With Sony's MEX-GS610BT CD receiver, you can take advantage of many of your smartphone's capabilities when you're behind the wheel. Sony's App Remote™ feature lets you put select music apps into a single list that you can control with the receiver or your phone — and it's easier to find the music you want with album art and other info appearing on your smartphone's screen.
If you like to keep your hands on the wheel, this Sony's got you covered. With select Android™ devices, you can control sources and respond to texts or emails with voice control. And you can use Siri through the receiver with compatible iPhones®. Just pair your device to the receiver with Bluetooth®, press a button, and ask your question — you'll hear the response over your car's speakers.
You can choose from a variety of colors for this Sony's display and controls.
If you've used Bluetooth in the car, you know how awesome it is. If you haven't, it's time to start enjoying the benefits of hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming from your mobile device. The MEX-GS610BT will connect to two devices at the same time — great if you share the car with your significant other. Pairing is easy with Sony's Simple Secure Pairing system, and even easier if your phone supports Near Field Communications (NFC) technology — just touch your device to the receiver and you're set.
The MEX-GS610BT plays CDs, of course, but it also offers a lot of other capabilities. Dual USB inputs let you connect both an iPod® or iPhone and a thumb drive. Sony's Quick-BrowZer search tool makes finding the right playlist, album, artist, or song an easy task. If you're a fan of streaming music, you'll have total access to your Pandora® account with your iPhone, Android or Blackberry.
And you can reach for the stars by adding a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (not included, requires subscription). Satellite radio offers an unparalleled variety of music, news, sports, and talk, and your favorite channels will stay with you wherever you drive.
Sony's Digital Reality Amp puts out some serious power to your speakers, and you can tweak that output with an impressive array of sound-shaping tools, including a 10-band EQ, time alignment, plus high- and low-pass filters. Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) improves the sound of compressed digital music files. Three sets of 5-volt preamp outputs send a high-powered, low-noise signal to your external amps.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.
I have owned Kenwood & JVC head-units before, and this definitely has the best sound of the 3 brands by far. The phone app equalizer makes it easy to tune. Lots of great features!
Pros: Looks good, amazing sound, phone app, detachable face-plate, bluetooth calls, multiple USB ports...
Cons: When connecting my phone via bluetooth, I have to choose between using my phone for calls or as a music player. If I have my phone connected for calls, I have to disconnect it & re-connect as a music player. Very inconvenient. Also, if I plug in a USB drive with multiple music folders, I have to cycle through each folder one at a time. I wish that I could see all the folders on the phone app & just scroll through them to pick the one I want.
After putting up with the stock (non-Infinity) stereo in my Jeep for almost 7 years, I finally bought an aftermarket unit. The first thing I noticed about the Sony was the build quality. It just feels... solid. Buttons didn't feel like they might break every time you pushed one.
The display is very easy to read. Ability to change from several different colors was pretty cool also. My two biggest gripes about the display are: 1-You can't set it to show the time AND another piece of info, such as track name, artist, station, etc.. You're stuck with one item only. 2-The display wouldn't scroll to show the entire track/artist name.
The user interface is clunky. Yes, you can read the manual and figure things out, but it just isn't intuitive at all.
Sound quality seemed, meh. Nothing spectacular. It seemed to have more power than my stock unit, but sounded somewhat muddled to me.
All things considered, I ended up exchanging it for a different radio. Between the muddled sound, and the lack of information in the display, I just couldn't see myself enjoying it much.
Pros: Vibrant display Easy to pair/use Bluetooth phone Can read incoming texts to you Good build quality
Cons: Lack of information on the display Clunky menu interface
I haven't bought an after market stereo receiver in years, I mean I was still pimping the 10 disc changer joint! Got this new Sony w/ the USB capability and BOOM! got at least 500+ tracks at my finger tips. Bluetooth capability for my iPhone getting calls through my Jeep speakers What! let me find out! Units pushing 55 watts x 4 into my speakers got me sounding Nice nuff said! Will be upgrading my speakers soon to get that full feel of that no doubt. Bought me a 12 in Rockford sub w/ built in amp, going to be setting up install after the holidays to bump that. 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee sounding like All That! Crutchfield is on Point! Don't sleep on this people! The peeps at the Harrisonburg store know their professions and they helped me 110%! Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: Every feature this stereo receiver offers is awesome. Like a home theater system in your car.
Cons: Controls take some getting use to but a minor adjustment compared to all the many features attached to this unit. Awesome!
I have 2 older Sony units in other Toyota's I own that work great. I like the Bluetooth and overall sound from these units and figured I'd stay with Sony for my 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited AWD. It may be that the issues I am having with sound quality would be there with any after-market unit in this vehicle. The factory pre-amp should perhaps be bypassed. When using the Crux (SWRTY-61J) interface, which keeps steering wheel control function - I was getting a weird pulsing and wave to the volume from all sources. After a few calls to tech support they offered me the Scosche SLC4 Line Output Converter to control this. This eliminated the pulse but no matter how I tweak the input/output levels on the converter, it sounds awful. I will continue working with Crutchfield to resolve this. I have heard that bypassing the factory amp is one solution, but then you will need further installs to amp the JBL subwoofer...Ugh! I guess you could leave the factory preamp for the sub and direct wire all the other speakers, what a hassle. May as well replace all the factory speakers as well, if you go that route! More than I bargained for in a vehicle this old. The install kit to convert to single DIN looks great and is easy to work with.
Pros: Sony quality, looks cool, fairly easy to install with Crutchfield parts
Cons: Sound in my vehicle, all the interfaces and extra gadgets needed, Bluetooth won't automatically connect (frustrating) like it did with the older Sony units I have. Factory pre-amp should probably be bypassed.
Wow what a great sounding car stereo. A little difficult to use and the Bluetooth is a bit tricky. Beside that it blows my old JVC with time alignment away.
I have had three Sony MEX stereos. This one has nice feature improvements over the previous comparable models. I like that they all function similarly so I don't have to relearn how to operate. The only drawback I have at this time is the horrendous rattle that the faceplate makes. It rattles all the time. I thought it was the housing so I padded that. But it's not. It's the faceplate. Very disappointing. I had hoped to find a solution here, but now I can only hope to find a solution on the web.
Pros: Easy to use.
Good valued purchase.
The unit was easy to install with the purchased MFG harness. I used wire nuts and matched colors per the directions. 1 hour looking at directions, 15 minutes on wire nuts and 15 minutes installing it at the truck cab. Running the mic and USB wire was easy. The user interface was the hardest part because I did not read the instructions. If you can read, this is easy too. The head unit works great. It was easy to set radio stations (analog and digital). Its easy to switch from 3 fm sets and 2 am sets (in memory). Switching audio sources are easy too. Yes, a learning curve is needed to memorize USB play lists options, and everything else. I like it alot.
I would have given it 5 stars, but the interface is clunky. Its probably as clunky as any other traditional unit. There are many features included that never existed when car radios were originally designed.
There is only one "CUSTOM" equalizer setting. That's all I need. There are the "country, talk,etc/" equalizer settings too.
I am thinking of buying another one for my other work truck.
Pros: Most buttons on the face manage all simple tasks. BT Phone stops tuner and passes the call thru the speakers. The mic works great. Mine is on my visor. In-call sound on both ends of the call is clear as a bell. I needed a blue tooth unit and wanted a USB feature. Crutchfield support answered my questions and their kit made my installation a snap. Its a good head unit.
Cons: Clunky interface. It is not intuitive, but not a reason not to buy it. When using Android BT (ex:Maps, Youtube, other sound/videos ) app on the phone, the receiver needs to be on BT Audio. I did not see if running my music thru the phone and GpS simultaneously would allow the GPS turns (verbal commands) to pass thru while I listen to music. That is what I would consider to be a Android issue, not the receiver. This like most every other unit does not play any lossless codecs.
Was shopping around and I narrowed it between this Sony model and a jvc. The display, button lay out, and 5 volt pre outs pushed me for the Sony. Pretty easy to install. Sounds great. Controls take a bit to figure out, read the manual. But over all I'm happy.
Pros: Doesn't feel cheap Pandora controls Bluetooth Two usb connections Good display in sunlight
Cons: Not very easy to figure out the controls and menus without reading manual.
Bought Sony mex-gs610bt. Customer service guys where great and turned my first time to install a car stereo into a great experience vs. a returned product. In my mid 40s and drive my 01 Accord out of love for the car but was wanting more out of the listening experience so upgraded the factory radio. Sound is the same (read: no worse) but I think it's the 14 yr old speakers. I'll look into an upgrade on those. The stereo head, though, I think is great. A little overboard with the fin button stuff and beeps, but the blue tooth connection with my iPhone 5c is flawless. The sound over the Sony mic is great. I hit a button on the radio and Siri indicates she's listening and I just tell her to call someone on my list and she's off and calling. Tuner is great and the usb jack in the back is a great benefit. I have it outlet ting under my steering panel just above the pedals and have a 64Gb compact memory stick with a ton of music just waiting to be summoned. Still exploring and no regrets. Look forward to a speaker upgrade to see what it can do. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but it's a great toy on my commute.
Pros: Tuner is great. 3 yr warranty vs the 1 yr on several other stereos including the HD tuner version of this same product. Usb in front and back. Ease and clarity of the blue tooth hands-free phone calling through the stereo; much better than my 2015 accord factory hands free system.
Cons: More elegant style would be great; not as racy, but that's just me. Not a big deal. Software app does suck, though. Really.
I bought this head unit with the idea of making it the "brains" of my sound system. It advertised to have all of the features I wanted, and at a reasonable price. I had been a Sony product fan for over two decades, so I bought this unit with confidence that it would serve my needs. Much to my dismay, I never could get it to sound right after installation. I have after-market amplifiers, one 4-channel for my front four speakers, and a separate amp for my subwoofers. I never could get enough mmmph on the bass, nor could I get good clean volume on the stereo portion of the sound stage. I changed the RCAs, wires, checked the amps, etc., and couldn't figure out why I was getting so little out of a system I worked on, and thought out so well. I finally decided to take it to an installer friend to try and figure out if I was overlooking something. He checked everything I had, and it came down to the head unit itself. He tested the pre-outs on the unit, and I was disappointed that the outputs were only putting out 1.9 volts at full load. The unit advertises that it has 5-VOLT pre-outs! I am sorely disappointed in this product as I was duped, and it was already too late to return the product. I am stuck with a unit that I won't use, and out money I'll never get back. Do ratings even matter anymore? If it is CEA compliant, who checks to make sure they are truthful in advertising their product?
Pros: Lots of great features, looks very cool.
Cons: Does NOT have 5-volt pre-outs as advertised!Crutchfield response on August 10, 2015 Due to the feedback we received on this review, our research crew tested one of these Sony receivers. Using a multi-meter, the voltage on the preamp outputs was similar to what the customer experienced. However, when we used an oscilloscope and test tone discs, the preamp outputs tested at 5-volts with no clipping at the various test tone frequencies.
Getting sound just right takes a little practice. Takes a little time to figure out how to operate everything. But after awhile you get the hang of it. Overall it works great. Sony app. not very good. Better off not using it.
Pros: Alot of adjustment. Sounds great, and looks great.
Cons: A little learning curve, Sony app. not worth using.
I've had the Sony MEX-GS610BT installed for a while now. I chose it to get some new digital media features into my car and because it has a brighter screen than some. It's installed in a convertible. Although the display is bright enough, there is a problem. The transparent plastic bezel over the display is curved. This guarantees that you will always get glare at every sun angle. You cannot read the display on a sunny day in the convertible. A flat bezel would be much, much better. I like the 2 USB ports. The unit is at its best for me playing from the 2nd USB port. I have it connected to a flash drive in the glove box. When I start the car and turn on the unit, it starts playing where it left off -- great. The worst feature is the really crappy Andriod app called "App Remote" that Sony uses for integration with your phone. It crashes a LOT. When you get in the car and want to play, say "Play Music" through Bluetooth, you have to unlock your phone before it will do anything. Then you have to select, either on the phone, or on the head unit, from the complete list of audio sources on your phone. Unlike some other systems, it does NOT just pick up where you left off when you and your phone get back in the car. It takes a great deal of fiddling.
Pros: Sounds great, especially from CD. Two USB ports. You can turn the display off (all dark) when you're not using it.
Cons: Terrible android app software "App Remote". Complex menus -- impossible to navigate without looking. No customization of buttons or menus. Curved bezel reflects sun glare.
I like the radio, I've had one similar to it. But instead of bass, mid, treble, this one has the 10 band EQ, which I'm not fond of. When listening to a flash drive, it can be confusing if you're moving to another song or moving to another folder. It does come with the external mic for Bluetooth your phone for calls and that works pretty well. No complaints from the person on the other end.
Pros: Good value for the money, sounds good, 2 sets of USB plugs, hands free for phone. 3 sets of pre amp outputs
Cons: Some things are confusing to operate until you get used to it.
Easy to use while driving and menu is easy to navigate.
Pros: Lots of color choices for the display.
I have not purchased a head unit in 15 years. I am blown away at the features this thing has for the money I paid. LOVE the 10 band PEQ.
After installing another stereo I exchanged it for the Sony MEX-GS610B. I appreciate the layout, it is easy to navigate, I also like the brighter display, especially during the daytime. It makes it easier to read. This unit has all of the features I was looking for. I like the blue tooth for use with my iPhone. I also like the USB port on the front so I may plug in my iPod to play music. There are other features I need to lean how to use. Overall it is a stylish unit with great sound.
Pros: Noted above. The Crutchfield team has always been very helpful and easy to work with. Great service!!! I have purchased several systems from them and have always been very satisfied. I recommend them to my friends and family.
Cons: I wish the installation kit could have been nicer looking for my install in my Lincoln Town Car. Once I installed the stereo with the kit I found the kit did not securely hold my stereo in place in the opening. I tried making adjustments but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Great sound love Bluetooth any color face
Pros: great sound
So far I like it. Easy to use and sounds good.
I bought this radio because it was suggested to me by the Crutchfield advisors. They got everything exactly right for what I was looking for in a radio. I have a 2010 Ford F150 XL. I took the stock radio out of my dash and I installed an Ipad mini where the radio goes. I was looking for a radio that I could control easily that was compatible with the Ipad and that I could retain control of the Ipad or use the radio. The remoteapp that you can get for this radio is exactly what I was looking for. IT is easy to use and all the ways you can adjust it are amazing. Each options (I.E. tuner, cd Aux etc..) has an equalizer option that you can adjust for that specific option. you want your FM stations to have more treble and less bass, you can do that. You want your cds to have more bass, you can do that to without interfering with you FM EQ preset. I was also looking that would not break the bank and this radio fit into that as well. The only negative with this is in the app not the radio. you cannot control the Ipad/Ipod music hardly at all. It only give you a shuffle option which you can just swipe right or left for the next song. or up and down for playlists. I ended up installing this in a no factory location at the bottom of my dash. it all works and fits perfectly. If you want a radio that you can use with your ipad/ipods this is the radio for you. it gives you the option to control everything from the ipad/ipod or the radio itself.
Pros: Awesome integration of Ipad/Ipod products. the remote app is superb. Does not break the bank. easy customization. Can use all features of ipad/ipod without the app.
Cons: The remorteapp leaves a lot to be wanted in the way to play music from your ipad/ipod making the only way to play your music and not go insane is to open up your music directly from itunes.
Never liked the old Sony xplod head units. This one however is pretty nice. Has Bluetooth, comes with a mic that is easy to mount and a second usb that has enough cable to route to an arm rest or wherever you need. Call quality over Bluetooth is pretty good, not great. Overall very happy with head unit.
Pros: Two usb connections, comes with mic and a lot of cord to mount it almost anywhere, Bluetooth.
Cons: Bluetooth call quality not the greatest.
Installed in 30 min. Sounds superior to previous aftermarket cd deck by far. Great 12 ban eq adjusts everything you would want. Many different ways to connect your smart phone or MP3 device. Bluetooth works great with my iPhone 6+. Calls are clear and mic works great. Callers can hear my voice as if I was using my phone. Very nice upgrade. I've had most major brands of cd decks and I keep returning to Sony and am never disappointed.
Pros: Great connectivity, eq, boost power. Bluetooth connects when I get in automatically.
Cons: Not as iphone friendly (app) as it could be. Only can control most app settings when connected with usb cord and not when connected with bluetooth. But once eq is set, it remembers it. Can only hope for better app options for iPhones. When choosing which input to use, there are a lot of choices and you have to scroll through them instead of just pressing one button. ie: aux, bluetooth audio, usb 1, usb 2, cd, tuner, bluetooth phone, bluetooth pandora.
Let me start by saying that I am in my mid forties and it has been at least two decades since I had any experience with aftermarket stereos. The head unit was easy to install with the supplied adapter and wiring harness. This unit is a vast improvement over the factory head unit and sounds great. There is a bit of a learning curve (see my opening sentence) for the menu and the initial setup, but I found that I could follow along with the manual and get it done. I was initially diasappointed with the bluetooth setup since I have an Iphone. According to the manual you have to plug the Iphone in via usb to auto connect bluetooth, but I have found that once connected the phone will automatically reconnect as long as the phone bluetooth is on when I start the Jeep. The variable colors are a cool feature. I was able to match the display color to the factory gauges and displays.
Pros: Great sound. Variable display color.
Cons: Menu system.
Good solid knobs, very customizable color and display. Greatd sound. Works o.k. with iPhone 6. Pressing the volume knob activates Siri sometimes but not consistantly. However, if you press the home button on the phone Siri always works through the receiver. BT audio is great. Navigating the USB music folders can be a bit tedious.
Pros: Great sound, solid feel, cusomizable display
Cons: Navigation of music folders is a little confusing or tedious. Also, the phone button answers an in-coming call and hangs up a call on connection with an iPhone 6, but pressing it does not activate Siri or any dialing functions to make a call. The instruction shows a method to dial calls or numbers using the receiver but that does not seem to work with iPhone 6. You have to dial via your phone or use Siri on your phone.
Great receiver, lots of options to tune the sound and display the way you want it. 2 usb ports allows you to charge and connect multiple devices at once, and bluetooth allows wireless calling and controlling your reciever through your smart phone. works great, lots of functions, and received everything needed to install it for free, but to include the steering wheel adapter was $40 which is half priced. easy installation and sounds great. And great customer service at crutchfield
Pros: Functional, sounds great, free installation gear
Made my stock speakers sound like a custom sound system! I was shocked how well everything sounds now.
Pros: Well built, lots of function, front USB is great also and you have a back USB with a long cable to run any where you need. Also a mic for phone.
Cons: Small buttons/slightly difficult to see but no problem once you learn where everything is.
Overall, I was very satisfied with this product
Pros: All componats WORKED!!!!! as advertised
Cons: Needs full time clock display on every selection . Although This is not a crutchfield problem changing my xm account (with xm/Sirius) was not as smooth as it should have been.
good price fast delivery good quality
Pros: Easy install cool graphics
I have had other brands but Sony stands out. I have been with sony for about eight years. This is only my third deck, they last. This deck sounds great but my phone will not stay connected on blue tooth. The scan controls are close together which makes it hard to change while driving. This is a real good deck with alot of features. I hope the problem with th blue tooth is my phone.
Pros: Good sound, great color options. Real good sound shaping.
Cons: Controls close together.
Easy installation. BT works great with IPHONE 6 Plus. Great upgrade from OEM radio.
This is an excellent unit. Bluetooth connects quickly every time, day/night display choices are excellent, excellent sound, just an overall great unit.
Pros: Bluetooth, built in pandora function, rear and front usb ports, able to have different display color for daytime and nighttime is excellent, very easy on the eyes.
Cons: Convex display makes it difficult to read in bright sunlight. Not really a fault with the device, but the app remote is not very intuitive.
Great replacement for the stock unit in my 2007 Yaris.
Pros: Great sound, Bluetooth and NFC for Android is great.
Cons: Messages option is a little confusing even with download of Sony App remote.
This otherwise pretty good receiver has ridiculous controls, with the usual tiny and cheap buttons. Just trying to select the button to skip to the next song, often results in nothing happening, or it may go to the next song, or it may select some other function that I don't even know what the cryptic message is saying. I can tell you that once there, the only way to get out, is to power off and back on. I could be pressing the wrong button, who knows. They are so small and stacked on top of each other. For Pete's sake, this is a car receiver and people are normally driving when using it. I guess I'm supposed to bring along a passenger so they can read the manual and operate it. I say read the manual, because it is NOT intuitive. Everything about controlling the thing is hit or miss. Sometimes when I have my iPhone connected to the USB 2 port it will work as expected, and other times it won't. Sometimes it will connect via Bluetooth and you can use the phone, and other times you have to go into the phones to tell it to connect. I don't know why it can not do the phone functions (placing and receiving calls) through the USB port, but it does not seem to. You can change the display to a billion different colors and there are menus to do all sort of things. Who needs all this crap, I'm driving for God's sake.
Pros: Yes it sounds good, as long as you don't mind the ridiculous interface, it's great. This seems to be the case with most of these aftermarket radios for cars. Some marine equipment is much better, like Fusion.
Cons: The user interface is horrible, the worst I've ever used. The app had wonderful potential, but failed in most every respect. Is this the best Sony could do. They need to take the engineers and stick them in a car and have them operate the receiver and try the app. It seems obvious they have never done that. FM reception poor, as are almost all aftermarket radios. This one is not the worst but still can't pull stations that the cheap factory radio could.
I highly recommend this unit if you don't use FM radio reception. Bluetooth, Pandora and the the Sony app are all A++. FM radio scores a 4 or 5. Extremely poor reception. Stock radio will pull stations better than this one. I don't the radio anymore so it is not a factor for me.
Pros: If you play off of Pandora or BT audio off your cell device the sound is great.
Cons: Very poor radio reception. Do not buy this if you live off FM radio.
Excellent stereo. Replaced a Bose system that was the original stereo in my 1999 Mazda Miata. I left the stock Bose speakers and was amazed at how much better the speakers sounded with the new Sony. It's much louder and clearer. Easy to install and easy to use. Very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Excellent sound, easy installation and easy to use.
Cons: No case included with the detachable face.
Installation was super easy. All the adapters needed fit perfectly. Had to make one support phone call which took all of 60 seconds. I am super happy with the radio. Love the Bluetooth access to music and phone. Sound quality is way better. Crutchfield told me what I needed and it worked great.
Pros: great equalizer presets. Bluetooth. excellent display. remote control. detachable faceplate. 2 usb ports. works with onstar.
Really good sound. Easy to install with Crutchfield's instructions and adapters.
installed in a commercial vehicle
The stereo was easy to install with little or no problems
Works great the 5v out was really nice for my Bose amp.
Pros: 5v out app radio
Cons: No typing on the keyboard when connected, no maps, texts, etc. A problem if someone else is navigating using your phone.
Over all very easy to use and easily to match the color to your interior lights. I like the connection possibilities and they work great. Only down fall is the EQ setting that is tough to set up to a custom setting other than their preloaded "rock, hip hop, country, etc.." but over all very good product. This is my second Sony head unit over the years with different vehicles.
Pros: Connects easily to devices Color is easily adjusted to match the vehicles interior lights Looks great Blue tooth works flawlessly Mainly pros
Cons: Only con I have is the toughness to set up a true custom EQ setting
Bought this to replace an older 'super tuner' just to make sure I still could use my XM radio [lifetime subscription], but the rear connection has changed. The old radio has been re-installed. This will go in my wife's Mustang
Very Easy Installation, I was done in less than one hour, thanks to the install kit included from Crutchfield. Paired my Iphone instantly. Bluetooth works great for both outgoing and incoming calls.Great making calls with the voice recognition feature.Very Good sounding unit for the price.
Pros: The bluetooth features work great for hands free talking. Having a radio with R.D.S. feature is nice to see the song and artist shown on the screen.I can change to a different color of lighting on the screen whenever i want .I can easily change the sound adjustments to my liking. Great overall unit. Good job Sony
Cons: None at all.
After much research and comparison I found this unit to be the "cream of the crop" within this price range. I installed this in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler with the OEM upgraded sound system and the difference in the output is overwhelming. I had already replaced/upgraded all the speakers and was still not satisfied. In hindsight, replacing the head unit with this Sony may have been all that was required. Installation was easy enough with one minor exception. With the steering wheel adapter control harness there is one step that I miss-wired that prevented me from hearing in coming calls. In the wiring instructions it tells you to match the colors of the wiring harness to the wires from the head unit which I did, the first time. HOWEVER, it also tells you (which should have been in bold print or underlined in my opinion) that if you are using an OEM amp, you are to attached the front speaker wires to the rear speaker wires of the Sony. This is something I figured out after talking to two Crutchfield reps and them sending me a replacement unit. Could have saved both of us some time and energy if this issue was identified in their technical notes. Kudo's to them for customer service in any event.
Pros: I believe my review says it all. This is SO MUCH BETTER than my stock Jeep unit,.
Cons: Not really a con but programming takes a bit to get used to but works with ease after a bit of trial and error.
If you read the manual and set it up correct its a very nice deck for the money
Sorry, don't know much about "coolness factor". To me, it's an appliance. Having said that, the sound quality and performance through the Kicker speakers purchased with it, is nothing short of outstanding. I like my tunes at a fairly high volume level, and this unit did not disappoint. The upgrade over stock in my 1999 Silverado was incredible. Using primarily a flash drive as the music source, there truly were things heard in songs I've not heard before, and most of my library is 60's through 80's era rock, blues and country. I honestly don't know what use the included remote is, but people must want them for something. Mine's still in the plastic bag it came in, and will probably remain there forever. The color adjust was nice to match the other lighted controls and gauges in the dashboard so it didn't stick out. If, however, you want it to do that, there's quite a selection. Can't vouch for the radio performance as I never listen to it. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.
Pros: Sound quality, easy menu for a non-tech guy like myself and dash fit does not look cheap.
Cons: A small one, but in order to hook up microphone for blue tooth cell, had to remove instrument cluster to run cord behind dash and up left window pillar to attach to left visor. I don't like exposed wiring of any kind, so that's how I resolved it. Only took twenty minutes, but it would have been nice to possibly have a flush mounting surface right in the adapting bezel for the unit. Was going to drill my own, but didn't want to compromise any rigidity.
I recently purchased the Sony MEX-GS610BT to replace my now dead stock 2004 E-250 Ford CD/Radio unit.
I love the cool features but they're goon take time to get used to,... navigating isn't that easy for me,... had to refer back to the manual a couple of times...LOL!
I love it though,..the colors and the SOUND is amazing, as well as all the customization that you can do to make it sound even better...
Installation was a snap,... thanx to Crutchfield for including not only the dash kit, but the specific wiring harness for my vehicle...all free of charge.
Pros: Can't say enough good things about this unit!
Cons: I only wish that the manual was a little more "dumbed down" so that I could comprehend it easier... and experience the features quicker.
I was looking for a good unit capable to run my 5ch amp, without spending too much. After so many researches and reviews I decided to buy this model because it has everything I was looking for..
Pros: Excellent sound, very easy to use, awesome for the price!!!
Cons: I haven't found anything that I don't like about it...
I was disappointed with the Sony MEX-GS610BT. Great sound but the display and menus are just plain crude. I really wasn't looking for anything exotic, just reliable and efficient. This unit delivers on reliability but is certainly a let down in operation.
Pros: Nice sound. Easy installation.
Cons: Crude menus. Primitive display. Unreliable bluetooth pairing.
I used to do Car Audio Competitions and never really liked Sony at all. However, with all the changes in the car audio industry only a few players left. I decided to give Sony a try since almost everything is made in China and being Sony thought it may be built elsewhere and it was Thailand. This HU is great has all the features you would need if you are a tuner but has the latest Technology regarding Bluetooth and NFC. The 5v Pre-outs where a requirement for me since I run amplifiers and this HU drives the Amplifiers great with super clean sound. You can control everything with the Sony App from Google Play. This make tuning really easy. If you listen to the Radio this unit has RDS and the radio is clean and loud.
Pros: 5V preouts NFC & Latest Bluetooth Mutlicolor display - Match your interior lighting Build Quaility Radio reception and Sound. 3 year Warranty Sony Application to control everything on Headunit. Microphone with Noise Canceling Technology 2 settings.
Cons: None So far
The website was easy to navigate and suggested every thing needed to install the unit in my car. Fast shipping, easy to read directions, great product. I called tech support to get an answer about the steering wheel control device I purchased also and they were very fast to answer and diagnosed the solution very quickly.
Pros: Easy install. Fast shipping. Tech support.
For the price & 2 hours of my time I converted a tired old stock radio into a modern full featured "system" with blue tooth. As a bonus it blows away the sound from the factory. An absolute no brainer. Not to mention how great Crutchfield's tech service was on the phone. Anyone with an old Porsche factory radio should just make the call and update the POS that came with the care
Pros: Easy cheap & descent
Cons: I'm to old to learn all the functions
* Crutchfield has warranty as 1 year but this is Sony's premium GS series that comes with a 3 year parts/labor warranty. * Had this for bout 2 weeks now and enjoying every bit of it. All of the up to date features and fine audio tuning options are easy to navigate. I still have factory speakers (not paper cones) and they sound so much better now. I also have a 10' sub with monoblock amp so the 5V rca really provides a clean and powerful signal. The top of the line single din units from Pioneer and Kenwood might sound a little better but for all the features I get with this one, 3 year warranty, and the price it's hard to pass up. Also discovered that the AppRemote lets you fine tune the time alignment even more. My wife liked mine so much that I just installed the Sony MEX-N5000BT in her car this week (basically the same unit with a few features missing).
Pros: Sound quality, AppRemote is very usefull, second usb port is 2 amps to charge and use my iPad at the same time.
Cons: None at all
ever thing works out great all the instructions Made it a good experience
awesome head unit for the money . i love the friendly user app remote especially the eq settings on the fly
Pros: excellent unit for the money.plenty of extra features to make any tech or gear head happy for days best part the wife loves it more than i do
Cons: still getting use to some of the cool features

Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the MEX-GS610BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the MEX-GS610BT ; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).
Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.
Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The unit supports the playback of MP3/WMA music files on a CD-R or CD-RW disc.

You can operate basic functionality of compatible audio apps directly from the receiver (operation differs depending on the app). Movie and navigation apps will continue to be controlled from your smartphone. In addition, you can control the receiver's sources directly from the application on your smartphone using simple finger gestures and see detailed source information on the phone's touchscreen.
Note: Access to the music, movie, and navigation apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Trust Sony brand and it has the options I want. [ Robert Jan 27, 2016 ]
It has a lot of features and a good price! [ TOMY Jan 07, 2016 ]
I'd bought a similar Sony head unit for another vehicle and loved it but this one seems to have a slower processor that makes changing songs torture when listening to usb. I'd switch it out for the older model any day. [ Paul Jan 02, 2016 ]
Installed in my 1994 Ford Ranger, love it. This Sony face plate has equipped my truck with updated technologies in media trends, we are now hands free, Bluetooth, and voice activated. Haven't replaced a car stereo since cassettes came out, this was an easy task with the installation package from the Crutchfield team. Five stars for the stereo and Crutchfield. [ Gary Dec 21, 2015 ]
It sort of works, but it is a little too low powered to fully charge some phones. I find that a Y cable using both the front and rear ports works very well though [ ZACHARY Jan 04, 2016 ]

Not through USB but you would be able to use the bluetooth and you could most definitely use the headphone jack on your phone to the audio port on the front. The advertising for Sirius radio on this stereo is for the Sirius/XM turner that is separate from your phone. But you can always send audio signal from any app on you phone. I use other audio apps like Spotify and Digital FM and they both play perfectly through my bluetooth to the stereo. You will need to install the Sony apps on your android device to communicate properly to the stereo. Once you have all of that setup you can play anything from you phone to the stereo via bluetooth. USB can only be used as a USB storage device. If you have have music on your phone it will see the audio tracks stored there and play them, but you would not use the USB to play from apps on your phone. You could even put mp3s on a USB flash drive and hook that up to the USB port if you wanted to. [ Recreation Nov 03, 2014 ]
Thanks for all of the replies [ Kieran Lavin Nov 03, 2014 ]
I haven't used the sub port much. I have an android phone and it has been my experience that any audio you have coming through the phone will broadcast to the unit through the Bluetooth audio setting. I watch espn on mineand I get the audio through my head unit. I would assume the usb would be just as cconvenient. I have enjoyed this radio since I installed it. [ william Nov 03, 2014 ]
I would think so, but I'm not positive as I only have a iphone [ kevin Nov 03, 2014 ]
Yes it will. [ scott Nov 03, 2014 ]
I'm not sure about USB but you should be able to to use it via the Bluetooth audio source on the radio. I know audio from YouTube will play via Bluetooth so I'm guessing any audio output from your phone will work through it. Hope this helps. sincerely, Tyler [ Tyler Nov 03, 2014 ]
I have never tried this. I do play Slacker and other music services via USB. Plus, you can always stream via Bluetooth, right? [ Adam Nov 02, 2014 ]
Well first I really like my stereo, I operate a iPhone with or without cord from stereo. But all items from the download to the phone work. It take a little playing around but I think you really will enjoy it. I hope this helps. [ KEITH Nov 02, 2014 ]

The 5000bt only has a front USB Port (it only supplies a 2V connection) and according to the Sony website it does not list the iPhone 5 (it might still work but without testing it yourself there really is no way of knowing unless someone else has one) The gs610bt has front and rear USB ports. Also this model gives you 5V through the USB ports. Which is possibly why the iPhone 5 is listed as being compatible. The reason for the increase in voltage through the USB ports is that you will be able to charge your phone through this USB port at a much faster rate. Some phones (like the iPhone 5) will not even charge properly or at all. A lot of the newer Android phones also have this issue if you do not use an adequate amount of voltage the phone will say it is charging but it will not really charge very fast it would take a whole day to charge. I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: It doesn't come with any type of cover, but we do offer a universal marine cover that would fit over it. You can find that here: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/Prodview.asp?i=120999005B If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
