System Overview: The Sony DAV-X10 is an integrated system that includes a single-disc DVD/SACD/Video CD/Audio CD player/receiver, two front surround speakers and a passive subwoofer. The supplied wireless remote operates the system, plus multiple brands of televisions and cable boxes. The system also comes supplied with a Bluetooth Wireless Audio Adapter.
S-Master Digital Amplifier: This unit is powered by the S-Master Full Digital Amplifier built inside the integrated DVD/CD receiver. The amplifier processes audio signals from HDTV broadcasts, DVD, SACD, or other digital sources, and amplifies them entirely in the digital domain. This design is highly efficient, producing minimal heat, while taking up 1/4 of the space of conventional amplifiers. The amplifier has the following power output specifications:
FTC Rated: 38 watts per channel (150 to 20,000 Hz, 4 ohms, 0.7% THD)
Continuous RMS: 80 watts per channel (1 kHz, 4 ohms, 10% THD)
FTC Rated: 38 watts per channel (25 to 150 Hz, 4 ohms, 0.7% THD)
Continuous RMS: 80 watts per channel (100 Hz, 4 ohms, 10% THD)
S-FORCE Pro Front Surround Technology: The DAV-X10 system produces a 3D surround sound field by using advanced signal processing and sound wave phasing. This is accomplished with only two speakers and a passive subwoofer. You can select between a Music or Movie mode.
Surround Modes: This receiver decodes the following surround modes into 2.1 channel surround to bring you maximum enjoyment from your audio and video software:
- Dolby Digital
- Dolby Pro Logic II
2-Channel Stereo: In addition to the surround modes, you can select the 2-Channel Stereo mode. Standard stereo sources completely bypass the sound field processing. Multi-channel surround formats are downmixed to two channels.
Bass and Treble: The system's Bass and Treble settings can be adjusted independently from -6 to +6dB in 0.5 dB increments.
Portable Audio Enhancer: This sound mode produces a clear enhanced sound image from your connected portable audio device. This mode is ideal for MP3 or other compressed music formats.
Night Mode/Audio DRC: The Night Mode lets you enjoy sound effects or dialogue as you would in a movie theater, even at low volume. Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) feature is useful for watching movies late at night by letting you narrow the dynamic range of the sound track. You can select DRC Standard, DRC Max, or DRC Off. Audio DRC applies only to Dolby Digital-encoded soundtracks.
Digital Cinema Auto Calibration: The Sony DAV-X10 comes supplied with a setup microphone that plugs into the back of the integrated DVD/CD receiver. Sony's Digital Signal Processing uses feedback between the supplied setup microphone and receiver to optimize sound settings. By simply placing the supplied setup microphone in your listening position and pushing a single button on the remote control, speaker position, distance to speaker and delays are automatically calibrated. The microphone features a 16' cord for position flexibility and a threaded hole on the bottom of the microphone's base for mounting it to a tripod.
A/V Sync (Lip Sync): When the sound does not match the pictures on the screen, you can adjust the delay between the picture and sound.
Multi-Format DVD/CD Playback: This system can play the following discs - DVD Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW/+R DL, SACD, Audio CD, Video CD, and CD-R/CD-RW.
Super Audio CD: The DAV-X10 is equipped with a DSD (Direct Stream Digital) decoder to enable SACD playback. DSD encodes music at 2,822,400 samples per second, allowing you to hear sound with incredible detail and clarity. Many Super Audio CDs have multi-channel and 2-channel SACD playback layers as well as a conventional CD playback layer. In the Stop mode, you can select which layer of the disc you wish to play.
Note: This unit does not support the multi-channel playback area of an SACD.
MP3 Playback: This unit will play MP3 files recorded onto DATA CD, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-ROM, or DATA DVD discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level 2 and Joliet formats. Each disc can have a maximum of 200 albums and each album can have a maximum of 300 tracks.
JPEG Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto DATA CD, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-ROM, or DATA DVD discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level 2 and Joliet formats. Images of files in an album appear in 16 sub-screens. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show with or without audio. You can adjust the slide show interval as well as the slide show effect. Additionally, you can rotate any selected image 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise. Each disc can have a maximum of 200 albums and each album can have a maximum of 300 images.
Resume Play: This feature allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared from memory if you remove the disc, change the play mode, change the setting on the Setup Menu, or press the Stop button a second time.
Multi-Disc Resume Play: For DVD Video and Video CD only, the DAV-X10 system can store the point where you stopped the disc for up to 40 discs, and resume playback the next time you insert the disc. If you store the resume playback point for a 41st disc, the resume point is deleted for the first disc. The Multi-Disc Resume feature can be turned on/off in the menu.
Program Play: You can play the contents of a Video CD, SACD, or Audio CD disc in the order you want by arranging the order of the tracks on the disc to create your own program. You can program up to 99 tracks.
PBC (Playback Control) Playback: PBC playback (Ver.2.0) allows you to play Video CDs and Super Video CDs interactively by following the menu on the TV screen. You cannot use Program Play, Shuffle Play, or Repeat Play with Video CDs and Super VCDs with PBC playback.
Viewing Angles: If various angles (multi-angles) for a scene are recorded on a DVD Video disc, you can change the viewing angle while watching the video.
Screen Setup: You can set the video output of the integrated DVD/CD receiver to match the aspect ratio of your connected television. You can choose from 16:9 Wide Screen, 4:3 Letter Box, or 4:3 Pan Scan.
4:3 Output: When you have set the Screen Setup function to 16:9 you can select how your connected TV will display a 4:3 image. You can select Full (stretches image across entire screen) or Normal (vertical black bars on each side of image).
HDMI Output With Video Upscale For DVD: The integrated DVD/CD receiver is equipped with an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) output. You can select from the following HDMI resolutions: Auto (automatically outputs the best resolution acceptable by the TV), 720 x 480p, 1280 x 720p, or 1920 x 1080i. With an HDMI/DVI adapter, you can connect this unit to a TV with an HDCP-compatible DVI input.
Note: DVI cables do not accept audio signals, and there is no analog audio output on the receiver/amplifier.
Bravia Theater Sync: The DAV-X10 features Bravia Theater Sync via HDMI. When this system is connected by HDMI with a select number of BRAVIA LCD televisions and other Sony audio and video products, in addition to audio and video, control functions will also be transmitted via the HDMI cable (sold separately). Bravia Theater Sync offers "One Touch Play", operations that took several steps before have been reduced to only one. By pressing the PLAY button on the remote, your compatible Sony Bravia audio and/or video component(s) turn on, then your BRAVIA television will turn on and switch to the correct video input.
Digital Media Port: The Sony DAV-X10 features two Digital Media Ports located on the rear panel of the integrated DVD/CD receiver. These proprietary interfaces add networking and connectivity options to your home theater system and components through optional accessories (sold separately) that can connect with various devices. The DAV-X10 comes supplied with a Digital Media Port Bluetooth adapter. Additional DMP accessories will include a PC Client Ready device, an Audio Docking Station compatible with select Network Walkman players and an iPod interface (all sold separately). So regardless of where you store your music, Sony's DIGITAL MEDIA PORT offers an access point, provides control and integrates your portable music into your home theater system.
Bluetooth Wireless Audio Adapter: The Sony Bravia DAV-X10 comes supplied with Sony's Digital Media Port Bluetooth Wireless Audio Adapter so you can enjoy listening to wireless Bluetooth stereo audio source devices such as select mobile phones or digital music players that also support Bluetooth's Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) through your home theater system. The supplied Bluetooth adapter plugs into one of the unit's DMP ports located on the rear of integrated DVD/CD receiver. This unit can be paired with up to 8 Bluetooth stereo audio source devices. Bluetooth wireless technology works off of a 2.4 GHz frequency band and has an operating range of up to approximately 33 feet.
Note: This unit does not support Bluetooth's Hand's Free Calling Profile (HFP). This unit is not compatible with the iPhone since the iPhone currently does not support Bluetooth A2DP.
AM/FM Tuner: This system has a PLL quartz-locked digital synthesizer AM/FM Tuner. You can store up to 20 FM and 10 AM station presets so that you always have easy access to your favorite stations without having to tune them in manually each time. You can assign a name of up to 10 characters for each preset. FM tuning is done in 0.1MHz steps and AM tuning is done in 9kHz or 10kHz steps.
Parental Control: This unit allows you to set two kinds of playback restrictions for discs using Parental Control and Custom Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback of any disc according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password. Using the same registered password, Custom Parental Control allows you to set playback restrictions for a specific disc. You can set the same Custom Parental Control password for up to 40 discs.
Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the unit off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be adjusted from 10 to 90 minutes in 10-minute increments.
Illumination Mode: You can select the way of displaying the soft-touch button located on the top of the unit. You can choose from Standard (sets the soft-touch buttons to always light up) or Simple (sets the soft-touch buttons to light up when you touch them; the soft-touch buttons turn off it you do not touch them for about 10 seconds).
Display Dimmer: Using the remote control, you can set the display to one of two brightness levels.
Screen Saver: The Screen Saver image appears when you leave the system in pause or stop mode for 15 minutes or when you play back an Audio CD or SACD for more than 15 minutes.
2.1 Speaker System: The system's speakers are driven by multiple discreet channels to create a surround effect with only 2 speakers and a subwoofer. Each satellite speaker contains dual cone drivers and a tweeter, while the subwoofer has dual woofers. Driven by the 2.1-channel S-FORCE PRO surround technology, the speaker system reproduces a convincing sense of distance and space, resulting in a true surround experience without the need for rear speakers.
Front "Surround" Speakers: The front surround speakers each feature two 2" full range cone drivers and a 1" balanced-dome tweeter. The drivers are set at different angles to help create the surround effect. The speaker's proprietary terminals have 4 conductors, 2 for each driver in combination with the tweeter. The front surround speakers are video shielded, allowing you to place them close to a TV without creating picture distortion. The front speakers should be placed at ear level facing forward, at least 2 feet apart and the same distance from your listening position between 0 to 23 feet. Each speaker features a 5mm threaded insert on the bottom of the enclosure for use with an optional Sony stand (WS-X10FB) or optional Sony wall-mounting bracket (WS-X10W), both sold separately.
Digital Direct Twin Drive Passive Subwoofer: The video-shielded, passive subwoofer features dual 6" drivers in a bass reflex enclosure. One driver fires toward the front while the other driver fires downward along with enclosure's port. In the menu, you can independently adjust the level of the subwoofer between -6dB and +6dB in 1dB increments.
Multibrand Remote: The DAV-X10 comes with an IR wireless remote (RM-ADP018) that is pre-programmed to operate this system and a number of functions on different brands of TVs and cable boxes. The remote has a slide-down panel that reveals more controls. Dimensions: Length = 9.246", Width = 1.909", Height = 0.971".
Speaker Output: The integrated DVD/CD receiver has a single 15-pin female DB-15 speaker output which is designed exclusively for the supplied speaker cable. The cable has a male DB-15 plug on one end and three speaker wires (for each satellite and the subwoofer) with proprietary 4-pin connectors on the other end.
Video Outputs: The video signal from the built-in DVD player is output from the HDMI, composite, S-Video, and component video outputs. The video signal from any component connected to the unit via its two composite video inputs (such as a camcorder, game console, or VCR) is output only from the unit's composite video monitor-out jack.
Digital Audio Inputs: The DAV-X10 is equipped with two coaxial digital inputs and two optical digital inputs. When connecting a component to the Sat/Cable input, you must select between the optical and coaxial digital inputs by setting the switch to the selected input.
DMPORT: There are two proprietary Digital Media Ports located on the rear-panel of the integrated DVD/CD receiver for connection of the supplied Bluetooth Adapter and other optional Digital Media Port adapters (sold separately).
