Nice camera, easy to use, great screen. Tried canon sd 780 is which is rated very high but screen and really camera itself are too small and pic quality not great. Also tried lumix ZS1 which has nice design like this Sony but lacked pic quality, W290 is a great looking camera, and has some good editing features built into the camera. Wish it had more scene modes, but features are pretty good. Small enough to carry around but big enough to hold while taking pictures. The zoom lever on the back of the camera is nice too. Happy so far. Had to come to the realization that point and shoots of any brand can't take the kind of pictures my Nikon SLR does. For what they do though, this Sony is nice. Crutchfield is also easy to deal with and returns are as easy as they claim. Great company if you like on line shopping with quality products and great service.

Very Good Camera

Overall I feel that the W290 is a good camera. It has an easy to use menu system as well as a great LCD. Minor complain would be the buttons on the top of the camera (Power and shutter), they are recessed a little too much for my liking and at times slightly difficult to press. My one complaint would be soft pictures. I haven't had a whole lot of time to test out the camera, but from what I've seen, the pictures don't look quite as sharp as my sisters Canon 750. Don't get me wrong, the camera takes very good photos and is super easy to use, just so far they don't seem as sharp as other cameras.
Would I buy it again, I think I would because this camera has a lot of great features for the money, takes very good (not great) pictures, and records 720p HD (no zoom while recording), and a 5x zoom...This camera is tough to beat for the price. It's definitely worthy for you to give it a try.

Very Good

Overall a very good camera. Takes nice photos, with all the settings pretty much automated (which is what I like). The HD video works well but you have to adjust the zoom prior to shooting since you can't change it once you start. Shutter lag is acceptable but still there. I guess the one minor complaint I could make is the ergonomics - the shutter button is too small and the unit is not as friendly to hold as it could be. The LCD viewscreen is sharp and bright. The built in photo editing features are great, and the smile capture works very well. I recommend getting a camera case too.
