Download, stream, and store 4K content for your Ultra HD TV

Sony's 4K Ultra HD TVs have offered eye-popping picture quality from day one. The only question on the minds of owners of these TVs was, "What about 4K content?" Sony's brilliant answer is the second-generation FMP-X10 Ultra HD media player. Connect it to your Sony 4K Ultra HD TV to experience the very best picture it can deliver. Now, owners of non-Sony TVs can get in on the fun, too. With a firmware update, the FMP-X10 can be connected to 4K TVs from the likes of Samsung, LG, and Sharp (TV must have an HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI input).

To whet your appetite for the stunning detail and immersive realism of 4K, the FMP-X10 comes with over 50 free titles in 4K: short films, documentaries, music videos and sports videos. The media player's built-in 1-terabyte hard drive gives you the ability to download full-length movies and shows from Sony's 4K Unlimited Store — the largest collection of 4K Ultra HD content available. Ordering from this regularly updated library of 4K material is easy, from the comfort of your living room. Both purchase and 24-hour rental options are available for most titles. Need even more space for movies? No problem. Simply connect an external USB hard drive.

Using the FMP-X10 is easy. It includes a remote control, and can also be operated using the remote control that comes with any of Sony's 2014 Ultra HD TVs.

Netflix, now in 4K

The FMP-X10 is the first Ultra HD media player to include “HEVC” decoding, which means it can decode streamed 4K Netflix® content for watching on a compatible Sony 4K TV. This is an especially valuable feature for owners of 2013 Sony 4K TVs because those models lacked built-in HEVC decoding.

Product Highlights:

  • 4K Ultra HD media player for use with compatible 2013 and newer Sony Ultra HD TVs
  • via a firmware update, the FMP-X10 can be connected to 4K TVs from other manufacturers, like Samsung, LG, and Sharp (TV must have an HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI input)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Arrived on time and easy to connect to my new Sony XBR70X850B. It was offered as an incentive to buy the TV. A little disapointed in the free content advertised. Most movies are only available for purchase or rent. Quite a few short subjects that show off the 4K picture quality.

Pros: Free with TV purchase, 4K

Cons: Built in and available 4K content for free

X10 with my LG 55LA9650

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been waiting for this player ever since it was announced first announced but I did not have a Sony TV which was required at the time but NO longer. When I read that Sony oped up the X10 to any brand of 4K TV I immediately placed my order. With a simple update my X10 was up and running in around 20 minutes. My first 4K show that that evening was the premiere of House of Cards

Pros: 4K videos look absolutely studding. This powerhouse of a 4K player plays at 60fps 4K without skipping a beat. While watching the season premiere of House of Cards in Cards in 4K I had the display set on. I was initially watching in 4K then as Internet traffic increased in real time I watched it drop to 1080p then to 720p. This just confirmed to me just how great the upscaling engine is on this Sony player. At 4K it looked absolutely wonderful and even at 720p I was hard pressed to see any diff

Cons: Cost and the cost of buying 4K videos but you get what you pay for.

Only about 40 movies are available for down load as of 2/6/15. Movies cost 29.99. I was very excited for 4k movies but did not notice a difference from blu-ray to the 4k movies unless i was only 5 feet or closer to my Sony XBR-65X850B, If you are the one that is going to move your chairs that close then 4k rocks. I am about 14 feet away and do not notice a difference. The player is overpriced since you have to pay for each main stream movie. Movie downloads at 6mg att connection take about 14 hours to download.

Pros: Does what it claims. 4k is nice if you are 5feet or closer to 65" tv.

Cons: Expensive. Not enough movies. expensive movies. no 7.1 surround with 4k movies. If you rent movies instead of buy make sure you have a very fast internet connection since the rental agreement starts when you buy and not when the movie finishes downloading. If you have a slow connection like me (6mb) it takes about 14 hours to download so you would only have 10 hours to view the rented movie.

Unhappy with item will not be able to use. You pay for a 4k player and have to pay around per each movie. It takes many many hours to download a movie. The only free videos you get are boring 5 min samples. I don't know how Sony got away selling this product. It's better to get a subscription to Netflix of amazon for movies.

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: No movies in box. Takes forever to download content. Have to pay between $25 - $40 to download a movie after already spending more money to purchase the player.

Excellent , high quality media player. The 4K material is beautiful on my new Sony 4K TV. Very easy to set up to my TV and sound system.

Pros: Big increase in quality from 1080P HD to 4K.

Cons: Needs to have more access to other 4K streaming sites.

Works great

This device does evetything it is supposed to...provided you follow the intall and set up instructions carefully. Total install time, after connection and power up, was just about 35 minutes. There are a few steps to follow, as far as setting up an account on The Sony Entertainment Network is concerned. Make certaim that you have a new and updated wireless router too. The 4K experience with this device is incredible. I have it connected to a 65 inch Sony 4K, "850" series XBR. Breathtaking image and sound. High speed 4K capable HDMI cables are a must too. Again, be patient, follow the instructions, etc and in less than an hour you will have a 4K "wonderland" at your fingertips. I can't wait to see [no pun intended] where this device will take us as 4K continues grow.

Pros: Best I have ever seen picture and sound, 4K beats every other format, resolution, etc, hands down.

Cons: None really - simply follow along and take your time to install and set up. You will not be disappointed.

Sony FMP-X10

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There are no pre loaded titles as indicated!, they must be downloaded. This Sony FMP-X10 is worthless without a VERY fast internet connection. My first download The Amazing Spider-Man 2, took three days to complete.

Pros: Many

Cons: Many, including the need for a VERY FAST internet connection, and this misleading statement "built-in 1-terabyte hard drive comes pre-loaded with 50 free titles including short films, documentaries, music videos and sports videos". There was not one title to view without downloading it. Also, free content CANNOT be downloaded without setting up a credit card payment info first.

Crutchfield response on September 9, 2014 Thanks for your review. The free titles are pre-loaded, but you have to create an account at Sony's online video store in order to unlock them.

Very nice product. Very easy to install. The quality of the movies, documentaries, are simply breathtaking! The downloads are a bit lengthy, going to upgrade the speed of computer, & i believe this will cut down on the download time.

Pros: Easy to install. Great looking movies!

Cons: High priced.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The product is good as expected. Easy installation and set up. I was able to stream netflix in under 1 hour on my wifi

Pros: The Sony contents are expensive

Cons: UPS was the only down side, they left my shipment on the front gate of our property. The gate was opened and they should come in the knock on our door.
