    Disc Compatibility

    Disc Compatibility: The Sony BDV-E570 Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theater System supports playback of BD-ROM, BD-R (Ver.1.1/1.2/1.3), BD-RE (ver.2.1), DVD-video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW (DL), DVD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-ROM, CD-R/CD-RW, and Super Audio CD.

Note: Like DVD, BD uses region codes. The region code on your disc must match the region code on your player, otherwise the disc will not play. The BDV-E570 is Blu-ray region A and DVD region 1. Blu-ray Disc uses the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) to prevent unauthorized recording of copyrighted material.

Blu-ray Disc Overview: Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a new high-definition disc format designed to take advantage of today's high quality HDTVs. The resolution is up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p) and the data transfer rate is up to 54 mbps. Blu-ray Disc discs and players offer several advantages over the standard DVD format:

    • Better picture quality: Blu-ray Disc is a true high-definition format offering video at 720p, 1080i, or 1080p resolution. While standard DVDs look very good on an HDTV, they don't provide a high-definition signal (not even when you use an up-converting DVD player). Blu-ray Disc delivers an extraordinarily sharp, clean, detailed picture, with deeper, richer colors.
    • Better sound quality: In addition to the same multi-channel sound formats you're accustomed to with DVD (Dolby Digital and DTS), Blu-ray Disc offers Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, and uncompressed 7.1 channel PCM.
    • Much greater storage capacity: What makes Blu-ray Disc's superior picture and sound possible is the much higher storage capacity of Blu-ray Disc discs. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc can hold 25 gigabytes of data, over five times the amount a standard DVD can hold. Dual-layer Blu-ray Discs hold 50 gigabytes, which equates to nine hours of High Definition or 23 hours of Standard Definition video, plus high-resolution multi-channel audio and the added features and material that require multiple discs with standard DVD.
    • Compatibility with your current disc collections: To ensure backward-compatibility with your existing library of discs, Blu-ray Disc players use a dual-laser mechanism: a blue laser for playing high-definition Blu-ray Discs, and a conventional red laser for playing DVDs and audio CDs.

Note: As Blu-Ray technology continues to evolve, new disc types with enhanced functionality will become available. In order for you to enjoy this new functionality, you will likely be required to update the firmware in your player. These firmware updates will become available for downloading from the Internet via the rear panel Ethernet terminal.

3D-Ready: The Sony BDV-E570 lets you enjoy 3D Blu-ray disc movies in full HD 1080p.

Note: Free firmware update maybe required (depending on date of manufacture). 3D viewing requires compatible 3D content, 3D HDTV, 3D emitter & glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (supporting at least 10.2 Gbps) connection.

AVCHD: AVCHD (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) is a high definition digital video camera format used to record in high definition or standard definition on DVD, using an efficient data compression coding technology. The format is designed to compress video and audio (Dolby Digital or Linear PCM) data, enabling a high definition video signal shot on a digital video camera recorder to be recorded on DVD discs, in the same way as it would be for a standard definition signal.

DivX/MPEG Playback: The Sony BDV-E570 supports playback of DivX (.avi/.divx) and MPEG (1-2-4) video files recorded on BD-RE, BD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. The unit can recognize up to 5 folders and 500 filers per folder.

MPEG4 Playback: The Sony BDVE-570 Blu-ray home theater system supports playback MPEG4 video files recorded onto BD-RE, BD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. The unit can recognize up to 5 folders and 500 filers per folder.

JPEG Playback: This unit will play JPEG still picture files recorded onto BD-RE, BD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. Still images on your disc can be viewed in a Slide-Show as well as rotated 90-degrees left or right. The unit can recognize up to 5 folders and 500 filers per folder.

MP3/WMA/AAC Playback: The BDV-E570 supports MP3/WMA/AAC audio files recorded on BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs. When stopped and restarted, playback resumes at the same point as long as the tray hasn't been opened and the player hasn't been turned off. The unit can recognize up to 5 folders and 500 filers per folder.

SACD: Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range - some 64 times higher resolution then CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just cannot hear on a normal CD.

    Video Section

Video D/A Converter: The integrated DVD receiver uses a 148.5MHz/12-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give you a better picture.

Video Outputs: The Sony BDV-E570 features two high-definition video outputs (HDMI, Component) and one standard-definition video output (composite).

    • HDMI (ver.1.4): The BDV-E570's HDMI output simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio in one cable. This unit features HDCP copyright protection technology, and must be connected to an HDCP-compliant device. The HDMI resolution can be fixed at 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, or set to Auto, which selects the highest resolution accepted by your television. The video format can be set to Auto, component (4:4:4 or 4:2:2) or RGB.
    • Component Video: The component video resolution can be set to 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i. If the HDMI output is set to 1080p, the component video output is fixed at 1080i. When a copyright protected DVD is played, the maximum component video output resolution is 480p.
    • Composite Video: The composite output is always live and fixed at 480i. It can output video when playing a Blu-ray Disc.

Note: This unit is not equipped with any type of video input.

1080p HDMI Output with DVD Upscaling: Through the HDMI output, the BDV-E570 is capable of upscaling the resolution of your standard DVDs. Output options include Auto (highest resolution accepted by the TV), 1080p (60 Hz video or 24 Hz), 1080i, or 720p. If necessary the output resolution can also be set to 480p or 480i.

24p True Cinema: Movies are typically recorded on film with a frame rate of 24 frames per second. When a movie is transferred to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second the BDV-E570 will output that signal to the TV (if the TV will accept the 1080p/24 format) with no need for conversion.

Deep Color: The Sony BDV-E570 supports a color depth of up to 12 bits. Connecting the unit and a TV that supports Deep Color via HDMI allows more accurate color reproduction than when connecting it to a TV that does not support Deep Color. The Deep Color function can be set to 10-bit, 12-bit, Auto, or Off.

x.v.Color: The BDV-E570 supports x.v.Color, meaning it's ready for x.v.Color discs when they become available in the future.

Screen Settings: The Sony BDV-E570 features the following screen settings:

    • TV Type: You can select a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected Television's screen aspect ratio.
    • Screen Format: You can select the display configuration for a 4:3 screen picture on a 16:9 wide screen television. You can select from the following:
      • Original: select when connected to a TV with a wide mode function; displays a 4:3 screen picture in 16:9 aspect ratio even on a wide-screen TV
      • Fixed Aspect Ratio: changes the picture size to fit the screen size with the original picture aspect ratio
    • DVD Aspect Ratio: You can select the display configuration for playback of 16:9 screen pictures on a 4:3 screen TV. You can select from Letter Box or Pan & Scan.

Cinema Conversion Mode: The Sony Blu-ray player offers two Cinema Conversion Modes - Auto and Video.

    • Auto: The player automatically detects whether the material is video-based or film-based, and switches to the appropriate conversion method.
    • Video: The conversion method suited for video-based material will always be selected regardless of the content.

BonusView: The BonusView feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.

    Audio Section

S-Master Digital Amplifier: The integrated DVD receiver is equipped with an S-Master Digital Amplifier for superb accuracy, clear separation of signals, and balanced sound reproduction using a digital-to-digital process. Sound Modes You can select a suitable sound mode for movies or music. You can choose from Movie, Music, Sports, News, Game Rock, or Auto.
Two Channel Stereo The 2 channel button sets the receiver to power only the front left and right speakers, no surround and no subwoofer. Two-channel sources bypass the sound field processing and multi-channel sources are down-mixed to 2 channels.

Note: 7.1 channel surround formats will be downmixed to 5.1 channels. The system's built-in Blu-ray player support all formats. The unit's optical and coaxial digital inputs do not support multi-channel LPCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HD.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to the integrated Blu-ray disc/DVD receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

Audio Settings: The BDV-E570 allows you to adjust the following audio settings:

    • D.Bass: This feature reinforces the system's bass frequencies.

Child Lock: You can deactivate the buttons on the main unit to prevent unauthorized operation.

Dimmer: You can adjust the lighting of the unit's front panel display from Bright or Dark.

Screen Saver: The screen saver image appears when you do not use the player for more than 10 minutes while an on-screen display, such as the home menu, is displayed on your TV screen. The screen saver image helps prevent your display devices from becoming damaged.

Auto Standby Mode: If any button on the player or remote is not pressed for more than 30 minutes, the player automatically returns to standby mode.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The supplied IR remote control provides wireless operation of the home theater system. The remote offers convenient, one-touch access for key activities like watching your TV, listening to the radio, watching a Blu-ray or DVD and playing back MP3s from the USB port. It is also preprogrammed to operate Sony and other manufacture's televisions.

Bravia Theatre Sync: When the Sony BDV-E570 is connected to a Sony TV via HDMI, you can operate the system with simplified controls. In addition to audio and video transmission, control functions are transmitted via the HDMI cable. This feature works with a select number of Sony Bravia TVs. The simplified controls include:

    • One-Touch Play: By pressing "Play" on the unit or the remote, the TV turns on and is set for the DVD input mode automatically.
    • Theater Mode: If your Sony Bravia TV is compatible with the Theater Mode, you can enjoy optimal image and sound quality suited for movies, as the Theater Mode function is activated automatically.
    • System Audio Control: While watching TV, you can switch the sound to come out of either the TV or the BDV-E570's speakers.
    • Volume Limit: Automatically limits the volume level of TV sound from the system.
    • Remote Easy Control: You can control the basic functions of the system via your Sony Bravia TV's remote when the system's video output is displayed on the TV screen.
    • Language Control: When you change the language for the on-screen display of your TV, the system's on-screen display language is also changed.
    • System Power Off: When you turn the TV off by using the "Power" button.

    Too many problems to note

Written By Tom, Waterloo, IA on Tuesday, September 13, 2011

I picked up my initial device (BDV-E570) on July 6th, 2011. Price was right, it was all good, right? It wasn't terribly higher than my previous Sony all in one systems price wise, but it was definitely a LOT lower in quality.

Problem 1: Within just over 30 days (August 9th), I was unable to play back ANY disc related media whatsoever. Sony's tech support was a joke, and it just stopped reading ALL discs. I could see this happening, say, after 2-3 years, but 30 days?

Problem 2: Current player (replacement) gets 'stuck' on dvds. Right now it's got all DVD's and BRD's titled 'Get Smart', doesn't update via gracenote, or anything else. If the thing is turned off while the dvd is playing (happens occasionally), when you turn it back on, it won't let you do anything but turn it right back off again (tried switching inputs, ejecting disc, etc, etc).

All in all, the WORST amount of money I ever spent on a device like this, and I've owned quite a few of them over the past 20 or so years (always need to upgrade ;))

    Absolute Garbage!!!!

Written By Jeremy, Littleton,NH on Monday, May 30, 2011

this system is absolute garbage I originally owned a sony 1000 watt dvd home theatre system that was used when i got it and had it for 4-5 years before the subwoofer started getting too worn out, this bdv-e570 I thought would be great, especially considering all the techno logy of it,first off the unit has no rds (radio data system) which even cheap 80 dollar car stereo's have, the system on ipod does not show any song information whatsoever so I pretty much have to keep my ipod in hand, the wi-fi is just about completely useless,it constantly has network errors which cause the system to have to be restarted before it'll even try to re-connect,downloads slower than death in wi-fi,pandora,crashes once the system goes to screensaver despite updating, worst of all,it picks what it'll show for results on youtube and of my favorites, which it likes none of,JUNK,ABSOLUTE JUNK!!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great unit !!! This is the second 5.1 Sony Suround System that I purchased. (I
have 2 homes). This one included the DVD Blu-Ray Player which is nice, and
results in one less remote. Using the upgraded cables is a must for quality,
i.e.; HDMI cable from the DVD Player to the TV, and the fiberoptic Digital Sound
Cable to cary sound from the TV to the Sorround System. Do not use RCA
    Jacks.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works as advertised. Pkus, when connected to the Sony TV, the TV "talks" to
it. The TV knows it has a sound system and sends TV volume control
information to the unit and ignores it own speakers. Sat + TV + Theater system
    with one standard remote.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with this system. I was looking for an all in one that offered good
sound without Stone Henge sized speakers that dominated the room. These
speakers are small but produce great sound.

If you use a cable company digital receiver you'll want to an optical cable. Other
reviews said that it took 20 min to set up. I don't see how thats possible; it took
me over an hour. I was concerned about the amount of speaker wire this system
came with. I was pleasantly surprised that the manufacture supplied a more
    than adequate amount.

Lastly, you cant beat the knowledgable sales and support staff at Crutchfield. It's
great to call a company and get someone that actually knows something about
the product they sell and as a bonus can actually speak english. This was my
first purchase at Crutchfiled and I'll be back for more.

    Great deal!

I took a chance and bought the scratch and dent product and upon receiving it, I
could find no blemishes whatsoever! Must have been the box that looked a bit
rough, but everything was perfect! Setup was fairly easy and the sound and
picture are excellent for the price. Very pleased!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Has good sound that can fill a large room. The subwoofer is especially powerful. I had to
tone it down some. My only critic is the lack of a tone control. In place of that it gives you
different settings, like music, or news, etc. I feel it would be much better if it had a separate
tone control. The TV tone controls have no effect on the separate sound system even though
    they are both new Sonys.

    Sony BDV-E570 - Great All-in-One System

Written By Michigan_Man, Troy, MI on Monday, February 07, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sony BDV-E570 is a true All-in-One home theater system. It has everything you
need from the Blu-Ray player to DVD upscaling, 1000 Watts of power, Built-In WiFi
(Netflix, Hulu, etc...), FM tuner, speaker auto-calibration (includes a mic sensor), USB-
ports, and the list of features go on and on... It sounds great, it looks great, it works well
with all your other equipment (HD TV, cable box, wii/ps3/xbox), and its very easy to set-up.

You'll need an HDMI cable, an optical audio cable, and about 20 minutes to set
    everything up...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this system in January 2011, along w/ 46 in Sony LED HDTV. Nice full
sound, which will probably satisfy most people. Was easy to set up. My main
complaints are the wires running around the room and fact that system didn't accept
either of my 2 iPods. Apparently, one needs to reset the iPods and retry, sometimes up
to 10-20 times before system will see the iPods.

    Great System

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased the E570 for Christmas to replace an old surround sound / DVD/VHS and
have been very impressed with it. The picture and sound quality for all DVD's (Blue Ray
and Standard) is perfect along with online movie streaming. I would recommend this
system to everybody. We use the E570 with a 60" Sony HDTV. Crutchfield tech support
was very helpful in assisting me with the setup since the manual has a lot to be desired.
I was also able to take advantage of there price guarantee since they advertised the
system for a lower price after my purchase. I am very happy with the system and would
continue to purchase from Crutchfield for there low prices and excellent service.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are awesome once all are hooked up and need little bit of adjustments in the sound settings to get the full output from them. The Blu-ray is great for watching movies. DVD upscale is also good. Synch with Sony TV was quick, setup was also easy. Got it here a few days back, cant beat that price for this home theatre system.

Best Money I have spent on Home Theater

Written By DKW, Nebraska on Friday, January 14, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'll start by saying that I have a component system in my "main" living room that is very
robust so I am quite used to great sound. We decide to add a 2nd home theater area
but wanted an "all in one" system to save space and $$$. Even if you pay the full price
for this system, it is WELL WORTH IT! Acoustically, this system is worth every penny,
forget that you have a 3D ready Blu-ray player, receiver, tuner, etc in this unit. I would,
and have, recommended this system to my friends. If you are in the market for
something compact with a bit of a punch, with wireless, 3D, blu-ray, etc, this is the one.
    Great buy.

i love this system sounds good but having a problem with sony the manual said
you can buy a s-air wireless amp to convert it to 7.1 sound but when you go to
sony styles the wireless system waht-sb2 that the manual calles for or the
waht-sa1 that sony sayes will work are both discontuned so you are out of luck
how thay can stop making some thing for there system when its been out for only
less then a year only thing to do is buy the 770 unit thanks for reading

You get what you pay for

Written By PaulK, Dublin, OH on Wednesday, November 17, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this system as a replacement for an "old" Sony 5.1 surround receiver and speaker package that I bought back in 2003, which we are moving into our basement workout room. I have never been a fan of all-in-one AV equipment, but the specifications listed for the BDV-E570 were impressive. My first clue should have been the passive sub-woofer, but I ignored my gut and went for it. Mistake. Although the system performs okay, it feels and sounds very cheap - which it was, I guess. The speakers are made completely of cheap feeling plastic, and are extremely light which speaks to the small magnets inside. The connections were similarly low end, and the audio output has no adjustability - no bass or treble controls, etc. If you don't like how the unit sounds, you can't tweak it. Speaking of the sound, it is very flat, and the base only seems to be there during commercials. And for a system that boasts 165 watts per channel, this thing has very little power near the top of its range. My old 50 watt per channel system put out a lot more sound. If you are looking for an economical entry level all-in-one system for a medium to small room with single story ceilings, this might be a good first option. If you have a large room, or want good sound, go with a separate receiver and good speakers. I'm returning the BDV-E570 and doing just that. You get what you pay for.

Sony 3D Blu Ray and Surround system

Written By TT3, Beaverton, OR on Saturday, October 02, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This system came as package deal with my 52" Bravia TV. The picture makes the system look bigger than it really is. When I opened the box and only saw the sub woofer, I thought the UPS driver had forgotten a box.

Great sounding system and once you get it all hooked up, the sound mic calibrates the sound and you are ready to go.

Integrating the TV remote and Blu Ray remote is not easy. I'm still working with two remotes and maybe one day I'll look at the manual...but probably not. Actually I'm using 3 remotes when you count the Comcast one.. Now I see why people buy the $200 dollar remotes but it's not that big of a deal to make we want to do that. I've already watched The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Iron Man 2 in Blu Ray and sounds are awesome.

As I said with the TV, give us the stupid HDMI cables we need. I know it's pure profit when you make a cable that's GOOD, BETTER, BEST. They are all cheap so just throw it in for free.
