The power of multichannel surround sound is waiting for you on nearly 12,000 movie soundtracks and many stereo TV broadcasts. The STR-DE345 has the Dolby® Pro Logic™ decoding you need to unlock it. This smart Sony also has 5.1-channel inputs for connecting a Dolby® Digital decoder or DVD player with built-in decoding.

With 100 watts per channel in stereo mode, or 100 watts x 5 in home theater mode, you get the multichannel power you need for sonic clarity, realism, and impact. Speaking of realism, the 'DE345's built-in Digital Signal Processing includes Digital Cinema Sound™ — exclusive soundfield circuitry based on acoustic measurements made at Sony Pictures Studios movie production stages. You'll hear movie soundtracks the way the producers and directors intended!

Features

Video Surround Modes:

  • Pro Logic:  Can select from three delay settings (S, M or L)
  • Cinema Studio: Reproduces the sound characteristics of a movie theater. Good for watching standard movies. Can select Effect level (1-6 in 6 steps)

Virtual Modes:

  • Dolby V: Uses front speakers only to create a virtual surround field
  • V Surround: Uses front and center speakers only to create a virtual surround field.  Note that this mode can be used when using the 5.1 Channel input ONLY!

Audio Mode (Does not use the center speaker):

  • Hall: Rectangular concert hall; ideal for soft acoustic sound - Can select Effect level (1-6 in 6 steps)

Center Modes: Center speaker can be set to Phantom (no center speaker), 3 channel (3 stereo) , Normal or Wide.

Tuner Presets: This unit has 30 presets which are categorized into either A,B, or C 0-9; you can shift from bank to bank from the unit and the remote.

Sound fields are linked to the source

Sleep Timer: Can be set up to 2 hours in half hour increments (remote only)

Preset/Program Memo: Preset stations and Program sources may be indexed by having up to 8 characters assigned for each preset or program source, thus, for example, two VCRs can be displayed as 8MM and VHS

Display: The display can be dimmed in three levels or turned off from the unit (not the remote)

Remote Control Functions

Power: There is a system off key on the remote which will turn off Sony components.

Compatibility: The factory setting of the function buttons can be changed, except for the TUNER button. The functions can be changed to control the following Sony equipment:

  • CD
  • DAT
  • MD
  • Tape Deck A
  • Tape Deck B
  • LD player
  • VCR (VTR settings of 1, 2 or 3)
  • TV
  • DBS  or DVD

There is a TV control on the remote that will switch the remote to operate the TV only (must be a Sony TV).

The remote transport, volume, channel and preset up/down and source keys glow in the dark (green)

The remote hides many of the less often used keys under a lid on the upper part of the remote. This includes a cursor/enter keys and VCR, DVD, and DBS Menus; DBS Guide and DVD Title

For Sony TVs with picture-in-picture functions the remote also controls the following functions:

  • POSITION= Changes the position of the small picture
  • SWAP= Changes the small and the large picture
  • P in P= Activates the picture-in-picture function
