NOAA weather radio. It supports Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME), which allows you to see severe weather warnings and watches displayed county-by-county from the National Weather Service.
Weather Resistant: The Rino 650t has a water rating of IPX7 (IEC Standard 60529), which means it can withstand incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. You can use the device in inclement weather without worry.
Rechargeable Battery: The Rino 650t is powered by a Lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The battery pack has an integrated battery compartment cover and locks into the back of the device. The battery charges in approximately 6 hours using the supplied AC adapter and charging cable. A fully-charged battery can provide up to 14 hours of battery life. An optional AA battery pack is available from Garmin that allows you to power the device for up to 18 hours with four AA alkaline batteries.
USB: The built-in USB port, and included USB cable, allow you to connect the unit to your computer for transferring files and loading maps. The device is compatible with files from Garmin BaseCamp and HomePort, GPI custom POI from the Garmin POI Loader, JPEG photo files, and GPX geocache files. The USB port is located under a weatherproof cover near the top of the unit. The device is not compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, or Mac OS 10.3 or earlier.
ANT+: The Rino 650t is compatible with optional ANT+ accessories, such as the Heart Rate Monitor. These accessories send data wirelessly up to 10 feet away, allowing the unit to keep track of your heart rate or cycling/running cadence.
