Focusing on the TV fundamentals
The KDL-32EX400's mission is simple: deliver a gorgeous 1080p picture, and provide plenty of options for connecting your components. Four HDMI inputs let you enjoy the best possible picture from high-def sources like Blu-ray players, satellite TV receivers, and HD game consoles.

Smart features improve the picture while lowering energy use
Even Sony's budget models include features you rarely find on mystery-brand TVs. For example, a room light sensor enables the TV to automatically adjust the brightness based on your room's lighting conditions. When you settle in for a movie and dim the lights, this sensor dims the screen brightness, providing a more theater-like picture while also reducing energy use.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Free two-day UPS delivery for an item priced the same as local "discount
stores." EXACT description online of product. This TV met or exceeded my
expectations on all accounts. I was torn between a high quality Sony or a Vizio
with more features. I'm so glad I went with Crutchfield's expertise instead of a
lower quality brand from a lower quality retailer and chose quality over
supposed features. I've been a Crutchfield customer since 1993 because they
consistently reaffirm my opinion that they are the best electronics dealer
available.

Sony KDL-32EX400: Excellent TV @ Excellent Price

Written By Peter, Chicago, IL on Thursday, March 03, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sony is an excellent LCD television! Like many others, I checked the
reviews for this TV at many online sites, including Crutchfield. Most everyone
who bought the TV gave it 5 stars - very impressive. I also viewed this
television at a local store which convinced me this TV was the right one for me.

The picture is very clear and crisp, reflecting its 1080p resolution. High
definition broadcasts are especially sharp. The sound is excellent as well.

It was an easy decision to purchase this Sony at Crutchfield, since they offer
the lowest possible price combined with their well-known and well-deserved
polite, informative customer service and technical support. Crutchfield's
delivery was prompt and swift - I received the TV three business days after
placing my order.

Lastly, within a week of placing my order, the TV's price dropped by $50 and
Crutchfield promptly credited my account for the $50! That speaks volumes about
Crutchfield - they are a classy organization who believes in providing quality
products backed by superior customer service.

Better than my old one

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The screen is very clear, the sound is great when you use the theatre setting,
and overall I'm very happy with the purchase. The remote could use the a sleep
button so you don't have to use the menu. The assembly was very simple, and I
used the base instead of mounting it on the wall.

This TV is great for the bedroom, office or shop.

Sony KDL-32EX400 32" BRAVIA® 1080p LCD HDTV

Written By Carol Ann, Jacksonville, IL on Saturday, November 13, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After spending about one hour checking reviews on this item at different online sites, I decided it was the LCD TV I wanted. Even more important to me were customers who had purchased the TV. After finding 95% of customers who purchased it gave it a 5 star review, I began searching the web for the best price (including tax and when applicable, shipping). Crutchfield came out cheaper than everyone else and the lightning fast shipping and polite and intelligent customer service rep and promise of technical support were a big plus for me.

This TV is awesome~Vivid color display~Perfect picture on all channels~The sound is great and I haven't even hooked it up to my theater system yet~Lightweight~Stand keeps it from taking up much room and is very strong and secure as well as a snap to put together~Fabulous PC Monitor with HDMI~ and last, but not least, IT IS A SONY!

Defective TV

Written By Peter N, St. Louis, MO on Sunday, July 25, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was really excited about this new HD-TV; good price, very fast and uncomplicated shipping by Crutchfield, everything seemed OK. Too fast!
After unpacking and assembling the TV set, the picture had completely wrong colors (reddish) and no matter what I tried nothing worked. After spending 30 minutes on the SONY technical support line, it was clear that the "brand new" unit was defective and had to be returned. Did SONY fail in their in-house check? Who knows - but in the end I had all the hassle and 2 weeks more without a HD-TV.

Update: The replacement SONY HD-TV is working fine, picture is excellent.

Great TV for the bedroom

Written By Al, Scotia, NY on Friday, May 21, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This 32 inch LCD TV is great for the bedroom. Fits in my cabinet with room to spare. 1080p capability is great as I plan to get a Blue ray DVD player soon. About the same price as some other brands 720p models. Only have had it for a month, but works very nicely with a great picture.

If is as good as other SONY products, I expect years of use with no problems.

Amazing T.V

Written By rlipnitsky, Brooklyn,NY on Friday, April 23, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a step up from a old flat tube tv and all I can say is wow. Its amazing.
pros:4 hdmi ports, pc input(vga), bright crisp picture, not noticeable blur even though its 60Hz
cons: speakers are kinda puny but it gets loud enough for an average room (should be hooked up to separate speakers but is acceptable without), no headphone out just a red white and optical audio out

overall im glad I purchased this t.v , still kinda hard to decide whether to leave the light sensor on or off since its a nice feature and it seems useful but i dont know if I want the tv backlight to dim when I dim the rooms lights

Video Features

NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuners: The TV is equipped with an analog NTSC tuner, a digital ATSC/8VSB tuner, and a digital QAM tuner for receiving unscrambled digital cable channels. It is not CableCARD compatible. You do not need to connect an external HDTV set-top box in order to receive High-Definition programming.

Native Resolution: The KDL-32EX400 has a full HD native resolution of 1920 x 1080 with over 2 million pixels (more than twice the pixels of 720p HDTV). The TV's four HDMI inputs can accept 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p and 1080/24p signals, and the two component video inputs can accept 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p signals. All video signals from standard definition and high definition are upconverted to 1080p.

Bravia Engine 2 Fully Digital Video Processor: The Bravia Engine 2 fully digital video processor uses a collection of unique Sony technologies to significantly reduce noise, enhance overall image detail, and optimize contrast so every scene produces sharp, vibrant, life-like images and color.

4 HDMI Inputs: The KDL-32EX400 features four HDMI inputs (2 Rear/2 Side). The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) terminals provide an uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. The HDMI input will accept 1080/24p, 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. The rear HDMI 1 input shares a 3.5mm audio jack with the television's PC input. With an HDMI-to-DVI cable, you can connect the TV to a DVI-equipped A/V component. When connecting to a DVI-equipped component, the 3.5mm audio input is used and separate minijack audio cable must be connected.

24pTrue Cinema (24p Input Capability): Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p input capability via HDMI on this television producing images that are smooth and natural looking.

2 Component Video Inputs: The two rear-panel component video inputs will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. If needed, Component Video 1 can be used as a composite video input instead.

Ambient Sensor: The television's Ambient Sensor automatically adjusts the picture color based on your room's lighting, so you get a natural looking picture whether you are watching TV late at night or during the day.

LightSensor Technology: The television's integrated LightSensor technology automatically increases or decreases the level of brightness of the TV's backlight based on your room's lighting conditions. When you dim the lights to watch a movie, the TV's sensor dims the backlight, which also helps reduce unnecessary power consumption.

Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE): The televisions Advance Contrast Enhancer (ACE) automatically adjusts backlight and contrast to the most suitable setting judging from the brightness of the screen. This setting is especially effective for dark scenes, and will increase the contrast distinction for the darker picture scenes. The ACE can be set to High, Medium, Low, or Off.

Screen Modes: You can choose from the following Screen Modes:

  • 4:3 Default:
    • Wide Zoom: Enlarges the center portion of the 4:3 picture proportionately, while the left and right edges of the screen are stretched to fill the screen
    • Normal: Displays the 4:3 picture in its original size with black bars at the left and right sides to fill the screen (available for 480i or 480p sources)
    • Full: Stretches the entire 4:3 picture horizontally only to fill the screen
    • Zoom: Enlarges the entire 4:3 picture proportionately to fill the screen (useful for watching Letterbox movies)
  • 16:9 Wide Mode:
    • Wide Zoom: Enlarges the picture to fill the screen with minimal distortion
    • Normal: Displays a 4:3 picture in its original aspect ratio when the original source is 4:3 (available for 480i or 480p sources)
    • Full: Displays the picture at its original size
    • Zoom: Enlarges the picture proportionately, both vertically and horizontally
    • Full Pixel: Display the picture in its native resolution for 720p, 1080i, and 1080p formats only (excluding Cable/Antenna input)
  • Auto Wide: Automatically changes screen settings base upon incoming video signal and content.

MPEG Noise Reduction: This feature reduces the picture noise in MPEG-compressed videos. This is effective when viewing a DVD or digital broadcast. You can set the level of noise reduction to High, Medium, Low, or Off.

Advanced Video Settings: In addition to the Picture mode, the Advanced Video Settings menu also features the following:

  • Gamma: Adjusts the balance between bright and dark areas of the picture.
  • Clear White: Emphasizes white and light colors. It can be set to High, Low, or Off.
  • Live Color: Makes colors more vivid and reproduces clear skin tones. It can be set to High, Medium, Low, or Off.
  • White Balance: Adjusts the color temperature color by color.
  • Black Corrector: Enhances black areas of the picture for stronger contrast. The Black Corrector can be set to High, Medium, Low, or Off.
