Vibrant highs from separate 1" aluminum dome tweeters mean you'll hear expressive vocals and cymbal work. External 2-way crossovers keep your highs in flawless balance with your mids and lows, and even let you power the tweeters and woofers separately for enhanced performance and efficiency. Mount these tweeters in a good spot, direct them towards your ears, and you'll catch every satisfying detail.

Product Research

Features

Woofer Cones: The XS-GS1720S woofers use an MRC cone (Mica Reinforced Cellular glass fiber composite) to reduce weight and increase rigidity, delivering full bass response.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Tweeters: The tweeters are 1" aluminum domes offering outstanding dispersion and clarity. They can be flush mounted, surface mounted using the angled brackets, or surface mounted using the flat brackets.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

Frame Width Frame Length Cutout Width Cutout Length Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 2.442" 2.442" 2.027" 2.027" 0.474" 0.919"
Flat Surface Mount 1.848" 1.848" N/A N/A 1.478" Screw Depth
Angled Surface Mount 1.846" 1.992" N/A N/A 1.570" Screw Depth

Note: With any of the mounting brackets the threaded mounting posts can be used to hold the tweeters in place, this adds to the required depth (approximately 1-3/8" for flush mounting, 1-3/8" for flat surface mounting, and 1-1/8" for angled surface mounting).

Crossovers: Each crossover has high-pass and low-pass outputs with a 5 kHz crossover point. The high-pass slope is 12 dB/octave and the low-pass slope is 6 dB/octave. A jumper inside each crossover allows you to set the tweeter output level according to your system requirements and personal preference; choose 0 dB (factory setting) or -3dB. The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide. There are two mounting holes in the base of each crossover.

Bi-amp Inputs: The 2-way crossover has separate inputs for the woofer and tweeter; this lets you drive the system with dedicated power for the separate speaker elements, instead of sharing power. The input jumper wires are factory installed to short the tweeter and woofer inputs; the jumper wires must be removed and separate input wires used to bi-amp the speakers.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 4.650"
  • Width: 3.325"
  • Height: 1.282"

Mounting: The woofers can be mounted in a variety of 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" applications.

Specification Note: Sony's rated power spec for the XS-GS1720S is 75 watts (derived using IEC 60268-5 standards). They also list the CEA 2031 compliant RMS power as 120 watts. We've adopted the 75 watt rating simply because it's the more conservative figure.

Q
Will these speakers sound ok, if I only run the power from the alpine deck? I understand to get the full potential of these is with an amp, but would it sound alright?

Hi Jason C, I does sound pretty good, i have to turn the volume up more than i would like.

I installed them without an amp. I have a cheap Sony 4 channel 52w per channel receiver. I didn't even use the crossover as it would have involved substantial rerouting of the wire harness in the door. They sound fine and the stereo drives them fine. I think I will go back and install the crossovers, though.

I installed with a factory reciever in my avalanche. Sound is great- was told a aftermarket reciever like yr alpine would be twice the amp. Try it and can add amp later if needed. Have full range of bass to treble.

They sound fine without an amp. Obviously you could get more with an amp, but they don't sound bad without.

I did that and sounds great. Upgrading for a amp soon .

Jason, I am running these speakers in the front doors of my Honda Accord using only my Alpine receiver to power them. They sound great with clear highs, solid mids and pretty good bass for their size. They might not sound as good if used further from the listener like on a rear tray mounting location.
