You've got enough to do on your boat without having to replace your stereo every few years. Sony built the CDX-M10 marine CD receiver with a protective coated circuit board and UV-resistant paint to ensure that it'll stand up to the sun, salt, and spray through many years of good times on the water.

You can play your store-bought and recordable CDs on the CDX-M10; you can even play discs you've loaded with MP3 or WMA files so you can get a full day of music from a single disc. The 3-band equalizer tailors the output of the powerful built-in amplifier for the perfect blend of lows, mids, and highs. Roll out some extra bass by hooking a powered subwoofer to the preamp outputs.

Enjoy your favorite playlists without headphones by connecting your MP3 player to the handy front-panel auxiliary input.

Sony designed this marine receiver to work with wired and wireless remotes, but no remotes are currently available from Sony.

    Not durable

Written By Clay, Acworth, GA on Thursday, October 20, 2011

Not happy with this unit. I've had three of them. Yes, three! First two were covered under warranty so Sony replaced them for free. Third one just died after two years. Electronic volume knob has a delay so when you adjust the volume, it takes a while for the actual volume to respond. Bright lights and constant demo mode drain battery fast. Other than that, it's a fine unit.

    Great Stereo for my Boat

This stereo has all the features I needed and it doesnt skip CD's while cruising in the boat. The best marine player for the money I could find!

    good sound for the price

put this in my pontoon and it sounds good with the factory speakers, easy to
install, seems well built the the water barrier covering the top of the radio. I
plan on ordering some aftermarket speakers from crutchfield to go with it now
to make it sound even better.

easy to install - thanks, in part, to the old radio cords being labeled. I amazed even myself,
not to mention my wife when I got it up and running in no time.

Cheap cheap cheap. Not budget friendly if it breaks.

Let me say that I really enjoyed this stereo the three weeks it worked properly. I bought the kit and the speakers sound great! The unit is very nice as well. However, today I go to put a CD in and use the turn dial on the receiver to adjust mid's, low's high's et al... and they go up but turning the dial will not turn them down. Listen to a track... same thing... volume up but not back down. After taking the detachable face off and ensuring that it was clean, re-attatched... same problem. Did this three times... now the radio cannot even be used because the volume is on a preset too high. Horrible experience. To make matters worse the universal marine cover I ordered from crutchfield won't stay closed either. They sent me a new one in good faith... however I would have to drill additional holes in the boat and the old ones would not be covered. Good company... as I've ordered from Crutchfield before and had no problems with the quality or value of their goods and services. Anyhow, I hope they handle this problem as good when I call them tomorrow. Just pay a little more and get something nicer... and don't buy a SONY LEMON.

The CDX-10 works very well. I replaced the original in-dash cassette deck in a '94 Sea Ray bowrider. It's been many years since I've installed a stereo in any vehicle. I didn't feel that the fold-down tabs held the unit securely in the dash (almost pushed through when I plugged in the ipod), so I had to reinforce the mounting bracket. Good to go now. I'm very happy with the purchase.

    Excellent sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a breeze . Sparky, the advisor, recommended that since this was replacement for another older Sony that I stick with that brand as the wiring harness was likely to be the same and he was right, it was, so the install went with out a hitch. Sound is excellent, and for me ease of use is important, I have enough complicated electronics on board " Endurance" our 43 foot sailboat, so I just want a CD player and radio that is easy to use... The antenna is installed behind it in the open space of the port cabin furniture , its a rubber shorty automobile one, and it pulls in every station.... Time to crank up the Jimmy Buffet....

What a great product for the money. This is my third marine stereo and definitely my favorite choice so far. The sound is amazing and makes my little speakers sound much larger with the sounds processing options. Volume gets very loud and is clean and undistorted. I spent about 2 hours testing it in the driveway and was extreemely pleased.

    Great purchase!

This Sony radio replaced a Kenwood marine radio that was about 8 years old. FM sensitivity and power on new radio are remarkably better than old one. The equilizer is simple and effective. I especially like the AUX in, sub out, and remote amp lead that turns sub amp on. Only missing item is a USB jack on front. I thought I followed the instructions properly first time, but had to switch the red and yellow +12 V leads to maintain the internal memory.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the CDX-M10 to replace a Kenwood unit supplied in my aftermarket motorcycle fairing. The Kenwood was unreliable and difficult to control with gloves on. The CDX-M10 appealed to me because it was a marine unit and inexpensive. I use a Zumo 450 to push MP3's through the head unit and speakers are RF Punch units. The unit is easy to operate, reliable and has plenty of volume. An upgrade I might consider is one of the two wired remote controllers. I would purchase this unit again in a heartbeat, I am very pleased

I bought this to replace an older Sony CDX-4005 so I would have the AUX input for my iPod. The stereo used the same wiring harness and sleve, so installation was a 10 minute deal, super easy. The white display is easy to read, and it packs a lot of power for the price.

I bought this for a '98 Mastercraft. For the price, it is excellent.

    - Easy to see display
    - Great Radio Reception ++++
    - Sounds great with some old Kenwood Marine 6 X 9s that were existing
    - Simple controls

    - No remote included
    - We tend to turn the boat on and off a lot so the power off beep gets annoying.
    - Have seen some issues with ID3 tags while playing MP3 disks.

    Great Bargain!

I just bought a boat that was delivered with this unit installed. I've been waiting for the new Alpine marine gear to be released really not giving any thought to keeping the factory installed deck. After spending a few days on the water with the Sony I've got to think this through again however. The deck sounds great, looks good and is easy to use. The feel of the face and controls is excellent and gives off a feeling of quality. I may simply need to purchase some upgrades for this unit to get the sound I want. Good job Sony!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this radio for a boat I am fixing up. I paired it with a Poly-Planer Water Resistant radio enclosure and it is well protected. Works like a standard automotive radio. Same hookups. Even has sub outputs and a power antenna output. Sounds great!

Water Resistant Covers (optional): Even though the conformal coating makes the receiver water-resistant, it is still recommended that it be used with a universal marine cover such as the Metra (120999005B, sold separately) or Scosche (142ACM1, sold separately).

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The CD receiver will play CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW discs. The head unit also supports CD Text.

Compressed Audio File Capability: In addition to audio CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs, the receiver will play MP3 and WMA compressed audio files stored on a CD-R or CD-RW. Below are the following requirements and features for compressed audio file playback:

Note: The Album/Group number is displayed only when the album/group is changed.

Eject: The CD disc can be ejected with the unit powered off. The CD player will automatically reinsert the disc if the disc is ejected and left on the lip opening of the player for 15 seconds or more.

Mounting Angle: For flexibility of installation, this unit can be mounted between 0 (horizontal) and 45 degrees.

    Audio Section

Drive S: The CDX-M10 features the Drive S chassis platform. Drive S includes the CD mechanism, audio stages, 12 V power supply, and tuner section. The CD mechanism includes a suspension to resist shocks, a motor that draws less power, and a fast low-current pickup that improves durability and CD playback accuracy. The 52W Peak x 4-channel S-MOSFET Power IC produces clearer, more accurate sound, less distortion, and a higher signal-to-noise ratio than previous designs.

Amplifier Section: The head unit's amplifier is CEA-2006 compliant and rated at 17 watts RMS x 4 channels at 4 Ohms and 1% THD. The unit is also rated at 23.2 watts per channel minimum continuous average power into 4 ohms, 4 channels driven from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with no more than 5% THD. Peak power is rated at 52 watts per channel.

EQ3 Stage 2: You may select one of the following EQ presets: Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom or Off (flat). For the Custom mode, you can adjust the following bands:

    • Low: +10 dB to -10 dB at 60 Hz
    • Middle: +10 dB to -10 dB at 1 kHz
    • High: +10 dB to -10 dB at 10 kHz

Loudness: This feature allows you to listen to your music clearly at low volume levels by reinforcing the bass and treble. The bass level is increased to +4 dB at 100 Hz while the treble level is increased to +2 dB at 10 kHz.

Switchable Preamp Outputs: The CDX-M10 contains one pair of RCA preamp outputs which can be set for the rear channels or for subwoofer operation. When set to subwoofer, the output becomes non-fading and a low pass filter is activated with a selectable cut-off frequency of 125Hz, 78Hz, or Off. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments.

    Radio Functions

Radio Tuning: The CDX-M10 allows you to manual tune or seek tune AM/FM stations. In the Local Seek Mode, the unit will only tune in stations with very strong signals during Seek tuning. The Mono Mode allows you improve poor FM reception by selecting a monaural signal instead of a stereo signal. The radio features 5 memory bands to store and receive AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets in each of the following bands - FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2.

Best Tuning Memory (BTM): This feature selects stations with the best signals within the selected band and stores them in order of their frequency. You can select from FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2.

Manual Tuning: You can manually tune and find your favorite radio stations one by one for FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2.

Auto Tuning: You can use the seek button to help you search quickly through the available stations and then choose your own presets from these available stations.

    AUX Connection

Front Panel Auxiliary Input: A front panel stereo 3.5mm mini-jack is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system. The volume level of the auxiliary input is adjustable from -8 to +18 dB to compensate for any difference between the unit and your portable device. The aux input can be deactivated in the menu so it doesn't appear as an available source. The head unit comes supplied with a rubber cap that can be placed over the auxiliary input when it is not in use to keep it dry.

    Display Features

Motion Display: This feature shows moving patterns and a spectrum analyzer on the display when turned on.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Dimmer: The CDX-M10 feature a dimmer mode to dim the brightness of the display. You can choose from either "Dim On" or Dim Off".

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button once will turn off audio output, but the clock display and face/button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off automatically after a set amount of time. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.
