Installed on ductwork

Vibration-induced noise in sheet metal ductwork can be reduced by applying sheets of Dynamat Xtreme.

Vibration = noise

Vibrating sheet metal is a major source of noise in most households. Washers and dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, ductwork and pipes create noise that can be distracting when you're trying to enjoy music or a movie. You can quiet that noise with Dynamat Xtreme.

A simple, effective solution

Dynamat Xtreme is a thin, lightweight vibration-damping material that reduces noise when applied to sheet metal surfaces. Through a process called "Vibro-Acoustic Energy Conversion," Dynamat Xtreme converts vibrational energy into low-grade thermal energy. The result is a noticeably quieter home.

Easy to install

Dynamat Xtreme has a self-adhesive peel-and-stick backing, and is pliable, so it conforms and adheres easily to sheet metal and any other hard surface. This kit includes 24 pieces, each 4" x 10". I used Dynamat to quiet the HVAC ductwork that's near my theater room, and I also applied some to my washer and dryer located in an adjacent room. It made a very noticeably improvement, especially on the ductwork.

Product Highlights:

  • thin, lightweight sheets reduce vibration when applied to sheet metal surfaces
  • self-adhesive peel-and-stick design
  • kit includes 24 pieces, each measuring 4" x 10" (6.67 square feet total)

Product Research

Overview: Unwanted noise produced by vibrating sheet metal is a common problem in every household. Dishwashers, air conditioners, duct work & piping create irritating noise problems that keep you from enjoying music, movies & everyday family life.  All these items are made from sheet metal & can be made quiet with an application of the Dynamat Extreme Utility Pak.

Note: This Dynamat Extreme Utility Pak contains twenty-four 4" x 10" Dynamat Xtreme pieces (6.67 sq.ft. total).

Dynamat Extreme: Dynamat Xtreme is a very thin, light-weight, constrained-layer vibrational damper. Dynamat Xtreme has a self adhesive peel & stick backing with a high level of tack that conforms & fuses easily to sheet metal & any other hard substrate.

Virbro-Acoustic Energy Conversion: Sheet metal subjected to impact creates noise. With Dynamat installed, the noise is transformed into silent energy through a process called "Vibro-Acoustic Energy Conversion". Dynamat converts the vibrational energy into low-grade thermal energy. The result is a more quiet & comfortable living environment.

Installation: Before you start your installation, be sure the surface is totally free from dust, dirt & foreign matter. Dust will greatly affect the adhesion of the Dynamat thus reducing the damping efficiency. Using a razor knife or scissors, cut the Dynamat to the desired shape and size (a cardboard or paper template may be helpful.) Remove the release liner from the back of the Dynamat & apply Dynamat to the prepared surface. On large surfaces, remove the release liner in sections working your way down & across the panel. Apply the Dynamat to the panel surface with a Dynamat roller tool (15410005/15410007, sold separately). Take the roller tool & work the Dynamat into all of the contours of the metal panel. Using a razor knife, poke holes in any air pockets that may have formed between the panel and the Dynamat. Work the air out with the roller tool. Eliminating air pockets will ensure lasting adhesion of the Dynamat to the panel, giving you maximum damping efficiency.

Note: Panel resonance control starts with a minimum of 25% coverage of Dynamat. This works best centered in the panel you are quieting. Some panels may require full coverage to gain proper resonance control.
