It's nice when you can plug your iPod® into your car stereo and play all your tunes on the road, but where do you keep your player when you're driving? Sony's DSX-S310BTX receiver solves this dilemma with its innovative Tune Tray. It lets you connect your iPod and store it inside the stereo, keeping it secure and charged while you drive.

Built-in iPod controls
With your iPod safely stowed, you can access your music library using the stereo's controls. Sony's Quick-BrowZer™ lets you search by artist, album, genre, song, or playlist. You can also fly through your library with Jump Mode, which lets you skip around in 10% increments. An additional USB input on the front panel lets you connect your iPhone® or another USB device.

Enjoy PANDORA® Internet radio streaming via Bluetooth
Built-in Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free, but it also lets you stream music from a compatible device. You can even control your Android™ or Blackberry™ smartphone's PANDORA® app right from the stereo while streaming. iPhone users can control PANDORA® while connected to the front-panel USB input.

Bright, 4-line display
Whether you're making a hands-free call, streaming a PANDORA® station, or listening to your iPod, Sony's 4-line Organic Electro-Luminescent (OEL) display shows you plenty of info. You can also choose between red and blue button illumination.

Fine-tune your sound
Sony's Advanced Sound Engine lets you tailor your sound to match your system and taste. You can set the timing of your speakers for your listening position, so you're always sitting in the sweet spot. Low- and high-pass filters let you block frequencies your speakers can't handle, helping them run more efficiently. Use the Rear Bass Enhancer to dial in more bottom end to fill out your sound, and tweak the overall tone with a robust, 7-band parametric equalizer.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Sony stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and this Sony, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

    Display Features

Detachable Fold-Down Face: The Sony DSX-S310BTX digital media receiver features a detachable fold-down face for theft prevention. Two face-fixing screws are supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. The digital media receiver's face folds down to access the unit's USB port. The fold-down face requires 1.6875" of space to open. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Caution Alarm: If you turn the ignition switch to the Off position without detaching the front-panel, the caution alarm will sound for a few seconds. The alarm will only sound if the built-in amplifier is used.

OEL Display: The 4-line OEL (organic electroluminescent light) display makes it easy to read station & song information.

Image Display: The Sony DSX-S310BTX offers various display images to choose from. You can select between Movie, Spectrum Analyzer (1-3), Wall Paper (1-4), All (displays rotation of all images), or Off.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Dimmer: You can manually dim the display at night, if desired. You can operate the display dimmer automatically, when the vehicle's lights are turned on, or manually. If the dimmer is set to automatic, the orange/white wire in the power harness must be connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit in order to properly work.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button for 1 second will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Selectable Button Illumination: The Sony DSX-S310BTX offers selectable blue or red key illumination to complement your vehicle's interior lighting.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

    Audio Section

True Fidelity Sound Construction: The Sony DSX-S310BTX FM/AM compact disc player features a newly developed sound processor for less distortion, an S-MOSFET IC for smooth signal transmission, and a large-sized capacitor for deep bass sound.

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Sony DSX-S310BTX utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

CEA2006 Compliant Amplifier: The power specifications for the Sony DSX-S310BTX are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DSX-S310BTX are as follows:

    • Continuous Power Output: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Power Output: 52 watts x 4-channels (208 total watts)

Three 4-Volt Preamp Outputs with Adjustable Crossovers: The Sony DSX-S310BTX is equipped with 4-volt Front, Rear, and Sub pre-amp outputs with selectable LPF/HPF (Low Pass Filter/High Pass Filter) functionality, giving you the ability to customize the sound output to your external amplifiers.

    • High-Pass Filter: The front and rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off.
    • Low Pass Filter: The subwoofer output is non-fading with a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the subwoofer preamp output's Phase (Normal/Reverse).

Sound Balance/Fader: The sound balance between the left and right speakers (Balance) and front and rear speakers (Fader) can be adjusted to your preference. You can also adjust the volume level (+/-10dB) of the subwoofer preamp output.

Advanced Sound Engine: Sony's Advanced Sound Engine creates an ideal in-car sound field with digital signal processing. Advanced Sound Engine contains the following features: EQ7, Listening Position, DM+ Advanced, Rear Bass Enhancer, and Dynamic Loudness.

    • EQ7 (Parametric Tune): You can select an equalizer curve from eight music types - Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom, or Off (Flat). The Custom EQ7 mode allows you to make your own equalizer settings. You can adjust the level (+/-6dB) of seven different frequency bands - Band1 (40Hz or 63Hz), Band2 (100Hz or 160Hz), Band3 (250Hz or 400Hz), Band4 (630Hz or 1kHz), Band5 (1.6kHz or 2.5khz), Band6 (4.0kHz or 6.3khz), and Band7 (10.0kHz or 16.0kHz).
    • Listening Position (Time Alignment): This unit can change the localization of sound by delaying the sound output from each speaker to suit your position, and simulate a natural sound field with the feeling of being in the center of it wherever you sit in the car. You can choose from Front Right, Front Left, Front Center, Custom or Off. The Custom Mode lets you precisely calibrate your listening position distance from each speaker so that the sound delay reaches the listener more correctly. The distance is adjustable between 0.99-9.9'. You can also set the subwoofer distance to Near, Normal, or Far.
    • RBE (Rear Bass Enhancer): RBE enhances the bass sound by applying the low-pass filter setting to the rear speakers. This function allows the rear speakers to work as a subwoofer even if there is no subwoofer connected.
    • Dynamic Loudness: Dynamic Loudness refers to compensating for volume level and signal gain.
    • DM+ Advanced: DM+ Advanced improves digitally compressed sound by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process (works only for USB).

Beep Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

Pandora is the leading Internet Radio music service in the United States, giving people music they love anytime, anywhere, through personalized radio stations. Simply start with the name of one of your favorite artists, songs, or classical composers & Pandora will create a "personalized station" that plays their music & other music like it.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

iPhone Compatibility: To access Pandora via the unit's front-panel USB ports, you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS3 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Android & BlackBerry Compatibility: To access Pandora via the head unit's built-in Bluetooth, you must have a Bluetooth enabled Android or BlackBerry smartphone with the latest version of the Pandora application installed. Your Android or Blackberry smartphone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Online Software

Content Transfer/SensMe Online Software: The Content Transfer/SensMe online software can organize your music into playlists that perfectly match your mood, scene, and location, making it easier to choose the music that fits the moment. SensMe actually looks at the beats-per-minute and automatically groups your music (stored on your windows-based computer) into channels, making listening and managing all of your content even simpler. Once you have downloaded & used the SensMe software to organize your PC's music, you can then transfer that music to your USB device (Not iPod/iPhone) for playback on the Sony head unit. Very nice unit, but the blue tooth audio failed when it was just out of warranty. It was very difficult to each anyone at Sony to discuss the failure. First level tech support was difficult to understand, and did not know how to forward me to customer relations, since they sent me to a number which hung up on me..

Pros: Good sound, tune tray is a nice feature.

Cons: suffered a failure in only one year, and it was just about impossible to reach anyone at Sony.

This is one outstanding radio. The sound separation, power, and clarity of this unit far exceeded the factory radio with no add on equipment. IPhone connection was quick and easy. The IPod feature, the main reason for deciding to purchase this unit, worked very well, with music titles/performer listed on radio display. The display was always clear, even in the bright Florida sun with the top down on this convertible. Packaging, instructions, supporting installation, wire harnesses, and car model documentation were all an A++. Also, the Crutchfield Technical Support was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. (Casey was GREAT..... THANK YOU !!!) Note too, the You Tube video on the "reviews" assisted me a lot with the initial set up and learning the different functions. (Visuals do speak louder than Sony's instruction words in their booklet.) Final analysis... I recommend Crutchfield and this Sony Radio/Media Player strongly.

Pros: Crutchfield (More US companies should look to you as the customer service role model); Sony Quality; Front mounted USB jack; IPOD hidden behind unit face; readable display brightness even in bright sunlight; easy to learn functions; immediate IPhone connection at start up; warning tones when IPod is left in radio when ignition key is removed/radio turned off.

Cons: I see this Sony Radio has been discontinued. This is sad as this is a Quality Product,.... but may be this means a new advanced model could be coming out in the near future as it's replacement.

For the price you can't beat this. I basically swapped my old Rockford Fosgate head unit for the Sony DSX-S310BTX, with the hardware given it took me no time to install it.

The reason I got this unit was mainly for the hid-a-way ipod compartment. I was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews, like you can't leave the ipod inside the unit when you leave the car and it won't come back on. i figured out that when I leave it in it works just fine. I never have to take it out. I did notice when I had the bluetooth on and I didn't have the phone in the car to sync with me the unit wouldn't recognize the ipod, but if I turned of the bluetooth off in that scenario it would recognize the ipod immediately. So no issue.

The other reason I got this was for the bluetooth hands free. Works awesome!!! The mic was easy to install and I haven't had any issues with calls. In coming and out going volumes work just fine.

One thing I do have to say is its a little bit difficult to get to and scroll through menus while driving. The Multi-way encoder (nob/dial/whatever..) is a little sensitive. Little easier to use when you are on the freeway/straightways with no traffic or at a stop... Also, I wish there was a start up volume you can set. After rocking out the night before, if I forget to turn the volume down I'm blasted with music the next time I start up the car. My old head unit allowed you to set the start up volume and I thought it was a great feature. Maybe this

Pros: iPod functions - Excelent Bluetooth - Excelent Installation - Excelent Price - Excelent

Cons: Multi-way encoder is a little wobbly/sensitive no start up volume ( would be a nice feature)

We installed this receiver in our 2005 Taurus, the Tune Tray is a great feature! The Blue Tooth mic is great but looks nicer when mounted out of sight instead of on the instrument cluster bezel like the instructions indicate. I would definitely recommend this product to friends and family.

Pros: Tune Tray, Blue Tooth capable, fully functional remote, multiple USB inputs

Cons: Intermittent "NO device connected" when using the Tune Tray, selector knob too touchy.

This is a great sounding unit. There was a minor wiring issue with the solid blue wire, but after speaking to a Cructhfield tech it was quickly resolved. The controls are sturdy, the functionality is great, you have to read the instructions very carefully to get the best out of the unit. I would recommend that you make sure to get a compatible storage drive before you try to use the USB ports.

Pros: Tech support is great at Cructhfield

    Cons: non

This has all the features that I was looking for: iPod/iPhone compatibility and control, good sound quality, Bluetooth for Pandora or phone calls, no unneeded CD player (I haven't played a CD in years now!) and obviously it fits my vehicle.

I've noticed the connection to the USB internal port is intermittent. The system doesn't seem to recognize my iPod at times. Reading through the manual tells me that I shouldn't connect a device to the port until after turning the car on. (Not exactly convenient if you leave the player in the internal bay!) I'll give this new process a try next time.

This went in my 2001 Suburban quite well. One call to tech support immediately answered the one question I had and we had some glorious sound

Pros: Internal storage for iPod/MP3 player. Lots of features.

Cons: Connection to internal USB port is intermittent. User interface is not intuitive. Perhaps too MANY features.

Just installed in my 88 BMW 5 series, I am very happy with the ease of installation, ease of setting up, sound quality, and features. The radio reception is fantastc even using the original antenna. The iPod and iPhone interface is great and I really like the ability to store the iPod inside the unit.

Pros: More than enough power for what I enjoy listening to. The sound field adjustments are great. Once again the iPad, iPhone interface is great

Cons: The multi function knob feels a bit fragile and can be a bit hard to get just the function you wanted while driving (my suspension is a bit stiffer than stock and the radio is a small reach) sometimes you hit a bump just as your finger gets to the knob and you bump it up or down instead of left or right. Using the remote control is much easier once you get used to it.

As far as automotive sounds, I have to say that this is the best buy I have ever made in decades!!! I have never been so pleased with a single head unit as I am with this one. I have just finished installing this head unit into my vehicle and it is immaculate! Sony really did it this time. I have owned a Sony player in my first car and I have came across many other brand head units in my lifetime and I have to say that this is one I am most pleased with and one that I will have for decades to come. I can not ask for any more; Bluetooth connectivity was simple, adjusting the HPF and LPF is cake and that is really where I was completely sold on this head unit. Customization is there. I tested it out in my vehicle and fell in love with it, I then rushed to complete the installation and it turned my aftermarket speakers into an almost competition series speakers. My 6"1/2 front speakers sounds like 6x9's in the front and my 6x9s in the rear sounded like a nice single sub, I really could not be any happier with this purchase. I was actually thinking about upgrading all my wire and adding an amp and sub into the mix, but I am only looking to daily drive my vehicle and this is just perfect. I am currently using the stock wires which are 8-16 gauge wires and it literally sounds like I have an amp and sub in the rear. I also love that everything is already built into the head unit, there is no need for any external bluetooth adapters and etc.

Pros: Best player for a daily drivers #period! It is simple, sound quality is exquisite. Customization is there. looks are new age, and looks like a Promethean from Halo 4, haha...

Cons: For daily driven vehicles there are no cons, and I can stand by that all day everyday...

It has been a few years since I did my last install, but I am restoring my car and needed an upgrade in sound quality and the world of bluetooth. This radio met all of my expectations. I read the other reviews and experienced none of the problems. I installed a complete system upgrade (speakers, amp, sub) with this. I use an 8g Ipod nano 4 in the tune tray and bluetooth with a Iphone 4S . The sound settings and adjustments tie everything together. The tune tray is a brilliant idea and keeps the look clean. Best way to use the last generation Ipod. Needless to say, I am very satisfied.

Pros: Tune tray , RDS info, bluetooth and the sound settings. Everything you need

Cons: none, however sense me and zappin are overkill

    Overall good system.

Overall I like the stereo. As others have said, the controls take some getting used to, and unless you are on a smooth road, it can be a challenge to move the selector wheel.

Pros: Good overall, easy to install, nice feature to hide the ipod inside the unit.

Cons: Annoying selector wheel. Vague menu system. Annoying beep when you shut it off with the ipod in it. I know! I left it there on purpose!

I couldn't wait to get this radio. The coolness factors are great; iPod tray, the amp adjustment options & I luv the 4 line display. But defective right out of the box. I drive a stick shift so the Bluetooth feature is one of the main reasons I wanted this radio. Never ever worked from day one. I have many other intermittent problems with this radio. It loses connection with my iPod often. Uninstalling & reinstalling the iPod often doesn't re establish connection. I usually have to reset the radio all together then reset the EQ all over again once I'm able to stop the car. At times when turning the key for the 1st time of the day I get an awful static sound until I turn the radio off then back on. At times the display goes black but the unit keeps working. There's been times it stopped playing. The display shows all the track info but the track numbers aren't moving & there's no sound as if I have it paused. Usually when this happens there's nothing I can do to make it work again. Eventually it'll start working on it's own. I think Sony really had some great ideas for this radio but they really need to work on the bugs. I stretched far outside of my budget for this unit because it's packed with so many features I need and want. The sound quality is great. Many complain about how bright the display is but personally I like it. At night it sets a night time cruise mood in my car. However, all of these issues make me wanna 4get a warranty replacement & go with another brand.

Pros: iPod tray, Bluetooth, 4 line display, the design overall is nice & looks cool. I have no problem with the knob design as I always use the remote.

Cons: Way too many bugs and kinks. Especially with losing USB connection, often! I've been a fan of Sony & I hate to say but I wouldn't recommend this unit to anyone.

Bought this unit for the features, love the ipod tray and no cords. Replaced the stock head unit in a 92 BMW 325IS. Hands free works flawless, crystal clear. Install was easy one hickup a call to support fixed in two minutes over the phone. Huge range of settings make twenty year old speakers sound as better than expected. Remote makes life on the road safe no need to look at the display load a playlist and go.

    Pros: Features and functions.

Cons: more color options for display would be nice.

So far no complaints to really worry about. The main annoyance is when making a call the voice dial feature on my phone (the prompt itself) is SOOO loud compared to the actual call. Weird, because it wasn't like this when using my blueant hands free. I'd like to think it's the phone (Motorola Razr MAXX HD / Android), but only happens on this radio. The dial/knob/button/joystick is a little touchy as alot have mentioned, but like everyone else, I've learned to live with it because of all of the other features! I also drive a crew cab 2500hd and unless trying to use while hitting bumps, it's ok. The phone doesn't display mp3 music data on the screen, only Pandora. Sony states this may happen right in the manual, so it's anyones guess as to what makes that part work??? All in all, great radio, seamless hookup, bluetooth button not a waste to me because I start the truck outside sometimes, then turn on / off quickly using the radio to easily pair - works great, especially compared to alot of other bluetooth devices I've had over the years! ......now just need a subwoofer.... I'm open to donations or bartering :-)

This seemed like the perfect solution for my needs: I don't use CDs anymore, I want Bluetooth connectivity, and I wanted an external plugin for USB devices. I've owned this since July 2012.

Overall, given the quality problems I've had, I wouldn't recommend this unless I could get a pain-free one year warranty. A 60-day warranty is not sufficient at all.

Cons: - USB inner connectivity became intermittent around day 75 of ownership (outside of warranty!) and now doesn't work at all. DEAL KILLER. As a user below pointed out, the USD devices show as "Not Supported" or "No Device". - Bluetooth connectivity does NOT have high quality sound during streaming from my iPhone...this might be my iPhone 5 but I don't get the same loss of quality when I stream from this iPhone to a Jambox - Horrible knob design and functionality. This unit utilizes a sort of joystick type of control for song navigation and it's very finicky and hard to direct. After five months I still have a lot of trouble navigating menus - Horrible button layout. Wow. I thought that whatever the navigation scheme was via buttons and the joystick, I'd be able to live with it because the other hardware features were so strong. Alas, the buttons are not intuitive and the aforementioned joystick control makes the user experience typically confusing. Why is it that car stereo manufacturers can't spend money on industrial design to create something easy to use.

Pros: - incredibly designed, hidden tray for iPods and other USB devices - good sound - a wide variety of input flexibility - fairly easy connection to Bluetooth devices - easy installation

Cons: I really wanted to like this unit and on paper it seemed too good to be true. It is. This unit is going in the right direction, but it falls short in key areas of quality and design.

i decided to pick up this radio to replace my alpine cda-9851 that 7 years old. what made me pick this head unit is my friend has this one in his show truck that has a big high end system and i saw this nice 30 minute review on YouTube . sony has got allot better the sony that came with my car was garbage.i like it has a tune trey so i can have my iPod inside and have my iPhone or a friends iPod on the front usb at the same time. the Bluetooth is great the quality of the call is great and the mic that comes with the radio is good other cool features about the Bluetooth is that when i have my phone connected it show how many bars of signal i have and the battery you can do Bluetooth audio when you get a call it pauses your music unless your listening to am/fm or Sirius and shows the number and if the name of the person if you have there number saved. if you are using a iPod and wanna search for instance a artist you can push the knob to the right and search them by the first letter if you have a iPod or iPhone connected on front usb and have a passenger that wants to control it from the iPod or iPhone it's self instead of from the radio. you can control Pandora from the iPhone via front usb or android and blackberry via Bluetooth and thumbs up or thumbs down or skip. the down falls is the sense me program is only available for windows :( does not have built in hd radio it's additional $100 for it and the presets is in the search button instead of preset buttons on the radio

All though difficult to use, the radio works fine and the sound quality is good. The USB function is terrible. Most of the time USD devices show as "Not Supported" or "No Device". This happens with both the front USB port and the internal tray; and with every USB Device I try. Sometimes I can get it to work by opening and closing the front panel or by removing and reinstalling the device. Often nothing works. What's so hard about engineering a USB port that works?

    Pros: Sound quality and features.

    Cons: Almost useless USB function.

    Excellent design, albeit with flaws

First off, let me preface my review by letting you know that yes, I would recommend the Sony.

I was pretty leery about ordering another Sony audio product, as I've had a couple of car audio lemons from them in the past; when it comes to TVs and game consoles, Sony is tops although their audio has left a lot to be desired in the past.

    Not so with the DSX-S310BTX.

When searching Crutchfield's decks, I was adamant that I wanted a.) a rear USB port for iPod b.) a front USB to charge my phone and c.) full bluetooth compatibility, and I was shocked at what little selection manufacturers offered. In my humble opinion, the complaints about lack of CD stacker control are ridiculous- it's 2012. who listens to CDs anymore!?! While we're at it, what about adding an 8-track input? Anyways, as far as the actual deck goes, the design is ingenious. Having the iPod actually in the deck is a fantastic idea, and I was surprised that the other guys haven't copied it, seeing as most people I know haven't listened to a CD in at least 5 years. In addition to the iPod 'cubby', I can charge my phone using the front USB port and connect to the deck via A2DP/AVRCP- everything I was looking for.

Pros: - intuitive iPod storage design (no CD- yeah!!) - sound/call quality - iPod AND Android control - solid feel - intuitive sound customization - wiring harness - Crutchfield support

Cons: - price/value - dubious Sony audio quality - display (lack of customization, brightness adjustment, legibility) - finicky faceplate - install guide doesn't give any help on taking apart the console/dash

It integrated well with my factory amp and sub and sounds great. I use a flash drive to listen to music. I'm used to head units that allow me to plug in a flash drive and forget about it. Sony forces me to plug the drive in after starting the car and then I can't leave the usb in a the parked car or "malfunction will result". If I get the sequence wrong or accidentally push the wrong button, it will refuse to recognize whatever I have plugged into it. Had I know about this issue, I would have had second thoughts about buying this unit.

    Pros: Great Sound

    Cons: Not easy to use

    Absolutely love it

Got this unit and installed it in my Honda S2000, along with the ASWC integration unit to maintain my console controls. I love the look of the unit and how I don't need to be selective in the cds I bring along...just scroll through the menu and select my playlist and I'm good to go! Call quality using the unit is really good, too. My main complaint, though, is that the menu/scrolling system is a bit clunky to use, it's a little easier to use the supplied remote, but using the knob takes a bit of practice. I guess I need to give myself time to acquaint myself to the controls/menus, but other than that, I am really happy with my purchase!

Pros: Sleek look, great sound quality, exterior component integration, bluetooth connectivity, wired mic for better voice output on calls

Cons: Menu system takes time to get used to.

Nice unit for the money but it takes a while to get used to the menu system. Using the main knob for almost everything takes practice. Bluetooth set up was as easy as anyone could ask for. Bluetooth connectivity to our Droid phone allows us to play music, Pandora, and take calls. The iPod tray that is inside the unit is a great way to attach and hide your iPod and works great. This was for my son's car but I may get one for mine.

Pros: Price, design(for the most part) and features. The sound quality is GREAT and we still have the factory speakers in!

Cons: Takes a while to get used to the complex menu system using the main knob.

Great unit overall, and don't regret my purchase at all. I installed it (using the detailed instructions included) two weeks ago into my '01 Silverado Z-71 - very pleased. I'd considered Alpine and Kenwood also, and I've always been happy with my Alpines in the past. What sold me here was the internal iPod storage, ability to stream music, and overall bluetooth/handsfree capabilities. There are units out there with more bells and whistles, but you don't miss anything with this unit, really. Sound quality is unsurprisingly good, but it should be (MB Quarts with Alpine power). Bottom line is you won't regret your purchase.

Pros: -Bluetooth performance with my iPhone4 is flawless for my iTunes; flawless also with handsfree pairing and handling phone calls. -Mic clarity excellent, as is Sirius antennae reception. -No power issues whatsoever - to address some concerns I read prior to purchase; likely these folks had compatibility issues stemming from the vehicle itself.....just speculating. -Build quality seems top rate, but time will tell the true story.

Cons: -Can't control Pandora via bluetooth with DSX if you've an iPhone; have to plug into front USB port. -Only blue and red are your wallpaper color options...but, contrary to other comments I've read, I've no issue with the brightness of either color. -Why is the bluetooth button so large?! -It's not as intuitive as one might hope regarding your menu options. -Menu/volume knob is difficult to "center push" when accessing menu options.....no, it really is!

This unit is really cool. The thing is built well and feels sturdy. The sound is fantastic and it has no issues with my phone on any level. I have never actually owned a Sony head unit before and I must say I am impressed! The thin is a little hard to get used to but I have been using the factory setup for years so that could be some of the issues facing me. I had no issues installing this thing and the face folds down with no issues to getting the tune tray to open. I have found that I use a 32 gig "built" for car audio memory stick in the front usb more than anything. This pushes my Pioneer speakers to some very nice heights! The Pandora for android has worked flawlessly and the BT functions for the phone work like a champ. Love the fact that with Pandora or just streaming music from my phones player that the GPS lady breaks into the music to give me directions (I use the GPS function on my phone)! So when I travel I just use my phone to play music which works great as my phone has 32 gig of music stored on it! Overall I would recomend this unit to anyone and everyone looking for a great bump in sound quality and convience at the cost of good bump!

Pros: Sound is great and the BT is perfect! It also looks really cool :)

Cons: The only con for me is the knob and the "burried" features.

Recently bought this product for my c5 corvette and the major problem i have with it is that the internal ipod USB connection is really hard to get it linked. Sometimes its easy when you first start the car, but when you go somewhere for a quick stop or if your car stalls and you cut it right back on, it doesn't recognize the ipod, i have an iTouch and it gets it to charge, but it doesn't bring any sound. When you do get that connection its very easy to surf through the ipod playlists and songs and fast too. I've had stereos where it takes a while for ipod songs to load through, this ones is relatively fast. Other then that i haven't had much of a chance to install the radio properly since i was sent the wrong cable for the factory bypass system i ordered and sometimes when you start the car, the faceplate doesn't come on right away, so you have to flip the faceplate down, then up a few times until it lights up.

Pros: bluetooth connection works great and when you can get an ipod connection, very quick and easy to surf through the menu and playlists

Cons: Inside USB connection hard to stay connected and face plate doesn't always come on when starting the car

Media Receiver FTW! I have been using the 300BTX for six months now and have been very happy with it. My main reasons for purchasing were Bluetooth for hands free calling (local law prohibits cell phone use by the driver of a vehicle), and the internal iPod tray since I didn't want to have the usb cable connected to the front of the radio. I installed this in a commercial 2011 Ford E250, I received complaints at highway speeds from people I was talking to on the phone, I do recommend the external mic for high noise vehicles. Phone pairing, which guidance from the manual, was easy and connects without issue when the vehicle is started. iPod control is great, though it is not true to the iPod itself, it is easy to navigate with the remote. The "knob" can be difficult to use, it can be difficult to press the knob and not scroll or press an arrow when in motion. Also since the knob is on the left side of the receiver, as am I, my hand is in front of the screen when scrolling though menus. I find myself using the included remote more often than not for all receiver functions. I had to use a dash kit to install this head unit in my Ford, the knob prevents the face from folding down completely to access the iPod. I was made the decision to modify the dash kit so the face could fold down, the alternative was removing the face to access the iPod. The manual warns damage may occur if the iPod is left in the head unit, I have not experienced any issues with my iPod classic.

Pros: Bluetooth, Hands Free Calling, internal iPod storage, included remote.

Cons: The control knob can be difficult to use and interfered with the face folding down when installed using a dash kit for a double din vehicle. The button and control knob illumination is lacking, the blue is brilliant and very distracting at night, red isn't a very pleasant color but is much dimmer than the blue.

I bought this unit for one reason, the bluetooth. After buying several headsets and ear buds for my phone I got tired of the batteries going dead when talking to a customer trying to get directions. I installed this in a Kenworth T600. Mounted the mic on the sun visor, and it works great. Playing my music from my phone is another nice feature. the sound quality is as good as the sony Xplode which I took out for this unit. Overall I'm glad I bought this.

Pros: The phone feature works great and the sound is good.

I bought this deck to have more connectivity to my iPhone 4s. I couldn't be happier. I had a high end Alpine before, and didn't expect the quality to be any better. The sound is much cleaner and there are so many ways to connect to the deck. Friends can easily connect by bringing their standard USB cable, or simply connecting to the stereo via bluetooth. An amazing product.

Pros: Media flexibility, sound quality, cool factor, bluetooth

    Cons: Control stick

Great product, very easy to install, most items are very easy to use, Crutchfeld gives you everything you need to install, i have never installed a stereo before and am not very handy with electronics and had zero problems installing. Do make sure you search online for any issues with your car in realation to stereo instilation. Bluetooth works great with pandora and with the phone, sound quality is excellent, displays are easy to use, easy to customize sound settings, and sensme settings are very cool. Great value.

Pros: Bluetooth is great, easy to install, and to use.

Cons: Hard to figure out more complicated settings at first if you dont read manual, beeps at you if your car is off and there is a device hooked up, which is dumb because i like to leave a usb in there.

Recently bought and installed in a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5, w/out BOSE system. Installed without difficulty, all colors in the wiring matched, and no problems encountered. Product is sleek and smooth, gives my altima a great looking style. Lots of compliments on the look and the interface. The controls were a little different, but with any new unit there is going to be a little getting used to the new interface. It wasn't hard to master. Sound quality and EQ controls are awesome, my stock system sounds great with this little beast. The blutooth feature is also really nice, and connects instantly as I start my car. I can stream music or pandora without any loss of audio quality. The tuner isn't as good as my stock stereo, as I am not getting a few of my local stations that I used to, but for me this was not an issue as I usually just listen to my ipod in the tune tray filled with 16 gigs of all my favorite tunes. And if I get bored of that, the pandora feature is also nice. All in all, I absolutely love this model, and I am completely satisfied with Crutchfield's service and support. I recommend this product to anyone who is tired of going through stacks of burned CD's only holding 20 songs each max!

Pros: Bluetooth built-in, stylish interface, brilliant red and blue color, all my music in my car, flawless audio quality, tune-tray to keep my device stored away

Cons: Tuner not the best, but not why I bought the unit in the first place!

I recently bought the S310BTX from Crutchfield. I put it in a 2007 Dodge 1500 Ram pickup. The installation was simple, it took all of an hour, tops. If you have the same vehicle as me, do yourself a favor and get the interface module that Crutchfield recommends. It adds the switched power input you need for the head unit. I bought this unit because it has the ipod tray, bluetooth and pandora streaming to my blackberry and multi-line display (i hate the scolling head units). All of these functions work nicely but I do have some complaints. Overall it is a good unit but with some flaws. I would recommend it until a newer unit comes out that has a nicer interface (maybe the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT??). We'll see.

Pros: Tune Tray is cool (works with ipod/iphone and flash drives), bluetooth is sweet (no adapter is needed), Bluetooth pairing is fast and easy, 6 channel amp outputs, multi-line display is nice (no more scrolling!)

Cons: To many abbreviations in the Menu setup (how are we supposed to memorize all this stuff?) , No Mute button for quick volume muting, no multi-color display (red or blue only), Main button/knob controller is finicky and hard to use (good luck pressing the button when driving down the road), Confusing button layout (do we really need a dedicated button for SensMe and Zap?), Remote has alot of buttons (more than competitors), Price is high compared to others with these features.

The functionality of this unit is excellent, but actually controlling the unit with the multi-function wheel is still a challenge after a few weeks of usage. I find it necessary to rest the side of my hand on the dashboard lip or adjusting the volume will result in skipping tracks, or trying to press the control wheel will result in a directional click. Any attempt to touch the unit on anything other than a perfectly smooth road is generally going to have poor results. I also find the illumination to be less than ideal. The blue lights are very attractive, but far too bright at night, the red lights are acceptable at night, but hard to see in daylight. My personal preference is always amber, but this is not an option on the unit. The text display seems quite good, and the automatic dimming sets the brightness appropriately.

My assessment of the sound is a relative rating. I am still using stock speakers and this unit sounds great compared to the factory unit.

Bluetooth integration with Android ICS 4.0.2 seemed to have problems, phone needed to be paired each time the car was started. Updating to ICS 4.0.4 resolved all issues, and Bluetooth has paired perfectly.

Pros: Pandora Integration with Bluetooth. Bluetooth call quality seems quite good. Internal USB connector allows access to thousands of tracks on a memory stick.

Cons: Multi-function control wheel causes selection errors. Cryptic button labels and strange layout. Should be able to disable unused inputs for easier source selection. Can not turn off forgotten faceplate alarm. Long scan on USB memory stick, even if tracks are unchanged since last use.

If you are shopping around comparing radios you can stop at this one, especially if you have an iPhone. The price is great for what you all get in this unit. I put this in my Mercury Mariner and it literally took me a couple of minutes to install. I was sent the wrong wiring harness so I went to Best Buy and bought the correct one. I called Crutchfield and told them I was sent the wrong one and they credited me money back for the wiring harness since I went and bought one already, great customer service!!

My favorite feature of this unit is the Bluetooth function. I have my iPhone 4 connected to the unit through Bluetooth and it is playing audio and calls on the stereo. Even through Bluetooth the stereo displays all your songs and artists. When I have an incoming call it is so nice that the stereo displays the person that is calling you.

Overall I love this stereo unit and the set up is extremely easy. Highly recommend for the price as well!!!

    Pros: All of the functionality!!

Cons: NONE which is crazy because I usually always find one in a product.

I just installed this receiver and with a few calls to tech (they answered right away...with no annoying menus to slog through) I had it running. Another minute and the bluetooth was set up and Pandora was running off my BlackBerry.

I am very impressed, the sound is great and the features are absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend this to anyone as you can't pack more stuff into a receiver at this price. I did find the center knob a bit fussy, so just know that going in, but there wasn't anything on the market like this and it is still easy to search your iPod and radio stations.

In summary, I recommend this, but watch out for that center knob.
