This simple and inexpensive box has the latest 3D software, which is what we needed to light up our new OLED TV (also from Crutchfield). Easy to use, small footprint, and comes with plenty of streaming software, too.

Nice but not great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is a nice piece to watch blue rays but internet connection and processor doesn't seems to be good enough. After the firmware upgrade, it was frozen and i had to unplugged it. won't help you on 1080 and forget about 4k from Netflix. My Vizio P70 has a much better processot to stream Netflix 4k content.

Pros: Crutchfield delivery is still top. Easy to setup. Nice looking piece. Light. Excellent blueray playbak. Finally a good remote control from Sony.

Cons: Not so good for streaming. Although it does the upscale from blueray to almost 4k, streaming looks as bad as my previous 2011 Sony player, which I sustituted with this one.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This BRP is a pretty nice player, and that's before you consider the very reasonable cost. It performs well, plays just about disc, including SACDs, puts out a really good picture with deep rich blacks, and bright vibrant colors. It is easy to configure, the onscreen display is one of the best I have ever seen. Easy to manipulate and easy to use.

The device will output DSD over HDMI when playing SACDs, which is very important to us. When playing BR video discs, it will also do very nice upscaling, either to 1080p or to 4K outputs. It connects cleanly to the network and can browse and play Audio, Video, and Photo's from our network. Or DLNA based server can see the device as a renderer, and send Audio or Video to it, which it handles very well. It can also stream from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and plethora of other sources. It does a very good job of displaying streamed video, though the ATV-Gen3 still presents a better picture and an easier to navigate menu. It easily competes head on with a Roku3 though, both in usability, streaming, and audio/video quality.

The device loads discs very quickly, and has no trouble playing even very detailed video with complex hi-res audio tracks.

The only downside is the device itself does not feel solid, with a plastic feel and a very loosey-goosey triangular button on top. See Pros and Cons below for more details.

Pros: Plays video beautifully Plays all audio, including SACDs with audiophile quality sound Outputs DSD over the HDMI connection, or converts DSD to 24/176.4 LPCM output Fast Great GUI menu Large selection of streaming services Streamed video looks better than average Streams Audio/Video from our home network with ease Excellent cost/performance.

Cons: Wireless network is limited to 2.4ghz, much better performance using a wired connection Build quality is less than stellar, unit is very light, power on/off/eject button is only shaped (triangular) and feels like it might break if pressed too firmly No 7.1outputs When streaming Video over DLNA, it won't play all the available formats we normally scan into. Using remote to select music or video from large library is clumsy Top mirrored surface smudges very easily

Good Blu-ray Player

Written By BillyBob, Ohio on Sunday, March 15, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have used the player for about 2 months. Product is light weight and quite compact, but has a somewhat cheap plastic feel and appearance. The initial set-up was fast and easy. Unit works well with easy loading, very good picture quality, nice and simple remote operation. Operates well with both DVD & Blu-ray discs. Have not played a 3D disc yet. I don't use the streaming features since my UHDTV has these features. The unit froze up on one occasion after playing a DVD disc. Memory continued to display this movie even when I inserted other discs. Had to clear the memory, unplug and restart the unit in order to clear the problem. This issue has not occurred again. Overall, I'm satisfied with the unit and the pricing was right.

Pros: Easy of use. Unit has a light weight, compact design with 4K upscaling.

Cons: Has a cheap feel and appearance which is surprising for a Sony product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A couple of movie disks lagged upon loading, had to open and close the tray to start over. The unit just freezes up from time to time, using Netflix, etc. and none of the buttons on the remote work, even the power button. Also, the power button on the machine itself won't turn it off, you have to unplug the machine and plug back in. The machine has the latest firmware.

Pros: Plays discs quite well. Like the wifi accessibility.

Cons: Lag loading disks and remote freezing up and having to unplug and plug the machine to reset it and start all over again.

Cons: Cheaper plastic housing.

Sony BDP-S6200

Written By Stan, Hawaii on Sunday, December 21, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only had this BDP for about 2 weeks now, but have thoroughly enjoyed it. First, it was recommended (over another comparable BDP) by the Crutchfield agent, as having everything I wanted, and being possibly more compatible with my Sony 72" TV as well as my home theater system. I'm glad I took his advice. It arrive in 2-3 days, which for delivery to Hawaii is extraordinary. Set up was easy and quick. So far, everything I've tested has performed flawlessly, as the agent said it should. Blue Ray disks play beautifully; both video and sound quality of movies is great. But the part I've enjoyed the most is the apps/features that I can play. Pandora, and YouTube - in particular - are easily accessed through the menu, and again the sound quality and video quality as excellent. Wireless internet access through the built in Wi-Fi are as seamless and smooth running as on my desk-top computer. I really appreciate the recommendation, and am loving the Sony BDP-S6200.

Pros: Easy of navigation to preloaded apps. Good wireless connectivity. Great video and sound quality.

Cons: None noted yet.

The Jury is still out on this item

Written By Anonymous, New York on Sunday, November 23, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had this item for a couple of weeks now and had to call Crutchfield to replace the unit. The HDMI up-scaling crapped out. Crutchfield as usual, recognized the symptom and quickly replace the item not charge. These people are great. I will see how this new one performs and give and update later. It does look great when it worked.

Pros: small easy to use has a nice picture

Cons: At this point seems unreliable hoping for the best.

Easy to use

Written By Jerry, California on Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got it for my mother to use with Netflix. She had some problems with her old BluRay and couldn't get a signal from her upstairs bedroom. The wireless router is downstairs away from her room. Plus since she's not mechanically inclined, it's good to have a Nextflix button on the remote. Quick loading of DVDs & BluRays. Now my dad and I don't need to feel guilty about watching college football on Saturdays. Crutchfield as always lends top support and if you change your mind, easy returns.

Pros: Duo Core processor means quick loading of DVDs/BluRays and fast streaming of Netflix with no breaks in the video. Unobtrusive, small unit which is aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: Could be a little sturdier. (But that's to be expected in this price range)

Meets all my needs

Written By BillJ, Sunset Beach, NC on Sunday, November 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Before buying this article, I did a chat with a concern about the function of the product with one of Crutch-fields Tech. I have a Samsung TV in one part of a room and a Sony amp/receiver in another, both connected with one long HDMI cable. I wanted to be sure the Sony DVD could be connected to only the amp/receiver and still play it's video though and on to the TV without need to run any additional long cable runs. I was assured it would work that way. And so it did. It was quit easy to set up and now I have great DVD video with surround sound. Thanks Crutchfield. Great service. You're number one in my book.

Pros: Easy set up. Integrates well with other Sony devices. Many good features for the price.

Cons: Better integration of Sony remotes would be a plus.

Very easy to hook up and operate. Excellent picture resolution and pauses crystal clear. NetFlix also easy to use. Does not come with anything like a users manual, as most things these days, so still discovering all this player can do.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This review is based on about 2 weeks of usage. Picture and audio are very good. Huge selection of streaming options. Worked right out of the box. I don't own a 4k TV, so I can't comment on this upscale feature. If not for the con below, I'd give it 5 stars.

Pros: Small footprint, very good picture and audio. Endless number of channels for streaming. Some are even useful...

Cons: When unit was set to normal start, it wouldn't turn on the next day, unless I unplugged it first. When I set it to quick start, the problem was gone. I called Crutchfield and they don't know of a cure for this model, but they said other Sony models had the same issue and they fixed it with Firmware update. We agreed to wait 60 days for a fix. If not they'll replace the unit for me. Another minor con: The remote must be pointed at the unit in order to operate.

Replaced an older Sony Blu-Ray with this Blu-ray player to use with my Samsung 4K TV. Easily installed and recognized by the TV. Just turn it on and the TV displays it immediately. Great upscale to 4K. All at a very attractive price from the best supplier you could want.

Pros: This has all the features you could ask for.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Good Lil Blu Ray DVD Player

Written By kentcoee, Birmingham, AL on Monday, September 22, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this DVD player because it is WiFi Ready and we wanted to use Netflix to view programs/movies we have missed. Setup was easy. The only issue I ran into was not the fault of this product. I needed a WiFi signal booster so the DVD Player could access the internet and Netflix. A nuance I have noticed is I need to manually connect to my WiFi Home Network every time I turn on the DVD player to access Netflix.

Pros: It works as advertised. Compact, lightweight. Blu Ray 3-D.

Cons: Manually connect to my WiFi Home Network every time I turn on the DVD player to access Netflix, but not a deal breaker.

Nice Small DVD Player

Written By Fab4fan4ever2014, Washington DC on Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little DVD player is a winner. Picture is great and no problems setting it up to the TV. Has some great Apps too.

Pros: Nice picture quality and easy set up. I purchased this because I wanted a 4K upscale for my new Sony 4K TV. Also, it's small and fits nicely right next to the TV...you can hardly see it. I still have an older Blu-ray Panasonic (mental unit) that works just fine, so I have both hooked up. Use the Sony for movies and the Panasonic for music.

Cons: It's made of plastic and I would prefer mental, but, the mental units are more costly now. Feels cheap, but, works fine so far.

I'm very pleased with my Sony BDP-S6200. It's a great fit for my 55" BDR-850 4K tv, Sony Media Player, and Sony STR-DN1040 receiver. Blue ray movies come in great. You'll be blown away with the system.

Pros: Great quality of blue ray movies. Upgrade in quality of movies toward 4k works perfectly with my other Sony components. Great Sony support for getting my system set up. Great Crutchfield sales people and a worry free company to deal with over the phone or internet .

Cons: It little pricey but well worth it.

BDP-S6200

Written By mr_, Augusta, KS. on Sunday, May 04, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced a BDP-S500 with this unit. The S500 stated having issues between scenes of blu rays and then the remote became MIA. The BDP-S6200 is a lot smaller and lighter than the S500. This model was picked becuase it had netflix, and supported the higher end HD audio. The out of the box setup ws easy. unpack and plug it in.The first thing I noticed is this unit boots up way faster than the S500. Connecting to our home network wa simple, as was setting up our existing Netflix account. I am using an Onkyo TX-Sr604 and wanted it to process the audio, I had trouble figuing it out. I called crutchfield and they told me what to change. The video and audio are better on the S6200 than the S500. My 5 and 7 year old can run netflix and Youtube without any trouble. For the money this is a good unit. Several days after this was in use it quit streaming Netflix and Youtube. Troubleshooting this was intresting the unit said it was connected to the interternet but wasn't registered with some sever. I restarted my modem, router and S6200. That solved the initial issue. Now the unit just freezes up from time to time and has to be unplugged and plugged back in. This is my reason for 3 star. I am sure they will have a software update that wil resolve it soon. Another annoying thing is you have to be on the home screen to hit the Netflix button and have it go it Netflix

Pros: Fast boot goot video and audio Youtube netflix DTS HD audio 4K 1080P upconversion

Cons: unit freezes up Netflix button on remote

Video Section

HDMI (ver.1.4): The BDP-S6200's HDMI (v.1.4) output simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio in one cable. The HDMI resolution can be fixed at 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, or set to Auto, which selects the highest resolution accepted by your television.

Note: This player does not offer any analog audio/video outputs.

4K Upscaling: Through the HDMI output, the BDP-S6200 is capable of upscaling the resolution of your Blu-ray and DVD discs, as well as network and USB streaming content. Output options include Auto (highest resolution accepted by the TV), 4K, 1080p (60 Hz video or 24 Hz), 1080i, or 720p. If necessary the output resolution can also be set to 480p or 480i.

24p Output: Movies are typically recorded on film with a frame rate of 24 frames per second. When a movie is transferred to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second the BDP-S6200 will output that signal to the TV (if the TV will accept the 1080p/24 format) with no need for conversion.

Triluminos Color: The BDP-S6200 Blu-ray player incorporates Sony's Triluminos Color technology to provide a wider color gamut with rich, authentic color and a far more natural viewing experience with a heightened sense of depth.

3D-Ready w/ 2D-3D Conversion: The Sony BDP-S6200 lets you enjoy 3D Blu-ray disc movies in full HD 1080p. 3D viewing requires compatible 3D content, 3D-ready HDTV, 3D emitter and glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (supporting at least 10.2 Gbps) connection. The Sony BDP-S6200 can also convert 2D (two-dimensional) video content into simulated 3D (three-dimensional) video when connected to a 3D-ready TV, with 3D-glasses. You can make adjustments to the 3D image depth.

Deep Color: The Sony Blu-ray player supports a color depth of up to 12 bits. Connecting the player and a TV that supports Deep Color via HDMI allows more accurate color reproduction than when connecting it to a TV that does not support Deep Color. The Deep Color function can be set to 10-bit, 12-bit, Auto, or Off.

Screen Settings: The Sony BDP-S6200 features the following screen settings:

  • TV Type: You can select a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected Television's screen aspect ratio.
  • Screen Size: For 3D viewing, you will need to set the screen size of your 3D-compatible TV.
  • Screen Format: You can select the display configuration for a 4:3 screen picture on a 16:9 wide screen television. You can choose Full or Normal (select when connected to a TV with a wide mode function; displays a 4:3 screen picture in 16:9 aspect ratio even on a wide-screen TV) or Normal (changes the picture size to fit the screen size with the original picture aspect ratio).
  • DVD Aspect Ratio: You can select the display configuration for playback of 16:9 screen pictures on a 4:3 screen TV. You can select from Letter Box or Pan & Scan.

Video Settings: The BDP-S6200 offers the following video adjustments:

  • Picture Quality Mode: You can select from 3 preset pictures settings (Direct, Brighter, Theater, Auto, or Custom) for different lighting environment. The Custom mode lets you adjust the contrast, brightness, color, and hue manually.
  • Texture & Contrast Remaster: Texture Remaster adjusts the sharpness and detail of the edges, while Contrast Remaster automatically arranges the black and white levels so that the screen is not too dark and the image is modulated.
  • Super Resolution + Smoothing: Super Resolution improves the overall resolution of picture. Smoothing reduces on-screen banding by smoothing gradations on flat areas.
  • Clear Black: Adjusts the display of the dark elements of the image. All shading is not suppressed; it allows beautifully reproduced black tones.
  • Noise Reduction: BNR reduces the mosaic-like block noise in the picture, MNR reduces minor noise around the picture outlines (mosquito noise), and I/P to enhance the picture quality of streamed network content.

Cinema Conversion Mode: The Sony Blu-ray player offers two Cinema Conversion Modes - (1) Auto mode automatically detects whether the material is video-based or film-based, and switches to the appropriate conversion method. (2) The Video mode is suited for video-based material and will always be selected regardless of the content.

BonusView: The BonusView feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.
