I just recieved my HC96 Camcorder yesterday and i just loved it the moment i held it in my palms ... it's very sleek and comfortable ... easy to operate and very handy to carry ... I would pick this one as the best choice in MiniDV handycam category ... This was my first experience with crutchfield and i was a little skeptical in the begining before placing the order ... but i got no more qualms about my decision and i would contnue to shop from here in the future too ...

Sony DCR-HC96

Camera operation itself is relatively easy. Like the touch screen. Plenty of features, but poor description there of in the manual. Video/still capturing and quality seem well above average. The software the camera comes with isn't so great. You can't put any video to DVD unless you have a Sony computer and the ability to pull pics off the memory card either with the program or with your OS is not as easy as with a still camera and again the instructions to do so are almost non-existent. Would recommend the camera to others.

Well worth the money

I bought this camcorder after returning a Canon DC40. The main reason I picked this camcorder over the Canon was the DVD media. I think all these DVD camcorders are being forced onto the consumer and yet these older miniDV's are still a better media. Besides that they are pretty comparable.
I do not like the touch screen feature. It's a nice gimmick, but thats all. It is not a practical feature for any camera or camcorder. You use the LCD to examine the quality of your video/pictures you take. It is just annoying to keep it clean. One other thing is the adapter, you have to have the adapter in order to connect to your computer. I would have liked to take the same quality of video with the memory card as with the tape also. Besides these drawbacks, this camcorder is very good. The controls are easily accessible and well laid out.

Satisfied Customer

I was really satisfied with the product. I was surprised at how easy it was to set up and operate and the video and audio quality is pretty decent also. I haven't tried still images yet, as I don't own a memory stick so I can't comment about that. I also recommend that you invest in a spare battery because the battery life is really bad. That, in fact, was the only disappointing feature. Still, this camcoder is a fine product.

Sony DCR-HC96

I've just started using Sony's DCR-HC96. My first impressions are good. It's a little difficult using the touch screen since most of the controls are near the bottom (It's probably easier for smaller hands).
The major problem I've encountered is running the software on my 64-bit operating system (Sony doesn't make 64-bit USB drivers). This was solved by purchasing a firewire cable and utilizing the iLink connection and Windows video software.
Overall I'm pleased and looking forward to watching video of my kids after they're grown up.
