Mirror your phone

What used to sound like something straight out of the imagination of a science fiction writer is now very much a reality. Using Miracast™ technology, the BDP-S3200 lets you “push” what you see on your smartphone or tablet onto your HDTV. Watch a slide show of pictures from your latest trip or share a wacky video you shot of the dog or your kids. Wirelessly display it all on the big screen for everyone to enjoy.

Binge-watchers welcome

Say you're catching up on that show that everyone talks about. You plowed through the first two seasons on one of the streaming services. Now you're ready to jump into that Season Three Blu-ray box set you received as a gift. Pop the first disc in the 'S3200 and within seconds you'll be immersed in the beautiful scenery and hanging on every line of dialogue. You'll be hard pressed to find a machine more equipped to handle and assist your marathon viewing.

Installation was a snap! The player performed much better than expected. For someone as myself--technologically challenged--I found the player easy to use and program. It worked hand-in-hand with my Sony flat screen TV. I would rate it as being very good to the best.

Defective piece; that degraded in performance over time; now unusable

Written by: Jawahar from Cupertino, CA on April 23, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Opening an app like Netflix now takes minutes, if it opens at all. When new it worked fine. My take it that there is some manufacturer defect and the software updates provided by Sony manifested that defect. Completely unusable at this time. And Crutchfield just told me they can do nothing about it. The tech support guy suggested I may want to purchase a new one.

Pros: compact size

Cons: does not do what it should; none of the streaming apps can be used.

CLEAR & SHARP

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a player to view my Blu-ray and home video dvds. I had purchased another brand to do this but it would not properly play our home videos of our vacations. They would always pause and skip when nearing the end. This is not the case with this Sony player. We are now enjoying viewing all of our dvds.

Pros: Easy to set up and register. Works great on all dvds.

Cons: None.

Sony BDP-S3200 Bluray Player

Written by: GregGA from Georgia on April 5, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two of these units to upgrade some very old DVD players from Pioneer. Setup was a snap, updated the content and setup my Amazon Prime video account and I was ready to go in 20 minutes for both players. The video quality and the overall quality is excellent. Although Crutchfield no longer sells them but they are still available in many stores online and brick-and-mortar.

Pros: Easy setup, easy to use and excellent picture quality.

Cons: It's not free.

Disfunctional Enhanced Functionality

Written by: TH from Frisco, CO on March 23, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item primarily for its ability to connect wirelessly to my home network. Upon installing it, I realized that it was having issues connecting to my network, thus negating it's ability to utilize apps like Netflix, etc.

Pros: Blu-ray and dvd work as expected. Crutchfield's excellent customer service and return policy remains intact.

Cons: Wireless functionality seriously impaired. Extensive review of this item on various Sony forums and other online communities showed that many others had issues with this unit. Buyer beware.

Good basic bluray player

Written by: Karl from Maine on March 19, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Everything works on this nice little bluray player. Setup was easy and quick. Only once in two months did it fail to boot up and the remedy was to simply disconnect power to my wifi unit for a minute or two. The best news of all is that the remote from my old Sony bluray player works with this new BDP-S3200. Hooray! now I don't have to fumble with the ridiculous, midget-sized remote that came in the package. And, curiously, the old remote runs this new unit noticeably better. For example the pause and rewind functions are more responsive and quicker to activate! Go figure.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a blueray player that was inexpensive and had the features I use, i.e. netflix, amazon, etc. This player does the trick. I was a little disappointed that the top was "not" flat but it's overall size allowed me to place it where I can't put anything on top anyway. If you need to stack your components this will have to go on top. I am please with all functions so far.

Pros: price, size, connectivity

Angular Box Shape

Written by: JohnD from the Washington, DC Areae r on February 4, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am totally satisfied with performance of this unit and the small size is what I wanted for use in my RV. One tradeoff and one drawback follow. Due to the size constarints there is no message screen that indicates staus of operation, eg, "power on", "opening" and "reading disc". The other factor is that the sides are not vertical and the top is not flat both of which complicated custom brackets I made to secure the installation in a mobile platform.

Pros: compactness

Cons: no screen readout, angular shape

Sony BDP-S3200

Written by: Hal from United States on January 30, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item from Crutchfield in August 2014. Shortly after the 60-day Crutchfield return policy ended, my Sony Blu-ray device developed a problem. The remote would not turn on the player, and even trying manually to turn on the device did not work. But oddly, once I unplugged it from the wall and plugged it back in, everything worked as it should. Then after turning it off, it will not turn back on unless I unplug it from the wall again. I've contacted Sony support and found that Sony's product support is quite lacking. The short version is that I am going to have to eat this device. Although still under warranty, Sony will not replace the unit. In the future, I will not recommend any Sony products to my friends or anyone else who might ask me about them. Are there any electronics manufacturers that have support in the U.S.? It's quite frustrating having bought this in America, yet when I get customer support, I end up with someone from another country that I cannot understand their speech. No I do not recommend this product nor do I recommend Sony.

Pros: Nice streaming capabilities.

Cons: Defective unit. Sony will not replace the unit even though it is still under warranty.

Replaced a 5-year old Sony unit that was twice the size, twice the weight, and definitely on its last legs. Love the small size, the picture quality, that it's inexpensive, and can't believe we can actually watch movies all the way through without the player stopping. It definitely made a positive difference that we also purchased a new HDMI cable.

Pros: Crutchfield is great to work with. We're lucky -- they're just down the street.

Pros: Small compact size. Easy to set up using the instructions. The unit has many more features as compared to my old unit. it seems to load quickly.

Cons: A backlit remote would be helpful.

Very good product for the lower end of the price scale. Connection and setup instructions were easy to follow. The remote control features are intuitive, with an uncluttered design. Well worth the price.

Pros: Good price-to-benefit ratio Solid design for the player and the remote Wi-Fi performance is good

Cons: Remote control buttons should be backlit.

Small but well equipped

Written by: JPC from MT Pleasant, PA on January 8, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit is small/compact and feature-filled. Netflix and other apps work very well. Very quick loading compared to my previous "blu-ray" player. Price was a bargain. This unit has many more features and better performance than my older "bdp" at about 1/4 the price!

Pros: Quick performance, great apps, small size, low price

Cons: Small size looks a little odd next to other home theater equipment. Remote should be "back-lit" for use in darker rooms, all remotes for all equipment should be as well!

So far it has been a great addition. Performs well and is a good, small footprint in the cabinet. Worth the $$ so far.

Pros: Super easy setup. Performs well.

Cons: No cables in the box with this particular model but that really is the norm now anyway so this is just a note more than a real complaint.

Great Player for the Price

Written by: Bill T. from North Carolina on November 19, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little BluRay player. Easy set-up, quick load time and several improvements over previous simular Sony models, such as removeable power cord, redesigned control buttons on unit (now only two- power and open/close) and redesigned remote that is more compact but easier to use remote..

Pros: Easy set-up, quick load, great picture quality even with standard DVDs. Only two buttons on unit itself making it easier not to hit the wrong button.

Cons: Domed top which keeps you from putting anything on top of unit.

Cons: Lacks visible controls while in cabinet.

Sony BDP-S3200 DVD PLAYER

Written by: Anonymous from Denver CO on September 9, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great piece of hardware -- especially the wireless feature -- which seems to be better for watching youtube than our relatively new PC. However the documentation definitely needs a workover i.e., written by users and not the Sony tech people. For its customers, Crutchfield needs to include a short flyer which has all the info/links on how to co-ordinate your now "internet TV per Sony DVD" with a tablet such as ipad. What are the trusted apps that we can use so that we can control internet tv from our mobile device(s)?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product for the small amount of money. Ease of use make it one of the best user friendly products out in electronics heaven

Pros: Easy to set up and use immediately. Great remote control package. HDMI output and a coax outlet if you want sound going to a receiver that does not have an HDMI input.

Cons: Can not think of any

Well, this is an odd device

Written by: J.R. from Maple Shade NJ on August 24, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Priced correctly, but no photo of the rear of the unit when I ordered it. Vola, it only has HDMI and COAX outputs, which is Okay for a Sound Bar, not for a Computer. So, I acquired a PCI Sound card for my HP Evo D510 CMT PC (specifically a Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card) and after quite a few tries to obtain the correct drivers for both Windows XP and Windows 8 I got it to work using the S/PDIF interface.

Pros: Plays all standard Bluray, DVD content and Streaming in DTS/Dolby HD 5.1

Cons: No 3D, no 4K no Composite Video, no L/R audio outputs.

No

Written by: Eric from Chappaqua, NY on August 21, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Didn't really use it that much. Its shape is ridiculous. It has a dome so that you can't place it underneath anything. Originally purchased for its "Smart" features but its built in wifi only supports 2.4gHz, The blu ray player it was to replace is a couple of year old Sony player which works well but doesn't have the smart features. The older model is built like a brick, the new one is very light and very fragile feeling. I just replaced the TV with a smart TV instead and this blu ray player will collect dust as a back up.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Odd domed shaped makes it impossible to stack. Does not support 5gHz wifi.

Pros: So small, I was so happy to get rid of the big old DVD player and Wii off my TV table. Love the Netflix button on remote. Has a good amount of Apps.

Great Player at a Good Price

Written by: JLBS from Toa Baja, PR on July 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The BDP-S32 is a good buy for the features. It's small size makes it great to place just about anywhere. Apart from not having analog audio outputs, this player does the same thing and more, than the older player which I replaced with the BDP-S32. Only draw back is that I had to move it around in order to find that perfect spot for strongest reception of the WiFi signal. I did not have that problem with my older Sony player. Regardless, I recommend the BDP-S32. Is a great buy at a good price.

Pros: Small size makes it easy to place.

Cons: Not too great for WiFi reception. No Analog (RCA) Audio output.

New life for disc player

Written by: Parshooter from San Francisco, CA on June 23, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For only a bit more money than a pure, data streaming device, you can have a new DVD/Blu-ray box that also functions as your video streamer. This one works well for Amazon Prime, Netflix and the others. I recognized our wifi quickly and streams well even though our ATT DSL is not very fast. With streaming taking over for video, this function gives new life to a dying product category.

Pros: Small, powerful and inexpensive.

Cons: None that I can see.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Small package, big features! When I opened the box i surprised by the size but once i set it up, in just minutes...wow! The WIFI worked perfectly, I hooked up with Netflix, Amazon, etc. in no time (though wouldn't it be nice if there was voice command rather than using the remote to put in passwords, etc?) and pretty quickly my sweetie and i were watching tv like it was the 21st century! oh and speaking of my sweetie, she just loves the way this machine works which means super bonus points for yours truly! Thanks Crutchfield! you done did it again!

Pros: intuitive set up, quick connection, and download. Plays blu ray discs perfectly and streams on line movies without hesitation.

Cons: using the remote to key in passwords, etc. can be tedious but once you're done...sit back and enjoy!

SONY BR/DVD player BDP-S3200

Written by: Jim from Monroe, NY on May 26, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed Sony compatible BR/DVD player that would use SONY sync feature to allow one remote operation with my current Sony HDTV. Also wanted compact unit and fast operation. This unit met all my expectations and had a quick operation of playing my DVDs.

Pros: Very compact unit, easy cable hookup, Sync operation works great with the small remote supplied. This allows a quick and easy return to my cablevision (Optimum) remote use. It has built in wifi for easy update of this player and offers many services. I haven't tried any of these features yet. Reasonably priced and good service and reliably shipped quickly and on time. After using this unit I bought a second one for my other large screen HDTV too.

Cons: No complaints so far

Best bdp out there. If you don't need or want 3D, don't pay extra for it! This player does it all well. I wish it was wireless AC compatible but the competing brands aren't either. I love the size and features and preferred this Sony over the Panasonic, LG or Samsung. Crutchfield had the best price I could find and I have bought from them before with excellent results! Free and FAST shipping!! Very pleased with both the Sony AND Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy to set up and operate. Excellent wireless N performance.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Combines a blu-ray player with streaming programs from the internet. Previously had NetFlix on a Roku device in the upstairs bedroom that wasn't getting much use, but now that we can get NetFlix in the family room I am certain it will get much more use. My grandson loves Thomas and Friends and we get hours of uninterrupted Thomas with the new device.

Pros: Built-in WiFi for Streaming from the web.

Cons: Not really a con, but the device is not much bigger than the Roku device and has the blu-ray player as a plus.

Video Section

HDMI (ver.1.3): The BDP-S3200's HDMI (v.1.3) output simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio in one cable. The HDMI resolution can be fixed at 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, or set to Auto, which selects the highest resolution accepted by your television.

Note: This player does not offer any analog audio/video outputs.

Precision Cinema HD Upscaling: Through the HDMI output, the BDP-S3200 is capable of upscaling the resolution of your standard DVDs. Output options include Auto (highest resolution accepted by the TV), 1080p (60 Hz video or 24 Hz), 1080i, or 720p. If necessary the output resolution can also be set to 480p or 480i. You can also choose to bypass the Blu-ray player's scaler, so the source material's original resolution is passed to your connected TV.

24p Output: Movies are typically recorded on film with a frame rate of 24 frames per second. When a movie is transferred to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second the BDP-S3200 will output that signal to the TV (if the TV will accept the 1080p/24 format) with no need for conversion.

Triluminos Color: The BDP-S3200 Blu-ray player incorporates Sony's Triluminos Color technology to provide a wider color gamut with rich, authentic color and a far more natural viewing experience with a heightened sense of depth.

Deep Color: The Sony Blu-ray player supports a color depth of up to 12 bits. Connecting the player and a TV that supports Deep Color via HDMI allows more accurate color reproduction than when connecting it to a TV that does not support Deep Color. The Deep Color function can be set to 10-bit, 12-bit, Auto, or Off.

  • DVD Aspect Ratio: You can select the display configuration for playback of 16:9 screen pictures on a 4:3 screen TV. You can select from Letter Box or Pan & Scan.

Cinema Conversion Mode: The Sony Blu-ray player offers two Cinema Conversion Modes - (1) Auto mode automatically detects whether the material is video-based or film-based, and switches to the appropriate conversion method. (2) The Video mode is suited for video-based material and will always be selected regardless of the content.

BonusView: The BonusView feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The only video output on the Sony Bluray would be an HDMI connection and that would be the type of cable you would need. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jul 22, 2014 ]  Staff
