Keep your CD collection poised for playback with the CDP-CX355 from Sony. This super-capable mega changer holds up to 300 discs, and it plays your home-burned CD-Rs and CD-RWs, as well as regular CDs. Spin the twin front jog dials to maneuver your way to the desired disc and track, or use the included remote control. And take advantage of the random play mode for a surprise mix of your entire collection.

With the CDP-CX355, it's easy to label and organize all your CDs for instant retrieval and playback. If a disc is pre-programmed with CD Text, the titles will automatically appear on the front-panel display. If not, you can enter titles manually with Disc Memo (hook up an optional PS/2-compatible PC keyboard to make the job easier). Once your discs are labeled, you can use Memo Search to scroll through the titles alphabetically, and when you find the CD you're looking for, set it spinning with the touch of a button. Plus, eight Group Files let you organize your discs by artist, genre, personal favorites … any way you like.

For those with big music collections, you can daisy chain two mega changers together via the Control A1-II jack for access to up to 600 CDs. Not only can you control the two units as one, but the pair requires only a single receiver input, and the second changer's disc titles appear on the front panel of the first.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the SONY CDP-CX355 300-disc CD Jukebox in Nov of 2012. Bought it to replace another manufacturer's similar product which did not live up to expectations. I've been a huge fan of SONY products since my first Trinitron TV purchase in 1973. I have about 800 or so CDs in my collection-this one unit will not hold all of them. I've picked 100 of my favorite Christmas CDs and listed them in an Excel File. Next, I made copies of each one and loaded them into the first 100 slots. A couple of good reasons for for loading copies: The originals are stored away safely. This is a mechanical device, and as such, has the potential to damage discs. This player displays CD text for each and every copy I made with NERO, even if the original manufactured CD did not contain CD Text. This unit allows you to place CDs in up to 8 "Groups" Group 1 is my Christmas music. This unit allows you to skip undesired songs on any disc. It's mid-March and snowing in Colorado-I am listening right now to my Christmas music in the "Shuffel" mode. I don't know which album or song is going to play next. I've already listed the CDs I am going to populate the remaining 7 groups with. They will be my 60's & 70s compilation CDs. When I run this group in the shuttle mode it will be like listening to a commercial-free radio station but with only my personal favorites. The quality of the sound is excellent. I would purchase another just like it, but Crutchfield advises it is no long available for purchase.

Pros: 300 disc load capacity. Ability to store and name CDs in Groups. Ability to skip undesired songs in both regular play and shuffle play modes. Displays Album Name and Song Name (CD Text). Logical Front Panel Layout. Keyboard Input Jack for entering data. Many other features which I have yet to explore

Cons: No Headphone Jack--Not a big deal--I am listening with my (SONY) wireless headphones connected to my A/V receiver with the main volume turned down. Remote control is not illuminated and the various buttons are not shape and/or color coded to their function--a typical SONY tradition on remotes for their products. They still need to work on this on-going shortfall.

Not my first one.

Needed to replace my old Sony CD 200 disc player - this one has been a perfect replacement so far. Nice enhancements from old model. Good to know can still find a quality machine to play CDs even thought they are on the way out

Not as good as it should be for the price

Written By DaveD, Chicago on Tuesday, February 05, 2013

I've owned one for 6 years. Had to get it repaired once after 5-needed new optics and a new spin motor. Works OK most of the time, but for reasons known only to it it will not play some CDs or some tracks on CDs that are otherwise perfectly good, and will play fine on other machines. This includes some CDs that were brand new out of the package and put directly in.

Exactly What I Needed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After always having to change CD's on my 5 CD Sansui (which always worked well) I decided to put all my CD's on this Sony. It took about 4 hours to load, categorize, and group 169 CD's using a PC keyboard, but the time I'm saving by having all my CD's loaded made it worth it. The Sony is easy to use, sounds crystal clear. I use this with a whole house system with a Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver powering it.

Pros: Easy to set up. Great time saver.

Cons: None yet with about 40 hours of playing time on it.

My Dad had CD;s scattered all over the place. The 300 Disc Sony CD Player has solved the problem. I wrote the title of Disc and corresponding number on a tablet to enable my Dad to have ready reference to any CD. Your service was excellent, unit arrived on time, and quickly. Thanks.

Very happy with this CD changer. Had a pioneer 101 CD changer that died. This one has a better, richer sound, as good as vinyl. It is much quieter when it changes CDs which is important considering I use it in my massage business.

So far so good, it took me over four hours to load my 250+ disc, leaving room for disc not yet purchased. I got a cheap key broad to input infor, But I have not had the time to sit and play with it as of yet. But it does what the reviews said it would do... I am not sure about the random play option, I would rather just listen to a whole cd and then choose the next one by myself.

Pros: Price and Looks.

Cons: none as of yet!!!! knock on wood....

Would highly recommend this product . It works hard and takes a lot of abuse.

Pros: Easy to set up...holds the perfect amount of CDs Easy to operate and not to high price wise

Sony 300 Megadisc changer

Written By Charlie A, Rimrock, AZ on Thursday, August 02, 2012

This unit has lasted over ten years from purchase. Here in AZ with the dusty environment combined with all the moving parts that make this unit work has been amazing! I think I will have to replace it due to wear and tear. All my CDs are in great shape unless I download all my CDs onto my PC I will still have an issue playing them on my home audio system which still includes a 200 watt amplifyer.

Cons: A bit tedious to type in the disc names and artists, even witha keyboard. Better to put the jackets into a plastic sleeve book.

Still no internet access?

Written By John, New York, NY on Wednesday, August 01, 2012

I had the 200 disc changer 10 years ago. Shortly after, the 300 came out. It will only read CD text or let you enter a custom title. Why haven't they figured out that if they add a network cable connector, it could go right to the internet and download all the information for every single disc it houses? Do you really want to spend all day long typing cd titles into your player?

Pros: Amount of CDs it can hold.

Cons: No internet access. DISC 235 will have to be looked up on a list you mainain to figure out what you're about to listen to.

Written By ValK, Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, October 22, 2011

After about 10 years of working (not every day and even not every week) my Sony 300 CD changer is out of order - "Nothing is forever under the moon light". I am about what I found inside when I open the changer: everything and all my 300 CD were covered with the very fine dust. And I understood why audio fanatics prefer single CD-player - to exclude everything what decrease the sound quality reproduction.

Pros: Not bad sound quality. Listening all CD in shuffle regim.

Cons: Search of necessary CD takes a lot of time: display shows you ID only one CD with the very restricted number of characters: you have apply to special album with the numerated CD-insert .

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using Sony CDP-CX 355 changers for over 10 years. I bought my first pair in April of 2000. I bought 3 more in 2001 to hold my complete collection of CDs. By chaining them in pairs and using all the grouping capabilities for different types of music or even different artists, I can have continuous or random play for days. I especially like the delete track capability which allows me to delete any disliked tracks on any or all CDs and never hear them again unless I manually change the delete settings. I just bought 2 more players to hold my growing collection and as back-ups should any player become inoperable. Should this model ever become obsolete or go out of production, please notify me, so I have the opportunity to purchase additional players as back-ups as I know everything eventually wears out. Five stars is not nearly a high enough rating for this CD player.

Bought this for my business. Worked fine right out of the box. 300 CD's OMG. Runs eight hours a day, five days a week. Currently have about 30 CD's loaded and set to random and shuffle. A little slow on the CD change but not a big deal. I was considering Sirius radio but found this. Good product.

toslink only works as a single

Written By Stacy, SW Fla on Friday, June 18, 2010

I have had 2 of these units for years now with NO problems. My only gripe is that you have to use the RCA jacks if you are going to daisy chain 2 units. I would like to see a NEW version of this unit that allows Mega changer function through digital outputs (optical AND coaxial.)
Oh, and if you burn discs to make full use of the CD text, be carefull, as some burning software is either NOT compatible or takes some trial and error to get it right.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While it is refreshing to get digital audio via Toslink now, this piece of equipment needs to go bye-bye. Right out of the box and a brand new wrapped CD of Kelly Clarkson, it fails to get going on the VERY FIRST SONG! It skips, backs up, and just plain fails to read the first song on the CD. It goes well starting with the 2nd song, but that's not all. I then fill up the player with CD's to see how local the problem was, and it wasn't. It fails to read the beginning song my MANY CD's not to mention that sometimes it will finish a CD then fail to pull in the next one and play it. I would have to go hit the play button. Or stop and play. My fault for not reading the reviews in the first place.

Very Durable

Written By Steve, Washington, DC on Friday, March 05, 2010

I purchased this unit over 5 years ago and have had it playing
in my office 8 hours a day 5 days a week nonstop. It has never
malfunctioned and just keeps on going. I have it playing through
an office setup with ceiling speakers, so I cannot comment on
sound quality if it were in a good home system. However, I am
giving it 5 stars based on it's durability, I am surprised and
pleased at how long it has lasted under extremely heavy use.
Hopefully the units made now are as good as those made then!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this as a replacement for my 10 year old PIONEER PD-F1007. The SONY was less expensive and made me wonder if it would operate as well as my PIONEER (which I bought from CRUTCHFIELD in 1999]. Once I got it set up with TOSLINK FIBER OPTIC CABLE, I couldn't believe my ears. My system uses AR speakers which reproduce sounds from 32 Hz to 23000 Hz. This player picked up EVERYTHING! I rated it 4 stars rather than 5 for the following reasons:
CONS: The title information that this unit accepts from the user is too limited. I'm going to have to make copies of all my original disks with CDTEXT to get complete CD identification.
I installed this unit carefully like the PIONEER making sure that the SHELF that I put it on was perfectly level and the CD load was evenly distributed. There is more than adequate air circulation available. I took out a 2 year service policy but If there is a malfunction, I will write an extension to this review.

Works Fine!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great product for someone who wants to listen to music at home in CD quality. I had my MP3 player connected to my home theater system, but the quality falls quite a bit short of CD quality. I didn't want the hassle of switching out CDs in my five-CD changer, so I got the Sony CDP-CX355. Some other reviews complain about the changer scratching CDs -- just take your time loading the CDs and be sure not to move the changer with CDs in it and you'll be fine. When it is in the "All Discs Shuffle" mode, there is about a 20 - 30 second delay between songs. I had the idea to get one, see how I like it, then get a second one. That way, one can start a song while the other one is searching. Now that I've had it a few months, I find that the delay isn't much of a bother. Sorry about that, Crutchfield!

The 355, 300 disc unit is easy to set-up, great features, delete track ability, quiet, nice apperance, poor lifespan. The first one lasted just under three years, under an extended warrantee; it started hunting for a disc endlessly. The unit was very quickly and easily replaced but the replacement lasted just over one year ending with the same problem, but just beyond factory warrantee. I advise against the 355 unit unless you purchase a 5 year warrantee. Crutchfield is the great place and I have used them for many years. (My older Sony 250 CD player from Crutchfield is still workingfine, over 10 years.) This unit would get all 5 stars, but the reliability and longevity gave it a 1.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to replace a SONY 50+1 CD changer with a changer that would accommodate by 300+ collection. I did extensive homework (read all the reviews) and "reluctantly" decided to give the 355 a chance. It has turned out to be an excellent machine and I would strongly recommend this model to anyone considering a large capacity changer. I have used it continuously for the past six weeks with absolutely no problem. Would I prefer more than 8 "genre" categories ..sure. Would a prefer more than 3 programmable sets ..sure. .....These and other features would definitely be "nice-to-haves" but are not enough to discourage anyone from purchasing this unit. I have read complaints about "shuffle time" and machine noise which I find to be total non-issues. I could not manually change a CD faster or quiter. I opted not to get SONY's 400 changer because of the larger form factor. I hope anyone who reads this review will be as satisfied with their choice as I have been with mine.

welp i have had the piece for 3 days and hooked it up today, so far so good i scattered cds thru out the 300 and it works fine, the speakers have a slight hum when you have the door to the changer open, and the fan blows in to it but i can live with that, be sure to check for space before ordering this monster, i have to build a new shelf on my porch to fit it. of course i almost forgot, it doesn't play mp3s, i should've known that when i ordered it but i didn't even think of it so i bought a cheap dvd player to play my burnt discs

Keyboard input: There is a PS-2 (also called IBM type) input on the front panel of the player for a keyboard. If you want to use an AT type keyboard, you will need to purchase a keyboard input adapter. Using a keyboard will make naming discs much faster. Power consumption of the keyboard must be 120 mA or less.

Custom Files: The player stores three types of custom file information for each disc:

  • Disc Memo: label discs with names up to 13 characters
  • Delete Bank: marks unwanted tracks that are skipped when playing CDs
  • Group File: group discs in up to eight groups. Each disc can only be in one group. Group files can be used in continuous, shuffle or repeat play. Each group can be given a group memo of up to 13 characters.

More on Custom Files: Custom files are stored in the player's memory. If the player is not used for about one month, you will lose custom file information. Custom files can be erased one at a time or all at once. CD-Text information can not be replaced by a Disc memo file. Deleted tracks are skipped even in Shuffle play and program mode. All deleted tracks can be recovered simultaneously

Programs: You can create up to three programs, each of which can contain up to 32 steps. A step can be one track or an entire disc.

CD Text: When playing a CD with CD Text the display will show you the current disc title, artist name and track title if it is recorded on the CD. A CD-Text indicator lights up on the display whenever the player detects a CD with CD-Text information. The remote control has a button marked "Highlight" that will play only the highlights of a CD Text CD if that CD has this feature (not all CD Text CDs support this feature). If the CD Text information is available in various languages, you can select the language that the information is displayed in.

Jog Dial: There is a jog dial on the unit for quick selection of discs and a second jog dial on the unit for track selection.

Last Disc Memory (Resume): When the player is turned off, it will remember the last playing disc and the play mode. When the unit is turned on again, it plays the same disc in the same mode (play starts from the beginning of that disc).

Control A1II jack: There is a control input for synchronized recording and auto function when used with compatible Sony components. This player can control another Sony CD changer with Control A1II (or Control A1) and Command Mode CD3.

Memo Scan: This feature allows you to quickly locate a disc by scanning disc memos on the unit's display.

Memo Search: You can search for a disc by inputting the first character used in the Disc Memo.

Easy Play: By pressing the Easy Play button on the player, the rotary tray will automatically move to the slot 1 position for easy insertion of a single disc.If the Easy Play button is pressed again, it will start playing the disc in slot 1. Easy play can only be used with a disc inserted in the slot 1 position.

Disc skip: The player has a +100 disc key, which allows you to skip 100 discs at a time for easier access when using the Jog Dial for disc selection.

Timer: The player is compatible with an optional external audio timer.

Hit list: This will allow you to store up to 32 tracks which can be selected immediately. You can label the 32 tracks in your Hit Listwith up to 13 characters. CD Text CD tracks in the Hit List are stored automatically when placed in the Hit List.

Advanced Mega Control: You can control a second Sony CD changer with this unit if it: (1) Has a control A1II (or Control A1) Jack and (2). The command mode of the unit can be set to CD3. The 2nd Unit's RCA outputs are connected to the RCA inputs of this unit (marked 2ND CD) and the Control A 1II jack is connected between both units. When the CD players are connected in this way you can load the Disc Memos of the second CD player to this unit's memory if the second player has Disc Memo. You can label the discs of the second player using this unit or change the discs memos which you load from the second player. When you do this you are using this player's memory, so you can not display them on the second CD player display. A total of up to 600 Disc Memos of up to 13 characters each may be loaded. The controls of both units will function. When you press the play button on either unit the operating player stops and the resting player starts. You can also use:

  • No-Delay Play: Play changes from player to player after each track. The player starts play without a break in sound immediately after the current player ends play

  • X-Fade Play: Play changes from player to player after each track OR at a specified interval of 30, 60 or 90 seconds. When players change the sound output of both players is mixed, with one player fading out and the other fading in

Rear panel:

  • Toslink Digital Output (with plastic cover)
  • RCA fixed stereo output
  • Two Control A1II jacks for use with compatible Sony components
  • CD 1/2/3 switch (also found on remote): Used when this unit is being used as a "master" unit with a compatible Sony CD player
  • 2nd CD stereo RCA input: Allows you to connect 2nd compatible Sony CD changer
