The unit I received was pretty much useless. It wouldn't play some of my DVD's that work fine on a Samsung that I have since purchased. It also displayed subtitles randomly throughout the movies that it would play. The menu interface was really cheesy and looked like 80's Atari game technology. Excessively noisy (clicking and clanking) when loading a DVD and took a while to figure out that it had a DVD in it. I bought it mainly because it was a Sony but it was most un-Sony-like. I have a Sony surround sound system and it is fantanstic. Can't say that for this though.

Great CD player

I bought this to replace my broken CD player since no one makes a dedicated CD player at a realistic price anymore. I was told that DVD players take too long to recognize CDs. Not so with this unit. I put in a CD-R with regular audio tracks, not MP3s, and it recognized it and began playing it as fast as a regular CD player would. I wanted a unit with a display on the front so I could see which track was playing. Works great as a replacement CD player for 1/3rd the price. Since it is not connected to a TV, I can say nothing about its picture quality.

Sony DVD player

I am very happy with this player. The only thing I miss is a clock but thats no big deal. Its such an improvement over my old player. The movies are so much brighter & a better picture. The price is reasonable & I would recommend it to all.

Great Features and Versatility

This player is worth every penny. It is very versatile in that it can connect to everything from a SDTV with RCAs, component or S-video to a HDTV with HDMI, digital coaxial or optical audio. It has settings that will make either of these set-ups look and sound great, including a nice pseudo-surround effect setting for non-surround sound systems like what I am using. Another great feature is that when it turns off it will resume from the exact spot on the disc where it was interrupted.
Overall you will not be disappointed with this player - Highly recommended!!!

Sony does it again!

I couldn't decide on a BLU-RAY Player or this player after reading many reviews on the internet, but I just purchased the Samsung LN37A450 LCD and it is a 720p & 1080i HDTV so why get the Blu-Ray when I can spend this much and get an awesome picture.
Set-up was fairly easy with the menu on the DVD, it took me maybe 15 minutes to set up my video and audio options..My suggestion is to read the manual first.
I Then put on the "Terminator 2" DVD ( 1080 Version not the Blu-ray either )and WOW! what a picture! almost looks as good as a Blu-ray..I then tried the DVD "The Incredibles" with DTS decoding and same WOW!..then the ultimate test for me.."STAR WARS Revenge of the Sith"..again Incredible picture and sound. I am extremely happy with this purchase and I used Component cables not even HDMI yet! Can't wait till I get my HDMI cable.
