About the Sony XS-GS1621
Ditch your factory speakers
Ditch your factory speakers
Step up to a new level of sonic performance with Sony's XS-GS1621 6-1/2" speakers. These 2-way speakers feature a rigid, reinforced special Kevlar woofer cone that delivers focused midrange and strong midbass punch, even during high-volume playback. A tough rubber surround supports the cone, so this speaker will stand up to the inevitable abuse that awaits all car speakers. And if you crank old favorites through these speakers, the synthetic fiber dome tweeter will reveal the natural detail that your factory speakers couldn't even hope to reproduce. With that kind of powerful sound in your car, you might find yourself taking the long way home.
They look good too
If you're planning on a custom installation, Sony includes refined, black grilles for seamless integration into most car interiors. Sony has also trimmed down the overall mounting depth to make this speaker a great fit for more vehicles. These speakers are protected by the GS Series 3-year warranty, and they'll handle up to 110 watts RMS — so go ahead and rock out.

Features
Woofer Cones: The XS-GS1621 woofers use an MRC cone (Mica Reinforced Cellular glass fiber composite) with Kevlar to reduce weight and increase rigidity, delivering full bass response.
Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.
Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" soft dome tweeter for outstanding dispersion and clarity.
Bi-amp Inputs: The integrated 2-way crossover has separate inputs for the woofer and tweeter; this lets you drive the speaker system with dedicated power for the separate speaker elements, instead of sharing power. Out of the box there are jumper wires shorting the tweeter and woofer inputs; the jumper wires must be removed to bi-amp the speakers.
Crossover: The crossover point is 5 kHz and the slopes are 12 dB/octave high pass and 6 dB/octave low pass.
Mounting: The speakers can be easily mounted in a variety of 6-3/4" applications. Given the required cutout, they will also fit into the opening for a typical 6-1/2" speaker (approximately 5" diameter) but the screw hole pattern is larger than a standard 6-1/2", so new holes would have to be drilled.
Specification Note: Sony's rated power spec for the XS-GS1621 is 75 watts (derived using IEC 60268-5 standards). In the manual they also list the CEA 2031 compliant RMS power as 110 watts. We've adopted the 110 watt RMS rating because CEA 2031 is the more common rating system.

These speakers are awesome and fit the 2005 Mazda 6s quite well. They were good with the stock system. When I added a aftermarket headunit these speakers came to life. They are balanced and smooth. This was my first time trying Sony speakers. I was not disappointed! Money well spent.
