Sony's first-generation 4K TVs demonstrated how exciting this new hyper-realistic viewing experience could be. The 65" XBR-65X850A is part of their second-generation family of 4K sets. This new model is much sleeker and slimmer, but what matters most is the picture, of course, and this new XBR delivers the spectacular detail we expect from Ultra High Definition TV.
Ultra HD can enhance the quality of everything you watch, with a screen that has four times the resolution of a regular "full HD" 1080p TV. Sony teams this 4K screen technology with their unique TRILUMINOS LED backlighting, which provides more depth and shades of color than you've probably ever seen before. To enjoy a theater-like 4K viewing experience at home, connect this TV to Sony's FMP-X1 4K Ultra HD media player, which lets you access a library of full-length 4K Ultra HD feature films and TV shows from your living room. You can download titles from Sony's Video Unlimited 4K Store and load them on the FMP-X1's built-in 2-terabyte hard drive.
The XBR-65X850A's screen contains over 8 million pixels (3,840 x 2,160) — the higher pixel density is easily visible. Equally important to the overall viewing experience is Sony's 4K expertise, which extends from "lens to living room." They build professional 4K cameras and cinema projectors, and Sony Pictures has a bigger catalog of 4K films than any other studio. This end-to-end approach helps ensure that XBR owners can have a truly theater-like experience at home.
True 4K content will be scarce for a while, but that shouldn't keep you from considering this TV. Based on ten years' experience upscaling movies to 4K in over 15,000 theaters worldwide, Sony has developed a processor so advanced it can upscale HD content to 4K quality. This 4K X-Reality™ Pro chip enhances picture quality by analyzing and correcting images, resulting in impressively natural detail and color. You'll see the benefits of X-Reality Pro on everything from Blu-ray discs to Netflix® movies to video clips from your smartphone. X-Reality Pro enhances detail and reduces video noise by drawing on a database of real patterns, shapes and textures to display a startlingly lifelike picture. You also get Sony's highest level of motion processing, Motionflow™ XR 960, which maintains clear motion even with fast-action content.
SimulView gaming presents two different full-screen pictures at once, so two players can enjoy an immersive view without a split screen. Two pairs of SimulView glasses are included.
Unique to Sony, TRILUMINOS Display LED backlighting creates remarkably pure, lifelike colors. This cutting-edge "quantum dot" technology achieves a wider color range. Even hard-to-reproduce shades like deep reds and emerald greens are displayed beautifully.
This is a 3D TV, and the XBR-65X850A's 3840 x 2160-pixel screen resolution enhances clarity for both 2D and 3D viewing. You can enjoy full HD 3D right away — four pairs of active 3D glasses are included. This TV's advanced screen technology also makes it possible to enjoy two-player gaming on the same TV without the need for a split screen. Two players can compete independently and see the action on a full screen. There are already a number of SimulView™ game titles available for PlayStation® 3, and two pairs of SimulView glasses are included with this TV.
The XBR-65X850A has built-in Wi-Fi® so you can stream exciting HD entertainment straight from the web. You can access an endless selection of entertainment at the Sony Entertainment Network, where thousands of movies, TV shows, videos, games and music are always at your fingertips. And connect to even more movies, music and apps by wirelessly mirroring what's on your compatible Android™ smartphone.
Movie theaters have switched to 4K projectors in recent years, and now you can enjoy amazing 4K picture quality at home. Ultra HD TVs with 4K resolution offer four times the detail of 1080p HDTVs. Some major TV makers offer media players so you can download and watch true 4K content for the best possible picture. Netflix® is already streaming some of their content in 4K, and other services plan to offer 4K video later this year.
Spectacular Television from Crutchfield arrived in beautiful condition literally one day after I ordered it. Theyre in Virginia. Im in NY so I was really impressed. Called the support a few times prior to purchasing and as always so grateful for the wise and friendly folks at Crutchfield who were helpful and truly pivotal in my purchasing this television. The television is a knockout from the moment I opened the box and set up was a true breeze looking magnificent with no customization whatsoever. Right outa the box it was freaking awesome! Colors and sharpness the ULTIMATE on this television. I studied in stores the LG 65 4K, the Samsung 65 4k and the Sony. I asked sales people for their personal opinion and 5 out of 5 said "ARE YOU KIDDING? THE SONY HANDS DOWN!!" I had the clerk put in not only a regular dvd but a blu-ray also and truly found the pictures of both simply breathtaking. The Sony with its Renaissance reds and impala blues just rocked my eyes into a momentary lapse of reason (thanks Pink Floyd), and I found myself DREAMING about this TV in the weeks before I bought it. Im not kidding. Being a true movie finatac I had to have it. It has been about 3 weeks now and I treasure simply turning it on each night and watching the Sony logo embrace my vision. Clearity is simply spectacular. 4K videos just drop dead amazing. The ONLY reason I am giving this TV 4 stars out of 5 is that my previous plasma had better blacks on regular cable television.
Pros: The pros are simple. The best picture out there. Colors bright and strong with immaculata coming from the heavens above. Sharpness is unreal with the 4k kicking my standard blu-rays up to nirvana induced bliss. This television has changed my lowly viewing into a cataclysmic embryonic experience. Perhaps I am smoking my underwear on that statement but I say NO!! This television is simply amazing. I hope your listening Sony as I would be proud to travel the world praising its beauty. Amen.
Cons: The cons of this television are basic. Viewing from the sidelines presents the colors becoming just a shade lighter. The television is meant to be viewed from directly in front. The Sony 4k box included is pretty much a Sony attempt at becoming a 4k Netflix and had I actually paid the 699.00 originally wanted I would have been sadly dissapointed at the expense and password logging in is a true drag. Sound could be better from the set itself but I am hooked up to my stereo so its a mute point.
Excellent product and timely delivery. Set-up was relatively simple with great results. Picture is truly outstanding. Although the price had come down at time of purchase, it's still somewhat expensive. The "refresh rate" spec. is not as high as on some other TV's, however I have found no problems regarding movement with high speed picture content.
Pros: Outstanding picture quality.
Well after biting the bullet & nervously awaiting my plunge into future technology I can say no regrets. Managed to find a blogger who shared professional tuning of picture specifications I'm a fan. I won't add any fancy explicate comments but this is the business I'm not easily pleased being an artist & have found utter delight in this product. I couldn't bring myself to buy media player for 10 movies & some documentaries to show off new toy. Netflix will ultimately provide our content when available but this is an opinion only Sony will ultimately decide who is provider. Only time will tell of course. Anyway I have & would recommend this to my friends & have hope this helps those heeding advice.
Cons: Web browser pain in rear! Some apps have caused tv to shut down when it gets stuck but I'm using wireless connection so perhaps speed is an issue but I really doubt it probably teething problems with technology?
I was dubious at first when I heard how much sharper and clearer the colors would be on the 4K XBRs. That quickly changed from the moment I turned the TV on! My wife is a doubting Thomas, but even she had to admit that it was the picture was much clearer and brighter on the TV. Since she is an artist, I tied the TV into our home network and connected it our NAS, which contains all the digital photographs we have ever taken. We both have enjoyed looking at pictures we took of Europe and of family holidays. The TV and technology are amazing!
I have had the 65X850A for about a week now. I really like it. The picture is awesome, set up and configuration were a breeze. Im using a Sound bar so am not reviewing the speakers/sound of the unit. Im upgrading from a 65" DLP TV so this really impresses compared to that. Colors are bright, the Contrast ratio is good, no dark corners. BluRay and 4K content are phenomenal on this unit.
Pros: Easy to set up Bright Colors Excellent contrast Cannot find anything to complain about.
Cons: Probably the built in speakers but this was bought specifically to be used with a Sound Bar.
Fantastic product. As much difference as there was between color and B&W TV. Set up was easy. Quality is unbelievable. Terrific service and "White Glove" delivery made getting it ready for simple hook-up a breeze.
Pros: Super high res. and three D on a 65-inch screen. Terrific.
Cons: Nothing could be any better. A but pricey but worth it.
The Sony 4K picture is incredible. Beautiful colors & sharp picture in 1080i and using the ultra HD capability it becomes breathtaking. To realize the capabilities it is mandatory to buy the Sony 4k player. It is a very reasonably priced addition to the TV.. Also a.high date rate ( > 25 MB/s down load) internet service is needed. A very important note: a very large & loud thank you to Crutchfield! Your after sale support & follow up is truly superior & we are most grateful to all for their assistance to correct a delivery issue which was not Crutchfield's fault.

24pTrue Cinema (24p Input Capability): Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p input capability via HDMI on this television producing images that are smooth and natural looking.

And since each frame you see is shown at Full HD resolution, the 3D action still offers razor-sharp detail. You can adjust the following 3D settings.
Automatic Intelligence: The TV's built-in Light Sensor automatically adjusts the picture brightness based on the amount of light in the room. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection, and USB input can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.

This is my receiver Onkyo TX-NR818 and I love it [ Herbert Dec 06, 2013 ]
I recently answered Andre's question and inadvertantly said my AV receiver was a Yamaha. My bad. It is an Onkyo. Sorry for the confusion. [ HENRY F Dec 05, 2013 ]
Congratulations on getting a Sony 4k.It is terrific.and your speakers aaaa. I use a Yamaha TX-SR707 as my AV receiver. However, it is several years old and will not pass 3D signals. So, when watching 3D, I have to switch to TV sound. Not a great arrangement. One day, I will have to upgrade my AV receiver but I will never own anything but a Yamaha. It's features are terrific.. If i read your question correctly, you are also [planning on buying a sound bar. That is not necessary if you use an AV receiver and you have good quality speakers. Hope that helps. Regards, [ HENRY F Dec 05, 2013 ]
To continue I used 8 the inch mini to connect to the headphone out jack. If You do this you will have to go into the tv setting and change to audio out in the headphone jack. This will allow you to use all other components that is plug into your tv. Hope this helps. We really like the Bose 10. [ CHARLES J Dec 05, 2013 ]
